Coddington Brewery is an average restaurant. The staff is thoughtful and motivated. The decor is corporate, like a Chili's or TGI Fridays. The food is average. Not bad, mind you. But average. The burger is about what you'd expect. My wife's salad looked fine. The restaurant is very wheelchair friendly, and did I mention the hospitable staff? If I lived within walking distance of Coddington Brewery, I wouldn't hesitate to go there on a weekly basis - because good enough is good enough. Good place to stop in for food and a drink. Had a coworker that wanted to have a post work chat and was a close option. I will say my rating is based on the service we received and the food is around 4 star. We were seated and truly enjoyed the experience with the staff. Quick and very attentive to all the tables, providing great recommendations and clearly enjoying their work here. Setting was good for conversation not overly loud so easy to carry conversation without having to scream. Steak was cooked as desired, flavorful, little on the grisly side. Green beans were seasoned and cooked well and mashed great consistency and taste. If you are going for a comfort meal casual experience with great service this will suffice, if looking to impress the palate, recommend another venue. read more

I've been going here since college. The beer and food is good. It's one of the more simple and relaxed places on the island and it's really nice to have a hometown classic. The beer, well, it was less than expected. I was excited for the flight, but after taking a sip of each, it was hard to really tell the difference. Even the stout was closer to an Ale than a Stout, except in color. It was the lightest Stout I have ever had. Coddington has been around for years. The restaurant is large. They have plenty of seating inside, and on the patio. It does fill up with people from town and from the base. I enjoy all the choices of beer they offer. The beer is very good. My favorite is the stout. They have pretty much everything you would need. Wings pizzas, quesadilla, sandwiches, and steak tips are just some of your choices. The food is a little inconsistent. Not bad but could be better. The staff are great. They are always super busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, so I recommend calling ahead. The restaurant itself is very warm and cozy, with ample tables, booths, and high top tables. Stopped here drinks and appetizers. Beers were really good the Watermelon was my favorite , it was less hoppy the the blueberry beer. I would come here again just to eat the blue cheese. It's the best I ever had ! Not pictured is clam chowder, it's not a super thick chowder but it is creamy. Most importantly it had lots of clams and seasoned it's lots of dill. Chilli was not spicy and not as thick as I like it , it had more of a consistency of a stew. It was also 1/2 kidney beans and meat which like it just needed more heat. Potato skins were more like a 1/2 baked potato cut in half. They were ok my wife really like them , they were very filling because of the size. Buffalo wing were great . What do you do after a morning of fishing and walking around with kids in the heat? You find a restaurant with decent beer and yummy comfort food! Highly recommend the beer sampler which features all of the brews coddington offers. I ordered a sriracha burger wrap and it was delicious! We all also raved about how good the fries were. Debated if I should try a cocktail since I saw someone drinking an espresso martini but didn't want to mix beer and liquor. Next time! Food was great my favorite item I tried was the buffalo chicken egg rolls they were out of this world. I ordered a cup of chowder and a personal sized cheese pizza. Chowder was good, was slightly bland just needed a little bit more salt. The cheese pizza was fantastic, was a generous, personal size pizza. I was totally prepared to give this place 5 stars. However, I found out that for extra shrimp, it is $2.50 PER SHRIMP. Let me back up. I ordered the shrimp with doodles. It's $26.95 for the dish. I thought I'd be getting more than four shrimp. Four shrimp and all these zoodles. I had asked for extra shrimp when I ordered and the waitress never told me it was $2.50 each. We received our meals and there were no extra shrimp. That's when she told me how much they were, so I ordered a side of chicken. Much more reasonable. Fish tacos were just meh. Beer is good, fish and chips are excellent, Mac n cheese (kids) was really good, usually the comfort style food is really good. Dessert is on point. Our waitress was really sweet. We came from Kentucky to Newport for the graduation of our son from OCS. The white knuckle flight into Providence left us exhausted and hungry. The girl at the front desk at the Hampton suggested Coddington Brewery. And we are glad she did. First, the staff was great: the greeter, the server, and the bar staff. We sat in the bar area because it seemed to be where the locals were hanging. Also, basketball was on the televisions. It was a bit chilly, so we ordered two cups of chili. It was cheesy and served with a dollop of sour cream. I would have liked a little hot sauce to add heat, but it was yummy!! My husband ordered the club sandwich with a side salad; while I ordered the fried fish with fries. Both were very filling. Since we had the chili first, we probably should have split one entree. stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon after driving to middletown for a long weekend. Clean environment, entire wait staff was friendly, especially our waitress Lexy, and sat down immediately. The Calamari was great, the Buffalo Rolls had a nice (asian) twist. The Beer Burger was cooked to order and held together nicely in my pretzel bun. I am more geared toward IPAs so I didn't care for the darker beers like the Brown Ale and the Stout. But wanted to try everything as I don't know when I'll be in the area again. Blueberry Blonde was a real highlight I enjoyed that one I think the best. Generous pours for a sampler for one person , I appreciated that as I got more tastes than I thought I would be get.
