The food averaged overall a 3+ but we had such great service from Sean that I'm rounding up to 4 stars. They were not at all busy on a Saturday evening. Besides the personable service, the best parts of our meal were the appetizers. We shared baked brie with honey and nuts and a few pear slices. It was served warm and it was delicious with the bread toasts. Our friends shared the burrata salad. The generous portions of creamy cheese were served on top of very red tomato slices place on top of arugula. All was liberally drizzled with balsamic glaze. Our entrees were not as enjoyed. I had their shrimp scampi served over linguine and that was the best dish. Our friend's rigatoni in alfredo sauce was fine, but just okay. My husband's chicken piccata was a nice sized portion but lacked the lemon sauce it should have had. I requested a lemon wedge for him -- which helped a bit. The worst of the grouping was our friend's crab cake appetizer. He had this as his entree. Most of the plate had vegetables on it. But it was the crab cake that was lacking, the texture and quality and taste of the very minced crab shreds was not at all enjoyed. We shared a couple deserts -- key lime pie and coconut cream pie. These were definitely not up to par and should have been skipped. I'm glad we came. The setting is charming with stained glass panels, etc. Probably a better place for the ladies that lunch. read more

Dinner with family this evening. Beautiful eclectic interior and great friendly service from our server. Nice crisp glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc as we looked over the menus. I chose the Chicken Piccata for my Entree and shared the Baked Brie with Pear. This was a dish of baked Brie and six thin slices of pear, a pinch of pecan, drizzled with honey, accompanied by toast slices. It was good in spite of the pecan and pear rationing. My Chicken Piccata was a single chicken breast half, sliced horizontally, perfectly cooked, on top of a bed of linguine. The sauce had a slight lemon flavor with a dash of capers thrown in. (My wife had asked for a slice of lime and lemon for her tea, gave me the thin lemon slice to add ...it helped the sauce!) For dessert we shared the coconut cream pie. Most of the coconut flavor was in the crust. Again, great service and ambiance. read more

So shocked. Never been so disrespected, while trying to patronize a restaurant. We were the only 2 people in the restaurant, and before even ordering, we started to be verbally assaulted by owner. All we could do is walk out. However, even as we were leaving, the verbal assault continued. Mind boggling. I think the "owner" has some serious issues, and a restaurant is the last place she should be. Maybe a therapist's couch is more in order. Will never go back and will never recommend to anyone. We were wandering around Antique Row and were looking for a lunch spot nearby. Belle & Maxwell's was conveniently located and offered the perfect respite, with a lovely decor and an inviting lunch menu. The restaurant was filled with stained glass windows and kitschy pillows. It was bright and airy. The server did a nice job but he seemed a bit dour, in contrast with the upbeat and pleasant atmosphere. We generally enjoyed our dining experience though. I had the tuna melt with white cheddar cheese on multi-grain toast. Tasty albeit not exceptional. One person in our group had the homemade crab cake with mixed veggies and a delicious sauce. That entree received a 5-star rating. Another person enjoyed the burrata, which consisted of mozzarella cheese and tomato on arugula, topped with a (overly?) hefty portion of fresh basil and a nice balsamic glaze. My husband had the grilled chicken club sandwich. He was disappointed with the chicken, which was a bit dry and not particularly flavorful. The entree was accompanied by a side salad. Would we eat here again? Probably, as the food was generally good and the location was convenient. The prices were a tad on the high side for lunch though. I give the restaurant 5 stars for ambiance and -5 for service. I am convinced this business is a front for money laundering. A business can't sustain itself when it ignores the customers. Unfortunately, this writer is not able to review the food because no one came tontakenour order. I would love to have been able to review the food, however, we waited for at least 20 minutes without anyone asking us for a drink knorder, nor explaining specials or soup of the day. We were the only 2 customers in the restaurant and after waitingb20 minutes, I realized we had the lunch menu that ended at 3 pm. I went to the hostess station and asked for the dinner menu, which still wasn't the same as the online dinner menu. We waited another 5-10 and finally left despite having to brave the torrential downpour. I was really looking forward to seeing if the eggplant lasagna tasted like my dad's eggplant parmesan. Im mot sure what the problem is but it doesn't feel like the Belle & Maxwells that I've known. I've noticed Staff has changed and service has suffered. Food not so great anymore. I have been going here regularly for many years--a go-to place for a lovely lunch. I was always confident to recommend it--not anymore! They used to have a great "pick two" selection with interesting sandwiches like apples, brie and walnuts on a fabulous baguette, great salads and soups. Today I ordered half of a smoked turkey, brie and avocado sandwich on a toasted baguette and the curried chicken salad, a "pick two" choice. The turkey was basically a couple slices of deli turkey, there was a little brie and you had to search for the avocado. Worst of all it was not a toasted baguette as described but a soft roll. The curried chicken salad served on a slice of tomato was decent but a very small portion. My companion ordered the same sandwich with a house salad--she was disappointed too. We both had water and for the 90 minutes we were there no one offered to refill our glasses. I don't know what happened to a once great restaurant. Maybe changing it to an Italian place wasn't a good idea. Sadly, I will not go back. read more

I have to start this review off with an apology. This was my first time to this restaurant, and I'm usually better taking pictures: especially of the food. But I was with a friend I hadn't seen in many months, and I was so busy catching up with her that I forgot to take pictures of our food! But I digress... I love when restaurants do that and support local artists. They had a vast menu, with a little bit of everything. They also had a quiche of the day (today's was carrot and Brie) as well as I sleep of the day (today's sounded like chili). My friend said she orders the same thing every time she goes there, the turkey meatloaf. She said it never disappoints and it is very delicious. I was having a hard time deciding between a sandwich or a salad, so I did the half and half, where you could choose two out of soup, salad, or sandwich. I choose half of the Signature Roast Beef Sandwich, and their house salad. The roast beef sandwich was perfect. It was It was served on a toasty roll, with thinly shaved roast beef (perfectly seasoned) and brie cheese. Neither of us left a bit food on our plates It was that good. They had a delicious sending dessert menu with a lot of choices, but we literally could not eat one more bite. This was such a cute cafe that I will definitely be back! We were doing something in West Palm Beach and it was late and we stopped. We had reservations for this restaurant. It wasn't very busy which makes it good. It also had outdoor seating in the back, which I realized after we were sitting inside the food was good. I hadthe zucchini Pasta, which was very tasty. And yes, I heard Patti LuPone singing in my head (Broadway fans will understand :) Just a charming little restaurant near Antique Row in West Palm Beach, and the perfect respite after shopping. The decor is charming (so much so, that I took rare restaurant photos which is not something I normally do). The wait staff was delightful (yes, I liked being called Mademoiselle). The food is fresh, tasty and, in my opinion, not over-priced. Friend had a cup of soup (gazpacho, which for them had a tad too much pepper) and half a sandwich (tomato and mozzarella which they seemed to enjoy. I had the crabmeat salad supreme, which was a nice portion of crab meat on top of diced cucumber, tomato and croutons, with fresh basil and a light vinaigrette that included a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Very refreshing and a generous portion of crabmeat made this dish a real winner for me, and something I would not hesitate to order again. We both had water. Dinner: Alfredo rigatoni- great creamy cheesey alfredo sauce with shaved basil. 10/10 Tutti Mar - great variety of seafood. Clams, mussels and garlic butter shrimp on top of linguini. If you are a seafood lover this dish is a must 10/10 Margarita pizza: good lots of cheese 7/10. Dessert. We tried coconut cream pie, ricotta cheesecake, and Russian tea cakes. Erik was a great waiter very attentive, and the food was good. I wish they had a slightly bigger selection when I went between 3-4. It was too small of a selection I prefer more options. The appetizer potato parmesan was crispy it taste really good but it was too thick of wedges I would have preferred much thinner cuts. Also tried their margarita cheese flatbread and that was delicious. I will be back to try the penne, alla vodka, but I have to go there for dinner. Our experience was disappointing. The establishment was not busy and we were sat promptly. We were ignored from this point forward. No waitstaff visited our table throughout the duration of our visit. We are a Latino family. After approximately 20 minutes a black couple was seated, followed by a white couple. The waiter stood towards the end of our table, looked at us, made eye contact with me, and then took the drink order of the white couple. At this point, I looked at my husband and told him that I wanted to leave. There was no acknowledgment from the staff. My husband and I were with our son and hus friend. I made reservations thru open table 2 weeks in advanced for Valentine's day. The restaurant was not as busy as I expected. Our party of 4 was sat pretty quick after entering. We waited for 28 minutes for the waiter, who never came. No water brought to the table, nor did we have silverware. During our wait, we noticed the server tended to the party of 2 just seated 20 minutes after us. We are a Latino family, and while we are not saying this was racially motivated, it was evident the white couple was attended to immediately and we were passed over, as well as the black couple who was sat after us, waiting about the same time. It took a while to get our waitress back to place our order. It seemed they were short handed. Once we ordered, the food came pretty quickly. All of the food was really good. We all had salads. Greek, beet and goat cheese, and crab salad. Salads ranged from #15-$18. We all asked for more salad dressing as there was little on the salads. Tasty and fresh with a piece of flaky croissant and cantalope on the side. We shared several desserts which were all yummy! The coconut xreme pie, chocolate pecan pie, and carrot cake were all very good. Prices are $5-8. The waitress seemed stressed and was snappy at times. I hadn't been to Belle & Maxwell's in years and was excited to have lunch there today. I had some work/writing I wanted to do while I dined and was shown the beautiful space outside. It was perfect and quite inspiring. I ordered a glass of wine and a salad. My server asked me how the salad was and I hadn't tried it yet, so I mentioned that, and said I would let him know once I did. Well, that was the last I saw of him. The restaurant was quite busy when I had arrived but had also cleared out while I was enjoying my meal. It seemed I had the entire backyard area to myself, which was lovely. The weather was perfect. However, my server did not return. Not once. I would have loved to have ordered more. I waited. And waited... then decided to pack up my things. I used the restroom and had to walk up to the bar to retrieve and pay my bill. I still left him $5 but this was quite a disappointment. read more
