First the good Service was excellent and friendly We had to wait for a table but thats okay busy means good I had the salmon Benny it was very good the sauce was excellent the salmon I believe was warm smoked so it was a touch salty but was very flavourful My wife had a the bagel and lox it was cold smoked and very good The coffee was good Food came out fast The bad I have never had to pay for water before. At least not in Canada and this kind of put me off. There was no option for tap water... I understand wanting to make money but Calgary has some of the best water in the world hardly a place I need a can of it for 75 cents ( price wasn't the issue) So likely for that reason alone I would not go back. You know it's little things that turn you away and to me I neither needed to add another can to recycle or pay for a glass of water So I rate this Service 5 star Food 4 star Having to pay for water in a can negative -3 star Sorry but to me that was a big turn off... read more

The on yelp queue system clearly doesn't work..I went on 11:20-wait stated was 20min , arrived waited untill yelp said checked in 11;53 I did, was told now an additional 20min, waited time now 12:19 was told would be text ,nothing ,went in inquired was told another 20min, totally unacceptable It's to bad because food and table service is good . Great food for a great price, with a retro vibe atmosphere. Fantastic thick cut bacon!

Owner has switched to noisy plastic plates and no longer gives people water instead sells the water in cans. Not sure what is next but I'm guessing plastic cutlery. Potatoes are no longer crunchy but the eggs benedict is still consistent. I'm hoping the owner goes back to restaurant level plates and providing water in cups along with the coffee. read more

Once again another 5 Star experience. The food was amazing my wife tried the Stroga-knockoff this dish is to die for. The portion was more than she could eat so a take out box was required. All the staff we interacted with were happy and friendly. We could see the owner working just as hard as the staff. This is a great diner experience take the time to check them out. read more

Firstly, they charge for cans of water. No tap water options provided. Secondly, the manager was dismissive of my concerns, and didn't even give me the respect of eye contact when I was communicating with him. Thirdly, I've had the great displeasure of reading the managers responses to negative feedback. His responses are defensive, and aggressive. He's not trying to work WITH his customers or attempting to be understanding. Most of the concerns are very similar in nature as well. Decent food, but not worth the treatment from staff (especially the owner), and cash grabs. Also sadly not child friendly. read more

They charge for water. When asked they lied and said it was "AHS Regulations, they didn't have enough sinks.". When I asked they back tracked and basically said they wanted the extra money. Love coming here, but won't be back. Hope that $0.75 a can of water was worth it!! read more

The no ice water thing is kind of weird where you have to purchase a bottle but the food is great and so is the service!

Food was unreal, I would highly recommend going here if you like eggs benny. So many options to choose from! My boyfriend wanted the chicken and waffle benny which he has had before and loves it but they were all out of chicken. There is a very long wait especially on Sundays so I recommend calling ahead or using the waitlist option in the Yelp app itself! You don't get free water which I found slightly odd. They bring you your own pot of coffee for refills which was nice. I guess since it's so busy all the time they cut down on water refills by only offering bottled water but I still think it was a little silly that I couldn't get a cup of water. read more

We arrived on 24/08, Sunday morning and put our names on the waitlist. The girl at the front desk told us we would need to wait about 40 minutes, but in the end, we waited an hour and 10 minutes. For the last 20 minutes, we were sitting right at the entrance, and she clearly saw us. There was even a free table for two, but no one seated us there. I honestly don't understand the situation -- they say one thing, but in reality it turns out completely different. The atmosphere of the place is very retro, and the service was very good, as I was greeted once I walked in by the young ladies of Benny's. I ordered a coffee and the Latke Eggs Benedict from Benny's Breakfast. The eggs benedict was good, although the egg was slightly under cooked, nothing worse than when egg whites are a bit runny. Took the family for breakfast. Everyone was disappointed. Being charged for water places Benny's into a different category. No other breakfast place we visit does this; Diner Deluxe or Phil's. My adult kids were particularly offended. Our server was attentive and positive. The gluten-free perogies were okay. The latkes I ordered were abysmal; oily, lukewarm and apparently made with frozen, shredded potato. Not a good experience. Tea cup had chip, was given a new cup and had to pour from chipped cup to new one. Asked for camomile tea and was given a herbal tea that had some camomile in it but not camomile tea. When we asked for something else, didn't like herbal mix, we were told Manager said we had to pay for both cups we passed on 2nd bag. $7.00 for tea a bit much. Monday morning Manager made it a point to bring box out to dining room and point out there was camomile in the herbal mix. WOW! Then asked for a glass of water and were told there was a cost?? Dropped in on a Friday for brunch. Great retro decor with a diner vibe. Service was great. You get a pot of coffee for the table to share and they have a huge selection of Benny's to choose from on their menu. Hubby ordered an Elvis Presley platter and I had the wagyu beef bowl. Both came out fresh and hot with homemade hollandaise! No goopy packet pre-mix here! Hubby enjoyed the valbella sausage and bacon and my eggs were perfect! Incredibly disappointing. Bennys is in Calgary and not Edmonton. Wagyu beef brisket Benny with Swiss cheese on marble rye... piled high, perfectly seasoned hollandaise, side of perfectly cooked red skinned potato cubes. For $19. What are they thinking? How do they make money? I must assume that Benny is an excellent restauranteur and a lousy businessman. Also I am bitter that I cannot come here more often as I live in Edmonton.
