It's 2025 and it's still 4 stars. Just a few updates: the games int eh rear of the building are now tables and they have closed in the patio with glass barriers. Smart move! It doesn't block the view. Plus the ice cream shack now has more flavors. Also, the frozen sangria hit the spot! As a true Rhode Islanders I love clamcakes and chowder.

I had heard so many great things about Monahan's, this was definitely one of those places we had to visit while in Rhode Island. There were so many options on the menu that it was overwhelming, but I ended up ordering what the locals would've gotten. Their famous clam chowder that comes with 3 clam cakes and a Narraganset beer. I have to tell you, this is probably the best clam chowder I've ever had, truly. loaded with clam, really delicious flavor. I personally make clam chowder from time to time but it's never like this. Bravo to the chef. The clam cakes however, that's kind of a different story. I was not a fan, they hardly had any clams in there, and it felt like eating a savory donut that had too much baking soda or baking powder in the mixture. My mom also agreed, and we ended up actually leaving most of it behind. My mom ordered the shrimp tacos because she didn't want anything fried and they were great. Overall great food, add to the fact that you're facing that beautiful beach, I'd definitely come back for that chowder and maybe something else.

Last visit of 2025, Labor Day! Still worth the trip from Westchester County, New York! We added the clear Clam Chowder to our order! Absolutely delicious! Five stars for sure! Service and ambience spectacular as usual!

I declare thee an EXCELLENT clam shack. Clearly, I'm not the first to get to Monahan's but I'll give you my experience. It was a dreary Wednesday in August. We were staying nearby and I had bookmarked Monahan's so we went for it, around 11:30am. We waited only about 15 minutes for our food, which was FREAKING AWESOME. First let me tell you that when I bookmarked the restaurant, a few hours later I saw a tik tok of a lady who said she was from Narraganset and moving away from the area and she HAD TO HAVE one last "fish reuben" from this place. When I saw the menu, I knew that's what I had to have. So, for 3 of us we ordered: two fish reubens, a crab cake sandwich, a half pint of clam strips and a small onion rings and small fries. The prices were surprisingly cheap for a place smack dab in a tourist area. The food was SO GOOD. First the clam strips were quite tender and tasty. The fish reuben was absolutely perfect, on grilled rye with swiss, 1,000 island dressing and slaw. I didn't try the crab cake sammy but it was huge and my mom loved it. The fries were not my favorite style (they have a coating on them-not for me) but the o-rings were serviceable. Great spot for some seafood at nice prices.

Good seafood restaurant by the water! We went around 6pm on a summer Thursday night and we waited about 45 mins on line but after ordering, food came within 10-15 mins which wasn't too bad! line was pretty long though so I would definitely expect to wait on line especially if you were coming around dinner time! The clam chowder was really great! Lobster roll was also good for $28 you do get a lot of lobster meat! Parking was also a little hard due to the amount of people so please also take that into consideration! All in all it was a great experience it wasn't too hard to find a table to fit our party and views definitely was an added bonus.

This is the place to be in Narragansett for lunch or dinner after the beach all food is exceptional, but their tuna tacos are out of this world I always get them and the coconut shrimp. I eat here probably once a week. They have a bar that serves beer, wine and frozen drinks and if you're smart, you'll grab yourself a frozen drink to enjoy while you wait in the line which can be off putting but it does go fast, especially with a cold drink in your hand. And it's totally worth it. I would say negatives would be parking, but everybody seems to make it work. You can enjoy your food outside at the picnic tables or even take it down to the beach or on the seawall tons of options. They also have Jenga in the back and an ice cream shop so it's perfect to bring kids and it's dog friendly! Along with the beach below.

Ambiance...perfect coastal setting with ample outdoor tables with umbrellas! Only downfall is limited parking so prepare to walk. Lobster rolls are amazing, best in the state. French fries were perfectly cooked and my husband liked the Cole slaw. There is regularly a long line but once you order, the food comes out quickly.

There is like no clam in the clam cake but retrospectively i think thats kind of ok? Btw theyre like big puffy savory funnel cake donuts for those who dont know (like myself prior to yday.) I wld have loved if there was more clam but they were still totally delicious (and likely PERF with the chowder, which i wld have gotten if i ate meat). I truly love american seafood and a beachside shack so this was perf to me

This roadside restaurant is located near the water Bay and a very popular spot for both locals and tourists. The hot lobster roll with butter was exceptionally delicious. We also had a cup of white clam chowder. A winning combination. The self service very good and casual setting perfect!

We were camping close by the gentleman inside the guard desk gave us a clam shack location, which we saw on the way in, but we couldn't remember the name I looked up the location and found this place which we were so happy. It was amazing they gave you a lot for your money. We ordered the whole belly clams also ordered coconut shrimp and the flounder dinner

Monahans is awesome. Yes, it is totally touristy, but I also met a bunch of local standing in line. I have been more than once and there is a really good mix of both. They have a pretty extensive menu with something for everyone. The best part about it is the location. It is right on the water with beautiful views of the ocean. Great overall chill vibe. Picnic tables, and umbrellas, refreshments, and even a nice bathroom. You can order online or in person, and the food comes out pretty quickly. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. The flounder was perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back.

Yummy fish reuben and lobster rolls. We ordered takeout. I would love to try the seaside tables once it gets a bit warmer.

Ask the Community - Monahan's Clam Shack

What is the difference between red, white, and clear clam chowder?

All clam chowders start as a clear broth. You would add tomatoes to make if a red chowder or cream to make it white.

Rating: 4.3 Came to…read morethe place for lunch with family and friends. We reserved an outside tent for the lunch. It's a nice restaurant located right by the ocean in Narraganset. Complimentary valet parking available along with street parking. Once we got there we were directed to the outside tent seatings. Looks like they have a theme for each one and one we were at was winter themed. Inside was nice and cozy and was quite warm. Once we got seated we looked at the menu and placed order for some drinks and appetizers. We got some oysters and prime rib cheese egg rolls. They were both delicious. Oysters were fresh. I got a non alcoholic drink the country road which was fruity and refreshing. I ended up getting lobster mac and cheese. Lots of lobster meat and cheesy macaronis with bread crumb was tasty. Service was excellent and waiter was very attentive and came to check in multiple times. Overall it's a nice spot for nicer meal. Price is on the higher side but food was pretty good. Outside seating was $100 per group and for 3 hours so not too bad. Downside was that ventilation was poor so it was pretty hot inside and only way to cool down was to keep the door propped open but it was windy day so door kept banging and the next group was doing the same thing. Probably a good idea to put a window on the door or something. Some of the tables were also pretty wobbly which was a but annoying.

I'm a tough critic when it comes to food, and they get no notes from me. Every dish was a standout. I've never heard of a scallop roll before, but I want 3 more of them right now. And the lobster grilled cheese will forever hold a special place in my foodie heart. Awesome job guys! Highly, highly recommended!

The party was held outdoors in their pretty yard under a tent. Shuckin Truck was an absolute hit! They set up the outdoor raw bar...clams (littlenecks), oysters, and shrimp on ice, in a very attractive manner. The table was manned by a charming "shucker". There were an assortment of passed hors d'oeuvres which included lobster grilled cheese lobster triangles...these were indescribably delicious. Everyone was oohing and aahing over these. I also loved the smoked salmon on toast and the small cups of really tasty clam chowder. All the appetizers were incredibly delicious although I would say the lobster grilled cheese was the biggest hit. All of the staff were polite and friendly. After the appetizer round, the lobster rolls came out and they were simply spectacular. They were true New England lobster rolls on toasted square edged (this is key) frankfurter buns, and absolutely stuffed with chunks of delicious lobster meat that had been lightly dressed with mayo. Those rolls were out of this world, deliciously prepared and very generously filled with sweet lobster meat. They also served fabulous fish tacos. For the non-seafood eaters of which there were none at this party, they served a pulled pork taco which was spicy and delicious. The portions were generous and the food just kept on coming out. While there was plenty of additional food at this party from other vendors as well as some homemade additions, Shuckin' Truck was my favorite part of the overall feast. Great job! I would not hesitate to hire them for a party or to seek out the food truck wherever it was parked!
