A modest little take-out cafe tucked in between two popular Indian restaurants, Bentolicious serves Taiwanese comfort food in an comfortable setting. (It's one of the few places you can get cans of Taiwanese apple cider and Taiwanese rootbeer, along with homemade barley milk drinks!) Takeout is popular, but there are a few tables inside and outside for those who have the time to eat there. Staff is friendly and welcoming and helpful. Portion sizes of the proteins (chicken, pork chops, tofu) are generous, but the three sides (egg, kombucha melon, eggplant, etc.) tend to be on the smaller side - in comparison, 99 Ranch's lunch boxes seemed to be deeper and more evenly balanced. All in all, it was a positive experience and I'll go back there again.
We went on a Friday night at 6:15 pm. It is very quick if the dish you order is available. The set up is a lot like Panda Express but I would guess fresher. For the tray you pick a main dish that has rice on the bottom, and 3 sides. It is plenty of food for $15.95. I chose the Basil Chicken. It was not dry and had a good ginger, soy sauce, with a little heat sauce. I would order it again. As one of my sides I picked the deep fried salt and pepper squash. Very salt forward but I loved it. Turn the other cheek if you have high cholesterol. I did have the broccoli stir fry which was crunchy. That subtracts out the fried in the squash right. Whatever I picked for my 3rd side was not memorable. I would go back. I would have given them a 5 star but my seat was sticky and the table not wiped down.
I chose this spot for lunch, I ordered online and it was ready within 10 mins! Lots of parking, it's in a plaza with other food spots but it's definitely a must try! It's my first time coming here and trying their food and it won't be my last. As I was parking, I saw the owner talking with the customers outside as they have tables out. Just seeing that, made me feel good about the spot that I'm trying bc the owner is so friendly so I assume they must care about the food quality and service they put out. I ordered scallion black pepper beef with your choice of 3 sides. Mines were soy sauce stewed egg, salt & pepper pumpkin and mixed veggies. First glance, portions are good and reasonable. Quality looks and smells amazing. The beef was tender and well seasoned, veggies in the stir fry plus the mixed veggie sides were still crunchy and vibrant in color. The egg was marinated for a good amount of time for it to have that color without being overly salty. The pumpkin was my favorite because it's seasoned with salt & pepper and jalapeños for the sweet salty and spicy kick. Plus they use a good chunk with light batter. I'm just mad at myself for not eating here before and I've worked around the area for almost two years now. It's now in my rotation to go again heh. 10/10
This is a great spot for a quick meal or takeout order. Favorite choices are the Chiayi organic chicken and the ichiban fried chicken for entrees. All of the sides I've tried are great too but the pumpkin is the standout. Love getting the HK style lemon iced tea as well. There is some seating inside but a lot of people get to go orders. They usually have a steady flow of customers when I've been there but service is still quick and friendly.
Bentolicious is located around the corner from Ssam Korean BBQ, down in Pleasanton. It's across the street from a popular Indian spot, so if you don't know where Bentolicious is just keep walking towards where there's tons of people just waiting outside of the restaurant, and Bentolicious will be across from them at the other building wedged into the last corner of that shopping strip. Bentolicious offers the Taiwan bento lunch experiences, which, as someone who grew up in Taiwan, I can tell you the menu and feel certainly gives off that feeling. It's also interesting they offer specific types of bentos that will mirror the famous bento train box styles that Taiwan has with their rail system, so that's fun. Since this is mainly a takeout spot, just know that the food is already cooked out, and put into trays so when you order they will just scoop and do the takeout for you. Of course the drawback is it may have been sitting there for awhile, but the upside is it will be relatively fast so that's good. Price wise, it's reasonable, particularly for Pleasanton, so good affordable lunch or dinner takeout spot. The basic menu item seems to be pick your protein, and then it comes with 3 sides. There's a variety of sides available here, which is some of the basic stuff you would usually find with the bento like cabbage and stuff, but there's also some stuff that's not so typical of a Taiwan bento, which is fine too. For the side dishes, they were actually pretty decent. The egg plant was tasty. The cabbage was so-so, it's cabbage. The fried squash was yummers. The tofu was also good and delicious. Egg was fine too. However, the fried chicken was underwhelming to say the least. I feel the ones we had today was completely overdone, and just dry and not good anymore. When we ordered, they did offer to fry it fresh, but I assume that just means they refried it, and refried it too much as a result because it was not even remotely what I had hoped for. The breading too, I got really excited because it looked like Taiwan jipa, but when I ate it, it unfortunately was not that. Final verdict? Bentolicious was okay. While there were certainly a lot of upsides with the sides, as those were actually pretty good, and for the price to include 3 sides, makes it all worthwhile. However, if your main feature (the chicken) was not good, it kind of ruined the experience altogether. While I may go back again in the future for some of those sides, I will have to see what other protein options to try out because that fried chicken was not it. Overall, I would still recommend it to anybody looking for a good takeout spot. Who knows, maybe they just overfried it that day for some reason, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
Since our office moved to Pleasanton, this has been a go to spot for lunch as it provides really tasty and high-quality food, with the ability to customize your Chinese bento each time. The owners and crew are friendly and efficient, and they also do an outstanding job catering at a cost-effective price. One of my favorite dishes is the organic shredded chicken, which is served over white rice and topped with both the soy sauce and oil-based sauce, with a choice of three sides. My favorite sides are the fried pumpkin along with the spicy eggplant and whatever sautéed greens they have that day. They have plenty of other main dish choices (eg, basil chicken, fried chicken, braised chicken leg, pork, etc. ) and various sides to choose from as well The restaurant isn't large but there are a few tables inside and outside to eat at if you like, along with bottled drinks if you want to purchase them. Would definitely give Bentolicious a try!
Small place with only a couple tables. Most people just order to go and eat elsewhere. Taiwan comfort food, bento (lunchbox) styles. Reasonable price. You get to pick one protein and 3 sides. Protein: Fried Chicken- supposedly their known dish. It was alright. Fried Pork Chop - dried and tough. And soaked in some overly salty sauce. Meh Sides: Fried pumpkins - not bad Mapo tofu - not bad Eggplants- not bad Stir fried Bean Sprouts - meh They also have special soup of the for additional cost.
This place has become mine and my wifes favorite place to eat when were in pleasanton. The food here is SO good, the railroad track pork cutlet is a must. They also do the hot sour soup sometimes which my wife loves esp during the cold months. The service is always spot on and its a great little place to grab a bite any day of the week.
Amazing food and service as always! Ingredients are never too heavy/oily. Authentic food with owners who have genuine passion about their mission and serving fresh food made with care! I usually get the railroad pork chop bento or the chiayi organic chicken bento. For my most recent visit, I got the railroad pork chop bento with the following 3 sides: tofu, eggplants, and fried pumpkin. The fried pumpkin is my favorite side. It's fried wonderfully and has a light and crispy batter. Their night market party wings are also one of my favorite items. The batter and seasoning is spectacular. Handful of tables inside. Plenty of parking in the lot. Love their concept and variety!
I actually came here a number of years back (pre-COVID) and glad to see it's still around and doing well. Even on a Monday, people were bustling in to get their bento boxes. The staff speak Cantonese, but they understand Mandarin and English as well. Bentolicious has a selective menu with some seasonal specials. You pick a main entree, three side dishes, and rice. I opted for the basil chicken entree with the stir fried eggplant, steamed veggies, and fried pumpkin (seasonal). Portion sizes are generous. The basil chicken was mildly spicy and the stir fried eggplant and fried pumpkin were cooked to perfection. If you're looking for a place with good Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong style (take your pick) food with quick and friendly service, and generous portion sizes, come check out Bentolicious!
We were in the neighborhood and needed some lunch. We were looking around on Yelp and BentoLicious popped up and we were intrigued. In short, if you're in need to find quick food to-go, then hop on by! L O C A T I O N BentoLicious is located in a shopping complex kind of off on the side. Parking is a bit hard especially when it's a weekend or busy lunch times. We ended up parking near Maverick's and walked over. I N S I D E It's not a huge spot, but they have seating inside as well as outside. You start your order on the left side not at the cash register which is directly in front of the door. M E N U It's fairly straight forward. They have Taiwanese style bentos now....bento is a Japanese word for a preportioned packed meal so it's just used here in a way that it's a packed meal to go. They have a variety of protein to choose from: chicken (variety of styles), pork, beef, and a non protein of veggies which they place on a bed of steamed white rice. Then you get to choose 3 sides which you kind of point at. I wish they had signs of what each was but I hear that if you look at their menu, it's basically a subset of their vegetable entrees from their party tray menu. They had 9 to choose from when we came in. We opted to get the Railroad Pork Chop. It didn't look as crispy as we were hoping for but we still went ahead and ordered it and to get our crispy craving we ordered popcorn chicken which took an additional 10 minutes which we didn't mind waiting. For our sides, we chose the eggplant with tofu, sauteed bok choy and salt & pepper pumpkin. The pork chop was wet which I wasn't expecting though it did look wet when we got it. The flavor was a bit bland. I've never had Railroad Pork Chop, so I didn't know what it was supposed to taste like or how the texture should be, but the overall flavor just fell flat for me. The eggplant and tofu was great and I would easily come back for that pumpkin squash. The bok choy was decent and was really chosen so that we didn't feel too bad about not having veggies in our meal. It did have garlic which of course everything else did have, so I just took a pepcid to combat my ailing old stomach. The popcorn chicken was good, but wish it did have more white pepper to taste. I wish it also was more moist as it felt a bit dry. S E R V I C E We had called in initially to order but since we were only ordering one bento, they told us to come in so that we can choose our sides. We paid at the register easily by credit card. Fast, kind, and easy service! O V E R A L L If you want something quick and filling, definitely give this place a shot. If you're ordering outside of their bentos then perhaps call that order in so that you don't have to wait. Other than that, not too shabby.
This place is a hidden gem! You might pass over it thinking it's just another take out spot in the back corner of a complex, but the food here is seriously good. I ordered the Ichiban Fried Chicken Brest Bento (#1), and opted for the Mapo Tofu, Eggplant, and Bok Choy sides. First of all, the chicken was a huge, juicy piece of meat, on top of a generous portion of rice. Such a good deal! The sides are what rally shined for me. THE EGGPLANT OMG. I might even ask to make all 3 of my sides just the eggplant next time lol. The eggplant was just soooo umami and so flavorful, and although I normally am not a bok choy fan, I did really like it here, and it balanced out the oils from the chicken well. The tofu was pretty standard, nothing special although still good. I appreciated the extra protein from the tofu, but I may try the marinated egg instead next time! They had run out of chicken when I ordered it but they were very clear to me that it would be just 5 more minutes and it's be out, and they filled up my sides and rang me up in the meantime. Overall they were very kind and helpful.

Came on Saturday when they open for dinner to-go and there was already a line, waited around 20 minutes to order. Love all the bentos from here, they have a simple menu but every single item is delicious! Really reminds me of the food in Taiwan. My favorite is their fried chicken - it's not too oily yet it's moist and tender. All the food freshly made. You can order family meal online for pickup or you can order in person for bentos and other items. Although I already tried most items on their menu but I still wanted to come back again and again when I want some Taiwanese comfort food. read more
Covid-19 Take Out Update: ordered a family meal ($35) from their website along with a pound of fried chicken. The family meal came with a two boxes of entrees and a veggie. They didn't pack it until I arrived at the restaurant, so everything was hot and fresh. The stewed chicken with shiitake and button mushrooms was super tasty with a rich sauce. Salty and packed with an umami punch. Mushrooms were thick and "meaty". Really excellent with rice. The flavors were classic oyster sauce and soy. The chicken was super tender and the marinade penetrated to the center of the nuggets. Mmmmmmm! The fried egg and shrimp was amazing! It had nice "wok flavor" and the egg was very silky. Our little one couldn't stop eating it. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Lots of flavor in a simple dish. Yeah! I had a choice of veggie and I picked bok choy. It was also super good. Nicely seasoned with a touch of ginger and a pinch of salt. So good even our veggie hating lil guy ate some. The amount was quite generous. We didn't get any rice because we made it at home, but that's an option. We added on a pound of fried chicken. Now, this is really interesting. It's super good, but not exactly what I imagined in my mind. They use white meat cutlets that are pounded into thin planks. The coating is reminiscent of Chinese salt-pepper mix (like the stuff for salt-pepper fried shrimp or pork chops), but not as intensely salty. I suspect it's because they don't use MSG. Also, it's a gentle breading, kinda like at some Japanese places. It's not intensely crunchy like popcorn chicken. It's also not spicy! It's a good deal at $13/pound. Reheat in a convection toaster oven for best results! The store was not crowded, but there was a steady flow of masked patrons. Employees are friendly and very efficient. They do speak English, so don't be afraid, my non-Asian friends! The food is saltier than I remembered, but still a solid option for fresh Asian food if you don't want to cook at home. read more

the place is not that big but ok. the ambience and staffs are ok. service is quite fast. they have eight kinds of entrees and you pick one and then can pick another three veggies. tried the pork chop and will say it is just ok but will say the eggplants and salted pepper fried pumpkins are great. fried pumpkins is very recommended. the pumpkin itself is sweet and then they mix it with salt, pepper, garlic, jalapeño, and dried chili make it even perfect. price is average... read more

i actually really love this place. it's not just that the food and the sides (you get to pick your 3) that's amazing! but it's that familiarity and friendliness of ALLLL the staff from owners to the cashiers!! it's that taiwanese feel that just got me! my friend and i even got the railroad pork chop to go after we dined in! i definitely will eat here again and get more to go next time im here! read more
Thank you to fellow Yelpers for writing reviews recommending this quick and delicious lunch favorite. This small restaurant is located on the far end of the parking lot where a few large chain restaurants and a chain hotel take up the main view from the road. The employees are welcoming the moment a customer walks in and immediately ask the number of bento boxes to order. The day that I came in, they had Fried Rice : ) on top of which they scooped Mongolian Beef (NOT spicy, the employee warned me : ) For my three sides, I selected Salt and Pepper Tempura Pumpkin, Szechuan Eggplant with Tofu, and Mapo Tofu. A second bento included the Fried Rice and Basil Chicken generously scooped on top with the same three sides as above. ALL of the food was fresh, full of flavor, and an enjoyable lunch on the go. Mongolian Beef was tender, as was the Basil Chicken, which had great basil flavor. Fried Rice tasted so homemade! : ) Salt and Pepper Pumpkin was crispy and had lots of flavor! Szechuan Eggplant was sweet and spicy and Tofu with it was fried perfectly. Mapo Tofu was soft in a tasty sauce! They do NOT use MSG, which was evident, as my GI thanked me for the meal : ) If you like take out and need a safe food choice, I would check out this place! : ) *Note: Drive in straight from the main road to the back to find this eatery. read more

Came here with a coworker for lunch and the place was a lot smaller than we thought. It was also really packed inside, felt like the people on the tables didn't have room since the people waiting in line were in their space. It took us about 10 minutes to get our foods. There wasn't a huge variety of foods you can pick from. I got the black pepper beef as my entree with a veggies, ma po tofu, and this egg. There wasn't labels on the side dishes so I wouldn't be able to tell you what I got. I tried asking the servers what it was and they couldn't understand English. My bentobox was about $12, which I thought was a little expensive but Panda Express is sometimes even more expensive and you get less options. Overall, I don't mind coming back and giving this another try. But I've definitely experienced better Chinese food. read more
A Taiwanese bento box restaurant!! This place is perfect for takeouts. It operates kinda like Panda Express where you point at the items you want and watch them scoop in the food for you :) except Bentolicious feels more homey and is on the healthier side. The default base is rice (I don't think there are other options). You first pick a main entree/protein (my fav is the pork chop) and then 3 side dishes. They have a couple veggie options (deep fried/stir fry), mapo tofu, and tea egg. I usually opt for their egg plant, some greens, and tea egg :) They give a good amount of food (I was able to make 2 meals out of it). A bento box is around $12-14 after tax/before tips depending on what protein you choose. Fairly quick service, cashier man is nice and helpful. Overall, I'd definitely recommend! Will be back to try the honey baked chicken some day. read more

The store lives up to the name! I decided to try this place for lunch after getting recommended by a coworker. It's Panda Express/Chipotle style where you choose your a main dish and then 3 sides to go with it. I decided to get the scallion beef with the eggplant, marinated egg and mapo tofu. The beef was really tasty but my favorite part of the bento was the sides. The eggplant was my favorite but all of the sides were really good. I'd definitely come back here to try the other entrees and sides! read more

Imagine if Panda Express served authentic dishes that taste like home, it would be Bentolicious!! I was recommended Bentolicious by a Taiwanese friend who said their bentos taste like ones she has in Taiwan, so I knew it had to be good. And I was definitely not disappointed! All the dishes reminded me of homecooked food by my mom, simple in flavors but absolutely delicious. Favorite bento: Basil Chicken - the chicken is so tender and well-flavored with the basil, although it may look simple, I liked this much more than the fried chicken, which was under-seasoned in comparison and unfortunately no longer crispy after takeout Favorite sides: - Salt & Pepper Pumpkin: this is sooo good! if you're a fan of pumpkin tempura, this is like a bite sized version and well seasoned with salt, pepper, and some chilis! and it remained crispy after takeout - Mapo Tofu: the mildly spicy sauce with the super soft tofu goes so well with rice! - Szechuan Eggplant with Tofu: has some sweetness to it, which makes a great contrast to other savory sides! Highly highly recommend this place!! This is absolutely the perfect option when you want a hearty, delicious meal with flavors that reminds you of home, and doesn't leave you feeling heavy afterwards! read more

When you enter you are greeted by the workers and they ask you "how many boxes" and were shocked when I said one... after eating one... I understand why people order multiple! The food is cooked fresh and then put out on warmers to be freshly served/ added to your box. They are generous with the portions, especially the rice. Quality wise- not oily or too salty. Normally I don't favor mapo tofu, but there's was pretty tasty and the flavors weren't too overpowering. Veggies were cooked well and seasoned so it was nice to eat on its own. Basil chicken had a nice numbing spice kick to it which I very much enjoyed, but wasn't so spicy that I needed to have extra napkins for sniffles if you know what I mean. Definitely need to go back and try their other main entrees. read more
Decent and quick. I thought it was a Japanese restaurant. It's Taiwanese. The food is pretty good. I ordered the Ichiban Fried Chicken. I wish it was crispier but it's pretty good. I love that they have many veggie choices for sides so you can low-carb. Plus tea stained eggs! The eggplant and tofu side is so good! The basil chicken is spicy. The veggies are cooked well. Not soggy. They've got bite! They always have a chef's special. Today it was Ribs in Black Bean Sauce. I will definitely come back. I want to try Railroad Bento (pork chop) and the Chiayi Organic Chicken. read more

Was in the area running an errand when I found this spot on Yelp. Placed 2 bento orders. Entree: 1) Taiwanese fried chicken- not crispy, batter was powdery, chicken otherwise was tender. 2) Baked/grilled chicken- flavor was good, leg quarter tender and juicy! Sides: Tofu in sauce- Good Fried pumpkin -Delicious! Stir fry celery- Good Tofu- good Broccoli / cauliflower - meh Eggplant- delicious! read more

I got lunch from Bentolicious over the weekend and I was enjoying the food. I had almost finished it when I noticed a steel wool fiber lodged in one piece of the vegetables. My experience was generally fine up until then. But the steel wool fiber was definitely concerning. read more

Hello Alfa, we’re very sorry you had this experience. Thank you very…
SO GOOD!!! I stopped by BentoLicious yesterday in hope to pick up something quick and easy for lunch, and it was exactly what I wanted! You get to pick 1 entree and 3 sides, and they have sooo many selections for the sides. I was so overwhelmed standing there deciding which ones to pick. Everything was delicious and the portions were great! I actually couldn't finish everything in one meal! This place is also very clean, everything was fresh, and the staff were all super friendly! I don't live in this area but I would definitely come back to BentoLicious whenever I am in this area! read more
Bentolicious takes the concept of a Bento Box (rice plate set up with separate compartments) with choose-your-own Chinese selections. The food here is different than a typical Panda Express however, and significantly better I think. Because the Bento box is neatly organized, its great for takeout. The wife loved the black bean ribs - super tender, juicy, and not fatty at all. This dish alone was so good we decided to put Bentolicious on our list of take-out places. The Chaiyi Organic Chicken was on the lighter and. bland side. I was hoping for something like Hainan Chicken Rice but not quite. Still, they have lots of chicken varieties for next time: Ichiban Fried Chicken, Basil Chicken, and Rose Wine Soya! The other nice thing about Bentolicious is the fast turnover of items on the steam table, along with endless variety of veggie side dishes to build your meal. If something runs out, just wait a while and they'll bring stuff out! read more

I live with 4 other housemates, and Bentolicious is our go-to restaurant. We go to Bentolicious almost every single week: for lunch, for dinner, for something quick, for a well-balanced meal, you name it. Everything about Bentolicious is quality, from the signature Ichiban Fried Chicken which I always get, to the rice that has a hint of sweetness, to all the quality sides. Here are some of my favorites: Fried pumpkin - definitely their best side, very unique and well salted Potato stir-fry - just like how my mom makes it Eggplant + Tofu - makes you believe eggplant is a yummy veggie again Leonard, the owner, always works in the front and is always very pleasant to converse with. My housemates and I all feel like we have a personal connection, which speaks greatly to the quality service. If you are around the Pleasanton area and haven't tried this place yet, this is your call to action to give it a try! read more
SUMMARY: Taiwanese wife approved. What more can I say? :) BACKGROUND: Sadly we moved from Pleasanton many moons ago but we're not terribly too far to make the 20 min trip to get here. But this review is long due because we absolutely love this place and the owner and his staff are great. Of note, we were told by my friends who live in Pleasanton (Taiwanese) that the wife used to sell her homemade food to other local Taiwanese in the area and became so popular that she and her hubby decided to open this place. So now you know this is truly a grassroots restaurant! ATMOSPHERE: They do a good job at managing customers coming in and out and have a pretty good barrier between the food and the customers (use chairs and plastic wrap---hey, gotta do what you gotta do). So yes, covid distancing and mask protocols are followed here. They also have some concrete fixtures where you can dine outside as well as a large tree w/ concrete around it to sit and enjoy your food. FOOD: 4.5 / 5 Like others have said, they have a small menu but then again, the food here is well and freshly cooked. It's like going to Panda Express where you order your main entree, rice, and then they ask you what sides. Oh and to mention before I go further: Yes I get it, its not like eating in the motherland and as a non-Taiwanese, I've been there now 6 times in the last 10 years, so I know what homestyle and street Taiwanese food tastes like. But there's nothing unauthentic about this place and wife agrees. We have our preferences. Wife likes their fried pork chops and one beef dish, whose name I can't recall and they usually run out by the time we get there. My fave is their organic chicken mainly because its good (haha) but also I'm eating a lot cleaner now these days. All the side dishes are good to great. My recommendation is that you get the eggplant. I wish I could get a double service, it's really that good. Oh their tea egg is pretty good too. Another thing I wish I could have a double serving of! SERVICE: Really nice. The ladies are all so pleasant and the owner (older gent) and his wife (we don't know who she is) is so cordial to us. He's always so nice to my wife (I think she said they're from the same are in Taiwan once) so he always chats her up when we visit. The only thing though is that its sometimes hard to hear because of the physical barrier between the customers and the servers (and the masks muffle voices too), so that's the only con for me. RETURN VISIT? Oh yes, we love this place. read more

Ugh, Taiwanese restaurants in Dublin are going to be the death of me. So hard to resist, and so close to work. I had heard about BentoLicious since they opened and was eager to try it out. I drove here on a weekday around noon, and the restaurant was busy--not packed, but fairly busy. There was no line, so I took a look at the menu options and ordered right away. The staff were all really friendly and helped me make my decision--I ordered the Chiayi Chicken bento with Taiwenese cabbage, bamboo and shredded potato. It was all delicious and I scarfed it down fairly quickly. The bamboo in particular paired nicely with the chicken. The lady behind the counter (the owner, I think?) said she makes the bamboo less often than the other side dishes, so be sure to try it if it's available! All in all, it was a delicious meal at a great price. I'll definitely be back! read more
A very generous 3 stars. BentoLicious is a Taiwanese bento shop that just opened up in Pleasanton on Hopyard at the corner of Stoneridge. It is literally located in the rear of the large strip center and is very hard to find. The tiny shop with just a few eat in tables and tiny hot item counter. The food is just ok with the standout their Chiayi fried chicken. Pros Chiayi fried chicken Reasonable prices. Food was hot and fresh Newly opened so pretty clean Cons Very limited menu not a lot of choices Hot and sour soup was sad and pricy The counter staff is so slow. The operation is just not suited for any volume of business Poor visibility and location. Ordering and paying process. Closes early. If there were any Chinese fast food restaurants like Panda Express near by they would make business survival for them very difficult. Yes, it's Taiwanese food but a bit too simplistic. They might be better off just selling the Chiayi Fried Chicken, Pork Chops, and the minced pork rice separately. read more

I am thoroughly impressed with this place. I didn't feel like having panda express or Greek or my usual lean cuisine. I searched on Yelp to see what was available and this place was one of the recommendation. I had the railroad bento lunch with sides. Earlier before I came here, I called to see what was available as the sides because it did not show on their website or anywhere else. I called and the gentleman on the phone said I need to come in because I am new. I didn't know what it meant until I arrived. I am definitely impressed with how they care about the customers during the pandemic. They keep their customers in line... Literally... From each other and keep a distance where the hot plate and where the customers are standing. It appears that the sides change each day. One or two items are different each day I'm guessing. I guess I will have to return next time to try the other dishes. The price is decent, the quality is definitely A+. Highly recommended: get the Thai iced tea before it sells out. I got there around 12:20pm and three customer ahead of me bought the last the last drop of the Thai iced tea. If you are too late for the Thai iced tea, try the sarsaparilla soda. It's not a typical sarsaparilla I'm used to but it does change things up with your lunch in a good way. Price: A + Service: A + Quality: A + It's pretty moot at this point if I'm commenting about returning because I'm definitely coming back to try the other items on their menu. read more

Been there a couple times now and i like it. Their main dish stays pretty much the same but side dishes were better the last time i was there. Organic chicken used for their ChiaYi chicken dish, has skin attached. Place is not big, i counted about 14 seats total but clean. The ladies that serve you all wear mouth guards, very hygienic and all nice & friendly. Some favorite sides: eggplant, SiGua w/dried shrimp, Mapo tofu, string bean & beancurd, salt pepper pumpkin... Skip baby bokchoy as it was entirely bland the first time i got it... I dont feel thirsty after and food taste fresh, not oily at all. Will continue to go back if i dont feel like cooking. read more
As a fellow Taiwanese, I have certain expectations when it comes to Taiwanese food. I was skeptical about this place at first with their stellar reviews. Then I tried it once and it was pretty darn good. I'm tasting it again for the second time, and I still like it! There aren't really any Taiwanese restaurants that I'd go out and eat in tri-valley prior to this place. I've only ordered their #1 Ichiban fried chicken breast bento twice because that's what I like and craved. If I had to be nit picky, the chicken breast could be a bit thicker and more "pepper-salt" added. I wanted it to be like a popcorn chicken place where I could freely add as much of that "pepper-salt" as I want. Blame my wife. She eats like that and I'm just following her. =P Another thing that I didn't like was that although you get 3 side dishes for your bento, but because the meal is served on a plastic tray, it has 3 different slot sizes for the sides. The first time I was here, they didn't ask me but placed the first side dish into the biggest space and then second side to the 2nd biggest. This time they actually asked which slot the side should go into. BentoLicious, please provide pepper-salt (胡椒鹽) for your #1 selling chicken breast bento! It's like providing ketchup for fries. Until then, this stays at 4 stars. =P read more
This whole hearty meal is first of all ONLY $8.95!!! It's crazy! Each bento comes with: - Rice: it's the kind that was cooked perfectly and holds together when picked up with chopsticks. Delicious. - Entree: get the Ichiban fried chicken... super delicious. Made with breast meat but it's super juicy and tender. It was lightly battered, Taiwanese style, too. - 3 veggies sides: so many options! Omg!!! Super exciting! They give you a total of about 10 options. I got the winter melon, mapo tofu and egg. read more

Is there a list or images of what the choices are for the sides?
Go back to their Yelp page and scroll down to their website/menu link. That will give you the bento mains list. Scroll down from their to veg entrees and those items are the side dishes.
Can rice be swapped out for extra veggies?
I tried asking today to skip rice and get more veggie instead, but the middle aged Cantonese server with bandana said no.
