I had high expectations of this place because all the moms on my Facebook group raved about it; however, my experience with this place was not even remotely close to the hype. I contacted them over a month before my child's birthday, sending them a few pictures of the cake i wanted; they said okay and gave me a quote of 150. Just about a week before the pickup date, I sent them another text to confirm the cake was going to exactly what I asked for - I attached a picture that I shared originally; they confirmed and shared the address/time for pickup. Pickup day: the store smelled like pot as we walked in - I hope I'm not picking up an 'edible' cake. The owner (?) handed me a box in a rush, and I kinda sensed that she didn't want me to stay for any longer. I then opened the box right in front of her to ensure I don't leave this place with someone else cake; it was right there I found out that the cake was not how I wanted it to be; the decorations on top was printed and completely different from the pic I shared; why would I go to a specialty bakery if I can just get a cheap looking cake from HEB with printed deco on the top, paying possibly 3 times of the price? The owner was completely unapologetic, she gave me a 'dare' - "oh if you don't like it you don't need to take it" in a very passive aggressive way. I showed her texts we exchanged and the quote she gave me. She again iterated that 'ohhh you don't need to take the cake if you don't like it; the cake you wanted would cost $400, not $150". Then why didn't she just tell me at the first place? She even confirmed a week before over text when I sent her the picture, so why was she acting surprise? Horrible experience. I couldn't be more impressed with Bento Bakes. This small little shop off of 183N in Austin is one of the best cake places here! I had been looking for something very specific...a cake where they could make a single cake that was half chocolate and half vanilla, a cake that could be shaped into Beaker, the Muppet, AND one that would be done well in just a matter of a few days. Every other place I had tried to call during that very busy week either took forever to get back to me or weren't going to be able to do it for one reason or another. Bento Bakes customer service and creativity was just what I needed. I wanted this cake to surprise my sister who was turning 50 and who also loves Beaker. Bento Bakes came through. You can see in the photo how perfect the cake looked! But what about taste? I am sure you are wondering. The vanilla and chocolate were a bit hit. I tried both and they were moist and flavorful. Everyone at my sister's party loved the cake and design. They will charge you half up front and the other half when you pick up your cake. It wasn't cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for. Jen Bento created a beautiful and delicious 3-tier cake for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We had different flavors for each tier, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. She wrapped it in with a rich and delicious buttercream frosting. She delivered the cake to Balcones Country Club and added the final live flowers cascading down the cake. I wish I would've had the opportunity to give a great review. However, Bento Bakes failed to deliver. Cake Rocks referred this baker to me so I ordered a cake. I reached out via phone, email, text and chat but did not get a response. When I finally did, they told me that they did not put in my order because I never gave them a delivery address (which I did a few days before the event). Sadly, our cake order was never taken seriously. This baker obviously did not want the business or was too busy to care. If you use this baker, make sure to confirm, re-confirm your order. read more
