Calamari $15, Clams Casino $1.50 ea
    Susan C.

We were looking for light eats and drinks. We were with my cousin who knew the area - walked into Benjamin's around 4:30. We didn't have a reservation but they had a four top that was perfect for our party of 3. Lauren was quick to bring us water and then take our drink order. Lots of Newport vibes here with nautical themes, Fenway Park signs, lots of Christmas decor. Lots of music, spots on the tv. We loved the food! The calamari app $15 had perfectly fried rings and no tentacles. Yummy marinara served with the calamari. The oysters were shucked well - no shell fragments and all the oysters were freed from the shell. Clams casino are warm and delicious with toasted breadcrumbs. $1.50 each for both oysters and casino. Lauren kept our group happy!

Avoid this place and try another spot. I was actually going to the place next store but stopped here due to their menu and raw bar. Staff is ok.... We were sat fast and then forgotten about. Two other tables came in after us and ordered before us. I finally got my oysters.... They were ok. The food was finally ordered about 45 minutes later. I went with the 1 lb lobster with a side of clam chowder. Clam chowder was barely warm and probably the worst I have ever had. Now, let's get to the real reason for the 1 star. You served me a bad lobster it smelled of ammonia when it arrived and I knew it was bad but I did not want to make a scene. I regret that. I paid and we left. Avoid the hell out of a place were they do not care enough to do the right thing and serve you bad seafood.

    Yummy!!!!

Service was outstanding!! Our waitress was so attentive and kind. We would come back for her. The stuffed sole was amazing. My lobster roll was a little overcooked but definitely worth eating. The fries and coleslaw were delicious. A must, if you in Newport.

Best raw seafood spot ever. I eat a lot of raw seafood. Their Oysters and Clams are the best half shells you will ever eat!!!

Haven't been to Benjamin's in 2 years, and it's still the same. The bartender, Andrew, was great. We came on a raw bar Tuesday night, and it wasn't busy. We enjoyed the oyster Rockefeller, Benjamin's linguine, and ribeye steak. Coming back soon.

Love their happy hour/lunch specials! Looking for a place to sit and relax and eat fresh oysters and clams? This is your place!! We got a big plate of oysters and clams and very large shrimp! Also got some Rockefeller cooked oysters and a garlic bread to balance things out. We had a good time with all the food. Raw items were super fresh, the shrimp were nice and big, and the cooked items had good flavor. Yes they had a full menu of other items, but we didn't really look at that. There is a nice bar with good drinks and beers. Our waiter was good too - helpful and funny. It's a great place to stop midday for a fun, fresh lunch!

3.5/5 Great spot for oyster happy hour with strong drinks (the margarita packs a punch, and the Newport Sunset is a nice balance). Service was excellent and really made the visit. Food was more hit-or-miss: the fried shrimp were good and tasted super fresh, but the seafood pot pie had overcooked shrimp with the tails still on, which made it tricky to eat. Didn't love the little neck clams. Limited street parking, but the ocean view and the quirky Grand Marnier Club wall of bottles give the place a fun, local charm.

My wife and I were in Newport for a mini vacation. We had been here one time in the past and thought it was good. So we decided to return . Bad idea. We started with the island punch, which was actually very good. That's where the highlights end. We then moved onto the lobster bisque. This can best be described as tomato soup with no lobster flavor. To start, the color was a dark murky brown. Unlike any lobster bisque I have ever seen. If I was blindfolded and asked to name what I was eating, lobster bisque would not be my guess. On to the entrees. My wife had the Stuffed Sole. It was supposed to have a cream Sherry sauce stuffed with lobster , scallops and shrimp. None of these items were evident in the dish. In fact, the sherry sauce turned out to be nothing more than retreaded lobster bisque. I had the shrimp scampi with linguine. This dish is quite puzzling. The best way I can describe this is shrimp cocktail over linguine and a bowl of flavorless soup covered with mozzarella cheese. You heard right ,mozzarella cheese. In what world does mozzarella cheese go on shrimp scampi? This establishment clearly does not have a chef. There is no cooking acumen whatsoever contained in the slop they are serving. My wife ate 2 packages of oyster crackers and considered that the highlight of the meal. On a positive note, our sever Connor was Excellent. He was very apologetic and arranged for my dinner as well as 1 Bisque to be deducted from the Check since they were barely touched. Unfortunately we will be crossing Benjamin's off our list. I suggest you do the same.

    Medium Prime Rib

I'm not quite sure where to start, so I'll begin with the positive: our waitress, Olivia, was the absolute best part of the experience. She did everything she could to make things right, and it was clear she genuinely cared. Unfortunately, when the kitchen doesn't get it right or care, there's only so much a server can do -- and that's ultimately what this experience came down to. Olivia even comped our salad without us complaining because she knew our meals weren't right. She handled everything professionally and did her best throughout the night. My husband and I both ordered prime rib cooked medium -- his was the King Cut and mine was the First Mate cut. When the meals arrived, my husband's was barely medium, but mine was completely overcooked with no pink at all. Olivia immediately took it back and brought another piece, but that one was also overcooked. She sent it back again, and the third attempt came out so rare I couldn't eat it. By that point, my husband had nearly finished his meal while I was essentially eating French fries for dinner. At a certain point, how many times can you send back a piece of meat -- especially at a restaurant known for its prime rib? So my husband ate some of mine and I ate some of his so at least I had more than salad and French fries. We had really been looking forward to this dinner. Newport has so many great restaurants, and we chose Benjamin's based on past experiences. Passing up other places for this meal ended up feeling like a mistake, and the entire experience was incredibly disappointing. The only bright spot of the night was Olivia. She was attentive, apologetic, and clearly trying her hardest to fix a situation that was out of her control. So 10 stars for Olivia. 1 for the chef.

Great local atmosphere. Small cozy bar downstairs and a nice restaurant upstairs. I had their oysters even though I'm not an oyster fan and it's the first time I wanted more. Fresh and flavorful without the sea salty taste. The clams casino, topneck, rock-a-fella, and shrimp were great too. Half price raw bar Tuesdays are a bonus. The service was great too.

Great visit. Food was cooked to perfection. You need to get the French fries. Plenty of room in the front too dinning room service was a little slow

    Hot Lobster Roll
    Amanda W.

We popped in for lunch and honestly? Great decision on our part. We started with the clam chowder -- very good, cozy, and exactly what chowder dreams are made of. Then came the hot lobster roll, which was chef's kiss: delicious, warm, and perfectly balanced without drowning in butter (love butter, but I prefer to eat it, not swim in it). We also ordered shrimp and oysters that were so fresh I'm convinced they filled out timecards that morning. The staff was lovely, super helpful, and wonderfully attentive -- the kind of people who make you feel like you've been coming here for years. Overall, highly recommend. We'll be going back very soon... probably sooner than we should admit.

Everyone goes to Benjamin's. You will see it packed with happy customers. Great seafood in a comfortable vibe. The Tuesday raw bar special $1.50 oysters is very popular. I have eaten pretty much everything on the menu. It's all great! I love their fish and chips and prime rib dinner. I brought a large group for dinner. Our server was outstanding. Avery was very friendly and helpful when we were deciding what to order. She made us feel that we were part of the Benjamin's family. It's a great place and food is awesome. The whole staff here make this place special.

Every time we come here the service is excellent and the food is amazing. This is what we come for right? Outstanding food and service! This year was no different than the other years and I love how the menu continues to evolve and change and everything that comes to life from the menu to the table is well thought out and bursting with harmonious blends of flavor. The presentation is gorgeous too! Plating is also important and they nail it! Okay let's gooooo! Come join our dining experience! We tried a bit of everything! We loved every bit of it. I'll mention my faves but that doesn't take away how hard it was to choose a fave! Everything was DELICIOUS ! Raw bar: Jamestown oysters . We had 10. We can't get enough east coast oysters. We live in the west side and I cannot say enough how much better oysters are on east coast! Slurp ! Mmm! Snacks: 1. Shartner's Farm Carrots: pea green pesto, pine nut, n'duja . If you're a meat, potato and pasta person and try to avoid your veggies, don't do that here. GET IT! It's such a great melody of textures and flavors that pair well. It doesn't feel like you are eating carrots and regardless it's a very dressed up bougie delicious carrot plate ! Mmmm . One of my faves out of the snacks. 2. Narragansett Creamery Burrata: green strawberry, speck, basil. Creamy, vibrant and just delicious Pasta: only had room in our tummies for 1 but every year we try different pastas and never disappoints. This year no exception. Maltagliati- hopkins southdowns lamb sugo, swiss chard, harissa, umbrian chickpea. Excellent! Pasta was perfect texture and consistency!! Little touch of spice from harissa which I loved (not overpowering). The Swiss chard was cooked to a crispy texture which I loved. I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. We started off with drinks --gin dirty martini and a classic old fashion, both were perfectly made and crisp. Food: Appetizer-warm bread with butter was a nice starter. The steak was a beautiful cut of meat, well marbled, cooked to perfection and seared so nicely. It was sooo tasty and seared with Malden salt. We are pretty snobby when it comes to steak and this was probably the best steak I've ever had out at a restaurant. The scallops similarly were cooked and seared perfectly and seasoned correctly. Laid on a bed of watercress and potato fondant it was the perfect delicate bite and contrasted nicely with the steak. We got the side of brussel sprouts with peanut Rayu which was a beautiful flavor bomb. I can't say enough about the food. Every single thing we ordered was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I find that to be a rarity in today's restaurant scene. I could not recommend this place more. We really enjoyed it and this will be used as a comparison to every restaurant I go to going forward. 6/5 stars! Come here

Our experience completely redeemed the place on those concerns: every bite of food we had was _delicious_ and prepared in a masterly way. And the noise . . . well, it just wasn't even remarkable. It's a popular place, sure, but it's not a madhouse or anything. (I can think of two other nearby places that were a LOT louder than TSK on the nights we visited them.) Okay, but the service - friendly and . . . seemingly caring . . . but - I don't know, not always on top of things? Some things were instantly noted and addressed, others - well, there were big gaps of time between check-ins . . . and it wasn't an especially busy time. Also a couple reasonably major life events that had been noted when making the reservation were not even remarked upon: it was just sort of, "Here's your supper!" We'd certainly go back - the folks in the kitchen are fantastic and I want more of what they make - heck, I'd go back today. The folks out front . . . well, it wasn't an "A-Team" experience, although it wasn't unpleasant or anything.

I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry.

I specifically called and asked if the restaurant could accommodate a special dessert plate with "Will You Marry Me" written on it, and the staff member assured me it would not be a problem. Unfortunately, when the moment came, nothing was done. I went to the front afterward to ask why the request was never fulfilled, and the manager simply told me, "We don't do that." It was upsetting and embarrassing, especially after being promised otherwise. A proposal is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and the lack of communication completely ruined what I had planned. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. My fish and chips were decent, but the fries were overly salty. My fiancée's Caesar salad was very dry, and we had to ask for additional dressing. The anchovies were also slimy, which completely turned her off from the dish. Overall, the experience was disappointing from both a service and dining perspective. Sadly, I would give this restaurant 1 star.
