    Cream of broccoli soup special.

If there's one thing I love, it's a diner that has earned every 4 and 5-star review as much as it has earned every 1 and 2-star review. That place, my friends, is Deerhead Cafe. I loved it. Will you? Well, read on.. Not knowing much about it, this place had been calling my name for quite some time. I love dives and I was still I was wondering "Is that place real? Naah, couldn't be.. Maybe?? No.. probably just a drug front... I shouldn't go in there." But, thank's to the wonderful help 'o Yelp we investigated, went inside, and I'm SO glad we did. This place is a hipster breakfast wonderland! I couldn't stop smiling and holding back a giggle the whole time I was there. 70's era wood panel walls with matching 70's vinyl booths, with what seemed to be original vinyl. Why reupholster when duct tape will do just fine?? And what would it be without old taxidermy deer heads to tie the room together. All 100% original vintage without even a hint of irony. Brilliant. I got the Denver Special - Denver sandwich, wavy McCain style fries, and cream of brocolli soup for $6.75. YES please. It was all great. Classic, straightforward greasy-spoon diner. It's a Cafe, so... what kind of coffee do they serve here? The coffee kind! It doesn't matter. What matters is the kind staff are always right there to refill your cup. I recommend you go here for breakfast. I also recommend that you get a little out of control the night before. It just wouldn't be right to experience the Deer Head Cafe without a pounding head.

Come and take a step back in time at this cute little diner. Nothing fancy going on here even the front door was a little rickety, but the deer heads are still perky. I enjoyed a simple bacon and eggs for breakfast and I know it's a good spot good old-fashioned had made hamburger. Good eats, cheep and cheerful, Cash only

Classic greasy spoon...and by classic I mean that NOTHING has changed here since circa 1970. The walls are wood paneled, and adorned by deer heads. The kind of place you go if you're a bit down on your luck, getting your auto-glass replaced down the street, or wear ironic t-shirts to show how cool you are. The food is pretty run of the mill diner fare... plate-sized pancakes from a mix, burger steaks, and hot turkey sandwiches...all at a decent price. The lady who works the front of the house by herself is quite friendly, and is efficient considering how busy this place can get.

Cute vintage booths and so much wood panelling!

Oh god this place is a perfect shady diner. Untouched by time and cheap as hell. Greasy spoon, that good diner coffee that you can tell has been brewed in an old pot infused with coffee taste! Ugh. Can't be beat. ***CASH ONLY

absolutely perfect. grilled cheese, crinkle fries, diet coke in a can, the morning newspaper, a slight hangover, cozy booths, 2 taxidermied deer heads staring at me...how could it NOT be absolutely perfect? service was good, food came out quick, prices were right. customers ranged from the oldest man in the world, to a 20-something girl in her fuzzy pajamas with dreadlocks down to her butt, to a burly trucker sitting alone reading a romance novel. cannot wait to go back.

Proof - same menus for the last 30 years.

The food experience that is Calgary continues. My brother loves this place so we decided to go here…read moresince it was close by. He says that this might be the best sandwich place in the city. We came to the store to order. and you know the service is top notch. The owner is very friendly and there is a warm ambiance about the place. On to the food, My brother order a chicken parm subs and say his sub was excellent as always. I ended up getting two subs. One was the meatball sub which was exceptional. The meatballs were well seasoned and were larger than my mom made when she was alive. the buns were toasted to perfection crunchy but not burnt. They had just enough sauce and cheese to compliment the sub but not overpower it . i also got a turkey pesto sub which had a lot of meat and cheese. This was very good and if i come back to Calgary i will definitely come back.

Now this is how you make a sandwich! There's such a thrill in finding incredible local eats. I'm…read morenot usually a big sandwich person, but a good foodie friend of mine said they heard the hype about Scozzafava's so I went along. No regrets. If you didn't know about this spot, you might easily pass by without a second glance. Scozzafava's serves up authentic, classic Italian sandwiches that just slap. They use a soft sesame seed bun, which probably is the most unique part of the sandwich. For their marinara sandwiches, I wish they used a thicker bun to better absorb all the sauce. The sesame bun didn't keep its integrity, sadly. The meatball marinara was glorious! Slightly spicy, super moist meatballs, slightly sweet marinara, and perfectly paired with bitterness of the rapini. Don't forget the cheese pull! We also grabbed the classic Italian deli, which was scrumptious and very filling. You can't go wrong with either option, in my opinion.

No surprise with the GST, very direct and clear on price ... nice! It was a little confusing after my order where my sub was to be made. To the left of the register is the kitchen area where they make the sandwiches and deep fried stuff. To the right of the register is the designated sub creation area. It took a few minutes to understand their process. The order system was also kind of weird. Basically you wait to the side Starbucks style for your order and the dish gets called out. I found it a little strange that everyone waiting will know what I ordered. Despite the chaos of the process, they manage to do a lot of turnover during the lunch rush. One should note that most of the food here is pre-maid and/or frozen food fry and serve. However they also sell soups, salads and made-on-the-spot sandwiches. It isn't the most gourmet place for food. But is it quick and easy? You bet! Open 6 am to 4 pm M-F. 17/30 Yelp 30 Day Challenge

This place is withing the confines of the plus 15 system, just at the bottom of the Calgary Tower. I had seen people with what I thought was Vietnamese food and wondered where they got it from. Here's the place. I recently tried the lemongrass chicken which was decent but not lemony enough for me. The crispy roll it came with wasn't one of the best I've had but ok none the less. The shrimp salad rolls were pretty good, so was the peanut dipping sauce although it could be more peanutty. One morning my stomach was growling so my colleague and I ventured over to World Delicatessen for some breakfast. I had an english muffin with egg, ham and cheese. I have to say it was way too salty. Not sure if I'll try breaky here again but certainly will have the Vietnamese again. They also have Viet subs which looked pretty good. Maybe that'll be next on my list.

In the past I've had the falafel plate, the chicken shawarma wrap and the falafel wrap and all were just ok. They have pickled turnips here which is great but bc they are the mass produced ones so they are extremely salty. Prices are on par with what other Lebanese quick eats go but they offer sm, med and lg sizes which is great if you are not a big eater, having said that I found the workers there sloppily wrap the sandwiches so you will get one side full of veg and another of meat so the bite ratio is off. On the plus side, they are super quick, and you will have your order done in under 5 minutes even with a line up. There were 2 Lebanese guys working when we went in, one I assume was the owner as he was directing the non-Lebanese staff, everyone else seemed to enjoy being there so that was nice to see. The portions were pretty generous which is great for the big eater and they offer a lot of deli and sides which was interesting: salads, samosas, pilafs, pastries and some sweet offerings. They also had a pre-made cooler of items that I assume are made to cook at home, didn't see any prices on them so I cannot comment on value but if you are a fan of the baked goods in the deli section, they were available to take home to cook. Price points are pretty decent and good sized portions and the dining/service area was clean so that warrants a 3.5 star rating...maybe we went in on an off day but the food was just ok and please clean the bathroom, there was urine on the toilet seat.

They offer two fresh soups every day which are clearly not canned and made from scratch. They also offer a different special every day of the week that can be supplemented with a salad or a small soup. These specials range from clubhouse sandwiches, to spring roll on vermicelli, to mac n' cheese (scratch made). One of my go-to places for lunches and as a soup connoisseur they are able to beat out most places by providing homemade soups instead of the typical generic Campbell's stuff you find in most delis. One thing I would like is for them to switch up and try their hand at making other soups because I have been here so many times the soups are getting slightly old (but still tastier and better value than Sunterra) TLDR: Soups good, specials can be good, sandwiches fresh, salad available.
