Huge slab of Brisket

Hooooooly Cow! ( and Turkey!!! ) We've just been blown away by Becky's! Let's back up a bit... Truth be told, we were not big fans of Becky's before the new owners took over. We'd tried it a few times & were disappointed. Having lived in the south for more than a decade we'd hoped that this place would be the taste of the south we missed. It wasn't. This January, we were drawn back to try it under the new management for the RI Food Fights Lord of the Wings. The place looked great & the super nice woman at the counter suggested we try the Old Bay Wings. She was right - they were fabulous! Lightly smoked, crispy, not flabby or rubbery as smoked wings can sometimes be, and the Bay seasoning gave them a perfect salty spiced crust. Maybe it was time to try this place again. We've returned for take-out several times since. They do have a cute, small dining area, but just ten minutes from home, take-out is perfect. Each time I've come we've tried different items and have never been disappointed again. The half chicken & pulled pork were delicious and the sides always fabulous. Plus - every visit now had to include those Old Bay wings! Along the way, we discovered they sometimes have collard greens, made the right way -cooked long and slow with smoked turkey. We fell in love! So, the other day, while I was couch-camping recovering from surgery, I saw a couple of posts on their social media. Not only had they made a big mess of those wonderful collards, but they were smoking turkeys & serving them this week! I HAD to have that! I wasn't wrong. My partner picked up the order & had peeked in the bag before return home. He knew I was going to be a happy camper. His eyes lit up like he was giving me a Christmas present when he presented the bag. For the next hour, we moaned in joy as we devoured the deliciousness! The turkey was as fabulous as I had hoped! Lightly smoked, dripping in a savory gravy. The accompanying collards, corn bread & mac & cheese were perfect. My partner had gone with the brisket. His, too, was perfect. It was a huge slab with a savory spiced crust, a juicy layer of fat that melted in your mouth and tender meat. Now a plea to the owners.... please, please make this turkey more often!!! If not all year, at least for the cold winter months. This was the absolutely perfect comfort food menu that I needed. Can't wait for more! And, of course, a side of those Old Bay wings - always.

Stepping into Becky's, you immediately feel that it's more than just another BBQ spot -- there's a genuine warmth and authenticity in the atmosphere. The food absolutely lived up to the hype! I went with takeout, and it was every bit as delicious as dining in. The wings were the real standout -- incredibly tender and packed with flavor -- but the brisket sandwich deserves plenty of praise too, perfectly sized and full of smoky goodness. Overall, the meal was outstanding. The homemade, comforting flavors left me completely satisfied... and happily in a full-on meat coma by the end of the night!

This was our first time trying this barbecue place, and unfortunately it will also be our last. We did a pickup order and stood at the counter for almost five minutes without anyone acknowledging us. The sign posted at the register saying "My name isn't hello" only added to the unwelcoming atmosphere. I understand places get busy, but basic customer service and hospitality still matter, specially at a restaurant with southern food. To make matters worse, the food itself was mediocre and didn't make up for the poor experience. We do not recommend this place, and we will not be back.

RI Food Fight- Lord of the Wings review 2025: BECK WITH THE GOOD WINGS! The setting: a cold, snowy January day where 3 couples have opted to have an adult wing day! Becky's was stop #3. PSA: no booze here. Super small location. I assume they can only fit a max of 20 people (and this number might be generous.) The people were SUPER nice! The owner promoted the raspberry chipotle sauce. We were Sweet Bourbon. The wings are smoked for a long time and fried as well. The wing is a good wing! Meaty and not too over smoked (I bet the frying helped there.) The sauce was up my alley but I would have loved to tried their other flavors as well. This was the wing winner of the day (we hit 6 places that day.) My Becky's win: THE CORNBREAD! It came without butter and I immediately churned in my seat but I totally judged a book by it's cover. Super moist! No butter or anything needed! AMAZING. Also, they do not have pecan pie. Theya re under new ownership and this is not a aprt of their menu so disregard those pecan pie photo's on Yelp.

I think 4 stars is accurate. The service was so friendly and quick! The location is also right off the road with some parking and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is very small. We got the two plate two side with pulled pork and chopped brisket and it was a little dry. It was the end of the day but I was a little disappointed. The sides are what stole the show. I really enjoyed the corn bread and the baked beans. The beans were delicious it's definitely a must try! Overall an ok place in a town full of very pricy options so this one is better if you're trying to save!

Service/ambience: the place is a small but very well kept and clean house. The cashier was very nice and welcoming; reminding me a very southern hospitality. While I waited the cashier struck a conversation as well as brought me a fresh piece of brisket out of the smoker. Food: man oh man, you the food touched my soul as I took each bite from the brisket, Mac and cheese, smashed potatoes, the corn bread and the smoked wings. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes coming into the restaurant but after indulging in the food, let me tell you: Newport being off the coast and being a lobster town, I highly suggest you at least try this place!! All of the food was flavorful, seasoned appropriately and the cornbread was rich and NOT dry. Must try!

Came here with #rifoodfights #lordofthewing tour. Had the sweet burbon flavored sauce. Wings were decent. Also had pulled pork with their mac and cheese, smashed potatoes, and cornbread. Food was tasty, but was cold. We had food not long enough on table to be cold. Tasty yes, but would have been better hotter. Cute little place inside and funny signs throughout.

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed Becky's yet, as I have been coming here for years now. Before COVID, they would even cater for my office, and were definitely one of the office's most favorite restaurants for lunch. This most recent trip I finally tried their ribs. Being from Kansas City, I am a bit of a rib snob, so I have held out all this time. Let me say that I deeply regret holding out! Their ribs are so tender, and have the perfect amount of smoked flavor as well. I will have a hard time ordering anything else now. Definitely some of the best ribs in New England! So not to neglect the rest of the plate, these amazing ribs also come with two sides, I chose their amazing beans and delicious potato salad. Also, a bbq restaurant is simply not legit without giving you cornbread with your meal. As with the rest of their food, Becky's cornbread is amazing as well. If you can't tell, I am a huge Becky's fan, and if you go there I can assure you that you will be as well! Due to COVID, they are takeout only, but their food is well packed and still hot when you get to where you are going!

My husband is really…read moreinto tiki cocktails and has spent a lot of time reading about and making drinks from Smuggler's Cove, Don the Beachcomber, and the classic tiki tradition, so we were excited to see what Newport's tiki bar was doing. Unfortunately, the drinks were a pretty big disappointment. We asked for an original/classic Mai Tai, rather than the restaurant's interpretation or a modern spin. What we received was essentially just a glass of rum. There was very little citrus or almond/orgeat character coming through. A classic Mai Tai should have a much more balanced combination of rum, citrus, and orgeat, and the drink we received didn't come close. I also asked if they could make a Saturn. They said they could, although they couldn't make it frozen--which isn't actually an issue since a classic Saturn doesn't need to be frozen. The drink tasted fine, but it didn't really taste like a Saturn. The service itself was nice, and the staff did try to accommodate our requests, so this isn't a complaint about the people working there. That said, if a bar can't confidently execute a classic cocktail, I'd honestly rather they say so and recommend something from their menu than serve something that doesn't resemble the drink being requested. That's ultimately what left us disappointed. We weren't expecting every drink to be historically perfect, and there's absolutely room for creative tiki riffs. But if you're going to call yourself a Tiki Bar, being able to execute at least some of the foundational classics seems pretty important. The waterfront location is fun, and if you're simply looking for a fruity tropical cocktail while wandering around Newport, this might be your spot. But for someone genuinely interested in tiki cocktails, this felt more like a tourist-friendly waterfront bar serving tropical drinks than an authentic tiki bar with a serious cocktail program.

On the bright side, the plantains were cooked perfectly and had an excellent flavor. Service was fast, which we appreciated, and they had a solid drink selection. We tried the local sweet tea, which was a nice touch. While this visit was a bit hit or miss food-wise, there's enough potential that we'd probably come back and try the burritos or tacos next time.

The truffle mac & cheese may be one of the best vegan mac & cheeses I've had in a really long time. So creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. The cauliflower bites were another favorite--fresh, crunchy little nuggets tossed perfectly in honey mustard. I originally thought the sauce would come on the side for dipping, but I actually loved that they were coated so evenly. So good! Hubby had the Rubenesque sandwich, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. There was also a steady stream of people picking up online orders and grabbing food to go, which definitely made us feel like this is a local favorite.
