Captain Quackenbush's Coffeehouse ~ Austin Texas
    Elvira A.

This is my favorite local south Austin bakery. When there is a special occasion I can always count on them having some made from scratch cakes! Counter service is always great, however yesterday Emily went above and beyond to be helpful! That will always be a memorable interaction. I will continue to frequent this groovy coffeehouse! Love everything about it, and everyone that works there.

I have not eaten inside of CQC but I have picked up some of the most amazing baked goods here! We tried the cinnamon rolls (which are delicious) and different cupcakes. Needless to say I fell in love and have been back since. It is a little pricy but for freshness it's worth it. The guys there behind the counter were super helpful and just as sweet. I plan on going back to try the zucchini bread soon!

This is the old Strange Brew and I know it's been a couple years since Captain Quak's opened up but it's my first time since it switched over. Plenty of seating and a full bar inside the stage part. When you enter it's the coffee shop and a nice bakery for a nibble of sweets. A nice bonus is that after 8PM they have a buy one pastry and get one free. That was a nice surprise. A big parking lot with lots of options to park. Several businesses in the strip but none that would have a lot of traffic. It's very nicely put together and I'll be coming back.

Came in on a Saturday morning and was surprised to see it so empty. I've heard of great things so I finally decided to try it. I got their winter special drink Miso Caramel Latte and it was really good! The miso did catch me off guard at first but the more I drank I really enjoyed how the caramel compliments the miso in the latte. Overall very chill vibe lots of people in and out, really enjoyed my time today!

Stopped in for a quick lunch break and to grab a coffee to wake me up! Service is super friendly. Plenty of tables to eat and do work. The cookie I had was great and I def want to try some of their other delicious looking pastries. I was kind of underwhelmed by the coffee. I think there was a bit too much milk for me but it was still decent. Cool spot if you want to get some work done and def want to try more pastries!

We went to Quacks Soundstage inside Quacks for Dinner with the Divas drag show. They have a full bar inside. This place does not have a full menu or dinner which was disappointing. The serve bakery items, coffee drinks and make a very good espresso martini!

This was my first time at Captain Quack's. I met a friend here because they were hosting Starling Karaoke for the first time. The space was perfect for karaoke or an intimate band performance. The bartender was friendly, and her cocktails were great. There is a decent variety of seating- comfy booths, and high top tables. I plan to come back again.

Captain Quack's is a south Austin staple. They have great coffee, cute and delicious pastries, and one of the best chais in the area. Bonus is they always have fun events going on. I've been to their silent reading nights which are always a cozy blast, and I like to do their Monday night general knowledge trivia hosted by Get It Games! Such a great place to come hang out or do some work. Only downside is there are limited seats in the cafe area, so if there's an event happening you might want to get there early!

My first time here and I loved how homey it was. I came for an art event hosted by someone and we were in the room where it looks like they have a stage area. The servers were friendly and fast. I was almost overwhelmed with the baked foods selection. If I could I would have ordered a bite from each one. The vibe is laid back and chill. Good spot to come study, work, read, and Chat with a friend.

Excellent music, cookies, service, parking, etc. I love the Under the Rock series and the half price after eight o'clock bakery items.

I'll definitely return here. Their desserts look incredibly delicious, especially the "Eat My Feelings" one, which called to me. I'll have to come back just to try that one out. The cheese danishes we purchased were perfection. I had mine the next day, reheated it, and it was still delicious. The cream in the middle was just right--neither too dry nor too moist--and the Danish part was wonderfully flaky. Not to mention it was also massive. They also host events there, like the lively trivia night we saw during our visit. This place looks fantastic, and I'll be back to try more items from the menu. I'll be sure to update my review afterwards.

I love the green soft chairs, the tables, and the chef statue greeting you as you pull in front of the building. He's right there in the window. The bistro honestly takes your breath away. I love it! So in the last two weeks, I've been back exactly four times. My first introduction was the Croissant Scramble with chicken and veggies inside, with the Arnold Palmer. My friend got the Croissant Scramble with brisket. The presentation of the croissants when brought to the table blew me away. It was wrapped up in the cutest paper with the ends twisted. The topic of conversation was how good the croissants were. Before we left, we ordered some delicious cookies. The chocolate chips were yummy. So I went the following day and grabbed some pastries! One in particular was the Pecan Bar. The following week, another friend and I stopped in for the Chicken Pesto Omelet. I like that the fire-roasted bell peppers and onions are cooked, if that's the right word. But l have to tell you, the Mexican Hot Chocolate drink brings on the flavor, as does the ice-cold Mocha. Of course, we got the Pecan Bar for dessert. So yes, I went back yesterday for the Almond Croissant. I know, I know!

When I arrived, I was told the cake wasn't ready and was asked if I could come back the next morning--which obviously didn't work given the timing of the event. As a substitute, they offered me a pre-made cake from their display case and assured me it was chocolate like I originally ordered, just with a chocolate mousse filling. They refunded me $15 to account for the difference, and I felt pressured to accept since I needed something for the dinner that night. Unfortunately, the situation got worse from there. When we cut into the cake, it turned out to be confetti--not chocolate. Then, when we tried to eat it, it was clearly stale, dry, and inedible. No one touched it after the first bites. It completely missed the mark for what was supposed to be a special moment. What's especially frustrating is that I ordered from them last year for the same occasion, and everything went perfectly--that's why I trusted them again. This time, however, it was a complete letdown from start to finish. When I called the next day to request a refund, I asked to speak with a manager but was told that wasn't possible. Instead, I was told I would only be offered a partial refund because I accepted the replacement cake. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and quality here was really disappointing--especially for something as important as a birthday celebration.

Our server was super friendly and helpful. She recommended a couple of her favorite smoothies. I ordered the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict: poached eggs, jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, avocado, tomato & corn salsa (4/5). I liked and enjoyed my breakfast, which was fresh and light. Berry Basil Smoothie: blueberry, strawberry, basil, banana, agave, pomegranate, coconut water, lime juice (4/5). This was very delicious. My coworkers order the Everything Sandwich: everything cream cheese, peppered bacon, baby kale, roasted roma tomatoes (4/5). Flavorful, with a light freshness of all the ingredients. Both really liked the breakfast potatoes, which had a crisp exterior crunch yet soft and creamy inside. Come check them out. Support your local business.

Definitely one of those places that keeps you thinking about the cookie long after you leave. Everything else in the bakery also looks amazing, but the cookies are absolutely the star of the show. One important thing to note for first-time visitors: be very careful with parking. The lot next door apparently boots cars almost immediately if they see you park there and walk toward the bakery. It's not the bakery's fault, but it's definitely something customers should be aware of before visiting. Parking headache aside, this place is 100% worth the trip.

There's also benches/stools outside so you can enjoy your treats while they're fresh.
