We haven't been here in years and we decided to take our 2 year old grandson because we knew he would love the show during dinner. The food was good and not reflective at all of this 2-star rating, and the chef put on a great show! My husband decided to hand the chef a tip when he was done cooking and the waitress gave my husband a very dirty look afterwards and for the remainder of the meal she awkwardly hovered over our table. When dinner was over, she handed my husband the bill and told us that she saw us give the chef a tip and wanted us to know that the servers have to give the cook staff 10% of their sales and that in the future all tips should only go to the servers at the end of the meal and not directly to the chefs. (Clearly she must have assumed that we were not going to be tipping her) Needless to say, we were both appalled by her audacity because we had every intent of tipping her the standard 20% of the bill as well. We have never encountered a server so blatantly insulting and petty towards a customer. I really hope this serves as a reminder to the management to review customer service etiquette with their wait staff so that behavior like this from their employees does not continue to reflect on or damage their reputation. read more

I recommend the scallop and filet mignon dish. (Sea/land?) With fried rice! Although they do start you with a soup and salad this meal is extremely filling i warn you! The staff are hilarious and talented, they definetly put on a show. I wouldnt recommend more than 8 guests we had 10 and it was way too crammed. The poke is delicious aswell! read more

First time here, went for lunch , I ordered the beef julienne & my wife ordered the lunch duet , both came with veggies and fried rice , it was very fun seeing the food being prepared right in front of us and our chef Rick was very entertaining , the best part was when he was spinning the egg before using it to make our fried rice with it and our food was cooked to perfection , the steak was very tender and the side dipping sauces were very good , can't wait to go back read more

This was my first time at Benihana. I've been to a couple of Hibachi grills in the past, and frankly they helped me keep a low expectation. I am so glad I didn't ride the hype, because everything was pretty good! Apart from the fact that they took a long time to prepare the meal course, everything tasted very good. I particularly liked their chateaubriand, which is a tenderloin fillet sweeter than fillet mignon. Pair that with hot sake, and you've got yourself a nice, classy experience. I wonder why they don't do any pork. Pork jowl/neck area, also called hangjeongsal in Korean, would go perfectly with the other meats here. But Benihana was great to begin with, so I digress. Rocky Aoki was to my knowledge the first to do teppanyaki style cooking with a bit of a show. There have been many imitators to the original and frankly some of the imitators are better. But it is always cool to go back to the roots of the whole style of cooking. The food was darn good I had the steak and chicken with chicken fried rice. The vegetables were cooked to perfection as was the meat. Since this is a communal table my 5 proved to be a challenge for the chef. First my grandson has dairy allergies, I have shrimp allergies and my daughter in law has become a total vegan to go with my vegitable son. Now there were three other people at the table who did not have these issues. So the chef had to basically cook three different ways at the same time. Omar did a fine job of making sure everything was prepared to our particular needs. For instance he cooked my meal before the shrimp ever hit the grill. When the meal was ended Omar went over to the other couple and said he was sorry they were served last. I had thoughts of buying them supper for putting up with our challenges. But then I came to my senses and did not offer. :) One major note there is no vegan or vegetarian option on the menu. So two of the meals were sort of ala carte. This place was great for a Sunday lunch with the family. I was actually a little worried to go here given some of the recent reviews but so glad we did and it was a great time. If there were any gaps during this pandemic, this place rectified all of them and are running on all cylinders now. Seating - Our family of 3 were given our own table and own teppanyaki chef. This is great during Covid times and our chef was very courteous and efficient which anyone with a toddler can appreciate. I noticed several other families were afforded the same luxury of their own tables/chef also. Amazing job everyone! Food - Our chef did all the hits (e.g. Onion volcano, beating fried rice heart, spinning eggs, etc.) and our toddler was so entertained as were we. Our family at this time prefers lunch outings and it's so great that Benihana was not only open but had amazing service. Very few teppanyaki restaurants are open for lunch. We're long time hibachi diners, and have probably been to about a dozen different hibachi restaurants in several cities. My last time at this Benihana was many years ago, when it was still at its old location on Dundee, but we thought we'd give it a try today to see how it compared to our other experiences. Overall it was very good -- our drinks were good, and served fairly promptly. Our service was good, although nothing remarkable. And our food was excellent. Two of us had the Benihana Trio (jumbo shrimp, filet mignon, and chicken), and the shrimp were especially amazing. Plus, as is often not the case at hibachi restaurants, the chef took extra care to truly cook the steak to medium rare, which is hard when it's in such small chunks. Our third had the filet and scallops, and said they were very good and flavorful. The mushrooms with the steak were also a nice touch that we don't usually get at hibachi places. In addition to the steak, some other highlights: The size of the shrimp was impressive. The shrimp served in the shrimp appetizer were good sized, and the ones in our entree were more like prawns. The zucchini, which is not my favorite vegetable (Japanese? What happened to the bean sprouts and bamboo shoots that always used to be served at hibachi restaurants? When did zucchini become Japanese?), was cut in long, flat strips which he grilled thoroughly. Our table-mates asked for garlic butter to be added, which we thought sounded great, so we did, too. Between that and the char-grilling, it was delicious! The chicken fried rice was also great. I read another review that said the upcharge blindsided them, but there's always an upcharge for fried rice, and especially if it has meat. If this was a concern, they should have asked when ordering. We also asked our chef to add garlic butter to our steak, rice, and chicken, and it made them even better than they were by themselves. For those who felt the food was bland, maybe try doing this the next time. Between the garlic butter, and the sauces, there was nothing bland about ours. I tried the green tea ice cream for dessert, and it was lovely -- it truly tasted like green tea, and wasn't too sweet. I'm not big on overly sweet desserts, so this was perfect. Will we be back? The overall experience was similar to other hibachi restaurants (the requisite "show" with the chef throwing his tools around, the onion volcano, and tossing a few items onto his hat and into his pocket), the food was better, so worth the fact that it's a bit pricier than some similar hibachi places, and the Benihana decor is much more authentic than most. Amazing service! literally every time my wife and I passed by, I wanted to go in, and finally after being unsatisfied with the food at the theater, I did. The owner personalized our experience by giving us some background on the business and some complimentary Korean canned juices while we waited for our chicken. Here, you have the option of sitting at the grill or in the other section for sushi. If you dine on the grill side, you'll be seated at communal tables and get to watch everyone's food be prepared. Our dragon roll took a while to come out (did they have to run to the coast and catch some eel?). The chef didn't look like he wanted to be here at all. Muffled talk I couldn't hear a single word he say. First grilled some zucchini, it was ok, just cooked zucchini chunks. Then the onions I got were still raw, just a little tasteless scoop of raw onion. Didn't like the vegetables at all. The fried rice was tasteless, absolutely tasteless. I ordered filet and scallops. The combo is $41, yet I got 4 scallops. 4.... Then it took a long time for my fillet to be done. Outside was burned with a few sad pieces of over cooked mushrooms..... the portion is so small and it's absolutely not worth the money. Then it took them about 15 mins to get the ice cream. We made a reservation at 8:15, arrived at 8:25 because traffic was heavy. before we arrived i attempted to call them to tell them we'd be a bit late. They didnt answer the phone. when we walked in, the man at the front was extremely rude to me. I told him the reservation was under Maddie and it was for 8:15 and that I tried to get ahold of them To tell them id be late. The host said "well I took your name off because its not 8:15" we walked out and decided to go to outback where at least the service will be decent. read more

The Benihana experience is gone. I used to love going to this style restaurant. Sure it was pricy but this was like dinner theatre so it didn't matter. Those days have passed. The food is good and you still get to watch them cook, but there was no flare. The chef just cooked the food there was no engagement. They did the customary utensils flip and onion train but it was done with no soul. It felt like the chef needed to do x y and then z. Then in to the next. It was just food, it was not fun. In the end, I would save my money next time and go somewhere else where the staff is still excited to have a job and a talent and wants to be there. Poor experience read more

Great place for family and large group! Because someone can get the hibachi scallop, another the shrimp, then steak... and share hehe. The food is pretty rich as they're generous with the butter (especially that garlic butter for the fried rice... but I guess that's why it's so delicious haha)... but everything's good and cooked well (no tough steak here). I especially enjoyed the scallops and shrimp, and my parents said the steak had a good texture. Yakisoba is good too, but I think their rolls are meh for the price, since the filling is crab meat for like $12 ish. Hibachi is their special and as it also comes with soup and fried rice, it won't disappoint. (However, the soup wasn't that great, wish they just went back to their miso) Also, lunch special's where it's at. read more
