The staff is always super friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. They've got plenty of options too--soup, sushi, and more so there's something for everyone. It's conveniently located about 5 minutes from Target, perfect for a quick shop-and-eat run. The place is always clean and comfortable. First visit, ordered a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box and it was fine. Chicken was dry and needed much more sauce than they provided, but overall, a fine meal. Second time, ordered a Cali-Fry Roll, a deep fried California Roll. Roll came out a bit.... sloppy ? I don't know how else to describe it.. The roll was deep fried and I imagined that would mean it would be crispy, but instead it was soggy and sloppily covered in sauce that just made the whole meal very.. wet. The kid at the front desk gave us menus and told us to find a table and when we're ready to order, come back to the front. Cool. So we find a table, realize we have questions and go up to the front desk because now I have questions of the menu and apparently there's no service of that kind! As soon as we walked up he asked us if we were ready to order. I said not quite... and quickly he told us then we need to go sit down. That we are not allowed to be up at the front in case other customers come in. Are you freaking kidding me?? I have questions but can't even get them answered bc I can't stand at the front. When ordering take-out from Bento Box and one asks for a recommendation, they reply with "I am not comfortable with this conversation." We've given them many chances. If over $50 (when isn't it?), they require that one pays in advance. Who do they think they are? The food is okay. I was very disappointed with my recent experience with Bento box this evening. I ordered the Korean Barbecue Chicken Bowl and Chicken Ramen for the first time. And I waited 36 minutes for overcooked Korean Barbecue Chicken. Though there was a nice amount of chicken, there were hardly any edible pieces of chicken to eat. And the vegetable portion size is just basically for presentation. As for the Chicken Ramen, I am pleased, as it's hard to go wrong with Ramen. There were only about 3/4 tables with people dining in. The rest had to be online orders like mine. Safe to say I won't be ordering the bowl again. read more

The location is swell. It's in the heart of downtown, almost midtown. There are tons of other restaurants and businesses nearby. It's mainly street parking but there are a few paid lots and parking structures nearby. The service is alright. Our server came by to check on us about once. The sushi did come out quickly though. Id say our meal came out in about 10 minutes. The portions are averagely sized. They are your "large" sushi rolls but still will likely need 3 orders to get full (depending on your hunger). The prices are average for sushi in 2025. I'd say each roll is about $15, definitely expect to walk out of here for around $45 for a meal for two. This makes it a ($$$) for me but the flavor of the rolls were really good. I loved the sauce they used and the caviar was nice and crunchy. I also liked the cooked rolls they have. I always get the sake bombs when I come. Bottom line/TLDR: great sushi spot! read more

Definitely check out this place for Monday through Friday daily specials. There's different bento boxes to choose from. They also have plenty of rolls. I like going for the bento boxes. Everything taste delicious and this is located near the college so the foot traffic can get a little crazy and busy. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot. The last time I was here they were undergoing some renovations in the bathroom, but they were still usable. They give you a hassle and make you pay an extra dollar or more for the smallest amount of spicy mayo. They barely put any fish on the rolls. Every location I've went to is like this. My daughter and I had a pretty good meal here the other day. We both got bento boxes. My daughter loved the tempura sushi roll and enjoyed her teriyaki chicken. I had the teriyaki salmon, which had good flavor but was a little overcooked. The tempura vegetables were nice, hot, and crispy, but more variety would have been nice. I had a horrible experience eating here. I placed my order, and although the cashier repeated it correctly, they entered it incorrectly. When my food came out, I told the waiter it was wrong (mistakes happen). The manager came out and basically told me that because the cashier had repeated my order and I agreed, nothing could be done. She said that if I wanted the item I originally ordered, I would have to place an additional order. She was very rude about it--to the point that the waiter later came back and offered to pay for the item out of their own pocket. To make matters worse, the item they gave me cost $5 more than the one I actually wanted. I would not recommend eating here. This manager does not care about customers or ensuring they are properly accommodated. She needs additional training, or the restaurant will continue to lose customers. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for the longest but they were either closed when we went to try them or I got out voted. Luckily, we were driving around trying to look for a good spot. Found them again and arrived 30 min before they closed. We felt bad going in so late but we were hungry and I had a long drive back to the Bay. When we got in, we asked if we can still order and the lady at the counter was super kind and said yes. To help them a little, we asked to have the food in to-go boxes so less clean up and easy for us to pack up and go. Food looked and smelled AMAZING!! Everything we ordered was BOMB! Instead, I got 6 tiny pieces (each was about the size of a quarter or a nickel) of well-done/overcooked tuna. This review is based off to-go only. It's been a while since I had bento box but was craving for some sushi. I ended up ordering 4 different sushi for myself! It took me few meals to finish them all lol. I ordered Kilamanjaro, Lake Tahoe, Fireworks and Cali-Fry. To be honest, they were all pretty similar to one another. Have almost the same ingredients. The rolls were pretty big. Tons of rice though. Overall, I enjoyed the all the rolls. I learned my lesson, no more being greedy for ordering so much as once. I would like to give this place a 2.75 stars. Not quite 3 and not quite 2. My reason being is that it seems like a hit or miss. The first time I went to this place was on 9/26/25- (first photo) I got the bento box lunch special which contained, teriyaki chicken, popcorn chicken, cucumbers, rice, and a salad. I didn't have high hopes, but, it was pretty decent. Enough for me to go back at least, but not too soon as their prices are a bit high for a lunch special, but they do give you a lot of food like a dinner plate. I went back today 10/29/25, almost a month later, & let's say I won't be back for a while. The food seemed to be okay, but t for whatever reason, I receieved some old ass salad. I'm pregnant, & I was really looking forward to eating this salad, but instead, tossed the whole thing in the trash. I wondered why they would serve it, it's clearly turning brown (check the photo). & not only that, lettuce is cheaper than almost anything in this bento box!! Why cheap out on it? If we could pay these places by how their food tasted, I'm sure it would be a hit everytime, & that's how they should prepare every plate/meal served to their customers. read more

Bento Box offers decent teriyaki bento boxes. Decent amount of foods, but I felt like the flavor was a bit lacking from the chicken. It wasn't super special and the teriyaki sauce came to the rescue. The pickled cucumbers didn't fit my taste as much, but they're a nice addition to the plate. I think next time I head here for lunch, I'll try different bento boxes to see which one may be better. Been coming here since I was in sac state and used to live across the parking lot in the university apartments over a decade ago. Now its a spot to hit up on the way home to the bay from going on trips to Tahoe with my husband but one thing that hasn't changed is this little restaurant that has such good bentos and sushi. The prices are good, portions are really nice and the quality is always wonderful. Favs are definitely the spicy cali fry and fair oaks for sushi. I ordered the sizzling honey chicken plate and my husband ordered a bento of salmon and short ribs. They staff are very friendly and the service is quick. Not sure why this location has such an overall mediocre rating but I got the heart attack roll and bento box #4. It was really good. They give a lot of food. We figured out that we needed to order at the register after a few minutes had passed; they don't tell you that you order up at the front, but the wait time for the food makes up for that! I would recommend this place, especially if you're going to Sac State and need a fast and easy meal with fairly decent prices. read more

When i went in to order the lady at the register did not acknowledge me she had another lady up there who i thought was going to help me and didnt so i looked at the menu for 5-6 mins, still no help. I walked out called in and she hung up on me when i asked the price of the sushi roll. I called back she gave me the price then put me on hold. When i finally got my Americano sushi rolls i ate them and started to feel sick caused my stomach to be upset i had food poisoning for two days! This place has TERRIBLE service. Waited 45 minutes on my 1 hour lunch break for food that was cold and not worth the wait or the price. My party's food all came out within 15 mins but mine took twice as long. By the time it came out I asked for them to box it and that took an additional 15 mins. When I told the manager I no longer wanted the food because of the wait time, she said she didn't know what happened because the kitchen goes by ticket order. I love bento box. It's so casual and chill you can just pull up in your PJ's for some good rice bowls or sushi. The service is pretty good, you order up front and they bring it to you. I only take a star off because I feel it's pricey for the atmosphere. Overall a good place especially if you stay nearby sac state. read more

I would always get the bibimbap but unfortunately it was taken off the menu possibly because it required a lot of prep work. Instead I ordered the Friday lunch special chicken teriyaki and spicy chicken. Despite it being around 130 pm with only one other person in the restaurant, the food took about 15 minutes to come out. Once arrived I was very happy. The presentation was simple and appealing. The flavors were on point. The teriyaki chicken was perfectly cooked. I went to eat at this restaurant with my daughter and the waitress charged my card for somebody else's bill, which was two times the amount of my bill. I asked for the difference in the bills to be credited back to my card and they stated they couldn't locate the transaction. I spoke to the manager who was not helpful, he refused to refund my money claiming they did not charge my card. They charged me $110 for my $60 bill. I let them know it was a fraudulent charge and they did not care, they are still lying about the charge. This company fraudulently charges people's accounts and does nothing to fix it. I contacted this company on three different days trying to get a refund and they're still claiming they are unable to locate my transaction even though my bank has posted the charge. Don't eat here unless you want to pay for other people's food, get lied to and have rude experiences with the Manager Tin who absolutely will not help his customers and thinks it's OK for his employees to overcharge them. It's unreal for a chain like this to respond to their customers this way. read more

E hot the Udon and the Ramen to compare. Both. Delicious and very freshly prepared. The tempura was delicately cooked and seasoned with the lightest non oily crispiest crust. The serving portions are quite large. The broths were full of traditional flavors. The service was wait staff was polite, professional and very accommodating. A little bit shy but warmed up quickly when encouraged. Music is modern but good. The establishment is very clean including restrooms. Wait staff was very attentive and checked back with us to make sure we had everything we needed. I recommend this place highly. I love its stylishly traditional yet modern fusion decor. read more

Came for sushi and left with a headache. It cost me an hour and $46 for no lunch. It's clear why they have three stars, which seems generous. We've been regulars at the 65th and Midtown locations for years, but not after today. I arrived at 2:30 pm and placed my order. By around 3:15 pm, they realized the order hadn't gone through--some sort of system glitch-understandable, but frustrating. I requested my order to go and asked if it could be ready in two minutes for a 4 pm meeting across town. After receiving a vague response, I decided to cancel the order and request a refund. The staff didn't know how to process it. She asked for my contact information because a manager was needed for the refund. After grabbing a pen and a discarded receipt from the counter, the waitress scolded me for writing on it. I had to ask for something proper to write on and take the notebook from her because she was arguing, and I urgently needed to leave. I still haven't received a follow-up and will have to dispute the charge with my bank. The decline in service is unfortunate and deeply disappointing. read more

Saturday, 1/08/2022 - Saw "Bento Box" at the corner of 65th street and Folsom Blvd in a little plaza. There is an Office Depo across from Bento Box. Next to Bento Box was The Sandwhich Spot, Game Stop, SuperCuts and other stores. Decided to go to Bento Box and try them. It didn't look like anyone was eating inside. But there were people eating outside in a patio. Upon arrival.... Pros: 1) Lots of parking 2) place was clean. A few tables had chairs down and around it, but no one was eating inside. So we decided to eat outside too. 3) the young girls behind the counter were very helpful. But very quiet. You can tell this was a family owned restaurant. 4) we order Bento #1, which is the Chicken teriyaki, mixed tempura, 4 rolls and salad. Didn't take long for it to come out. I felt all of our foods were good. Chicken was soft and perfectly cooked, mix tempura was soft and crunchy (batter mixed perfectly), our rolls was very delicious. 5) the to-go box was nice. See photo. They do provide you with napkins, wooden chopsticks, forks, soysauce to go in the bag. 6) I saw they had raw fish too if you want some of those. Cons: 1) I wanted a cup of water to sip on while waiting for my order. Learned they do not provide that. You have to buy water bottle only. Conclusion: I like this place. Very quiet. I'm a regular at this place but will be going to a different location after a poor customer service experience and have noticed a drop in the quality. For a pickup order I was told I could only pickup a DoorDash order by showing them the confirmation with the full number on it. The screen shot my wife sent me didn't have it but I gave them the exact order and her name but they refused. Stupid rule for the sake of stupidity. I tried to reason and share the screen shot from my wife which matched the name on the order and ask what the likelihood of someone knowing all the details of the order with that screenshot but to no avail. Lesson for me: don't expect reason to prevail. Lesson for them: inflexibility and unreasonableness lose you customers, even ones that enjoyed your food. read more
