I went there yesterday for my birthday redemption. I ordered dine-in of filet mignon, miso soup, etc. Also, I ordered hibachi chicken as takeout, but it came out first from the other side chef before my hibachi experience ever got started; not a good start to my experience as I wanted it hot to go near the END of my visit. My steak ended up only being 5 oz. - small and healthier yet meal was filling. Chef Ronaldo was very entertaining - most I had at a visit. The first waitress had trouble organizing the three different party guests' order. My transaction was not completely align with my Friends with Benefits account. My soup was not in my takeout bag so I asked just to eat another there so no spill. This visit ended with a surprise, future $20 off coupon in the shape of an egg. Because I love their daily lunch menu and their special offer, I decided to return for Easter, the following day. I finally bought a gift card with a bonus $10 for limited time use as I was having trouble using my credit card on their front keypad. My credit card company suggested using another keypad which worked. Oh, on holidays, they apparently have a different menu this time in the shape of an egg. Duck theme! How fitting for the occasion! I have been wanting wontons and oh, they had it with duck. My favorites! With interesting chili pineapple sauce. Wow. Had to try the 3 wontons for $16.50. Appetizer was made on the other side of the restaurant and bought to my hibachi table. It was unique with more ingredients like chives. The cheese might have overpowered the duck cubes. Glad I tried them. This chef was only entertaining with the train of onion. Service was not good with only one glass of water. I had to ask about the egg coupon as the hostess seemed very hesitate to pass out "upon my goodbye." Five stars for the food. Four stars for the service. read more

This was the last time my family and I will be eating at this establishment. We had reservations at 7:15pm. Due to the staff being behind we were not seated until almost 8pm. Our waitress was not pleasant to us, but our chef, Ronaldo, was very friendly and he provided great service to us while cooking. Our waitress maybe checked on us twice and that is a generous twice. Before ordering, looking at the menu the prices have massively changed since last coming. The fried rice used to come with the meal without being up-charged an additional $6.50 for each person. I wish this were mentioned to us, but it was not. After finishing up our meal, the waitress came up to us to give us our receipts. One of my family members noticed they were charged wrong and the waitress rudely grabbed the receipt, crumpled it up and walked away with quite an attitude and never came back. It seems another waitress or possibly a manager came to address that it was charged incorrectly. On top of all of this with bad service, increased prices (by a LOT), the establishment is getting very outdated and has things in the waiting area that are completely at a disarray. Tiles completely missing from the walls, sticky tables, this hasn't been updated in over 15 years from what I can remember - other than the menu prices. On top of all of this, there was a very nice family sitting in front of us at another table. They were seated and not even given water for 45 minutes. They were not greeted, nothing. We have a group of ladies that have been getting together monthly so we picked here. We were seated in the bar. The server came over and was very nice. She took our drink order and it went down from there. The drinks took FOREVER to get. There were only 4 other people and it had just opened. One ladies chicken wings took forever(I think they forgot) they forgot to bring water/soda and refills. We had to keep asking for things because the server forgot. Then she came out with our bills and we werent even ready to be done. They even charged the lady for her chicken wings and it took about 45 minutes!! Came here for Valentine's Day dinner. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we weren't seated until later, but understandably. Our server told us they have 800 reservations that night! It took a while for drink orders and to get the meal started, again it was very busy and the staff was very apologetic. The manager even took off our appetizer due to the wait. We had been to hibachi before, but never Benihana. We loved the show they put on and our chef was very entertaining. Our meal was great. I am one to typically need a to-go box wherever I go, but I finished my meal, it was so good. I am vegetarian, but am not strict about broths, the same utensils being used, etc. I appreciated that the chef asked first when he saw I ordered the tofu. While I understand that the table is to Seat 8 I believe certain things should be considered such as if the table has turned to 9 seats due to other patrons needs. On my particular visit I spoke up to say that filling the left over seats would cause for myself and the other guests to basically be touching knees. I was looked over. To add more insult to the situation the police was called to the lobby to "overlook" my table as if I was a problem guest. That I feel was totally unnecessary as well as a stereotypical profile and response. I was uncomfortable. No scene was caused. Guest should be comfortable when the come in to dine at an establishment. I will not even speak on the manager and his lack of professionalism. It is so sad to see what this restaurant has become. It has lost so much of its Japanese heritage charm. The current management team is running it into the ground. They take reservations, but they constantly overbook tables. Our group had to wait 30 minutes past our seating time. Then once we were seated, it took an additional 20 minutes to get waited on. Then it was another 30 minutes for the chef to start cooking. By this point we just wanted our food prepared. The chef used too much of the bottled oil while preparing the food. He seemed bored and was just going through the motions. We would have been better off just having our food made in the back and brought out to us. By the time the chef finished cooking our food, we had been there for more than 2 hours. The food was ok, but definitely not exceptional. The atmosphere at Benihana is sheer chaos. It really seems like no one is in charge. The atmosphere is so loud that we couldn't even hear others at our table. You feel crammed in like sardines and there is no air circulation. We arrived about 20 minutes early and were told to wait until closer to our reservation time--no problem there. One of our friends was running late, so we asked if that would be an issue. Our server seemed rushed from the beginning, despite us clearly communicating we were waiting on one more guest. She said she'd bring out soups and salads, but then didn't return with them for about 20 minutes. During that wait, she pressed us to order, warning that if we didn't, our friend might not be allowed to join us. She even mentioned she didn't want the manager to "make a scene," which felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. Eventually, we placed our order--and only then did the soups and salads arrive. Our friend showed up shortly after and was allowed to sit with us, but her soup and salad were only brought out after we followed up ten minutes later. Things continued to decline from there. One of my friends found a hair in their food, and we had to ask to speak to a manager five times before the server finally honored our request. To make matters worse, she continued pushing my friend to pay before the issue had even been addressed. Thankfully, the manager--once they finally arrived--handled things well and professionally. Also, our chef Vanessa was fantastic and honestly the best part of the evening. But overall, the service left a lot to be desired. For the price point, I expected a much better experience. Last night, I went with my son, we're both seasoned Benihana customers, have been to Benihana in Seattle (years ago) and Chicago 20+ times, first time last night in Indianapolis. We had a reservation for 7:30pm and we arrived on time. Had to stand near the very crowded entrance for about 45 min before getting seated. What's the point of making a reservation?? I wish they had warned us about the wait then one of us would've sat in the car instead of standing with the crowd. The host must've had zero ideas nothing was available for us in about the next hour. Anyone apologized or thanked us for the patience? Nope! Finally ordered food at 8:30pm, not a big deal for them, but I had been driving all day without meals and was gonna drive another two hours after dinner, so that was a big deal for me! The chef was the worst we had ever had, barely any tricks. As simple and skill-less as making a smiley face with the cooking oil, nope! Even worse, the way he talked (his tone and lack of talking) and everything he did were trying to convince me that he hated his job and couldn't wait to go home. I'd assume maybe he's going through a divorce or something, so I'd give him some grace. Looking at the chefs at other tables, looking at how other customers were enjoying their show and the atmosphere, but mine was just gloomy and boring, I kept wondering, "why am I paying the same price for the extreme opposite experience??" Onto the server who also couldn't wait to be done with her job. We were out of water most of the evening, though she did refill one glass once without caring enough to notice that the other glass had ice only. I guess they're having a drought. It was very hard to get her attention all night! Our meals included tea I had to ask for, and she gave the two of us one copper mug claiming they're out of tea cups, so we had to share one heat-conducting metal mug for our HOT tea! But they didn't even offer tea so why would they be out? As soon as the chef finished his cooking and cleaning, the server came to offer to-go boxes and immediately the check - of course those were the only things they were super efficient and proactive!! But I had only started eating my entree!!! As seen in my photo, which was taken when we were already given the to-go box and the check! After we paid, I reminded our server, our meals included ice-cream. She asked me, "what did you order?" Wait! Is this my job to remember that? Or she didn't believe what I said?!! Either way, that was utterly terrible!! She should've apologized for forgetting about our ice cream! By then, I had packed up my whole entree and rice, everyone else at the table had already left. I tried to ignore the fact that for my supposedly 7:30 dinner, they were completely out of lemonade already!!! I don't understand why. When the server explicitly made me choose the amount of tips pointing at that with her finger while holding the device with her hand, I felt stressed to refuse to pay the minimum 18% and customize it. Fine, I'd pay 18% for my last visit. It's very sad because now this is the closest Benihana to us. Next time, I'd rather drive to Chicago. Two stars for the on-par food only. Zero for humans! In an effort to not cook on Christmas I found that Benihana was open and booked a reservation. We were seated on time and had prompt service. I was really impressed by the good service during this visit as well as the excellent chef we had. I got the steak chicken and shrimp for my Christmas lunch and fried rice. The chef was really good and sis the various tricks during the dinning time. I noted they seemed to have a special menu on Christmas that offered some choices I hadn't seen before. My food tasted great during this visit and I felt the service was back in line with what I am used to at Benihanas.While expensive it was worth the money and they did gove plenty of food for the price. read more

And even though someone decided halfway through that they did want fried rice, he had a great attitude and fried the additional rice while cooking everyone else's dishes. The food was very good! I got the Teriyaki Steak and it was cooked well. However, with all the sauces they offer on the side(Yum Yum, Mustard, and Ginger), it was a little too much with the teriyaki sauce. I recently went to Benihana for dinner. A couple of my friends joined me for something fun for my birthday celebration. We made reservations with OpenTable. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were told it would be a couple minutes before we were seated. Two sets of couples came in behind us and all seven of us were seated at a community table that seats eight people. The tables are rectangle with two chairs on the ends and four down the long side. The other side of the table is where the chef does the cooking. As soon as we were seated they gave us a menu and took our drink order. All seven of the people at our table ordered their dinner. Most of the dinners come with soup and salad. While we started eating the chef came out and started cooking. I ordered the Rocky's choice. It was steak and chicken with white rice and veggies. I did not pay the additional up charge for the fried rice. It's like another $5-$6 on top of the $36 meal. The chef made an onion volcano with fire and put the fried rice into a heart during the show. Most of the "show" seemed very rushed. He had to redo the volcano onion cause I went to take a picture and he had already put it out. One of the couples at the table with us were regulars and suggested that we put extra garlic butter on our steak so we did. I think the chef put extra garlic butter on most of their items. Now my food... well it didn't have any flavor! Everything needed some salt and more of that garlic butter. The steak was very tough and so was the chicken. They were both over cooked. The building is showing its age and could definitely benefit from a remodel. All of the staff were friendly, but I don't think I will come back because the food was not worth it. read more
