Food and service were five stars plus. Well trained servers were attentive and helpful from start to finish. Ambiance was 5 stars. The restaurant was located on a wharf by the water. Even though the menu is well organized and descriptive, it was hard to make a decision. So many good choices. Those nachos can feed a table of 4 AND IF YOU ADD A PROTEIN TO IT, it's a meal in itself! We saw another table with the nachos with a protein on it and they were eating a salad. Smart! My husband and I recently visited Smoke House after more than ten years. I remember going here during college, and it was just as good as I remembered it!! If you go and you only get one thing - get the nachos. We ordered our with pulled pork and they were hefty. They layered their nachos with cheese and toppings reaching even the nachos at the bottom of the tray. This is always a sign of quality nachos. We also ordered ribs and the brisket. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone flavorful. The brisket was sooo tender and has amazing texture. However, I really wanted it to have more flavor. I should have asked for BBQ sauce honestly. We ordered the red sangria bucket to share and thoroughly enjoyed this! My husband was skeptical at first but came around once he tried it! Kim, our server was so upbeat, friendly and overall charming!! The chef, Tom, created a delicious appetIzer, 3 flour Tortillas stuffed with their pulled pork and cheese, which were the most delicious, crispy Tortillas I have had. TLDR: food was highly disappointing but service was good. Average drinks, cool atmosphere. We ordered wings and the combo platter with ribs, brisket, pulled pork and sides of corn bread, baked beans, and mac and cheese. The wings weren't good; they were way too crispy and dry. The combo platter meats were very bad. Brisket was extremely dry and tough, there were tons of dry and burnt chunks in the pork, and the ribs were very dry and tough. Brisket should be falling apart or at least easily pulled apart and ribs should be as close to fall off the bone as possible. The manager noticed we were picking around the meat and trying to salvage the good pieces and even he said the food was unacceptable and took it bad to the kitchen for them to see. Cornbread and baked beans were good but the mac and cheese was just plain bad. Overall, the food was highly disappointing and I will not be returning again. Located in the middle of Newport waterfront and competing with dozens of other restaurants and they put in no effort. Just sort of a dingy little place. Time for another awesome summer of fun Newport days capped off with weeknight trips to the Smoke House for their 1/2 price "Late Night Goodness"! That's right, the whole food menu is half off Sunday-Thursday evenings from 10PM to close! I almost don't want to share this hidden secret with the masses, but if you're wandering around downtown Newport late at night and you're starved, you deserve to know! We've been longtime fans of this rustically chic BBQ joint, and this year is no exception, as we waited with bated breath for the cute little wooden hut to open up shop earlier this spring. The menu for the 2019 season has a couple of new updates, and I was delighted to see that the Smoke House pit crew has added roasted turkey to their lineup, in addition to a couple new salads and entrees. I've tried the new chopped salad, which this summer features chopped peaches to zazz up the healthful and surprisingly filling bowl of greens, bacon, cheese, beans, and corn, and the BBQ platter with turkey, which comes with a hunk of cornbread (soooooo buttery and good!) and slaw. The turkey has been a point of contention for me, since the first visit of the summer I was amazed by the succulence and flavor of the tender and delicious bird atop my chopped salad, but I visited again tonight after dreaming of the yummy protein pretty much all week, and found that the portion I was served tonight was flavorless, dry, and bland. Needless to say I was bummed, but luckily, I had the foresight to order a side of grilled corn (this is AMAZING) and watermelon, so I didn't go hungry by any means. Just cross your fingers that if you order the turkey, you'll be dining on a night when they give you the better cuts! My waitress, Briana, was awesome, though, and was prompt, friendly, and professional. I barely had to wait for my food even though it was pretty crowded on a lively Sunday evening in downtown Newport. I really do love this place, and recommend it to friends and strangers alike.
