I was nervous about ordering here as I saw a review that mentioned that the food arrives cold and I'm very against hot foods being cold, the food tastes very different and microwaving it is a no go for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised and very relieved when the food was piping out when my boyfriend arrived from picking it up. He got the chicken teriyaki while I got the mackerel teriyaki as a reviewer mentioned that they remove all the bones. Mackerel is one of my favorite fishes but I just ate the time consuming and pain of the bones. The teriyaki sauce was sweet and savory and coated the cooked vegetables and spring mix below the entree which was really good. The mac salad was delightful with great textures from the macaroni, onions, carrots, corn and other goodies. My boyfriend enjoyed his chicken teriyaki and I also appreciated that it wasn't overly charred or burnt like many other teriyaki joints or sushi restaurants do. We have been looking for a legit curry kastu place on the eastside for some time and chanced upon bento-ya gomen. It is located in a small shopping area with enough parking. The restaurant itself does not have seating so is mainly takeout. They have a good variety of food on the menu and some dishes and drinks in the fridge for convenience. The food itself was BOMB. The katsu was perfectly fried and crispy and the curry was rich and delicious. It was a bit spicy for kids, but highly recommend all of it. We think this may be one of the best curry katsus on the eastside. The service was decently fast, but I recommend ordering ahead since frying to perfection takes some time. Good Japanese food is hard to find on Eastside, and Bento-ya Goemon looked to be a pretty interesting option that has been on my to try list for some time. So I thought it would be a good opportunity to try while heading east to go into the mountains - we stopped by around 6pm and were able to get our orders placed in. When I was visiting this restaurant, it was only pick-up - mostly due to no seating options in the restaurant. You could tell that this was cozy family owned restaurant. Ordering is done at the cashier and usually they will have to take a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. My order took about 15 minutes for preparation and we just came back to the restaurant afterwards to pick up our orders. I got the Shoukado Bento ($23.50), which was a sizeable bento with rice, sashimi, sushi, teriyaki, and tempura. A good variety of options, with both hot and cold dishes. If you are feeling especially hungry, this would be a solid pick to fulfill that appetite. The tempura was crispy and had a nice crunch - I was a fan of the pepper tempura as that is a vegetable that I don't usually see in other Japanese restaurants in the area. I liked that there was a good variety of fish, from raw to cooked with sauce - they were fresh and had good flavor. The tuna sashimi was meaty and the grilled salmon was tender. The pickled vegetables in the middle of the bento was a nice touch, as it provided a palate cleansing crunch as a transition between the big variety in the box. In the end, I would say this was the most variety packaged into a bento box I've had in Seattle so far. There have been other Japanese restaurants that don't give you this amount of food and variety on the Eastside, and this is definitely one of the more solid restaurants in the Issaquah area. We dropped off some returns at UPS next door and stopped by here. We ordered 5 bento boxes- (2 katsu, mackerel, tempura, and tofu). Took about 15 minutes to get our food. The total was about $80. It's a small little place for basically takeout. The gal was nice and professional. Their bento box setup is so pretty with all the colors and the food arranged just so delicately. We stopped by this little place in issaquah. It's a tiny place without a restroom or any seating area. Great for take out. Food was ready in 20 min. They offer to bring it out to the car. Chicken shared a chicken katsu bento box which definitely had enough chicken for both girls. My husband and I had the lunch special with grilled salmon and spicy tuna roll. It's a nice presentation and I think it's a good amount of salmon, which was well cooked but slightly under seasoned. I loved the macaroni salad! What a real nice surprise! We were literally just driving past this plaza to get lunch down the road when I noticed Bento-ya Goemon's storefront. I changed my mind about where to get lunch and decided to get a bento from here instead. I ordered the lunch special Goemon bento with karaage and California roll. It was ready in about 5 minutes! Everything in the bento was well made and had a great balance overall. The karaage was fresh and juicy, and although it was not super crispy, it had a good, humble flavour. There aren't places that offer bento style food. I'm used to going in and seeing the bentos premade and ready to purchase. Not here. You need to order what you want then wait for it. Which may take 30-45 min. Luckily there a few stores nearby to kill time. I did see most people just pick up there phone orders. So you should do that before going here. We ordered 2 of the Shoukadou-chix teriyaki, grilled salmon, shrimp & veggie tempura, tuna and salmon sashimi, 1/2 cali roll, edamame & tamago. And chicken katsu bento. Overall the portions were reasonable. But it was just ok. It seemed a lot orders for the chic karaage. So maybe next time we'll get that. read more

As a regular take-out only spot, Bento-ya Goemon's normal operations seemed largely uninterrupted by today's new dining standards in light of the pandemic. With this said, they continue to excel in what they do best... cooking quality food and creating the most presentable bentos I've ever seen. They are works of art! Two of us each ordered a Makunouchi Bento ($17.50) which were filled to the brim with tempura shrimp and veggies, a mini piece of grilled salmon, teriyaki chicken, California Roll, edamame, cooked vegetables, rice and a couple other small items. When eating out, there's nothing I enjoy more than tasting a bite of everything, so this bento is my absolute dream! From the crispy tempura to the salty / sweet teriyaki, fresh California Roll, and little portion of tart seaweed salad, this was a diverse mix of both textures and flavors. My favorite elements of the bento were tied between the California Roll (a general favorite of mine) and the tempura which included a generous serving of three shrimp and various vegetables. A couple components missed the mark for me. Unfortunately, while the salmon was moist and cooked well, I didn't taste any grill flavor and the piece was much smaller than anticipated. I barely consider it to be a main item of the meal since it was literally only two bites worth. Additionally, the chicken teriyaki was tasty, but did not have the char that I always crave. It also could have used more sauce to coat the meat and for drizzling over my rice. It's easy to order through their website, which they advertise can be ready in 30 minutes. When we arrived, our food was sitting on the counter already bagged, so we were easily in and out. The single employee at the counter was friendly, respectfully wore a mask and kept a safe distance. In addition to a few bento options, they offer a number of different entree plates served with rice and pasta salad. They also have some bowls and sushi roll options to choose from. I was craving Japanese food yesterday and so I convinced my family to get takeout from Bento-ya Goemon. My mom and I had been here before for lunch, but we thought my brother and dad would not get full off of their bentos. However, we made extra rice at home and it proved to be enough to satisfy their hunger. We ordered the Shokadou bento, the Goemen bento, the Sukiyaki, and the Chicken Teriyaki bento. We called our order in and our food was to be ready in 25 minutes. My mom and I drove over and we received our food within a couple of minutes of arriving. The hostess was very friendly and efficient. She was also wearing a mask. I had the Shokadou because I really wanted some sashimi. Both the salmon and tuna sashimi were tender and fresh. The California rolls were also freshly made and had a soft texture. The tempura compartment included shrimp, eggplant, white sweet potato, yam, and some sort of mild green pepper. It was not overly greasy which was a plus. Both the chicken and the salmon were okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. While I did not try the other bentos, my dad said he wished that the chicken was more charred in his chicken teriyaki. My brother also wished that his sukiyaki had more broth, but maybe there are different types of sukiyaki. With only a select number of Japanese restaurants on the Eastside, it is likely that I'll come back here for lunch. However, I can't say it will be my number one go-to for Japanese food. The food at Bento-ya Goemon is consistently good! It's the most authentic Japanese food I've had in Issaquah since Sushiman closed. My favorite is the Shoukadou bento. The sashimi is fresh & high quality, the slices are generous & the daikon garnish is long, very thin & curly - cut true to Japanese tradition. Since I was passing through Issaquah during lunch time I figured I'd get something there for lunch today and fell upon Bento-ya Goemon while scrolling through yelp. I ordered to go by walking in. They have a sign up saying only one person inside at a time and to wait outside or in your car and they'll deliver it to your car if you decide to wait there. It's a decent sized bento and what I really enjoyed was the fact it had small amounts of extra sides. Mine had a little bit of seaweed salad, some edamame, a bit of Tamagoyaki and tempura fishcake besides the larger sides of rice and macaroni salad. I think the weakest part of the bento was probably the salmon. It wasn't bad by any means but if I was to come back, I would likely try a different meat option. read more

We love this local, small business! It's Family owned and they truly care about their customers! They only do take out, but it's absolutely perfect for covid time. We love getting their bento options. In our most recent order we got the Shoukadou bento which included Chicken teriyaki, grilled wild salmon, tempura, sashimi, 1/2 California roll, edamame and tamago! It was a perfect balance & amount of food. I honestly ate the tempura in the car while it was still crispy and saved the rest for when we got home. My husband got the chicken Katsu curry and it was definitely a smaller portion than their bentos, but still a decent amount of food for the price. In the past, I tried their king salmon special and unfortunately it was little more on the cooked / dry side for my liking, but to be fair I normally like my fish medium rare and not cooked all the way through. I should of maybe requested them to cook it medium rare if possible, but we were in a bit of a rush that time around. We also tried some of their desserts, they had an opera cake and light Japanese's fluffy cheesecake along with panna cotta. We went with the fluffy cheesecake and it did not disappoint.
