I am the typical last minute make an appt want a haircut the same day kinda guy. Well I guess it was my lucky day b/c I called Benedetto's and had an appt within an hour since someone else had cancelled. The appt was even with Gerardo himself, sweet! Gerardo was a pleasure to chat all the while trying to decipher his thick Italian accent. He probably spent almost an entire hour on my hair. (fyi, i have relatively short hair) It was nice to have a stylist really care about every aspect of the cut. Using multiple techniques to give it a great texture and layered look. He gave me styling pointers, advise on other products to use, ect... He also has a website that you can look up. He makes you feel comfortable, informed, and well taken care of. I was worried that I was going to have to go the rest of my days shaving my head because of thinning in certain spots and Yvey saw past that! ????? I remember reading a few reviews of Benedetto on Yelp, so I'm wondering what happened? Any-hoo, I've been here several times for waxing. Gee-hee was recommended to me by a friend who says that Gee-hee is VERY detail oriented and will get every single stray hair. I will say that Geehee is an "artist", she makes sure that you look good, so good it looks like something straight out of a porn mag, but DAMN! Does she need to get EVERY single stray hair? OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! The first time I assumed that the extreme pain was because it was my first Brazilian? Maybe the pain won't be so bad next time? What an optimistic! I made the horrible mistake of going back to her several more times....she is very nice and acts like the whole experience is normal, she even appears to enjoy her job and take pride in her work. Unfortunately I just cannot take the pain - I think it's the combination of the type of wax she uses and the stabbing from her tweezers. I've never looked that good "down there", but unfortunately it comes at the price of EXTREME PAIN! read more

I had the BEST experience here ! It was like the whole salon was waiting on me hand and foot and the music transported me to a small town in Argentina! Not stuffy or crowded -Yvey my stylist spent more time on me then I have ever been given before -the hair shampoo and moisturizing was a whole experience in itself! Gerardo does a good job. In fact, one of my favorites haircuts came from him. I have been a long time customer of Mode and Gary Manuel, but those places are getting crazy expensive. I had a very bland haircut at Gary recently. Like over $100 for a cut and this is not NYC. He is a Italian so a little flirty but this is his personality. He is extremely passionate about his work and oozes talent and style. You will not regret coming to Yvey. Not only are his haircuts amazing, but they last an extremely long time. I had a fantastic hair cut and color experience here. My stylist, Jason, was friendly and funny. He brought me tea and offered dough nuts, and made sure I was comfortable always. He worked fairly quickly but masterfully. The price was not exactly cheap but not bad for a nicer salon. The atmosphere is very bustling; I wouldn't recommend it for relaxing spa treatments. I felt like it was a flurry of motion and language all around me- I personally found this refreshing and a sign of the owner's European roots, but I can see how it would annoy some. My first haircut at Gerardo Benedetto's salon went very well. Because I was so happy about it, I called Gerardo the following day to thank him. Unfortunately, my second haircut was a disaster. Like the first time, I supplied a picture and explanation of what I wanted in regards to shape and length. This time he did not do what I wanted. My hair looks horrible. I did my part by showing him a picture and, while he was cutting my hair, I kept reminding him, many times, not to cut it too short. Nevertheless, he did not listen. My hair came out awful. I called him the next day to let him know that I was not happy about the cut and that I wanted a refund. He said for me to come by his salon but then was rude and hung up the phone on me. Therefore, I was not comfortable going to his salon for concern of an argument and rude response. I now have to have many months living with an awful hair style as I wait for my hair to grow.
