Chomp is a nice addition to the Newport food scene. The location is just far up enough on Broadway that you might actually get parking. It's a very pretty space though it can be a bit too loud for date night (I swear I'm not that old and the music could be turned down just a bit). The service is 10/10! Everyone is so kind from the hostess, to server, to food runners. Everyone seemed to be working like a well run team. Now the food, if I'm being honest, the tots are average and I should have stuck with the fries. But I do appreciate the substitute. I've had the smash burger at their other locations and it's been a solid 4 stars, this one fell kind of short. It was (even for a smash burger) just too well done and dry. It wasn't bad tasting but it could have been better. I do think this was a one off, as I said, I've had many delicious burgers from Chomp Providence. I love that you can choose anything on the menu and make it a burger, chicken or veggie patty. This is what makes Chomp unique. I would definitely go back and try something new (but I'd stick with the fries). read more

Always love a quick smash burger! Once of my comfort foods is a French dip, so naturally I had to try the Big Melt Dip! Service was quick, not too busy for a Sunday afternoon. Sat at high too, enjoyed some crispy Brussels along with the sandwich with some greens. This was our first time at CHOMP Newport. We have been to 1 or 2 other locations previously. The space was wide open, well laid out but lacked some defining features that would add warmth or make it more inviting. The bar was no bar, just seats, a counter and no visible liquor. Kind of weird. The space used to be the now closed Fifth Element which was definitely better in the ambiance department. Service was good. We were sat at a small hightop near the "bar". Our server was pleasant and explained the food and drink options well. We started with a couple of cocktails that were actually quite good and had the Mexican Street corn fries. My wife followed up with the Ma Meatloaf and I had an excellent sandwich which had shaved steak(?) and pork (I think). It is not a regular menu item so I can't refer to that for accuracy. It has been over a month since we went there. All I remember is that the servings were HUGE and tasted great. We each had half left over to take home for lunch. We really enjoyed it. We will be back. I would spend a little cash and make the bar a real bar versus a service counter. read more

I live walking distance to this restaurant. Its got a pretty nice ambiance and vibe going on so had to try it. The food menu was surprisingly limited. Of course its a burger restaurant so I had the burger. I had a smash burger which was okay. Fries were a little below average. Couldn't put my finger on why it was below average. My friend who tried a burger that was mixed with pork meat, stated that it was an amazing burger. Service was very good and the drinks were good as well. Yum! Honestly Chomp Newport had one of the best burgers I've had in a while. We came in later on a Saturday night and got the last table available without a reservation. Ordered a couple of beers, crab Rangoon mozzarella sticks, and some burgers. While I personally didn't love the appetizer ( good flavor combo I just didn't enjoy the texture) the burgers were delicious . The atmosphere was fun and the service was friendly. Ordered online for lunch pick up. Easy order on toastab. Went in at around 1pm and it was half empty but still waited a couple minutes for someone to acknowledge me. Food was alright. The crab rangoon mozzarella stick was alright. The insides did not give me the familiar insides on an actual crab rangoon. Sauce was okay. Cajun wings was very salty and the saucy also went through the paper container and made a mess. For the burger and sandwich, we went with the "December specials", which were very underwhelming. The chicken cordon bleu does not look like the picture they used to advertise this sandwich. Fries were not that good in terms of crunchy and taste and starchiness. The fried chicken itself was alright but put together in a raggedy croissant that looks like they picked up from Costco, it was mid at best. The December special braciole burger was also a disappointment. The topping flavors do not go together well with the burger. Overall, I was completely disappointed. I thought this looked like a great burger joint. Nothing really stood out to me. I personally cannot recommend it. read more

The other day, my wife and I found ourselves in Newport, RI and were looking for a quick bite before heading home to New Hampshire. The main downtown area was packed, so we decided to head over to Broadway and see what we could find--and that's how we discovered Chomp. We ordered the Mexican Street Corn Fries, and they were amazing. Cajun-fried house-made fries topped with ranchero aioli, street corn pico, and Tajín--absolutely delicious. The portion was perfect for what we were looking for. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the overall vibe at Chomp was fun and upbeat. We had a really excellent meal here, taking a chance when we saw people waiting outside for lunch at several nearby restaurants while Chomp had no wait at all. We were seated quickly at a two-top, and I appreciated that they have booth seating; I'm tired of those hard metal chairs that everyone is using these days. Service was initially attentive, on the efficient more than friendly side; however, during our meal we did not receive any attention to or offer to refill our drinks. (I noticed this was a pattern--out of five other tables in my view, none of them got refilled/refreshed drinks or offers of such.) We also didn't get a check-in from our server until we were nearly done eating; as the restaurant wasn't super busy, we weren't sure why. Food was great; we each got chicken sandwiches off the menu and even with swapping grilled for fried everything was very tasty. After a couple of months of seeing Chomp pop up in my Resy recommendations, I decided to give the Newport location a try on a Saturday afternoon. It is located on the main street leading into downtown Newport and I was able to park at a parking lot right next to the restaurant. When I walked into the restaurant, the bar was pretty full, so I took a high top table next to the window. Within a few minutes, the waiter came to the table, acknowledged me and asked if I needed a couple more minutes before I ordered. I took advantage of that time to look over the menu for beers, appetizers, and burgers. I decided to have the burger boy IPA (draft) , Crab Rangoon mozzarella sticks and the Bulgogi Smashburger with tater tots (instead of fries). The beer arrived first and it was tasty, but definitely not the best IPA that I've ever had. Next, the Crab Rangoon mozzarella sticks came to the table and it consisted of four sticks of mozzarella that had crab Rangoon mixed in. Very, very, very good and I've never seen anywhere else. Finally, the Bulgolgi Smashburger with tater tots arrived at the table. I must admit, that the Bulgogi Smashburger was one of the best burgers that I have ever had. Perfect size, perfect flavoring, very nice presentation. As for the tater tots, they seem to be unseasoned and was probably my least favorite thing about the meal. All in, the price for my meal was about $65 and well worth it. Absolutely a place that I would come back to for the food, service and ambience. GREAT JOB!! read more

Fun vibe. Love the work done by a female artist of the giant octopus! Our waitress was super friendly. Seating is decently comfy. We had the classic smash burger with salad greens and a side of their creamy Mac n cheese. All delicious except that in the past, at their Warren location, if you ordered any burger over the field greens the greens covered your plate with the burger in the center. Did takeout from here and I would the food is mid. The ideas of the menu items are intriguing and definitely got us to go but the execution was off. The burgers and sandwiches sounds so great and the Crab Rangoon mozzarella sticks sound like the best invention ever but the presentation definitely suffered in takeout, sauces were all over the place making my fries soggy and the crab Rangoon sticks were stiff and it looks cheese was barely involved. My first experience at one of the Chomp restaurants. Sat at the bar and ordered our drinks. Though I enjoy a hamburger a few times, I was curious to try theirs due to their reputation. I ordered the classic smash burger with fries. The burger was cooked medium - rare which I was happy even though I wasn't asked how I liked it cooked & learned that with smashed burgers it's usually prepared medium to well done. The burger was very good , juicy, and was served with cheese, pickles and an aioli sauce. The fries were definitely hand cut & very good. The atmosphere is quite lively, the restaurant filled up fast. I was a bit disappointed in the service. Though the bartenders did ask how everything was, we didn't see them until we had to ask for the check twice. We were never asked if we wanted our drinks refreshed. I would definitely return to try other menu selections & hope the waitstaff is a bit more attentive. read more

I am not sure if this is a local spot or a tourist spot, either way it was Busy! First, the staff was great. Our server, 'Tal' or 'Tad' (sorry on the name) was on point. They were behind, but very nice. The food: 3 of us had some sort of burger the other chicken app. If this is not known as a burger place, it should be. The burgers were excellent. Smashed burger style, very juicy and not a heavy feeling from eating them. The chicken nug app, could have used a little less "breading", but the house BBQ was good. The fries on all the meals were crispy and really salted, which went perfect with the burger. The cost, 4 people, 4 meals, 4 drinks about 84 bucks, not too bad. I'd give em a 4.5 overall. read more

Burgers are fantastic. The sourdough is crispy, the chomp sauce is zesty and moist, the onions are grilled to perfection, the patty is well seasoned and grilled to bring out the quality of the meat. So I'm basically reviewing the beer/bar experience. To be fair I didn't eat but I've heard the food is very good. As for the bar it's a big beautiful bar and open to the outside so great for a sunny day. There's no tvs behind the bar. Weird. There's TVs adjacent to the bar on the right and one behind the bar. I prefer a tv in front of me when I'm sitting at the bar and watching a game. This is a deal breaker for me and will keep me away from this bar unless they add TVs. The second major disappointment for me is the draft beer pours. They are not pints. They are 12 ounce pours which is unacceptable to me. There's nothing worse to me than getting a 12 ounce cup of draft beer at a bar. Sorry but I'll go to poor judgement, fastnet, or any other bar in Newport and get a pint. Mini pours are a bad look and this will have to change for me to come back. It's too bad because they have a great beer list. read more
