Had to try this place while in Canada from the U.S. It was billed as serving up traditional Canadian breakfast.... which near as I could tell hardly differs from a standard American breakfast. Visiting from out of town and happened upon this tiny retro diner, and then we kept coming every day we were in Calgary! We love the personable, friendly, and easygoing staff, the nostalgic mug collection, and the amazing breakfast. The best thing for me is the option to halve any of the items on the menu! I could finally get my dream order of French toast without feeling pressured to eat four whole pieces!! This little hole in the wall spot was suggested to us by a friend. It's a super small place inside but looks very retro and hipster. They even have a really cute pickup window to grab your food and shakes to go. We came for breakfast here and it was pretty yummy. The coffee was decent, the milkshakes were super yummy, the food was good too. We ordered the huevos rancheros which was basically a flour tortilla with 2 over easy eggs on top, a bit of pico de gallo, 1/2 an avocado, delicious toasted bread, and house made hashbrowns. It's not your typical huevos rancheros and I added some hot sauce to spice it up but it was good. I didn't eat the tortilla because it really didn't add any flavour to the eggs so I just left that part. The hashbrowns were delicious tho and the bread was tasty too. The other members of my party ordered the other dishes and I did try a bit of the Pacific Omelete which was the one with smoked salmon and wow was it ever delicious! I would probably order that with a side of hollandaise sauce next time. The hollandaise was really yummy as well and one of the best I've tasted. We opted to eat at the park across the street because the restaurant is super tiny and we had a lot of people. It was a really wonderful start to our day. The service is great there too!! Galaxie Diner has been around for ages. It is loved by the neighboring locals. My sister recommended this place and she said it is one of the best brunch places in town. It is not fancy but it has the old style diner feel. They maintained the way it looked when it first opened its door. I came here with a friend who came from Vancouver to visit. I got the salmon omelette with white bread and hashbrown. I also got the strawberry milkshake to go along with it. Wow the salmoon omelette is super delicious. It is fully loaded with a generous amount of smoked salmon spilling out on the side. Toast and hashbrown are bottomless. Their toast and hashbrown are super delicious. Their portion to begin with is already super big, I can't go for more hashbrown. The strawberry milkshake is super delicious. They gave me a generous portion. Everything here are super fresh. The place is always super busy and usually requires waiting for table. Also the place is quite small too. We came super early at 10 am and we still had to wait about 20 mins. I've been meaning to try this place for a long time and I finally got to go. It was quite busy but it makes sense given how good it was! I was planning on trying their omelettes (which I've heard are amazing) but I couldn't resist ordering the French Toast after reading the description! This review is based on my entire experience- if it was based solely on the food alone it would be given a 5 star review because when I went here the first time I had the eggs benedict on a toasted croissant then when I cam here the second time I had the pacific omelette which was absolutely amazing! It was 3 eggs with smoked salmon, spinach and cream cheese. There was so much salmon in here it was absolutely delicious and it came with a side of hash browns and toast. It lost some stars because it is a very small diner with very limited seating and it is also a very popular establishment so having very few tables means it is a long wait. The decor in the restaurant adds well to the theme. Casual breakfast/brunch restaurant. Parking was easy and cheap to find. Literally parked across the street and walked down to the place in 2 minutes. It's a retro styled diner. We came about 11:30 in the morning and it wasn't very busy. We were greeted and seated ASAP as soon as we got in. Their menu is amazing! You get unlimited coffee and tea, and also unlimited hashbrowns and toast. I ordered a large Omelette of Choice, and choose the cheese, ham, Montreal smoked meat (which came from the shop next door), and sautéed mushrooms as my filing. They're very generous with their portions and their omelette of choice comes with plenty of other toppings. Usually, I stay a bit peckish after a meal but I had trouble finishing my eggs, along with my sides, so I was very full! Their malted milkshake is to die for! Went at 9am on a Saturday and JUST beat the rush so we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes. The staff are extremely friendly and the place itself makes you feel like you're back in the 1950's. We got the montreal smoked meat bennies and French toast w/bacon. Galaxie Diner is the best place to have brunch Downtown Calgary. It's a small venue but worth the wait. I got the French Toast and Malted Milkshake. The French toast was with cinammon and maple syrup. The toast itself was half fluffy and half filled. All of it was a really good combination. The grilled banana on top made it even tastier/sweeter in a good way cuz it was fruit sweet. I also got the bottomless hash brown on the side. It's more like diced potatoes than the type of hash brown you'd get at McDonald's or A&W. So I don't drink milkshakes often, not that there's anything wrong with them, other than they're full of sugar. I ordered this time because I heard a lot of good things about them. It was homemade, thick and creamy, sweet and really delicious. If I go to Calgary again, I'll try the chocolate milkshake next time. The only thing is space. It's too small and crowded. This place hands down has the best Breakfast in the country ok maybe i'm exaggerating but it's pretty damn close. I've seen small cooking area's but a kitchen this small pumping out great food all day long. Way to go. The staff Rocks the place is small, old school the way it used to be. The way it should be. Hands down my favourite breakfast joint in Calgary. Very small yet rustic mom and pop joint that serves classic breakfast with a twist. Montreal smoked meat hash plate is a very generous plate. The meat is super tender and is all perfectly held together with a good cheddar cheese. Add to it some garlic Tabasco and you are golden! The Cody scramble is a wonderful balance between savoury, freshness and quality. As simple as the dish is, the texture and taste are so complex. Sunday Brunch - yippee my favourite thing on weekends! This is a small place with only 6 booths and a counter. It's a classic diner with usual favourites such as eggs benny, omelettes, French toast etc. My gf had the classic with potatoes, sausage, bacon, toast. I tried the omelette with bacon, beef sausage, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes served with toast and potatoes. You can choose 2 or 3 eggs and either rye, white or sourdough toast. The 2 egg omelette was good for me and they offered to top up my potatoes for free which was fantastic! I'd like to try the French toast, burger and monte cristo next time. Service was great- attentive but not intrusive and my coffee was never less than half full. The place is easy to get to and has street parking using park plus to pay. Really solid meal. Absolutely horrible service (if you can call it that) today. Decided to walk over to Galaxie for brunch, and when we got there, there was a group of 4 people waiting, indicating to me they were on a wait list. I stepped inside and waited a couple minutes to be acknowledged, which is fine. They were busy. Here's where the review goes down hill. Someone comes up and asks "how many people?" I tell them. They look at a pad of paper with names on it, and then back at me and say "we only have stools at the counter. I check with the other person with me. We both decide we would rather have a table so I go in and tell the person who was helping me. Then who I assume was the manager comes over and gets all "oh well you know we close at three, right??" I was aware of the time, (1:45, for reference) and asked approximately how long it would be. I got "well we aren't taking names. I suppose if people finish sooner, we might be able to seat you. But we close at three!" At that point, I was hangry(er) and just wanted food. But apparently "they close at 3!" Hard pass. read more

I love this place. I haven't been here in probably 7 or 8 years since moving to Edmonton and haven't had a chance to come back until this Christmas break. SO happy I did. It is just as I remembered it. Tiny, busy, and delicious. There is a long wait for tables at any time, seriously. So be prepared for that. I think my friend and I waited about 25 minutes for a table. So it wasn't too bad. Thankfully it wasn't cold out at all so it didn't really matter and we enjoyed the brisk air outside. Both my friend and I had eggs benny with hashbrowns and coffee. The coffee is exactly as it should be. That diner coffee that you only get somehow at diners. Load it up with cream or drink it black, its just what you need in the morning. The eggs benny is delicious as always. Food comes out very fast, but you never feel rushed to leave. It's just a great atmosphere and service. This is definitely a must try in Calgary. Lunch for breakfast? Don't mind if I do! I had just flipped over the menu at Galaxie and noticed that it said lunch was available all day long. I've been on a breakfast kick as of late, so a cheeseburger at 10 am on a Friday sounded good to me! Besides a nice soft bun, what stood out about my meal were the three thick slices of tomato on my burger (instead of just one) and the hash browns in place of fries. I also split a small burgundy cherry milkshake with my breakfast mate. Burgundy cherry makes me think these guys use Foothills ice cream in the making of their awesome sauce shakes. They're thick and plentiful... So unless you've got the capacity to pack away a lot of food, I wouldn't recommend a full one to yourself with the rest of your meal. Galaxie is tiny. The most you could probably fit around the bigger booth in the back is about 6. There's not exactly a lot of room to wait at the front either. But it's an ideal greasy spoon, the staff are awesome and it all around generally kicks butt! read more

We've been to just about all the breakfast, brunch and lunch 'diners' in the city, and give Galaxie the best review of them all! Why? An old style diner with the original concept 50s and 60s look and vibe. Old inoperable jukeboxes on the wall of some tables harken back to the bakeries and drugstores of that era. And yet the music played overhead is both suitably current and retro. Many old artifacts doll up this pretty standard diner that houses 7 'bar' stools and 7 red-covered booths (2 large). As it was back then, the short-order cook's work area is on open display as he or she hustles cooked meat, hashbrowns, eggs of any style, and garnish off the large grill onto large plates filled with solid good-tasting food. Ask for whatever pleases you, like onions in the hash browns, or extra brown toast, and it's yours. The service crew are upbeat and efficient... For my many times there, have had breaky, but one time we ordered their traditional breakfast ($9 or $13.50 without or with meat) and the huge Montreal-smoked meat hash that with two basted eggs on top of the pile and your choice of toast (white, wholewheat, rye, sourdough) rounds out the huge order ($17). Oh yes, bottomless regular hashbrowns and endless toast, if you have any more room. And an all-day lunch specializing in burgers, sands and fries parallels the all-day breakies. I do most of my coffee at home or at Caffe Beano, and so don't much bother with coffee at breaky venues. But up to you... In the middle of the morning pushing towards noon, there's usually a steady stream of customers in and out. In such a friendly and caring ambiance, even the cook will smilingly deliver your meals to your table. The affable owner is aware that he's got something going both at the next door deli and here, and says he will keep prices, quality and quantity the same as long as it's viable. Hard to beat. And... After your meal each customer receives a 'Dubble Bubble' stick of gum in the same pink waxy paper as 60+ years ago. Although a super-retro touch, every ingredient is horrid sugar-based blek. Cannot say more about Galaxie. In my opinion it's tops in the city, and is only approximated by Purple Perk. And as it's next door to it's sister and also excellent Myhre's Deli with their super Montreal smoked-meat sands (11am - 4pm), can't go wrong with either. A recommendation? Although all items seem good, try the Huevos Ranchero breaky if avocado and other veggies are important to you? And for lunch, it looks like the Galaxie burger might be good... An easy 4.5 stars, and given the much less attractive Red's, OEB and Dairy Lane who with expansion are losing the thread from diner vibe to commercial mediocrity, make time for Galaxy?
