My overall visit was pleasant, i stopped in for lunch last week, AFTER the lunch rush. I sat at the bar, you know quick easy turn around service. Wrong, sat down only to not be greeted by what looked like "the manager" he finally asked what i wanted to drink, i asked him something about the menu he didn't respond - he and the bartender both standing behind the bar as if they were too busy. I waited another 15 min to take order, mind you this my lunch so I'm trying to get in and out. Order taken - asked questions about menu she acted (bartender) like she didn't understand or like she cared. Asked me after placing order soup or salad. Salad of course, she brings out SOUP, after she asked me TO MY FAce what would you have. Okay small mistake. Get the food, she sits it down no silverware. So again I'm just sitting there. Lunch is a hour, I'm not at work like you are so no, i can't just sit and pass time. Again, the bar wasn't busy AT all. After i got my food ONE person came to pick up food, ONE. I'm still not getting service, i asked for a Togo box 3 times, THREE! got that, finally ( they took my payment quick though) i asked for sticks to have to go, i never got those. I literally had to leave the bar & go into the table area to FIND someone to get me something to eat with! This is unacceptable for a paying customer. Horrible experience!! First time visit to B. and date night for me and my husband to celebrate my Birthday. Off to a bad start with no one at the hostess stand. Finally someone arrived after I wandered farther into the restaurant. I explained that we did not have a reservation since it was a Tuesday night and I did not know they would be this busy, it being my first time there. They said OK but it would be a 25 to 30 minute wait. Then a few minutes later we were told we could sit in the sushi area without a wait. Had to sit at a dirty table and wait and wait for it to be bussed. Told the waitperson at time of order it was my Birthday. Told her my husband eats vegan - no suggestions or guidance!! He asked for an empty glass but never got it. Our entrees were inedible and mine was left on my plate but no comment from wait staff as to How was it. Entree was to include green tea which never arrived. Nothing done to celebrate my Birthday - not even a greeting from anyone or an acknowledgement. Paid the check and left with again no one in the hostess area to say anything to us as we left. Very cold place, poor decor, BAD food! I have no reason to do anything but present an honest opinion but if you're in Irving and you want Japanese food, go to Jinbeh on Las Colinas Blvd. - I'll be back there soon, believe me!! read more

Been here many times and almost all the time the manger/staff seems to be stingy with all the diff sauces. To make it worse last time after waiting hours to get the table and waiting 1 hour after the lady took the order, the manger comes out saying no sauce is available. The happy hour is the best!!!! I have been going here faithfully for a few years and I simply love it. It's crowded at times, but I've only had bad service once, which the manager comped my meal for. The sushi bar is quaint and intimate and it's a fun place to go for after work cocktails and sushi. Don't forget about the $2 sake. YUM! read more

I recieved my certificate for a complimentary birthday dinner from benihana.com (sign up is free) and chose the Benihana of Las Colinas because it is a few blocks away from my mother- in-law who agreed to babysit. Arrived for a 7:45 reservation with my hubby on a Tuesday night and noticed (though not surprised) that the restaurant was only half full. I could not help but relax as my entire impression of the restaurant was that of quiet intimacy which is a far cry from the loud and over crowded Benihana of Dallas. We were seated right away with two other young couples like ourselves and ordered our drinks. I decided to go with the Mai Tai while the hubby went with a Bud Light as usual, then we made small talk with the other guests surrounding us. Everyone gets their drink while sip my water with lemon in anticipation but finally I call my softspoken waitress over to ask where my drink is. Waitress apologizes profisely and says it is on the way and I know she did not mean to but I am pretty sure she forgot to submit my order to the bartender but I shrug it off because she gets it to me a few minutes later. The drink was delicious and I really enjoyed the dark rum which is something that I normally do not go for since I am a tequila girl all the way! I scarf down my house salad with Ginger dressing, and taste the onion soup which reminds me of beef broth and is delicious but lukewarm so I swap with my partner for his salad in exchange for my soup.The chef serves us the fried rice we ordered and it was just as good as I remembered but I do wish I had put some extra soy sauce and garlic butter on mine to give it an extra kick. Note: Benihana Garlic butter makes everything delicious but more on that later. Sadly I am not a seafood eater so I can not give details on many of the important menu items but I ordered the Filet Mignon which was cooked medium as requested and very tender! When I order my steak I always have the chef add teriyaki sauce on the grill just before serving then I request garlic butter and melt some into the sweet juice and the combination is just amazing! When I ordered my steak this way the two other girls at the table requested the same and both just raved about how they were addicted and would only order theirs that way now! So remember: teriyaki mixed with garlic butter makes for tasty steak!! So everyone is happily enjoying their dinner when my hinny leans in and says," Hey the blonde on your left looks just like Ana Farris" so Ido I double take and tell er this and she of course says that she gets that all the tine and is flattered that we didn't say se looked likethe housebunmy since she gets more offended by that( if you have seen the movie you know she dresses like a playmate in provocative clothing) and I reassure her that se looks like the actress because of her features and not her choice of clothing! I order my Green Tea ice cream for dessert which I recommend if you love green tea and we wait for our check but it never comes... I am thinking oh no our waitress has done it again what the heck?! So I ask her were my bill is and she quietly says, oh the couple right there took care of your bill.....!?! Yesssss After all the good deeds and big tips the good karma is coming my way ! Ana Faris lookalike and her husband paid for our entire $70 meal and we don' t even know them or their first names! WOULD GIVE 0 stars if I could!!! TERRIBLE !!!! From waitors on up to managers, both managers are pathetic excuses for customer service leaders. I dined in Tuesday evening for happy hour after a very stressful day with my sick 3y.o. After 2 visits to the ER within that day, when my husband arrived home I immediately escaped to "happy hour" because I thought it would life my spirits. I seated myself at the sushi bar & waited to be greeted by my waitor. There was only 1 guy working that entire section even though it was packed due to the specials they run during the 5-7p hours. I only ordered 2 sides of fried rice &!a sushi roll. I watched other guests becoming upset due to this guy's lack of attentiveness and I soon experienced the same for myself. My sushi sat atop the bar for 5 minutes before he actually delivered it to me & it took a total of 25 minutes for him to bring my rice. It was very hard, almost in edible & they charge 1.50$ extra for shrimp in the rice (there appeared to only be 1 measley shrimp cut up on top of 1 of my rice orders). I voiced my complaint to him & he didn't care, so I asked for Togo boxes & the ticket. He brought it after another 10 minutes & I had to ask 3x for a spoon before he actually brought one. I wrote my concerns on my customer copy receipt & on the way out hand delivered it to the manager. I waited 2 days to see if they'd contact me but no one did so I called the restaurant. The asst mgr apologized for this & sent out a 20$ gift card. Yesterday I called this location & placed a Togo order for 6 dude orders of fried rice with that same manager, when I have my name & number his tone changed as though he remembered who I was & felt "some type of way" because of it. I asked for teriyaki sauce to be put it with my order, he tried to charge me $.50 for each container. I expressed to him that I've never been charge for it at their establishment, he didn't care & still tried to charge me so I cancelled the order & called the Plano location. They told me they never charge for teriyaki sauce & it was amassing that Irving's location did. This place does not care about consumers & the quality & portion of pod for the money is severely inadequate. I will not ever be patronizing them again! read more

I went to this location for dinner and I had a great time! I had reservations so it didn't take too long for us to be seated at the table. I will say that the chef took a little while to get to our table...but in the meantime the waitress kept us busy with the soup, salad and drinks. We were in the area this past weekend. The drinks are overpriced for what you get, but the food was good. They don't give you as much food as they used to, but it was good. Sarah, our chef did a good job. We had a child at the table which made it all worth it. The menu was also a little overpriced and with a tip made it fairly expensive. Other than Sarah, the other servers seemed to try to push us out. It wasn't like it was that crowded at the time of day we went. Pedro and Lu make the best rice ever they know the right amount of seasoning to put on it! I decided to have the hibachi steak for the first time and Lu didn't disappoint! We went here last night to celebrate my sister's birthday. Our waiter and cook were amazing very attentive and precise. However, the host is out of touch with reality. She didn't know what she was doing. I made a reservation for 7 and called earlier to see if we could push back the time. She said how is 6:15.....I was really confused. At first I thought she said 715, but she corrected me and said 6 15. I was like if I can't make it for 7, what makes you think I'm going to make it for 615. She realized how stupid that sounded and suggested to write on our reservation that we might be late. When she brought us to the table there was only enough room for 8 people and there was 11 of us. She said that the cook was only going to one table and that we had to stay there and then we could move some people to the other side. We haven't been to this Benihana location ever, but went tonight for a Birthday Dinner -Party of 8. Arrived early -host n hostess cheerfully took cake we brought n labeled it. We had no problem having a drink in the bar until rest of our party arrived, then were immediately seated. Server was friendly and quick. Chef was so easy going, funny and accommodating, even though we were less than attentive as we were busy chatting! Food was wonderful! Manager checked on us and chatted. Server delivered cake n took great pictures. Our bill was less than steakhouse we visited a couple of days ago and that's counting the drinks! He has god given talent for cooking. Lot of patience and desire to cook great food. Scallops we cooked to perfection, so was lobster. He hit it out of ballpark with fried rice. Totally awesome. Went to my first hibachi here, food was good and chef Lu made it worth the wait. He is a personable chef and skilled at what he does. Quite a flirt with the ladies but they enjoyed it, my only gripe about here is the waiter who forgot to check the tables drinks and who didn't bring them back until the end of the meal. So the family seated with us asked for a manager and inquired about the delay, and we were told our food order was lost (Really??). And it doesn't matter what time of day you go there's always an "hour and half" wait to order food to go or get a table. Even though it takes them less than 5 minutes to seat you. If I could give zero stars I would! Such a shady ran business and team. Just posting so people in the Irving/Las Colinas, TX area are aware to never stop at this location. I had left my cell phone and called to verify they found it and was told it was there but I couldn't pick it up until the reopened for dinner service. When I arrived at 5, the GM had given my phone out to a random man without verifying any information. I've been able to pinpoint the location of my phone and now I'm trying to get this issue resolved. No more the beautiful Japnese music to create ambiance, and the hostesses made us feel like we needed to be thankful for their attention in this empty restaurant. Because we were awaiting 2 members of our party we waited in the front (lounge area?). The bar tender couldn't be bothered with taking payment nor help his wait staff with their drink orders. Our waitress, though nice, seemed overwhelmed and incapable of a smooth service and our chef seemed brand new. He did however prepare a tasty meal. We waited over 40 minutes to receive our check due to the waitress figuring out separating drinks from the meal for the two business men seated with us. I would love to write about how the food was so good and the entertainment provided at the Teppanyaki was splendid but unfortunately I can't. Here is why - I never made it to the dinner table along with my family. Let me tell you a story that will help you understand why. This is more about their customer service and how they handle bad situations so I'm hoping this will be helpful for others. This should in no way deter you from going there if you wish to. These are some facts...and my opinion of a 1 star review. Called in to make a dinner reservation for a specific time for dinner on a Friday night. The person confirming the reservation kept repeating the reservation time 15 minutes prior to the one requested and one last time I confirmed the dinner reservation. Reservation was confirmed for 5 people for Hibachi. Showed up at the reservation, possibly 9 minutes later than what the reservation was confirmed by them. So I checked in at the reservation desk, the hostess said, she sees the reservation and will be able to go ahead and get us seated next and not a few seconds later another hostess, or what I presumed was a hostess, in a rude tone decided to say, that we can't be seated as we missed our reservation time and will need to be put in as walk-ins even though we had a reservation. She insisted that if you are 10 minutes late, your reservation is cancelled. (NOT MENTIONED AT THE TIME WHEN I CALLED IN TO MAKE THE RESERVATION...must have been expecting me to read minds over the telephone). ASked her how long would that, and clearly stated, We will get you seated in 20 minutes. So me and my family (that consisted of 5 adults and a 4 month old baby) decided to sit down in the waiting area and waited. Right in front of us, we saw people come in get seated down at the table, those that came in with incomplete party members and waited 15 minutes before their total party members came and were sat down at the table (there were 5 total for them too) and so on. I'm not sure how many of them were walk-ins that got seated before us. But let me go on.....So before we realize it's 45 mins past when we came in and still no update from the hostess that decided to cancel our reservation and put us as walk-ins. I finally decided to get up and talk to her and asked her about the 20 minutes that she said we will be seated in and she responded in a very rude tone like I had asked her for a free meal. You are walk-ins and we will get you when we can. We need to seat the reservations first. And when asked how long will that be, she said I don't know in a tone that seemed to get demeaning as the time passed. I finally requested to talk to the manager as I thought that may be a little better to resolve the issue or find a better solution. After a few minutes the person that identified himself as the manager decided to come to the front and looked at the computer, talked to the hostess in hushed tones and offered to get us a Sushi Roll and wait another 20-30 minutes more (let me remind you, it's already 1 hour of wait by now past the reservation time) and that's the best he could do. I once again reminded him how long we had already waited and how long he was asking us to further wait despite having a reservation. I clearly told him that if we were told it was going to be a 1.5 hrs wait when we came in for dinner (reservation or not), I would have walked out of there anyways and eaten somewhere else. To which his response was, you will have to wait another 30 minutes or longer if you go somewhere now, so it's best to just wait here. Now that's what I call great customer service to buy a ten dollar item for 1.5 hrs of wait time and for not honoring the reservation. So in all this, not one person uttered a word of apology about how rude they were at the front desk, not admitting their mistake of not mentioning their "10 minutes reservation policy" when I called in for the reservation and for insulting me and family by offering me a 10 dollar item ( when we will be spending close to 250 dollars for dinner) for an unnecessary 1.5 hrs wait. I once gave a presentation to a room full of managers about customer service and I quoted someone "People don't remember days they remember moments" and this will be a moment pretty hard to erase from memory and not share. read more

We've been going to Benihana for 30 years and it is no longer a desirable place to go. The portions are getting smaller and smaller and the "chefs" have no skills or talent. We had a reservation today and waited too long for our table and it was over an hour before we actually got to eat. The price certainly never goes down, but the portions and quality sure have. I went to Benihana's for the first time with my girlfriends. I'd never tasted Hibachi style food. It was such an exciting experience! Charles (Chef Who Dat) was so entertaining and my steak was so tender. It was the best food I've tasted in a long time. I had to personally tip him.
