Finally had a chance to try this place. Had the Cuban sandwich and pork ropa veja with black rice and beans. The flavor for both dishes were very good. Cuban sandwich was perfectly toasted. Food, spot on, it was delicious. The black rice and beans were really good. Best authentic, Cuban sandwich I've had so far west of Miami. Cuban sandwich could have came with fries. However, the in dining experiences was not welcoming or pleasant. After eating my meal, I just wanted to get out of there. We entered, and the smell of what seemed like moisture in the walls was not pleasant. The tables and chairs can use some renovation. The booth was nice though, and like the color. The presentation of the food seemed like someone didn't want to put in the effort to make it presentable. On a solid dishware, the side of beans came in a plastic disposable cup/bowl for in dining meal. Again, food was good, but atmosphere needs to be revamped. My partner and I arrived in for a date night and had a pretty middle of the road experience. First, the good: it's a unique, obviously locally owned place, with food I can genuinely say I've never seen or tried before in the area. I got a cubano, and it was a large portion that I was able to take home part of for another meal. I think the pickles could've been more pickle and less cucumber taste, but I loved the mustard and overall it was a fantastic sandwich. The guy who served us was kind and even made sure our drinks were cool for us. The less good: it's a bit of a run down vibe inside, and there were leaks and AC failings inside when we were there. The menu is a bit hard to discern if you're unfamiliar and only available on QR codes at the tables. My bf got a pork dish and mentioned that it was all kind of one note. His dish was more expensive than my sandwich by several dollars and you can see from my picture that he got much less food. Overall, I left feeling kind of wishy washy about this place. This is the Real Thing! Here visiting from Miami and Orlando; the food is delicious!! Ordered easily online for pickup. All was well packaged by Luis (nice guy!). All was at the right flavors and consistency. Moist and flavorful. The Mofongo with Vaca Frita delicious. The Pork Masitas with Congrí and the Cuban Sandwich as good as the best in Miami. The PuertoRican Arroz con Gandules flavor was on point (but needs more actual Gandules). Even the fries were delicious. The Yuca al Mojo is traditional! This is a local, small restaurant in Plano. The owner, who I believe runs the restaurant mostly by himself, is super kind and friendly. We ordered our food at the front but he brings your food to your table. Overall I really liked the food! The lechon was very tender and easy to eat, and the cubano had a good amount of meat and flavor as well. My main complaint is that the brisket meat was a little tough, and the yucca fries chunks were a little large, but overall I enjoyed everything. The prices are a little higher, but I understand this is a local business. I also noticed a lot of people order to go, more than dine ins. read more

This place was awesome. Seems like just the owner taking orders, cooking food, and dropping it off to the table. It's a very small operation, but the food is crazy good. The sampler was awesome and the sandwiches tasted delicious. Even though a lot of this food is fried, I felt great after eating it which makes me believe the ingredients are good quality. My only ding is the prices. 2 sandwiches and a sampler is $70 which is quite expensive considering it's a self service place in a small, unassuming restaurant. But it was authentic and delicious. I would come back and eat some more if I have some extra money to burn on eating out. read more

Just a minor update since I've tried the place a number of times since the review. Have had some additional kinds of mofongo- all very good. During one visit the owner gave us some tips on how to reheat mofongo without it getting dry, which was something I've always struggled with. Most recently I tried the Ropa Vieja sandwich and the Ultimate Steak sandwich. Both were great- if I only could choose one it would be the ropa vieja. Ordering directly from their website - delivery or pickup - is easy and less fees than the popular delivery apps I believe. read more

If you think this is good Cuban food, Im sorry to say you haven't had good Cuban food. This is the hospital cafeteria version of what Cuban food usually is. The quality + portions of these plates is definitely not worth the price. There's no flavor or love in the food, which makes me terribly sad, because if there's no love in it, the least you can do is salt it... First time here, and did take out. The ropa vieja was disappointing given others reviews about how authentically Cuban the food is here. I've eaten this dish at real deal Cuban restaurants from LA to NY, have made it myself. And this wasn't in the same ballpark. The flavor was so underwhelming that if I didn't know better, I would have guessed it was just shredded beef with the lightest Latin or even super lowkey TexMex seasoning. Very one note and lacking any depth of flavor. The beef, peppers and onions were well cooked, so there's that. The beans and rice with it were tasty and cooked well. The Madura - fried plantains - may have been good if eaten there but the styrofoam did them no favors. I was surprised by just how oily they were, could only eat one. read more

Google Maps brought me to The Latin Pig Cuban Cuisine in an older shopping center along Custer Road at Parker Road. Owners told me that they want to open a location along 380 Hwy / University Avenue. I hope they get it, so I can be 1st Customer! The owners, a married couple from Cuba, now in middle-age years, simply enjoy cooking the Cuban dishes that they ate when growing. Home-style cooking, home style authentic ingredients. Pro Tip: Latin Pig even makes their own pickles for their Cubano sandwich! Many restaurant chains have tried to add the Cuban Sandwich to their menu, but if they don't go old school style, they don't get sales. The Cubano features roasted pork with mellow spices, and thick slice of ham, pan-fried to get carmelization, on 1 side at least. The pickle juice, slice of provolone, and yellow mustard combine flavors for the release of the signature Cubano "one-of-a-kind" taste. The Latin Pig also serves plates you would find a Cuban family eating in their homes. Small, humble location, in a venerable shopping mall facing Custer Road. So worth the 30 min drive from Dallas We decided to take a drive to Plano and while in the area we looked for Cuban food and boy we were happy to find this place and not disappointed at all. The guy inside was so helpful served us and made my coffee I ordered to go. Which by the way the coffee was perfect. Just like the food. A very poor example of a Cuban Restaurant. Priced like fine dining without the service. Like ordering take out. No wait staff. We walked in to an empty dining room and a young lady appeared behind the counter and told U.S. to scan a QR code on a table that had not been wiped down and she'd take our order when ready. After looking at an online menu, we started to order. I wanted white rice and beans with my lechón. NOPE. No white rice. I wanted a Materba. NOPE. No Materba. when we got our food, my serving was less than half the amount I get at any other Cuban restaurant. The restaurant closes at 8:00pm. As we were packing up a doggy bag and getting ready to leave at 8:04, the owner came up and said "Thank you for coming, but we close at 8:00". The soda fountain is self serve and even though utensils and napkins were also self serve, the very friendly staff (owner?) brought them over. When we arrived and sat the gentleman immediately greeted us and said he would check in for our order when ready. The menu was accessed by a QR code. We asked what he recommended and he told us "it's all very good, whatever calls out to you". We ordered 3 Cuban sandwiches (two with 'black rice' and one with 'cooked to order fries'), as well as an iced coffee. The sandwiches were incredible, freshly made, delicious and a great portion. Years ago this was among the best Cuban food I've ever had. Today the food here is so disgustingly bad that they should be ashamed of themselves for serving it. Came here at 5pm on a Saturday and the place was completely empty, no customers, no employees. I stood around for a minute trying to figure out what we're supposed to do and a very rude and disinterested employee came out. They have no menu and make you find their online menu with your phone, but then you can't order with your phone. Very stupid and confusing. I ordered the sampler. 20 long minutes later, it was missing the plantains, had completely inedible pork, some chicken bones with no meat, a raw potato, a raw carrot, and some ground meat mixed with raw carrots and other raw vegetables. They actually managed to screw up 5 different things and put it on my plate. If I hadn't paid in advance, I would have walked out without paying. I ended up eating none of the garbage that they served me and instead left and went to eat someplace else. What a miserable, sad excuse this place has become. read more

The sandwich was PERFECT and honestly I nearly inhaled it which meant my poor Yuca fries got cold. They were still pretty decent especially with the dipping sauce sent with them. But I think they'd be much better fresh so likely not a choice for delivery which is pretty typical for fries. But the sandwich! I am hooked. The food continues to be outstanding. I had the steak with onions and it was very good. The overall service has gone down. Now you pay upfront at the counter and they deliver to your table. Their plastic forks and knifes are a real downer. Previously they had metal forks and knifes. I think this is a mistake. I felt like the cheap plastic fork was going to break at any moment. Also, they now serve their black beans in a 1 ounce plastic cup. This was really tacky. There are certain things you should not change. Beans were previously served along with the rice on the plate and not in some tiny 1 ounce plastic cup. The service experience was unimpressive.
