Stopped by Jim's Dock on a gorgeous weekday afternoon a few months back, and it was such a treat! The relaxed, beachy vibe made it the perfect setting for a laid-back meal. Since it was a quieter day, we got to pick almost any seat we wanted--talk about prime waterfront views! Our server was awesome--super funny and easygoing, which only added to the good vibes. Quick note: it's BYOB, so plan accordingly if you need a beveragino. I went with their signature fish and chips, and it was a winner. The fish was coated in a crispy cornflake dredge that hit all the right notes--crunchy perfection. The fries were nothing to write home about. On the other hand, the calamari appetizer? RATING: 2.33/5 This restaurant is wildly overpriced and seems to attract most of its customers based on the atmosphere rather than the quality of the food. I ordered the poke bowl, and quite frankly, it was absolutely disgusting. The fish didn't taste fresh, the flavors were completely off, and I couldn't finish it. A friend ordered the shrimp plate and was served only five shrimp, all of which were severely overcooked, alongside cold fries. Considering the price, the food was nothing short of insulting. To make matters worse, the bathroom doesn't even lock. It's awkwardly located, and instead of fixing a basic privacy issue, the restaurant apparently relies on employees to warn other customers not to open the door while it's occupied. That's unacceptable. The only positive thing I can say is that the service was fine. Overall, this place charges premium prices for poor food and overlooks even the most basic details. I was nervous after reading the reviews but came in for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised! Our waitress was friendly and attentive enough. Food was good! Clam cakes had huge clams in them and tasty! Clam chowder was thick, hot and full of clams and potatoes. A big serving of lobster salad in my lobster roll. Tuna was great and my friend enjoyed the shrimp tacos. I love the dockside deck you eat on - and the family friendly atmosphere! We will be back! read more

As a couple - we ordered two orders of blackened swordfish tacos and clam chowder with 1/2 doz oysters. Setting was relaxing and scenic - oysters and soup were great. Service was friendly and efficient. The tacos were just not good - no evidence that fish was blackened - very bland and tasteless sauce and the taco shells were not fresh. If you are in the South County / Point Judith / Galilee area, Jim's Dock is a seafood option on the water. It's a place to relax and to order grilled scallops, mussels and fish & chips. The convenient location of Jim's Dock makes it easy to reach by car. If you want to experience fast service, you should go to this place. Our waitress Anna was a delight, very - sweet and very attentive. A nice asset to the restaurant. - Fish and Chips - The fish was nicely fried and brown, but the overall flavor profile was bland...... the fries were not crispy at all, they were mushy and flat...not good at all........tasted and looked like the ones you would get in a cheap supermarket frozen food aisle. Other reviews from recent guests corroborate my feedback on the POOR QUALITY OF THE FRIES. Bad decision from their management to go with the CHEAP ones....To save a few pennies per plate with cheaper fries.....you have lost tons of customers.....Both of the plates with fries on our table left most of them un-eaten.... - Fluke sandwich - Again the fish was nicely fried, but the fries were not crispy. Really poor fries....Horrible fries.... - Mahi Mahi tacos - Fish pieces were nicely seasoned, but barely not veggies, no lettuce, no shredded veggies at all.. It was ok. Ambiance of this place is a dead giveaway on how it was going to be. Had so much potential with the location and it wasn't executed. We got dirty cups for water and it was just not a good meal. I got the bacon cheeseburger and it was raw and the bacon was also raw. One of the worst meals ever and I hate to be rude it just was. Service was mediocre at best. This was the worst customer service i've ever experienced. the owner is HORRIBLE literally the most miserable woman i've ever met. We got there at 11am because that's when it opened online, and as we're ordering the food with a really nice employee, the owner LANA interrupts us and says "they're not getting anything we're not open until 11:30" so i said oh it said online it was 11 and she says "online lied". um okay?? just rude for no reason as if i'm not putting money in ur pockets. anyway we were offered by the employee to put it our orders and then pick them up later and we were like okay so we came back at 11:45 cus why would food take more than 15 minutes... the food didn't come out until 12:15. r u serious? we started to walk in to pay and the owner yelled at us to get out... WHAT?? I THOUGHT U WERE OPEN ?? she told us we had to wait outside... huh? we talked to the hosts at the stand, 2 young teens and they APOLOGIZED FOR THEIR BOSS FOR BEING SO RUDE AND TOLD US THEYVE BEEN WORKINF HERE FOR A MONTH AND HAVENT BEEN PAYED... Came here after another restaurant lost power. Will never go back. Told us they could fit us in with no reservation which was awesome... went downhill quick. We were sat in last table by people bringing in fish for a competition- fine except the restaurant was otherwise empty, so no ambiance and people coming up with off leash dogs, or generally shouting/yelling plus staff coming by to complain and congregate. Just not the best seat for a family with little kids especially with 10 other empty tables. Get that it's literally a dock, so let that go. Prices were $5-10 more on every item that the more fine dining restaurant we just left offered. Cups were dirty (which tons of reviews have said here) Food came and giving it 1 star because burgers were good, but my wife's chowder had boiled bacon in it vs cooked and some raw, and had 2 clams in entire bowl. Worst past was an unleashed dog kept coming up to us and the woman was scream at it to get away from our table and constantly run to our table to get it. Final straw was when men started smoking cigars and blowing smoke over us, our kids and our food. It was so disgusting we stopped eating. Luckily the kids were done eating so we removed them from the situation. Had to chase the waitress down for 10 min to pay check (asked three people for it first). She was otherwise good. I loved that we ate food on a dock above water! The views were great and the BYOB concept was pretty cool as well. They also have live lobster and fish- so it's as fresh as it gets! I have been going to Jim's Dock for a long time. I am sorry to say that the quality of the food has gone way down. The stuffed quahog had no quahogs in it and was extremely bland. The lobster roll had too much mayonnaise and the lobster meat was rubbery. Even the French fries were poor quality - undercooked and no seasoning. I would say the best part was BYOB. Also, I found the staff to be very rude when I asked to switch tables. The restroom was out of order so they send you to another building and the restroom was disgusting. We went to Jim's last year, sat on the desk, and had a wonderful fried clam dinner. We went back today and that was not the case at all. The clams were not fresh or someone in the process beat them to a pulp. All covered in poop. The batter was more grease than not. The cole slaw hasd no flavor and not much dressing until I got to the middle. The "mashed potatoes" were not. They looked to be mostly thickening with a few potatoes thrown in and not at all edible. And they were not. We did say something as we wanted to point out the food. Not get out of paying or being a pain. They were all certainly nice enough but not sure the point was truly taken. We won't be returning. It also looked like they were packing up for the winter or they are going out of business on the inside dining rooms. read more

Jim's Dock is a delicious seafood restaurant with the best view of the Block Island Ferry! The fried clams are sweet and perfectly fried in just the right amount of batter. The Summer Salad with fresh scallops is a perfect summer meal with fresh fruits including watermelon, blueberries and strawberries. The waitstaff is personable, knowledgeable and very efficient! Food was okay. Service was awful, short staffed, cleaned the "kids" table before we were done eating and asked the kids to leave the table while they cleaned. Not many options for non seafood lovers, our total bill came to 250 dollars, we had 200 cash and asked to put the rest on a card. Nobody told us there was a service charge, but when we got our credit card slip there was 63 dollars charged to the card! We questioned the extra 13 dollars and the server told us there was a service charge when you pay with a credit card. We asked why it was over a 20% service charge and they said it's based on the total amount of the bill. We question why this would be a thing, the credit company isn't going to charge them on the total amount of the bill, just the amount that was charged, so because you can't figure out basic math you were going to over charge us? Ate here today with a friend. We shared clam cakes (ok but why are the clams always so chewy?) and a fluke sandwich. The fluke was mild and tender. The batter is corn flakes. Jim's has a gorgeous spot on the water. Great place to enjoy food, chatter and ferry traffic. read more

We sat in the corner table of the deck and enjoyed the Forrest Gump style fishing boats coming and going past. This place was a perfect alternative to the heavily touted and pricy Oyster place a mile up the road (plus, the required valet parking there was a complete turn-off!). I just had lunch of a dozen oysters taken from the waters in this location. These were made be the freshest and coldest oysters I have ever had. Our wait person was named Lock. She was great. The dock-restaurant was BYOB, so grab a couple cold beers to go with your lunch in the sun. read more

We love this place! We come for the atmosphere. It is rarely busy, it's byob, it's right on the water... the location is just great. The food is...less than great. There are a few menu items you usually can't go wrong with. I would definitley recommend sticking to clam cakes and chowder or a burger. Other than that we haven't had many good experiences food wise. Definitely do NOT get the blackened fish tacos. They're high priced ($17 for 3 tacos) and they absolutely are not blackened. On top of that they're incredibly spicy to the point where they're unbearable to eat. Don't get me wrong with my taco rant here, we do love Jim's dock, and the service is usually very good. Great little place off the road with lotsa decking for outside seating to watch the boats coming in/out. It's BYOB so come prepared with your libations of choice. The outside deck was pretty busy so I opted for a interior table by the water which was fabulous since there was an excellent panorama of the Marina. I ordered a dozen oysters. I think it was likely bc they just reopened after quarantine- but- small menu. Menu had scallops, salad, Burgers, fish and chips, fish sandwich and chicken fingers. They ran out of burgers, all white fish, hot dogs, and root beer. Choose salad or chicken fingers please. Very pricey. Amazing location and view from the deck though. On the water and lots of boats. I love Jim's dock more and more each time I go. It's become more than just a place to eat, it's a place to experience. I've grown to love this restaurant and feel at home here. The staff provides amazing service and the woman who manages the place is a gem. The view of the boats is breath taking and you can watch as the Block Island Ferry passes to and from. Now let's talk grub. They have a winning combination of seafood dishes and they are all good. You can go from fish and chips to clams. The specials change daily and are based on what comes off the boat. These are usually not fired fish and are freshly grilled. It's a BYOB establishment and it's very popular to bring your beverage of choice. I'm not a drinker and it's still an amazing place.
