It's Hibachi. They won't seat you until your whole party is present. This place is clean and they're friendly. But really you pay for the experience, right? Our chef was pretty great. He put on quite a show. So impressive. You can tell he works on his routine. The food was okay. Some things were a little salty but overall good. And there was plenty. My mom and I shared a meal and my husband had his own AND some of ours. There is a lot for parking.

Our cook was Augusto. All food was cooked just right and delicious! He was efficient and entertaining.

This is still our favorite place for hibachi we just wish there was more of a show for the kids like some other small places. We will keep going back because we love the food quality and the family bonding while here

Came here for our anniversary and it was amazing. From the mushroom onion soup, to the hibachi show that my daughter absolutely loved, to the delicious food that was prepared by out chef, Omar, to not having to ever all got drinks, they were amazing. The service is so good that you never have to ask for seconds. The ambiance is calm and inviting.

My picky eater likes the Onion Soup and the Blue Banzai mocktail! Total win.

We haven't been to this location before, but it was just as good an experience as always. I personally love the scallops and the filet. On a huge positive note, my picky eater ate all of his shrimp! They do have great shrimp here. I also enjoyed the Blue Banzai margaria which was delicious and my picky eater got the same but a mocktail. Finished it. The show is always fun and funny. The chef's personality is great and his cooking skill was excellent. Perfect Med Rare steak. Everything was cut well and obviously served hot. My wife had fillet and chicken and my daughter had the fillet and lobster tail. There was some sharing going on which works out perfectly. I recommend getting an early reservation because all these get really busy and it takes a while with all the orders and people to cook for. We sat at 3:30 and left at 6 to give you an idea. It was a wonderful time though.

We decided to come in to use our $30 birthday reward. It is restricted to Monday-Thursday dinners and must print certificates. The place had a few groups on 2 tables when we arrived and we were the 3rd table to be set up. After us there were 3 more tables of customers, decent amount for a Monday evening. We ordered the scallops, shrimp, steak and seafood diablo- noodle dish with seafood. There was a decent amount of food, got the soup, salad, shrimp appetizers- a few pieces of small shrimp and then our main courses. The steak was done decently, not overcooked. The scallops and shrimp were definitely overcooked and could have been removed from the tabletop earlier especially for the size of them. The scallops definitely shrunk because they were overcooked. We got the regular white rice instead of the fried rice. Since we were celebrating birthdays we also got the ice cream for dessert, they come out and sing to you in English and Japanese. And we also got a table picture a nice keepsake for the evening. All in all a decent experience at Benihana, definitely on the pricier end so worth the birthday coupon.

Do they put on a show/do tricks while they are cooking?

Yes they do it with the food while cooking. Have your camera ready for the flaming onion. It's like a volcano

Are there any vegetarian options at Benihana?

There isn't a preset vegetarian option available. You can order a vegetarian meal though. You need to pass on the onion soup which is made of chicken and beef. You can order side vegetables a la carte, vegetable fried rice (remove egg to make vegan)…

The host and staff were super welcoming despite being a little frazzled as it seemed to get busy all at one time. There is limited seating where the boats are. The sushi chefs were super chatty and attentive to made-to-order sushi requests. The sushi was good. The Nigiri pieces were super thin but long. The San Fransisco crunch was a favorite. It was surprisingly sweet and crunchy. There was a side dish of a sweet chilli fried shrimp that wasn't on the menu but was quite tasty! It wasn't super spicy but definitely left a little heat in your mouth. Overall a positive experience.

Across the parking lot is Taste of Tokyo and that's how we ended there. Never having dined at Taste of Tokyo, I didn't know it was a kaiten-zushi -- conveyor belt sushi but with boats --restaurant, that was a nice surprise. It was pretty full around the sushi bar and we waited for about 10 minutes to get seated. I really enjoy the convenience of plucking off plates and eating what you want. They had a lot of variety, from sashimi to potstickers to special rolls to taiyaki. I did ask for Saba (mackerel), and they gave me three nigiri (they said one was on the house) -- it was fantastic. This seemed like a fave place among the locals who addressed the sushi chefs by name. I appreciated that there were many different offerings. One such was raw sashimi grade scallops -- I wasn't that adventurous. Nearer the end they had torched salmon which was so buttery and melt in the month. I would have had more but we were getting full. They tallied up our plates -- 13 of them -- and we paid the bill. Very enjoyable, a little out of our way although I'd be happy to come again. I really enjoyed the novelty of the sushi boats.

Came in once and was greeted by a salty individual who looked more upset that I was eating in rather than taking out. I was literally the only one eating there on a Friday night which says a lot. I ordered a couple appetizers and three dumplings in, I bit straight down on a frozen one. This means my food was frozen prior to the cook (and owner) actually cooking it, even though he failed to do so. This disgusted me even more and I told the man and he angrily grabbed my dishes, went to the kitchen, and all I could hear is him opening a microwave, slamming the door closed, and then the beeps of him putting in the time before starting it and returning. I did't eat after that and even walked without paying. I unfortunately got food poisoning over the tiny amount of food I did eat. What throws me off is that the restaurant seemed clean. Then again I had no way of seeing how the kitchen looked. I'll never eat here again and I highly recommend you taking this one off your list. UPDATE: I had ment to update this prior to now but honestly after my experience, I wanted nothing to do with this place let alone thinking of it. However, I thought I should return and mention that I actually wound up chipping two teeth that day on the frozen dumplings. I was told this at the dentist the same week and I had to have them grind down and smooth the areas affected which was costly. You only get one original set of adult teeth. Keep that in mind if you do go here and try to eat.

They are very kind and go above and beyond to make your experience a great one. I ordered the sweet potato roll and added spicy tuna. The roll usually comes tempura, battered and with avocado already which most places don't even do. The quality of the fish is phenomenal and fresh and the whole roll put together is great. Another spectacle at this location is the chocolate most dessert. They make it every week and it is a colder version of a three chocolate layered Ferrero Rocher. The side salad is fresh and comes with a ginger glaze, and the miso soup is a perfect balance of savory with the included toppings. Overall everything on this menu is a must try and the ambience, plus the service plus the food makes this an above and beyond place for the suburbs of Chicago. I also met the owner, Michael. He was very kind and one of the things that resonated with me was that he said I want to keep things the way they are. He did mention that the chocolate mousse dessert might come off the menu, which I advised and highly recommended not to do. It is homemade and wonderful and a fan favorite, whatever you do, please continue making that one item.
