I wanted a change of pace today. enough chinese, korean and japanese... been eating asian pretty much every day. i was looking for some jerk chicken or goat curry... i found this place as I was searching on google maps. basically, this was the closest one to where I was, at the moment, parked in a $3.49 per gallon gas station here in texas... i went in and order the oxtail dish. since it was happy hour, i also got a mojito... the mojito seems ok.. i thought, the sugar was not grinded enough... well, found out at the end when all the sugar was at the bottom in any case, Im here for the oxtail. it was really good. portions were really good. and the 2 free sides were also good, beans and plantains.. 30 bucks dish... it's unique and portions were good so I am happy. total was about $40+ i think i did $6 tip .. a little pricy but I understand since it is a high cost dish. it cost about the same in korean places.. the jamaican places have oxtail curry ... hmm perhaps it's time to try a instant pot recipe and buy some oxtail from costco... overall, a really good find. looks to be a hole in the wall place... i would love to try their cubanos... one of these days... read more

I have no idea where I first heard about this place, but I'm so glad I found it. Right after we ordered, the server brought over what looked like simple grilled pieces of bread. I was trying to save room for the main course, but there was something so delicious about those unassuming little bites. They were warm, slightly crisp, and completely addictive. We came specifically for the lunch specials, and they did not disappoint. I had my eye on the Piccadilly, a flavorful mix of ground meat with spices, potatoes, and what I believe were raisins and olives. It comes with white rice and black beans, but you can have them mixed together, which is absolutely the way to go. The combination of savory and slightly sweet flavors was fantastic. My only small wish is that it came with a few more sweet plantains on the side. My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich, which comes with a side. We chose fries and iced tea, and they generously brought us BOTH large iced teas. The sandwich itself was huge, easily big enough to take half home. It was perfectly grilled, warm, and melty. If I could change one thing, it would be to make the bread a bit smaller while keeping all that delicious filling. This place is also a great value. The ambience is cozy with cuban music playing. Service was a little slow but the food was excellent. I walked in and was greeted by a lovely staff member who happily seated me at a small table. The interior is brightly colored and sets a lively tone, with pictures adorning the walls. The menu offers a variety of dishes ranging from chicken, beef, pork, seafood, sandwiches, and classic favorites a la Ropa Vieja. After carefully evaluating the selections, I opted for a cafe con leche and a side a frijoles negros (black beans) and arroz moro. The coffee was creamy and delectably sweet, with just the right pull of espresso. The beans and rice paired exceptionally well and were savory and filling. The food was amazing as shown in my photos. I couldn't wait to take a few bites. Then I realized I didn't take a photo. The puerco frito ( fried pork) was juicy, flavorful, and unctuous. I had visited this restaurant several years ago before they expanded to the space next door (Formally Shandong China, I miss it greatly!) and finally revisited last week. The interior is comfortable but spartan with friendly service. My wife and I started out with the Camarones Empanizados Fritos appetizer which featured 12 wonderful breaded shrimp. I had the Bistec Uruguayo, a top sirloin with ham and provolone, breaded and fried. It comes with plantains and black beans/rice. It was a great combination and one I'd order again without hesitation. Half of the steak went home with me for lunch the following day. My wife had the Beef Sandwich which had the same steak as in my dish along with tomatoes, avocado slices, lettuce, among other items. also wonderful and also plenty of leftovers for lunch. Went here with my husband. For apertizers we had croquetas and papa rellena. The croquetas did not taste freshly made, and the papa rellena was hard from the inside (which it's not supposed to be). My husband had Pollo Fricasse and I had Lechón sandwich. For appetizer we shared a flan (I didn't love it). My husband's plate: chicken was seasoned very well, my lechón was tender, and bread was fresh. I give it a 4 stars because they did have good customer service, place was clean, and they were playing some good music, but wasn't impress with all of their food. read more

Definitely a hole in the wall type of place, with friendly staff and simple, delicious food. I popped in here after work to try some of their goodies. I got a beef empanada, ham croquetas, and the yuca con mojo with a cuban coffee to drink. The empanda was an explosion of flavor in my mouth, with savory spices and flaky pastry (I'm literally salivating just thinking about it) and I promptly ordered a large order to go to have later! The croquetas were ok, tasted like a ham and cheese sandwich rolled up and fried. I would not get those again. The yuca was a huge portion, and I took most of it home. It was nice and soft, and the dipping sauce for the empanadas went wonderfully on top! The coffee was so delicious, just a burst of rich, dark, coffee flavor that really set off the spicy flavors in my meal. I will definitely be back, probably to try some of the delicious looking pork items on the menu. Side note - speaking Spanish here is a plus! So my friend and I decided that we have similar palettes and will share a dish whenever we go out to not only save money but also reduce waste. We ordered two beef empanadas and Chicken Fricase. The beef empanadas were so delicious, the flaky sweet crust paired with the flavorful beef and tangy dipping sauce was a dream. My partner wasn't overwhelmed with it but I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Our next round of food came and the Fricase was to die for, he loved every single bite. It came with two huge chicken thighs stewed to perfection with potatoes and peppers. On the side, rice and beans and fried plantains, GOODNESS! My friend lives in the area and has no clue about all the hidden treasures around him. I am in the process of helping him uncover them and find a local favorite that he will enjoy. I'm glad I came out to the DFW area because the Cuban food in Chicago is not very good, and this place being my first try in DFW gives me bright hope for Cuban food down in the DFW area. I ordered the Bistec Encebollado with black beans & rice and some Fried Plantains. All of it tasted phenomenal, much better than any of the stuff I've had back in Chicago. The Beef was cooked the way I expected, except much better. It was tender, moist, with just a bit of chewiness. The rice had an amazing taste to it, very authentic and savory, while the fried plantains stole the show. The Fried Plantains not only were deliciously sweet, they were also the perfect sweetness I need to balance out all the savory. This place is definitely worth the visit especially if you're feeling any sort of Caribbean/Cuban food. Very authentic and great! Best Cuban I've had in a long time. read more

My husband and I had been craving Cuban food all week and decided to try a new local place tonight. Upon reading the reviews I thought this would be a safe bet to try. Unfortunately, this place lacked in a few things. Hidden behind the corner of Webb Chapel and Belt Line the parking lot is pretty small, I was lucky to score THE LAST spot on a Friday night around 6pm. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and decorated nicely. The staff was also very nice. I called ahead to order and was disappointed to see that the pricing on the website did not match the price they were charging me. The sandwiches were all $1 more. Why didn't they match? They said the website needed to be updated.... right. But they wouldn't honor the price. No to go menus either, she told me to take a photo of the actual menu. The food smelled great. But it did not hold well in the styrofoam container to-go after the 15ish minute ride home. We shared the Cuban sampler- the fried plantains were the best part. Croquettes were dry and kind of tasteless. We weren't sure of the sauces, some lime- salsa and another heavy garlic sauce. My husband got the Cuban sandwich - which come with fries- and was disappointed that it was probably one of the worst ones he has tried. The meat was just not good quality. Also the fries were thin and pretty gross. I had the shredded beef sandwich which actually was decent, but I wouldn't drive here just for that. Overall, it was lackluster. Maybe it was an off night?
