I stopped here for some dessert and wanting to try something different. I was immediately greeted when I entered the store. There was some seating available, but I decided to do a takeout order. I ordered an Arroz con Leche and 3 Pastelitos (Gauva and Cream Cheese, Strawberry and Cream Cheese, and Gauva). The pastries were very flaky and buttery. There was a large amount of filling in all 3 pastries. I thought they were absolutely scrumptious. The Arroz con Leche was quite nice as well. It had a garnish of cinnamon and raisins and the cinnamon flavor was present throughout the entire dish as I was eating and smelling it. So excited I finally got to try this place! It's located in Arapaho Village plaza with plenty of parking. Right when we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the nicest employee! We ordered the Bella frita, Cubano sandwich, chicken empanada, and a Cuban flan. Everything was top notch and generous portions! The Bella frita's garlic cilantro aioli sauce complemented the smashed burger patty so well, as well as the thin fries crisped to perfection! The Cubano sandwich was also one of the best I've had, with the right amount of crisp on the bread and tang from the spicy mustard. It also came with a large side of crispy plantain chips and another type of sauce! The flan was more of a creamy, thicker consistency and definitely filled me up by the end of the meal. I had never tried Cuban food and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! I loved it! I typically don't like spicy food and when the Cubano sandwich said it had spicy mustard, I was wondering if I could eat here. The super nice person that works there said it's really not spicy but she could put it on the side for us. The combination of moist roasted pork with ham and Swiss cheese along with a pickle on a fun shaped toasty bread was amazing! And the mustard was not too spicy for me, it was almost like a dijon. My brother-in-law was staying with my wife and me for a few weeks and always looks for good places to eat. He saw Bella Flan and suggested it to us, but I was reluctant. I've had a few Cuban sandwiches since moving to Texas two years ago (and many before). I always have to add something whether it be mustard or pickles. There have been times when I'd take my food home and grill more meat to add even. We decided to give the place a shot as it had been recommended a long time ago by someone who owned a bakery in Wylie (my wife loves flan, and they said that Bella flan was the place to go for flan). We decided to go and knew we would at least enjoy the flan. We each ordered a Cuban sandwich, a burger, chicken, pork, and beef empanadas, a guava pastry, rice pudding, and, of course, flan. It. Was. Amazing. Literally everything we ordered unlocked new cravings within me. You know how sometimes you'll be doing something and will randomly just want a specific food item? This has happened to me with each of the items we ate from the place. The sandwich was freshly cooked and grilled/pressed. The meat quality was top notch. The sauce was so good. The ratio of meat, cheese, sauce, and pickles was exactly right so that all of the flavors blended together without one dominating the others. The burger was good and fresh. Good ingredients and flavor. The empenadas were fresh, flaky, and fantastic. All of the pastries were delicious. And the flan? The baker who recommended this place was right. This is the best flan in the area and close to being the best flan I've ever had. There are multiple types, and they're all delicious. My wife enjoys flan but doesn't really like sweets; she loved the flan. My brother-in-law is a self-proclaimed foodie (a well deserved title as he spends a lot of time looking for good food and is a good cook in his own right). He was very happy with how good the food was. Now on to the staff. The owner works 6 days a week, and this is clearly her passion. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met. You know how you can meet someone and within seconds know that they're just genuinely kind? That's how it felt when I first went here. Everyone else there is just as nice and courteous. There's just a really good vibe. I've recommended this place to several people now. I've been many times. My uncle is coming to town next week, and he asked where we should meet up for lunch. It comes with a generous portion of fried plantain chips. Hubby gets it with the Cubano coffee (WAY too strong for me!). I always order the black-bean veggie burger which comes with several strips of plantain, and I have yet to be able to finish the burger in one sitting -- but that means I have some for dinner that night or lunch the next day! The only thing that came close to any kind of disappointment was the Nutella Flan...could have been me and my taste buds but it only tasted like a hint of Nutella. I feel like the highlight of this restaurant is the cake flan as it's such an amazing unique take on this dessert! I've never had a flan cake before so I was a bit uncertain how they would pair together but it was fantastic! The flan is silky and rich while the cake is moist and not too sweet, helping cut back on the richness of the flan. The cake comes in several interesting such as coconut pandan, ube, but strawberry lychee was my favorite. The tres leches was also very good, although I prefer mine to have even more milk to make it more moist. I also tried some of the other items which I thought were decent. The cubano sandwich was delicious and comes as a huge portion with plantain chips on the side. My favorite part was actually the bread as it had a nice crunch but wasn't too hard. The potato balls were just ok to me. It's kind of like eating a deep fried mash potato ball with a meat filling. The flavor was good but the texture was a little to thick. Wow! I've been on the hunt for some good chocoflan. There are a few panaderías that sell chocoflan, but they're just okay. I saw that Bella Flan recently opened in Richardson, so since it was close by, I thought I'd try it out. The chocoflan is AMAZINGLY moist, chocolatey, and delicious. Tried it on Wednesday, and went back today (Friday) to buy 3 more mini chocoflans lol. I also tried their pastelitos and Cuban sandwich. The sandwich is quite large and very flavorful. The surprise for me was the plantain chips. I'm personally not a fan of plantain, but I finished the entire serving and it left me wishing I had more.
