Hooooooly Cow! ( and Turkey!!! ) We've just been blown away by Becky's! Let's back up a bit... Truth be told, we were not big fans of Becky's before the new owners took over. We'd tried it a few times & were disappointed. Having lived in the south for more than a decade we'd hoped that this place would be the taste of the south we missed. It wasn't. This January, we were drawn back to try it under the new management for the RI Food Fights Lord of the Wings. The place looked great & the super nice woman at the counter suggested we try the Old Bay Wings. She was right - they were fabulous! Lightly smoked, crispy, not flabby or rubbery as smoked wings can sometimes be, and the Bay seasoning gave them a perfect salty spiced crust. Maybe it was time to try this place again. We've returned for take-out several times since. They do have a cute, small dining area, but just ten minutes from home, take-out is perfect. Each time I've come we've tried different items and have never been disappointed again. The half chicken & pulled pork were delicious and the sides always fabulous. Plus - every visit now had to include those Old Bay wings! Along the way, we discovered they sometimes have collard greens, made the right way -cooked long and slow with smoked turkey. We fell in love! So, the other day, while I was couch-camping recovering from surgery, I saw a couple of posts on their social media. Not only had they made a big mess of those wonderful collards, but they were smoking turkeys & serving them this week! I HAD to have that! I wasn't wrong. My partner picked up the order & had peeked in the bag before return home. He knew I was going to be a happy camper. His eyes lit up like he was giving me a Christmas present when he presented the bag. For the next hour, we moaned in joy as we devoured the deliciousness! The turkey was as fabulous as I had hoped! Lightly smoked, dripping in a savory gravy. The accompanying collards, corn bread & mac & cheese were perfect. My partner had gone with the brisket. His, too, was perfect. It was a huge slab with a savory spiced crust, a juicy layer of fat that melted in your mouth and tender meat. Now a plea to the owners.... please, please make this turkey more often!!! If not all year, at least for the cold winter months. This was the absolutely perfect comfort food menu that I needed. Can't wait for more! Stopped in to grab some takeout on our way to a brewery in Bristol. If I was rating Becky's purely on the food I'd probably give it 4 stars but having only 1/2 the menu available on a Saturday was a bit disappointing and worthy of a slight deduction. The building is fairly small but there is some indoor seating available. The ambiance isn't much to look at but it seemed clean and was all that we needed since it was to-go. They have some plasticware and to-go containers for sauces which was helpful, but you'll need your own plates. Smoked flavors were spot on and the sauces were tasty. The prices were on par with most BBQ joints (brisket isn't cheap) but I got a pretty large chunk of inedible bark included. The ribs were good and the membrane was removed but slightly less meaty than others I've had. The kielbasa had great flavor and paired perfectly with the Carolina gold sauce. I would probably go back just for that! The only sides that were available were cornbread and beans. The cornbread was cake-like and moist. We didn't try the beans. Service was a normal Gen Z interaction IYKWIM. Overall, the food was pretty good and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again if in the area. Just wish they had the full menu available. read more

Hey Guys If you're a Southerner... this is not your place to dine. It may be fine for the great folks from RI but you know better. In my most humble opinion, it is the sides and the old style desserts that make a restaurant serving our Southern Delite's so good. The Potato Salad was not the traditional with mustard, sweet relish or those soft-ish potatoes that is so yummy to eat. It was hard and crunchy. Not my preference. Their collard greens had way too many stems and no flavor.... I am a smoked collard greens with ham hock, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar guy! Not to mention, there was no sweet tea or the advertised Peach Cobbler because they were out of it.... The spare ribs were not bad but anybody can make average smoked meat. I prefer hickory to Oak wood. The pork serving was plentiful and the place seemed a hit with the locals. The lady at the register was really nice but had absolute no idea about the menu items.... Next time I am in the mood for some smoked meat... I stop off in Seekonk, MA All the Best! read more

The BBQ itself is excellent - truly some of the best around, and unlike anything else locally! Unfortunately, in November, we had a very disappointing experience with the new owners. We were charged significantly more than expected, and the lack of accountability afterward left us feeling taken advantage of. We placed a catering order for a gathering of 30 people, requesting 10 servings each of chicken, pork, and ribs. I emailed the restaurant with these details and received a reply confirming the order. However, at pickup, Becky's staff stated they never received my email because the inbox isn't monitored, despite the fact that someone replied to it. They also said they weren't sure how to portion catering orders because they "don't measure in servings." My husband was then given (and charged for) over $500 worth of food, enough to serve close to 90 people once we set it all out. The following weekend, my husband and I returned and spoke with a manager. We were told my husband "should have been more clear" about the number of guests and that the situation was "no one's fault." I also suggested removing the email address from their website if it isn't monitored, but the manager said he had no involvement with the email or the website. I left my number for the owner, Mike, but never received a follow-up call. Overall, the experience felt dismissive and unresolved. read more

The food was great. The Brisket was a bit dry but was still great. Fantastic flavor. The pulled pork was pot on. The Cole slaw was great as was the potato salad. The cornbread was a bit sweet for me. Portions were great. No need for sauces on my food, but they have a few different styles if you want it. The staff were friendly and the dining area was clean. Stepping into Becky's, you immediately feel that it's more than just another BBQ spot -- there's a genuine warmth and authenticity in the atmosphere. The food absolutely lived up to the hype! I went with takeout, and it was every bit as delicious as dining in. PSA: no booze here. Super small location. I assume they can only fit a max of 20 people (and this number might be generous.) The people were SUPER nice! The owner promoted the raspberry chipotle sauce. We were Sweet Bourbon. The wings are smoked for a long time and fried as well. The wing is a good wing! Meaty and not too over smoked (I bet the frying helped there.) The sauce was up my alley but I would have loved to tried their other flavors as well. This was the wing winner of the day (we hit 6 places that day.) My Becky's win: THE CORNBREAD! It came without butter and I immediately churned in my seat but I totally judged a book by it's cover. Super moist! No butter or anything needed! AMAZING. Also, they do not have pecan pie. I think 4 stars is accurate. The service was so friendly and quick! The location is also right off the road with some parking and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is very small. We got the two plate two side with pulled pork and chopped brisket and it was a little dry. It was the end of the day but I was a little disappointed. The sides are what stole the show. I really enjoyed the corn bread and the baked beans. The beans were delicious it's definitely a must try! Overall an ok place in a town full of very pricy options so this one is better if you're trying to save! read more

The "new" Becky's is a joke. Same lame menu. Even worse service. I walked in, there was a table of people eating and two other people waiting for orders. I read the big menu board for awhile and when I was ready I stood at the counter. After way too long without seeing anyone I was looking for a bell or something. I found a rude, handwritten sign demanding customers NOT announce their presence. The staff can't see anyone waiting through the dirty curtains separating the kitchen from dining room/ counter. Service/ambience: the place is a small but very well kept and clean house. The cashier was very nice and welcoming; reminding me a very southern hospitality. While I waited the cashier struck a conversation as well as brought me a fresh piece of brisket out of the smoker. Food: man oh man, you the food touched my soul as I took each bite from the brisket, Mac and cheese, smashed potatoes, the corn bread and the smoked wings. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes coming into the restaurant but after indulging in the food, let me tell you: Newport being off the coast and being a lobster town, I highly suggest you at least try this place!! Very cute little mom and pop restaurant on a busy stretch in Middletown. I had stopped to do some biz at the DMV and saw the signage on my way by and thought I'd swing back around to try it. I'm always on a quest for good barbecue and it's not that easy to found around these parts. I stopped by with my son for lunch and tried a few things from the lunch menu. He got the pulled pork barbecue sandwich and I got the quarter slab of ribs. His pulled pork sandwich was a generous portion of pork. Being that he's 16, I was not able to get a taste before it was gone. It didn't look like the typical pulled pork that I usually see. It was more of a mixture of pork with the barbecue sauce mixed in a meat-like spread rather than visible chunks of meat. He said that it was better than average. My quarter slab of ribs was four bones, one of which was an end. I got one side-and a piece of cornbread. Three of the bones were tender and fall off the bone perfection. I wasn't thrilled that the fourth was really a burnt end. Which are tasty tidbits that I feel are best as a throw in, not considered part of a slab. That's just my opinion. They offered three different sauces. My favorite was a mustard based barbecue sauce. The cornbread was moist and cake like. I probably should've asked for some butter. The coleslaw was pretty tasty. It was vinegar based, and had just the right amount of tang and crunch. Service was friendly and efficient. The dining area is self-service. Meaning you get your own disposable flatware and wait at the table for the kitchen to bring your paper plate of food. Definitely not big enough for a large party but perfect for solo dining or grabbing a quick bite with a companion like I did. I really like my sides with my barbecue. Beckys doesn't have a very wide selection. The four choices were mashed potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, and baked beans. I was hoping for some greens or mac & cheese, but I'm sure the small operation keeps their menu small for a reason. There's a small little parking lot in the back and they did a steady take out business while we were there eating lunch. Lunch was reasonably priced. Both options averaged about $10 each. I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Becky's yet, as I have been coming here for years now. Before COVID, they would even cater for my office, and were definitely one of the office's most favorite restaurants for lunch. This most recent trip I finally tried their ribs. Being from Kansas City, I am a bit of a rib snob, so I have held out all this time. Let me say that I deeply regret holding out! Their ribs are so tender, and have the perfect amount of smoked flavor as well. I will have a hard time ordering anything else now. Definitely some of the best ribs in New England! So not to neglect the rest of the plate, these amazing ribs also come with two sides, I chose their amazing beans and delicious potato salad. Also, a bbq restaurant is simply not legit without giving you cornbread with your meal. As with the rest of their food, Becky's cornbread is amazing as well. If you can't tell, I am a huge Becky's fan, and if you go there I can assure you that you will be as well! No idea how others say this is anything like Becky's former self on the food side. The mac and cheese with brisket was-----Well dined in and the brisket was cold, dry and over cooked. Was cheering the revival of an institution we had gone to for years while on vacation there year after year. I think people can be happy about it, and love some of the things that didn't change, and enjoy some that did. I was told they are opening one in east Providence as well. The good : the quality and profiles of the meats tended to be as remembered. My family said the pulled pork, pulled chicken, and ribs were all close to what was remembered and very enjoyable. I had the ribs myself. They were soft, juicy, solid meat ribs with a really nice smoke and flavor to them, and totally worth getting again (not quite fall off the bone, but good eaters). We tried a bunch of the sides, all met with different pallets a bit differently, many with some variations/twists, but this is a small sample to judge, and we all liked them for the most part. The 3 bean salad/"Becky's bean salad" tasted good, I always had a soft spot for the sweet sauce, but I remembered there being Lima beans in it, which it didn't have in this iteration. The Potato salad seemed to have a little more onion flavor in it. The mashed potatoes had a good dose of pepper in them. And the cold slaw was slightly improved we thought. I would say if you were a fan before, then you should go back, and if you haven't been, it's worth dropping by for a BBQ fix. It seemed pretty solid, like it used to be. Becky's had closed for a few months and changed hands. Just went back and the food is as good as ever. The ribs were done perfectly, for sides I had the smashed potatoes and baked beans. New recipe for the corn bread (yum). Absolutely fabulous on all counts! The new owners did a great job cleaning up the place and updating the environment. We ate there and it was pleasant. Staff is super friendly and was patient while we picked through our choices. Still no liquor license (I understand they are applying for one) but we didn't care... we were there for the food. I tried Becky's BBQ for lunch with some coworkers last week. We got there right as they opened, so there wasn't a wait. The restaurant seems to be an older home that the owners converted. It has a casual/cozy atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the food was good. The only odd thing was the bathroom. Only one bathroom is located behind the counter in the basement. It's nice they let people use it, but, oddly, you have to go through the kitchen and store room to get to it. I was happy they let me use it at all. Given another opportunity to go back, I would because the food was good, and the service was excellent. read more

The barbecue is awesome. I've been here many times and have pretty much tried it all. Pulled chicken and smashed potatoes are the best. Service is always friendly, parking is plentiful since most people take it to go. One thing- avoid the desserts. They're made by the bakery next door and a 5 year old could do better. Had no idea this place was pretty much the bottom level of an old house. Got kind of excited when I saw that. Cute little place. Had a "Build your own" plate which was kind of like a choice of 2 sides and then keep adding meats as you want them deal. Looking for some traditional Brisket sliced and the only thing they have on the menu was "Pulled Brisket". I've never had it before so I figured what the hell. In a nutshell this is BBQ infused pulled pork that is exactly the stuff you want on a Bulky roll. It's Really Good! but it's not brisket. I mean it might be? But I don't know how anyone can put in the hours and hours of effort to make a nice brisket and then put it in a food processor with BBQ sauce, like it soak in like for a few days in a crock pot, and then still call it Brisket. Tiny Ribs, pre-cut, tiny bit of a smoke ring, tiny bit of fat, nice glaze on top, meat comes off with the bite, fall off the bone, a bit more on the salty side but not like a salty zing to the tongue. The flavor of the meat was good but ... I can't really describe it, it's almost like it's artificial. Like the meat comes off a little too easily and the flavor is a little too typical? if that makes any sense. Mashed potatoes is like exactly what you would expect at the Thanksgiving table. I feel like these were made with the love that was missing from the Ribs. Real potatoes, red bliss skins, no gravy, but creamy and mushy at the same time. Cornbread looked exactly like what you would expect from a regular jiffy mix. But this was a weird taste texture, the grittyness I get from a lot of good cornbread is like little tiny grains of actual grits. The texture and grit from this one was like fine sand. Not that it made it worse or better but it felt different on the tongue. Baked beans were call "Three Bean Bake" which threw me off a bit. I saw Red, Pinto, and maybe White beans. Kinda like a pale Greenish Brown color to the sauce. Tiny piece of meat, could be bacon, could be pork. Couldn't see any veggies, I was hoping for it. Meat didn't really add anything to the flavor. Beans are cooked perfectly. Sauce might have a spice or seasoning in it that kind of reminds me of a vegetable flavor, like a subtle celery. I couldn't taste anything that was sweet but my partner tried it and said she could taste a big amount of sweetness so I don't know what to believe anymore. I was hoping the corn nibbles were something special, I don't know, maybe like a sweet corn chowder mix or something. It was just corn kernels. They gave me 3 sauces. 2 of them were pretty standard, Sweet and Gold sauce. But The Carolina Vinegar sauce is like a nice sweet apple cider vinegar that is much closer to real BBQ sauce than the others, and there was Tons of spices in that sauce. Pecan Pie ... WTF was That! It Looked Like it was Bad Pecan Pie made in 1974 and has been sitting in a container ever since! What in the Actual ---- Is this thing? It kind of tasted like Baklava without the honey or anything that is good about Baklava. The weird dried meringue top that was all cracks like a weird wafer cookie. And the inside looked awful! When I discovered this place a year ago I was impressed with their "Home made"Bar b que pork. It was as good as any I had in North Carolina or Georgia. Found by accident. I was heading back to HWS after leaving Shaw's (I know you read both those reviews) when I stumbled on to this place. These are the following statements: First the decor is pleasant and there's an I LOVE ME wall. Second I expected to get that wiff of burnt meat when you walk in and I did. Third I wanted brisket and chicken. I got it but not the traditional way I'm use to. Again must be an RI thing. Four it's good. The following explanations: First the walls are covered with awards for the restaurants from magazines to local TV shows. Pretty cool. I like the big huge menu hanging on the wall next to the register. Second you can smell the aroma from the kitchen. Walking towards the main entrance, and you can see the wood they use. I believe the shack next to the restaurant is where the smoker is. I need to verify next round and there is going to be a next round. Third I've always gotten my brisket slices and my chicken with the bone. Here the brisket looks pulled or shred and the chicken deboned. Both are portioned controlled using a bowl. My combo meal included corn bread and coleslaw. Four taste buds are mostly happy. The meats are a little dry without the sauce. They hooked me up with three kinds. The traditional BBQ sauce, a mustard honey base, and a vinegar pepper mixture. My opinion is the mustard for the chicken and the BBQ for the brisket. Those meats paired with those sauces was really good. I missed the fat on the beef and the skin in the chicken as theses were removed. Skin and fat would have provided some moisture and more taste. The coleslaw is vinegar based but it tasted average. The vinegar had collected on the bottom so it was packed sometime ago. I did like the cornbread. It would have been better if grilled like Zippy's (I know you read that review) and if they supplied butter and honey. I forgot to ask. Overall four stars. The place is clean and the workers very friendly. Plenty of parking in the back and plenty of seats inside to park your rear. With my husband being born and raised in Missouri, he know's good BBQ and for him to be impressed, it had to be great! When you pull up, it feels like you are pulling into some elderly persons driveway, it is not what you would expect in a restaurant. The dining area is VERY tiny and I can't imagine it seats more than 20 people, but they do have take out. We were fortunate enough to get a table so we got to eat inside and it feels like you are sitting in someones home. The prices are VERY low and the food is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. We tried the BBQ pulled pork, BBQ pulled chicken, Becky's 3 bean bake, Smashed potatoes and the corn bread.
