We went to this restaurant on a work trip. So glad to have stopped here for dinner. It was a group of 6 and we were attended to very nicely. Service was great. We all got salads, each different but the farm salad was soooo delicious, I got it with their citrus vinaigrette. Pizza crust was a little cardboardy. But the mushroom pasta was delicious!!! In general our lunch was good. We all ordered different meals: I had pick 2 with 1/2 Harvest Sandwich and cup of French Onion Soup. The sandwich was crunchy as I like with fresh pita bread. My soup was very heavy on onions and extremely light on broth. Our server had a difficult time entering a few changes on the order which made it a slow process. When I added a side order of fries was difficult for him to realize I wanted 3 things. Finally he said it would be an extra charge which was fine with me. Cute place, but service was kinda slow and waited a bit to be acknowledged and seated. Then after paying, it took a while for the waitress to return with our credit card. I ordered the turkey pita with fries, which was pretty dang tasty! It was a pretty large serving so I was able to take the other portion to-go and snack on later that evening. My husband got the green chili stew. That was disappointing. No flavor whatsoever. It tasted as if it were watered down, with no green chili flavor and no salt. The desserts were delicious, and the rest of the meal was "good". But there was a weird moment with the owner of the business yelling across the restaurant at one of the staff members loudly about a seating issue. It was strange and made us all a bit uncomfortable. I have a very mixed feelings about this restaurant. When my daughter and I went there was just one main server, and a bartender manning the bar, but also manning some tables in the back. We were seated at the very front seats next to the window, which was fine. It took a while for the server (older woman) to come get our orders. If it wasn't for the complimentary focaccia bun I would have being very "hangry". I was interested in their burgers, but it came in pretzel buns. I asked if I can substitute with other types of bread. She proceeded to kind of twist her face as if I was asking something ridiculous. She said pretzel buns are the only bread. So I ordered the lamb meatballs instead. My daughter ordered chicken sandwich in pretzel buns with roasted peppers. The food took close to 40 min to come out... once it came out I cut the meatballs to eat, and realized the centers were still raw. I had to call the server and ask for the kitchen to really cook the meatballs through. She once again twisted her face and said these are the way they serve their lamb meatballs (slightly raw in the middle). I insisted nicely that I preferred well done. She did take the meatballs back to the kitchen. Once the meatballs came back out they were fine. The flavours were good, but kales a bit too salty. I understood she was the only one serving the front part of the restaurant. I did thank her for making sure my meat was cooked through. She was not a rude or mean person, but the long wait for the food took come out, her twisting her face when I asked her something fairly standard, and raw meat in the center was not what I had planned after a long day... I would give a 2 star, but I really think I went their when they did not have enough servers (and the place was busy). read more

What a cute place to stop in while on my road trip! The service was great and the atmosphere was adorable! Very rustic farmhouse and perfectly quaint. I love the emphasis that they placed on sourcing their local organic farmers! That is a great way to support your local economy! The yak burger was fantastic! The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked! This a a small downtown restaurant. Walked in and was seated in the front window . Ordered one of the special margaritas, pineapple jalapeño with salt. It was good but not spicy. For dinner I had the chicken fingers with a dinner salad. The blue cheese dressing had chunks of cheese and the salad had the sweetest tomatoes. Very good. The best part was the fingers. They were cooked to perfection. There were 4 large ones and were made fresh. The batter was crisp and the perfect amount. The cut so easily with a fork and was juicy and tender. Passing through on our way to CA we stopped in Cortez for the night. Got an early reservation here based on reviews and we were not disappointed! You feel like you're entering someone's cozy home bar. Pat was our server and he was super knowledgeable and fun to talk with. Service was excellent as was the food. We wanted to try a few things so we started with the Greek Salad...excellent...and the Carrot Coconut soup...also excellent! My husband had the Yak burger med rare, and I had the Spicy Sausage pasta. The ambiance is wonderful and everything in the restaurant is unique and thrifted. From the different tables and chairs to the glasses and silverware. Our server told us about the special of the day and started us off with some bread and butter. You can tell the bread is homemade in house. The butter was a little salty. My mom got the potato skins but the chef messed up and we got a different appetizer that wasn't good. We eventually got the potato skins. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and it was really good. I could tell the fries were homemade too as they were all different sizes. Service is great! read more

Clean casual atmosphere, right on the main drag. Locally grown and raised products in a unique menu. (Lamb was the special, you could also get Yak, that kind of unique). If you're an adventurous diner you'll love it; traditionalist you may not. Food was good. My companions said the fries are great! I had the chicken fried steak which was very good. Chicken tenders with fries seem to be a unanimous choice as to what you should order. Service was mediocre. We were early for dinner and one of only two tables but had to ask for drink refills. When asked for iced tea refills the waitress brought tea - no ice. Iced tea - it's 102 degrees and ice is literally in the name, but she brought no ice. I am giving four stars because the food was good. If rating solely on service I wouldn't have been so generous. I'd have leaned closer to 2 stars. I give the atmosphere, restaurant decor, cleanliness and food a five. I give the service a 2. So 5 + 2 = 7 / 2 = 3.5. I rounded up. Mediocre service is understandable when it's swamped, not appropriate when wait staff are just hanging out chatting. If you're adventurous and not in a hurry I recommend it. We had dinner and sat up at the bar. Had the green chili pork soup. I thought this lacked flavor so was a little disappointed. They served bread and butter and the bread tasted like pizza dough and it was yummy. Got the pork special with an apricot sauce and it was really good. My only nitpick is that the sauce wasn't hot and therefore the pork wasn't hot. It was cooked perfectly though. We also got the lamb meatballs. I Ioved the curry sauce and the crunch crisped kale. Admittedly, some of the contributing factors might be due to the fact that the place could use a bit more staff which further reflected in the wait time for the food - though, the overall service experience was still quite good. Taste: 3/5 Service : 4/5 Ambience: 4/5 My friend ordered the Farm salad whereas I ordered the Mesa Chicken. The Farm salad was as expected: fresh and exactly what she was looking for. The Mesa Chicken was interesting -- individually, the ingredients and the components of the dish were great. However, the meal didn't quite come together. I'm not sure the vegetables were a nice complement to the rice or the cheese was even meant to be on top of the chicken. I excitedly entered the Farm Bistro after a day of travel and hoped for a healthy meal after many days of not so healthy eating while traveling through some northern parks. Mixed results. I enjoyed my meal, my husband did not. I had the baseball sirloin, it was tasty but a bit overdone. The mashed potatoes and fresh grilled veggies even better. This one met that criteria but timid in seasoning, which is why I was glad for the garlic dipping sauce. Served on a pretzel roll with pepper and onions with a side of fries. what to do when driving across america, but stop in tiny cortez co and eat at the best restaraunt in town. unfortunately for us, the lounge lizard next door was closed, so we settled on the farm bistro instead. it was pretty good however, maybe even better than the lounge lizard, but as we'll never come back, who's to say. the menu was pretty well laid out, the cocktails were splashing and the very young servers all seemed too young to be making us cocktails, but we are not to judge, we are only to be served and enjoy. there were many meditereanian options on the menu, which of course, we were overjoyed to try, zuccinni balls and goat balls, hell yes Cortez! i believe we had some green chili chicken as well, and when we were done, we were overjoyed at our luck that not every cool place in Cortez was closed on Sunday. read more

Chimichurri wasn't very good, nor did it add anything to the steak, which would have been OK for $25, but you're asking $35... Maybe mountain pricing I suppose? Stopped by here on my work trip to Cortez. Got there around 7:10 pm after work was done got the day. So maybe I caught them on a bad night ('cause the previous reviews were good). It didn't look busy, but I waited 8 minutes before my server came to my table after I was seated. I wanted the chkn pot pie, but they were sold out, so I ordered a cheeseburger and salad. I then waited 50 minutes for my order to arrive, (a similar occurrence with the other tables). They did give me a complimentary dinner roll after 30 minutes of waiting. The roll was good. My burger was cooked to order and tasted fine, but topped with maybe only one teaspoon of shredded Swiss cheese, melted on the patty, which cost an extra dollar. The salad was fine, as well, although the ranch dressing wasn't thick, it was pretty runny and lacked any real flavor. My server was ok, not friendly, but not dismissive either, very transactional. I had great hopes for this dinner and left frustrated and disappointed. Like I said, maybe it was just a bad day, like a chef called out or something. In the future, it would have been nice if my server could have told me it was going to be slow and shown a little more engagement. She only stopped by my table once (to bring the roll) during my long wait. read more

It is never busy between 2 and 4 at this Bistro. I walked down the aisle and a server named Britany slammed a menu on a table for 4 in the middle of the floor. Since I was already told I could sit anywhere I moved the menu to a side table for 4 so I could answer a few emails while I had lunch. Britany came over grabbed the menu and said, "You will sit over here!" I got up and was walking to the door to leave as she apparently was going to be my server and I didn't need her attitude while I paid for a meal. She said, "We need the big tables for large groups!" I said, "You don't even have customers right and you never do during this time!" It was all about her bossing people around. I'll never eat there again. Poor, poor server. read more
