I chose this spot for lunch, I ordered online and it was ready within 10 mins! Lots of parking, it's in a plaza with other food spots but it's definitely a must try! It's my first time coming here and trying their food and it won't be my last. As I was parking, I saw the owner talking with the customers outside as they have tables out. Just seeing that, made me feel good about the spot that I'm trying bc the owner is so friendly so I assume they must care about the food quality and service they put out. I ordered scallion black pepper beef with your choice of 3 sides. Mines were soy sauce stewed egg, salt & pepper pumpkin and mixed veggies. First glance, portions are good and reasonable. Quality looks and smells amazing. The beef was tender and well seasoned, veggies in the stir fry plus the mixed veggie sides were still crunchy and vibrant in color. The egg was marinated for a good amount of time for it to have that color without being overly salty. The pumpkin was my favorite because it's seasoned with salt & pepper and jalapeños for the sweet salty and spicy kick. Plus they use a good chunk with light batter. I'm just mad at myself for not eating here before and I've worked around the area for almost two years now. It's now in my rotation to go again heh. 10/10
This is a great spot for a quick meal or takeout order. Favorite choices are the Chiayi organic chicken and the ichiban fried chicken for entrees. All of the sides I've tried are great too but the pumpkin is the standout. Love getting the HK style lemon iced tea as well. There is some seating inside but a lot of people get to go orders. They usually have a steady flow of customers when I've been there but service is still quick and friendly.
Bentolicious is located around the corner from Ssam Korean BBQ, down in Pleasanton. It's across the street from a popular Indian spot, so if you don't know where Bentolicious is just keep walking towards where there's tons of people just waiting outside of the restaurant, and Bentolicious will be across from them at the other building wedged into the last corner of that shopping strip. Bentolicious offers the Taiwan bento lunch experiences, which, as someone who grew up in Taiwan, I can tell you the menu and feel certainly gives off that feeling. It's also interesting they offer specific types of bentos that will mirror the famous bento train box styles that Taiwan has with their rail system, so that's fun. Since this is mainly a takeout spot, just know that the food is already cooked out, and put into trays so when you order they will just scoop and do the takeout for you. Of course the drawback is it may have been sitting there for awhile, but the upside is it will be relatively fast so that's good. Price wise, it's reasonable, particularly for Pleasanton, so good affordable lunch or dinner takeout spot. The basic menu item seems to be pick your protein, and then it comes with 3 sides. There's a variety of sides available here, which is some of the basic stuff you would usually find with the bento like cabbage and stuff, but there's also some stuff that's not so typical of a Taiwan bento, which is fine too. For the side dishes, they were actually pretty decent. The egg plant was tasty. The cabbage was so-so, it's cabbage. The fried squash was yummers. The tofu was also good and delicious. Egg was fine too. However, the fried chicken was underwhelming to say the least. I feel the ones we had today was completely overdone, and just dry and not good anymore. When we ordered, they did offer to fry it fresh, but I assume that just means they refried it, and refried it too much as a result because it was not even remotely what I had hoped for. The breading too, I got really excited because it looked like Taiwan jipa, but when I ate it, it unfortunately was not that. Final verdict? Bentolicious was okay. While there were certainly a lot of upsides with the sides, as those were actually pretty good, and for the price to include 3 sides, makes it all worthwhile. However, if your main feature (the chicken) was not good, it kind of ruined the experience altogether. While I may go back again in the future for some of those sides, I will have to see what other protein options to try out because that fried chicken was not it. Overall, I would still recommend it to anybody looking for a good takeout spot. Who knows, maybe they just overfried it that day for some reason, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
Since our office moved to Pleasanton, this has been a go to spot for lunch as it provides really tasty and high-quality food, with the ability to customize your Chinese bento each time. The owners and crew are friendly and efficient, and they also do an outstanding job catering at a cost-effective price. One of my favorite dishes is the organic shredded chicken, which is served over white rice and topped with both the soy sauce and oil-based sauce, with a choice of three sides. My favorite sides are the fried pumpkin along with the spicy eggplant and whatever sautéed greens they have that day. They have plenty of other main dish choices (eg, basil chicken, fried chicken, braised chicken leg, pork, etc. ) and various sides to choose from as well The restaurant isn't large but there are a few tables inside and outside to eat at if you like, along with bottled drinks if you want to purchase them. Would definitely give Bentolicious a try!
Small place with only a couple tables. Most people just order to go and eat elsewhere. Taiwan comfort food, bento (lunchbox) styles. Reasonable price. You get to pick one protein and 3 sides. Protein: Fried Chicken- supposedly their known dish. It was alright. Fried Pork Chop - dried and tough. And soaked in some overly salty sauce. Meh Sides: Fried pumpkins - not bad Mapo tofu - not bad Eggplants- not bad Stir fried Bean Sprouts - meh They also have special soup of the for additional cost.
This place has become mine and my wifes favorite place to eat when were in pleasanton. The food here is SO good, the railroad track pork cutlet is a must. They also do the hot sour soup sometimes which my wife loves esp during the cold months. The service is always spot on and its a great little place to grab a bite any day of the week.
Amazing food and service as always! Ingredients are never too heavy/oily. Authentic food with owners who have genuine passion about their mission and serving fresh food made with care! I usually get the railroad pork chop bento or the chiayi organic chicken bento. For my most recent visit, I got the railroad pork chop bento with the following 3 sides: tofu, eggplants, and fried pumpkin. The fried pumpkin is my favorite side. It's fried wonderfully and has a light and crispy batter. Their night market party wings are also one of my favorite items. The batter and seasoning is spectacular. Handful of tables inside. Plenty of parking in the lot. Love their concept and variety!
I actually came here a number of years back (pre-COVID) and glad to see it's still around and doing well. Even on a Monday, people were bustling in to get their bento boxes. The staff speak Cantonese, but they understand Mandarin and English as well. Bentolicious has a selective menu with some seasonal specials. You pick a main entree, three side dishes, and rice. I opted for the basil chicken entree with the stir fried eggplant, steamed veggies, and fried pumpkin (seasonal). Portion sizes are generous. The basil chicken was mildly spicy and the stir fried eggplant and fried pumpkin were cooked to perfection. If you're looking for a place with good Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong style (take your pick) food with quick and friendly service, and generous portion sizes, come check out Bentolicious!
We were in the neighborhood and needed some lunch. We were looking around on Yelp and BentoLicious popped up and we were intrigued. In short, if you're in need to find quick food to-go, then hop on by! L O C A T I O N BentoLicious is located in a shopping complex kind of off on the side. Parking is a bit hard especially when it's a weekend or busy lunch times. We ended up parking near Maverick's and walked over. I N S I D E It's not a huge spot, but they have seating inside as well as outside. You start your order on the left side not at the cash register which is directly in front of the door. M E N U It's fairly straight forward. They have Taiwanese style bentos now....bento is a Japanese word for a preportioned packed meal so it's just used here in a way that it's a packed meal to go. They have a variety of protein to choose from: chicken (variety of styles), pork, beef, and a non protein of veggies which they place on a bed of steamed white rice. Then you get to choose 3 sides which you kind of point at. I wish they had signs of what each was but I hear that if you look at their menu, it's basically a subset of their vegetable entrees from their party tray menu. They had 9 to choose from when we came in. We opted to get the Railroad Pork Chop. It didn't look as crispy as we were hoping for but we still went ahead and ordered it and to get our crispy craving we ordered popcorn chicken which took an additional 10 minutes which we didn't mind waiting. For our sides, we chose the eggplant with tofu, sauteed bok choy and salt & pepper pumpkin. The pork chop was wet which I wasn't expecting though it did look wet when we got it. The flavor was a bit bland. I've never had Railroad Pork Chop, so I didn't know what it was supposed to taste like or how the texture should be, but the overall flavor just fell flat for me. The eggplant and tofu was great and I would easily come back for that pumpkin squash. The bok choy was decent and was really chosen so that we didn't feel too bad about not having veggies in our meal. It did have garlic which of course everything else did have, so I just took a pepcid to combat my ailing old stomach. The popcorn chicken was good, but wish it did have more white pepper to taste. I wish it also was more moist as it felt a bit dry. S E R V I C E We had called in initially to order but since we were only ordering one bento, they told us to come in so that we can choose our sides. We paid at the register easily by credit card. Fast, kind, and easy service! O V E R A L L If you want something quick and filling, definitely give this place a shot. If you're ordering outside of their bentos then perhaps call that order in so that you don't have to wait. Other than that, not too shabby.
This place is a hidden gem! You might pass over it thinking it's just another take out spot in the back corner of a complex, but the food here is seriously good. I ordered the Ichiban Fried Chicken Brest Bento (#1), and opted for the Mapo Tofu, Eggplant, and Bok Choy sides. First of all, the chicken was a huge, juicy piece of meat, on top of a generous portion of rice. Such a good deal! The sides are what rally shined for me. THE EGGPLANT OMG. I might even ask to make all 3 of my sides just the eggplant next time lol. The eggplant was just soooo umami and so flavorful, and although I normally am not a bok choy fan, I did really like it here, and it balanced out the oils from the chicken well. The tofu was pretty standard, nothing special although still good. I appreciated the extra protein from the tofu, but I may try the marinated egg instead next time! They had run out of chicken when I ordered it but they were very clear to me that it would be just 5 more minutes and it's be out, and they filled up my sides and rang me up in the meantime. Overall they were very kind and helpful.

The bento box was really good! The pumpkin side was crispy, soft, and salted nicely. The Fried chicken breast is really good too with nice and light flavor. Would recommend buying a box of popcorn chicken too! Service was nice and I got in and out in less than five minutes. The interior has a cozy vibe. read more

Yummy! They have an array of entree to select from and even more choices for side dishes. The railroad pork chop was tender, and flavorful. It was delicious! Definitely an entree we will get again whenever we're in the area. Even if it means to take out and eat for another meal. The fried chicken breast was crispy, tender and flavorful. It was so good as it wasn't oily either. You'll want to eat this fresh! The organic shredded chicken was alright. The flavor came from the sauces poured over while the chicken itself was bland. It would have been great had the chicken been blanched with ginger at the least so that the aroma of the chicken stands out. This was the entree we didn't enjoy as much. The sides we enjoyed were: fried pumpkin, green beans, and Napa cabbage. read more
We came here when they initially opened but have not been able to go back. At the time, our kids preferred eating pizzas, burgers, etc. Flash foward, kids are out of the house so hubby and I dropped by. We ordered the Ichiban Fried Chicken and the Basil Chicken. The fried chicken was just as good as I remembered. It was juicy, flavorful, and not a bit greasy. The only downside may be is that it is a little thin. The basil chicken was delicious as well, it had a slight kick. I loved the fact that we can pick our sides and there is a good assortment to choose from. The fried pumpkin and eggplant are my favorites. I thought the portion size was good too. We weren't able to finish our bento and saved it for a later lunch. Love this place!! Kind of expensive for takeaway (what isn't these days?!) but worth the cost. Service was enthusiastic and friendly, flavors delicious, portions healthy, and process was FAST. I was running an errand at the nearby mall and decided to drop by this place to order lunch. I ordered the railroad pork chop bento which includes 3 sides (my choices were tofu, cabbage & eggplant) and rice. In terms of flavor, the pork chop was pretty dry and the cabbage lacked flavor. Fortunately, the tofu was decent and the eggplant was actually delicious. Parking is plentiful. read more

We made a pit stop at BentoLicious on our way to Yosemite. I'm a huge fan of bentos so was excited to this place! BentoLicious is tucked away in a commercial (?) area so don't be deterred if the navigation takes you somewhere you wouldn't expect. Once you arrive, there's plenty of parking in the plaza along with some seating outside the store (~2-3 people per table). I got the Ichiban Fried Chicken Breast Bento. There are a variety of side dishes you can choose from (you get 3). I opted for fried sweet potato/squash, eggplant, and bok choy. Surprisingly, I thought the side dishes were better than the chicken, but please note that my bento had been sitting in the car for a while which may be why I didn't enjoy the chicken as much. The store owner had recommended that we eat it right away so I will for sure be back to try it fresh out of the box. The portions were reasonable. One bento is enough for one person. The ratio of chicken, side dishes, and rice was also pretty even. When in doubt, give this place a try! read more

OMG! I am so glad I had found this place when I was super hungry and around the area. I looked it up on yelp and found all the positive reviews so I figured I would give it a try. When I arrived there was lots of open parking, they had available seating outside and inside. The lady greeted me and was sooo friendly, they had all their food out so you can see what you are choosing. She recommended the fried chicken since it was their best selling. I was going to get the organic chicken just because I was trying to eat healthy lol. Well I got the fried chicken like she said, bok choy and this other vegetable she said was popular. I can't remember what it was called. Everything was put on top of white rice. They give you a generous amount too, I'd say the perfect amount to get you full but not to send you into food coma. All the food was fresh and not like it was sitting out all day. I asked her if they had sauce for the fries chicken, she told me it's marinated in its own sauce you won't need any. I got 3 sides because that's what it came with and man the tofu, bok choy and the other popular side she requested me to get were all so darn good. I couldn't even wait to eat it my mouth was watering. I definitely can't wait to come back here that's how good this place was. I'd definitely recommend it, they are quick as well when servicing so no long wait. read more

Delicious taiwanese bento, really warms my heart. Very homey dishes. The portion is good. Although I have yet to eat a single bento by myself, as every time I've gone I end up sharing for a light lunch. You pick an entree and three sides. Very friendly people and the method is quick and efficient. The beancurd and eggplant side dish is my favorite, so delicious. I love the garlic sauce. So fragrant. I love eggplant. I love tofu. It's a winner for sure. The dish is flavorful and goes well with everything (like rice or the veggies that are lightly cooked (less sodium)). The other side dishes I've tried are mapo tofu, baby bok choy, sauteed cabbage and carrots, and salt and pepper pumpkin. All are tasty and cooked just right. The veggies are nice and light, still crisp, not overcooked. The tofu is tender and in a stronger flavored sauce. I did find the pumpkin to be a little too salty, however. But still, kabocha was cooked down (soft) and delicious. Railroad porkchop bento is a classic taiwanese item and so tasty. Nicely braised and flavorful. Tender. I was very happy to eat this. The beef bento was also good too. The stir fry was with aromatics, onions, and bell peppers. Really delicious! The beef was tender and flavorful as well. I hope in the future to stop by on the day they have the fried fish entree! It looks good too. Otherwise I've got my eye on the fried chicken entree to try next. read more

Their bento box is a generous portion that lasts me 2 meals. I usually get their fried chicken which is delicious!!! My two favorite sides are their pumpkin and egg plant. I also love their tofu. What a cool found when I was out in Pleasanton. Didn't think I would be eating a Taiwanese bento box. Located in a small strip mall, this spot has plenty of homemade dishes for you to try. I grabbed a fried chicken bento box which came with 3 sides. I asked for some veggie dishes but also added a tea egg. This box was more than enough for 2 meals. The fried chicken was a little dry. It was pre-cooked but still had some good flavor. I enjoyed the sides it came with. I didn't know what I was getting so I just pointed at what looked good. Haha. For under $13, worth a visit if you're craving some Taiwanese food. read more
It's been nearly a year since we last visited and I have to say that they are consistent in quality and efficiency. You enter, you get into line. You order one entree and three sides. Arrive early and get the most choices for your three sides. Arrive late and well, even the available sides are still delicious! Service can be extremely friendly or mildly friendly but always efficient. They have their processes down. Go in. Order. Eat. Go back to work! read more

It a very local Taiwanese bento box place. Ordered the basil chicken and the pork chop rice. You get to order one entree and 3 sides. The options are also very delicious, we opted for the marinated hard boiled egg, eggplants, veggies, and the popular fried yam. It's all really delicious. The owner cordially gave us an intro knowing it was our first time. There wasn't anyone eating at the store when we were there but there are a few tables for dine in. Wow, this is about as close as you can get to a Chiayi, Taiwan Lunch Box. The main difference is the meat and price. In Taiwan you can get a Turkey Rice Lunch Box for about 90NT, which is about $3USD. Here it costs about $15 but then again we are not in Taiwan, so of course the price will vary. Taste and Quality of the food is Top Notch. The service is very friendly as well. I also like the Pumpkin side, which tastes like a seasoned potato to me, yum. All and all, a really good Bento Box restaurant, especially if you miss your Taiwan lunch boxes. This is about as close as you can get to the real thing, and it is right here in Pleasanton. read more
Authentic Taiwanese bento boxes! I come here whenever I'm feeling homesick and nostalgic for good Taiwanese food. For the bento, you get to pick an entree and 3 sides, cafeteria-style. Their sides are always changing depending on what's in season but I've tried the stir-fried eggplant, soy sauce-marinated egg, spicy mapo tofu, and sauteed veggies. For the entree, the ichiban fried chicken was nicely breaded, not too heavy or oily, and the meat was super tender and juicy. The railroad pork chop was also flavorful and tender. Both are classic taiwanese bento items that I would order again. Everything tastes freshly cooked and service was fast and welcoming. The portions are also large, which somewhat makes up for the steep price (around $15). read more

Found this hidden gem near my workplace and I absolutely love their Bento Plate. I ordered the beef stir fry with bok choy, tofu and fried pumpkin and everything was fresh and delicious. The beef is so soft and moist and everything else is just full of flavors that you'll love. All of the staffs and business owner are very nice and friendly. The portion of food is very generous that it'll definitely fill you up during your lunch hours. Definitely recommend!!! read more
Friendly family owned business serving delicious Taiwanese/Chinese eats in 'bento' lunch box form. Perfect for a satisfying lunch break, or an easy take home meal. Lots to pick from the line, made with authentic preparation and flavors makes for a great lunch option to make a trip out of the office for, every time. For proteins, the pork chop or fried chicken are always winners... This shop is inside a shopping plaza with plenty of curbside parking from easy coming and going. Some seating both inside and outside make immediate enjoyment an option alongside the convenient takeout. read more
First time to visit this taiwanese bento box restaurant for togo dinner . A family owned business with friendly services made me feel comfortable , you could choose up to 3 wide orders for a bento . The pork chop was average , but in general good size in food portion . $32 for two bento togo would definitely acceptable . They should consider to have more side order options to choose . read more

This place is so clean!! Which is such an important factor especially during the pandemic. It's like a Taiwanese family-style bento place, where you pick your protein, and three sides out of multiple options. The meat portions are always generous, and the sides are pretty good as well. Stopped by Tuesday night to pick up dinner. There was one person ordering as I entered and as I was leaving there were 4 people after me. They had two specials: lions head meatball and a shrimp dish (forgot what it was called). Ordered the following 1) shrimp special w/ green beans, eggplant tofu, and glass noodles. 2) fried chicken w/ eggplant tofu, mapo tofu, and salt pepper pumpkin. 3) small hot and sour soup The guy who took my order asked if I'd like sauce over the shrimp which I did. The cashier did ask if I'd like to also buy soup and I agreed since it was chilly weather. She also let me know it was 10 cents for a plastic bag and asked if I needed any utensils. They do have a cup of clean pens to use when you sign the receipt and a cup to place the dirty pens in. I really appreciate business who practice this. Everything I got was delicious! I love being able to choose sides with your main entree. I really enjoyed the eggplant tofu and the salt pepper pumpkin (some pieces though were on the salty side). Very much looking forward to my next visit. I hope they have the black bean ribs. read more
I've been to Bentolicious multiple times now and am just getting around to writing their review. I love this place so much and am so happy to have found it. Super lucky that they are just a 5 minute drive from my place! First time I went, I got 4 bento boxes. It was near their closing time and the owner was there. He gave generous portions and each bento box comes with rice, one entree and two sides. Their meat entrees vary with the day. One the day we went, we tried their fried pork chops, sweet and sour fried fish, fried chicken and stir fried beef bento. Their food is so delicious and authentic! We loved every single one of them. I especially like the fish with sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was really great compliment to the fish and rice. The pork chop was great flavor and crispy and delicous as well. The sides vary also with the day, but usually they would have a few different stir-fried veggies (broccoli, bok choy, squash), tofu, soy sauce eggs, etc. Their food in general is very delicious and taste very homemade. They great quality ingredients and are very clean. The food has no msg and light on the salt to be more "healthy", but is still good flavor. It reminds me of my grandma's home cooking which I miss very much. Second time we went, we got the the family meal combo for ~$40. This can feed 3 adults easily, but possibly a bit short on quantity for 4 adults. They only have the family meals M,W,F and must be ordered in advance online. The day we ordered, we got the curry chicken and black bean pork ribs. Both were quite delicious in flavor. Chicken in the curry was tender and great flavor. The black bean pork was soft and tender as well. I loved both. Only qualm I have is that I feel that the quantity was a bit small for the meat dishes. They could definitely have given more since they were cooking in large batches. Overall, love this place and will be coming here frequently! Great spot for lunch on the go! This place is located in a shopping center with lots of parking. Line wasn't too long when I showed up around 1pm on a Monday. To order, start on the left end of the glass. Tell them your choice of main dish, then go towards the right and point out which three sides you want. Then, pay at the cash register. I ordered the all veggie bento. I appreciate that the man behind the counter asked if I was vegetarian and told me which dishes contained oyster sauce. I'm not a strict vegetarian, so I didn't mind, but that would be very helpful for others. Because there aren't any main veggie dishes, I got to choose a veggie side as my main to put over rice. Main - eggplant: Really tasty! I love how the sweet sauce coats the rice. There were also a few fried tofu pieces which were nice for protein and textural difference. Side 1 - mapo tofu: Soft tofu with very lightly spicy sauce. Honestly wasn't very spicy and this is coming from someone who can't handle spice. More substantial side compared to some of the vegetable ones. Side 2 - pumpkin: Favorite side! Crispy and well seasoned pumpkin pieces. Side 3 - bok choy: Classic stirred fried vegetables. If I recall correctly, the total was about $15-16 for the whole box. Overall, convenient and satisfying meal! read more
This is a pretty cute restaurant concept with a changing menu and cafeteria styled ordering. S and I like to eat here when we're craving something homey. The flavors are so authentic and we like the amounts of food they give. Our favorites are the fried pumpkin and eggplant. We pretty much always order those two. The vegetables add a sense of healthiness to the fried katsu that is S's favorite. It's a bit pricey which is why we don't go too frequently, but it really does hit the spot. read more

the place is not that big but ok. the ambience and staffs are ok. service is quite fast. they have eight kinds of entrees and you pick one and then can pick another three veggies. tried the pork chop and will say it is just ok but will say the eggplants and salted pepper fried pumpkins are great. fried pumpkins is very recommended. the pumpkin itself is sweet and then they mix it with salt, pepper, garlic, jalapeño, and dried chili make it even perfect. price is average... read more
Came on Saturday when they open for dinner to-go and there was already a line, waited around 20 minutes to order. Love all the bentos from here, they have a simple menu but every single item is delicious! Really reminds me of the food in Taiwan. My favorite is their fried chicken - it's not too oily yet it's moist and tender. All the food freshly made. You can order family meal online for pickup or you can order in person for bentos and other items. Although I already tried most items on their menu but I still wanted to come back again and again when I want some Taiwanese comfort food. read more
Covid-19 Take Out Update: ordered a family meal ($35) from their website along with a pound of fried chicken. The family meal came with a two boxes of entrees and a veggie. They didn't pack it until I arrived at the restaurant, so everything was hot and fresh. The stewed chicken with shiitake and button mushrooms was super tasty with a rich sauce. Salty and packed with an umami punch. Mushrooms were thick and "meaty". Really excellent with rice. The flavors were classic oyster sauce and soy. The chicken was super tender and the marinade penetrated to the center of the nuggets. Mmmmmmm! The fried egg and shrimp was amazing! It had nice "wok flavor" and the egg was very silky. Our little one couldn't stop eating it. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Lots of flavor in a simple dish. Yeah! I had a choice of veggie and I picked bok choy. It was also super good. Nicely seasoned with a touch of ginger and a pinch of salt. So good even our veggie hating lil guy ate some. The amount was quite generous. We didn't get any rice because we made it at home, but that's an option. We added on a pound of fried chicken. Now, this is really interesting. It's super good, but not exactly what I imagined in my mind. They use white meat cutlets that are pounded into thin planks. The coating is reminiscent of Chinese salt-pepper mix (like the stuff for salt-pepper fried shrimp or pork chops), but not as intensely salty. I suspect it's because they don't use MSG. Also, it's a gentle breading, kinda like at some Japanese places. It's not intensely crunchy like popcorn chicken. It's also not spicy! It's a good deal at $13/pound. Reheat in a convection toaster oven for best results! The store was not crowded, but there was a steady flow of masked patrons. Employees are friendly and very efficient. Can rice be swapped out for extra veggies?
I tried asking today to skip rice and get more veggie instead, but the middle aged Cantonese server with bandana said no.
