The service was very good. When dining, we usually order the restaurant's choice item. At Benchmark, we ordered the Butcher's Board: prime filet, prime strip, scallops, shrimp, and lobster. The best restaurant in NW Ohio, in my humble opinion. I brought my significant other to my hometown for the first time and this was hands-down, "the" restaurant I planned the entire weekend around. I had very high expectations and it did not disappoint. The cocktail menu, wine and alcohol selection is outstanding and pairs expertly with the dining menu. We were staying out of town so we were within walking distance from our hotel. (A blessing on a rainy Saturday night) Decor / ambience: I want to live here. Beautiful space. Decor is perfect backdrop to the food and beverages. Upscale dining, every fixture is gorgeous and the lighting is perfect. Something I rarely notice is comfortable seating - this place even nails that feature. Price: very reasonable upscale menu and pricing - there are selections in every price range for both lunch and dinner. I would personally budget $75 per person, plus tip - but you can spend far less and have an outstanding meal and experience also. (I could easily choose a meal for under $20; you could also easily spend $100 - very nice balance of price points, in my perspective) The entire staff ensures your experience is wonderful from entering the restaurant (I highly recommend reservations) to your departure. We even stopped at the bar for a nightcap and the service was impeccable and suggested the dinner menu to enjoy with our drink selections. Our table shared a bite of each entree (and the lucky person who ordered the selection finished the plate): 1) Sea Bass: served with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes | Broccolini 2) Salmon: served with Bernaise sauce | mashed potatoes | asparagus 3) Short Rib: served with pureed carrot | Fingerling Potatoes Note: the menu has changed and the Salmon is presented with Sweet Corn Cream Sauce | Bacon Lardons | Butter Poached Leeks and the Short Rib is no longer on the menu. As surprised as I was no one ordered a steak (this is really what the restaurant is known for) each one of our meals was really flavorful and expertly prepared and presented. We each savored that sample bite but managed to enjoy what we ordered - honestly, everything was so good. I secretly was hoping to save some appetite for dessert, also. Once you order you starter and/or entree - a bread service arrives and you will delight in the delicately cheese-laden popovers, served with whipped butter. Deliciously crisp on the exterior and light and fluffy interior is a reason to come dine here all by itself. Perfection. The dessert menu had a surprising 5 items to choose from; we narrowed the list and shared the sticky toffee pudding between the 3 of us and there was still enough for a 4th person (we each had 2-3 delightful bites) - expertly spiced and served at the perfect temperature with various creams. My husband and I went to this wonderful restaurant for our anniversary this evening. We went on a recommendation so it was the first time for both of us, but definitely not the last. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and promptly seated. The atmosphere was welcoming with a lot of natural light. The tables are gigantic (which I think may be done on purpose that way couples opt to sit next to each other) Our server, Marcus was amazing. My husband and I were servers ourselves once upon a time and it's not often that we can find nothing to critique about our service. Marcus was knowledgeable , attentive, and very very good at his job. As was the entire staff for that matter, they all worked together as a team. Top notch service all the way around. The food...oh my gosh the food!!!! Every single bite was heavenly. The popovers were warm and crispy, the crab cake was delicate and oh so yummy. My husband got the filet "chefs way" and he declared it was the best steak he's ever tasted. Melt in your mouth, could cut it with a butter knife tender, cooked to perfection. I got the blackened salmon with Calabrian chile and crab spaghetti...it was just the right amount of spicy and the salmon was flaky and delicious and cooked to the perfect med. We paired our meals with the ooey gooey mac and cheese and the flavorful balsamic glazed brussels sprouts. For dessert we opted for the bourbon cake topped with ice cream and it was exceptional. Based on everything I've read about Benchmark, I was expecting a 5 star experience; instead, I barely got a 4. C.A.B.? B.F.D. I think the reason a 10 oz filet costs $61 is because it's Certified Angus Beef (C.A.B.). Supposedly, C.A.B. is produced using a higher set of standards for beef, and these higher standards, supposedly, are very evident at the dinner table. Nah...no they're not. My steak was very good, but it wasn't THAT good. I will say that my 10 oz filet was very well prepared (perfect medium, thank you very much), succulent, and delicious, but was it "61 bucks delicious?" Methinks not. Rockwell's and Mancy's both serve an outstanding 10 oz filet for about 36 bucks. My wife's sea bass was moist, tender, and light. Unfortunately, it was also a little light in flavor. It wasn't bad, but Rosie's does a better job. My kids loved their chicken (not fingers, but breasts). Two nice big breasts. Who wouldn't love that? Sides: The grilled cauliflower (seasoned with raisins, capers, etc) was great. One order serves 2 to 3 people. The cheesy grits? Nice texture, minimal flavor. Green beans and steak fries? Both were great, as per the kids. Desserts: Nothing out of the ordinary...just what you'd expect for a place like this...very good but not great. Were they worth the calories? I'm not sure. Drinks: The cocktails were excellent; the wife was happy on Mother's Day. Five stars for those. The beer and whisky selection? Not bad, but certainly nothing special. Service: Brian did a great job. FFA, fast, friendly, accurate. Atmosphere: Light and modern. Clean and comfortable. Price: Expensive. I'm not a cheapskate...I've actually paid more for dinner for (only) TWO at Final Cut, Element 112, Kengo, etc. Those dinners were definitely worth it. Was Benchmark worth it? I not sure. I would consider this upscale casual. Very clean and the decor suits the menu. Unbelievable food and decent prices considering the rise in food cost these days. It was packed, which is expected on a Friday night. We sat at one of the bar tops, which is first come first serve. I was a little surprised by that. I would have thought the would hav been seated tables. Lucky we didn't have that long of a wait and other patrons we very cordial and respectful. If you want a great steak I would highly recommend this establishment. It was done to perfection and melts in your mouth. Two of us in our group also had the wedge salad. They we're good, although I would prefer less dressing. It didn't ruin the salad just overwhelming. My wife asked if I could figure the herbs in the rolls because she liked them so much she wants me to make them at home. We had the private back room for our party of 10 and this room also houses their wine. I had the Seabass with vegetarian lo mein entrée. It was very good, but not excellent in my opinion and it should've been for the $42 price tag. The Seabass was slightly tough in areas and was a bit bland. Also, and this was my biggest nit, they needed to drain the lo mein better because the entire dish was swimming in too much water. Went for a celebration dinner and wasn't disappointed at all. The place a great ambience and decor is simple but impressive. The server was very good and made some great recommendations. Tried a few different drinks, decent. The popover bread that comes first is just so delicious, egg, cheese and flour, yummy. Had whipped ricotta which was unique and tasty as well. Got a rib eye and shrimp and salmon entree, perfect char on the steak and interior was pink, one of the better ones I have had. Shrimp and salmon had this perfect smoky taste, enjoyed it. I have to agree with my friend Michael M, when he says Levis Commons finally has a SOUL. We've dined at the shopping mall countless times, almost always at chains and certainly almost always out of necessity. For this dining experience, we wanted to find somewhere new and conveniently located so we could meet with my dear grandmother who was visiting us from out of town. I wanted to take her somewhere NICE and yelp made it seem like Benchmark might provide the perfect storm of convenience and quality. I made reservations online and was really impressed with the software they are using. It was a breeze to find a spot, and I recommend you consider this option as I can imagine it gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights. We went on a Sunday and it was pretty much a ghost town. And speaking of ghost towns, I have to say the view of Levis Commons out the windows is just... strange. I get why they chose this location for the restaurant but it's just really a really weird atmosphere if you get seated facing the windows, which I did. As for the food, we pretty much loved everything. We started with the feta dip, which to me came across as just whipped up feta topped with some olive oil and curious sweet pickled cucumbers. Not something I would order again, but I liked the briny flavor of the feta quite a bit. We passed around a bowl of the french onion soup, which I found to be quite bland. I really look for a rich and salty flavor in a french onion, and this did not provide either. My grandmother ordered the salmon with mustard cream sauce and was delighted with the al dente nature of the accompanying green beans. I could chalk it up to her age, but she mentioned it more than once how much she liked them. My wife got the burger, with a side of the "charred" broccolini. She thought the burger was great, and really dug the dijonaise but one bite of the broccolini and she pushed it away. She said it tasted off, and after I gave it a try I realized the char is probably coming from a gas grill, which is imparting a strong bad flavor. I ordered the special fish of the day, which was served with a cajun butter. I also ordered a side of the fried cauliflower, which is said to come with raisins and capers. First of all, holy smokes the cauliflower was EXCELLENT but also swimming in oil. The fish was also EXCELLENT and knowing they can cook a piece of fish so perfectly makes me already excited about my next visit. Qwerky location, great service, excellent food AND reasonable prices. The music inside did not match the vibe of the place, our waitress was quick and short with us. I ordered a medium steak and it came almost rare -- not to mentioned how overpriced it was. My waitress charged me 23 dollars for black truffles (which i didn't order) and when I questioned it she told me that she had that in her notes and that's what I ordered so I told her to check again -- which she did reluctantly and eventually it got taken off my bill. We've went twice in the past month. The food and service is unparalleled. At every point of service, we felt as though every host wanted us to have the best. Both evenings the food was delectable. Tonight, our previous server recognized us and I mentioned that I was sad that I forgot my salted caramel creme brûlée on our last visit because it was delicious. Next our server came and told us to save room for a complimentary dessert, as I forgot mine. Everything was great, but having our previous server recognize us and offer this made us feel that our patronage was appreciated. Benchmark has been one of my boyfriend's and my favorite restaurants for awhile now - the cocktails, wine, food, and service are always top notch - so he knew this would be the perfect place to plan a proposal. Our server, Patrick, went above and beyond to give us such a magical experience and the manager, Rikki, was so kind to film the proposal without even being asked and made sure we received the video. After an amazing meal and dessert we casually mentioned we needed to get home to our kids and Patrick offered complimentary chocolate chip cookies to bring home to them. We dined here for a late birthday celebration for my father in law. It was a Tuesday and it was busy. Our server was very professional, he answered all of our questions and always refilled our waters without us having to ask him. They served bread and butter before we got our meal. I ordered my steak medium, it could have been cooked a little more but I ate it anyway. The fries were nice and crispy. My husband got the halibut, I had a bite and it was cooked perfectly. My mother in law got the chicken schnitzel, it had a light lemony sauce. My father in law got the filet, it was only 6 oz and he didn't get any sides so he didn't share . We also got a side of the cauliflower with the raisins, lemons, and capers. The side was enough for the whole table to share,we didn't even finish it. At the end of the meal our server asked us if we wanted dessert and we all declined. He then reminded us that my father in law got one for free since we were celebrating his birthday. I took my parents to Benchmark last night for dinner. While I'm usually not a "run out and write a yelp review" kind of guy, a fantastic performance deserves accolades. Pretty much everything was perfect. Staff were visibly following covid guidelines & spacing was appropriate. Our server was the definition of impeccable - friendly, highly attentive without being overbearing, extremely knowledgeable. We had a number of dishes and everything was delightful - the french onion soup and filet prepared "the chef's way" were particular highlights. I've been to Benchmark now a couple times, and while I'd categorize past visits as very good, this one was pretty much perfect.
