I just had a horrible experience with a staff member at this establishment. I'm not sure if the guy with long hair and beard was a manager or server, but he left a terrible impression. I thought, it was going to be a good meal, but customer service sucked. We came with two and prepared to get multiple meals to go. Appetizers were ordered that took longer than necessary, another server was assisting us and that was changed. I asked when my order was going to be taken, told when I get ready. Wth. Another server tried ​, but this one guy was being a crusty donkey . Finally appetizer came with another server and it was taken away and held for for extra minutes before sitting on table in front of us. We got up and left. Never again. Better that than have words. Great food at a reasonable price! We have eaten at Bella Lisboa for many years and have found the food to be consistently excellent. Three weeks ago was our most recent adventure. We started with their fresh bread with goat cheese and honey -mmm to die for! Our main course was their steak and shrimp dinner special along with their Portuguese house wine. This surf and turf entree was wonderful. We chose to cook our food at the table on one of their preheated rocks. It was great fun and absolutely delicious food. We were in Chattanooga walking around the downtown and the walking bridge to the other shore. I start looking for dinner option and this restaurant pop up on Yelp. So we just give it a try. I am glad that we did. First off, the food are great and the services are nice. My wife orders the seafood skewer with the octopus and I have a Portugal seafood stew. I ordered vegetable paella. My husband ordered Ahi hot stone. The Ahi came on a metal hot plate and we turned it to cook it to our liking. Oh my! Yum yum yum! We've been coming here for brunch for years (even before I moved back). This is one of my favorite places. We used to come because Yaya was amazing but since her departure, it's been the atmosphere that's kept us coming back. Dawson is our favorite waiter/cook/host because he handles business anytime we are there. The pandemic has put everyone in awkward situations but Dawson has answered the call every single time. As our server noted, Bela Lisboa is the premier Portuguese restaurant in Chattanooga...and the only one. The decor was quite charming, as multiple people in our party noted.We enjoyed the goat cheese w/ fig appetizer drizzled with balsamic and honey, but would love to see the drizzle play a larger part in the dish. They have daily specials available, which is nice. A couple people in our party tried the creamy chicken special, which was pretty delicious and quite similar to chicken picatta. I had the sirloin on a rock. This was super cool and reminded me of the Hot Rock Fish appetizer that used to be available at Table Two. An extremely hot piece of granite is served with with 7-9 strips of cut sirloin sizzling on it. The idea is that you cook your protein to your desired temperature and then choose one of the several sauces they pair it with. Love this concept and it was executed flawlessly. Actually, I can't wait to return so I can try one of the fish options. Will definitely return to this spot to keep exploring the menu. read more

We stumbled into Bela Lisboa as the city was reopening from covid-19. We were greeted promptly and sat outside in the evening air. We started with French Onion soup (not traditional, but very good), the kids had mozzarella sticks (fantastic!), and proceeded to the main dishes. I would like to start off by saying date night with my husband at Bela Lisboa was good. We wanted a quick bite and drink special. We ordered appetizer clams, the octopus and vegetable paella. As I was ordering I pointed to eat item to be certain I was understood. This was our second time trying them out. The last time we were there was years ago when they first opened. Once the food came we needed salt. My husband had to go to the bar area to ask the Manager possibly owner with the beard for salt. 8 mins later he had to go back to the Manager and ask for salt again. The manager yelled at one of the servers to go get salt. We finished most of the food received the bill and saw $75. I was a little confused why it was more than expect, I asked the waiter why the octopus was almost $30 the one i ordered was $14. He has limited English so he asked the Manager to come. As soon as the Manager got to our table he was immediately rude and upset. I tried to ask about the check and he was short and aggressive. We paid the bill and left. We will never be returning. We usually spend on our weekly date nights and was hoping to give this place another try.... read more

We patronized this restaurant last night for the first time and LOVED IT! The atmosphere was great, the service was lovely and the food was wonderfully delicious. We started with the chicken wing appetizer. The dish was spicy, but not overly so. My husband had the Bacalhau, and it was so good. I had the picanha. The meat was juicy and tender. I had the Malbec, it was balanced with a wonderful fruit taste. For desert we had the lemon meringue, which is more like a moist cake. I don't recommend the coffee though. It was a little bit of a letdown. Overall, we are planning to visit it again with some friends pretty soon. read more

Fantastic! We started with the Caldo Verde soup. This is the first time I've found kale interesting. The soup didn't immediately do anything for me, but as I had more, I began to appreciate and savor its flavor. Then we had the Anéis de Lulas Panados (Breaded Calamari). These were okay, but not the star of the show and we've had better locally. What really did it for me was the Chicken Piri Piri sandwich. Everything about this sandwich was PERFECT. The bread was the best sandwich bread I've had in ages and the chicken was so tender, it was like a memory of chicken I'd eaten as a child. Seriously, most places you go the chicken is almost tough because the restaurant is scared of serving it undercooked. We asked the server about the chicken and she said they use a traditional marinade that can take days. The sandwich came with fries and while they were perfectly fine, the flavor of the sandwich was so much more powerful, it's like trying to compare a queen to her handmaids. read more

Our family had a fantastic dinner here. It was a Saturday night, and they were understaffed, so we were told the earliest available reservation was for 8pm. Because of a looming thunderstorm we showed up half an hour early. We were told they couldn't serve us yet, but we were seated, and menus and waters were brought out. Our orders were taken at 7:50, and wine and appetizers were on the table by 8:05. The food was absolutely amazing. This is a small restaurant with street parking and has small seating patio for warmer weather. I tried the seafood risotto which included scallops, shrimp & octopus. The seafood was cooked perfectly. The risotto was good but I felt it needed a little more flavor. Also tried the paella and it was delicious, with a wonderful aroma and flavor. The goat cheese appetizer had a honey drizzle and was really great. Prices range average of $15-20 per dish. Appetizers around $8. The chocolate mousse was delicious as was the lemon pie which was more of a cake with a thick lemon mousse type layer. The second visit in 6 months, gave the waitress the benefit of the doubt as she was new-- had the same server, never received appetizers or drinks, food brought out a dish at a time- my entire table was finished before my filet came back-- only 1 steak knife given to the table -- had to go to the bar to ask for our drinks and to make sure our appetizer was taken off our invoice. No manager around or if there was no regard for the $120 on dinner that offered nothing of previous experience- not any apologies from wait staff as to order that was mangled. We are local customers that have given this establishment several tries, this last experience shows that no one truly cares about their experience or if a customer will return. This restaurant doesn't take walk-ins anymore. The last few times I've gone there, I was turned away every time, even when they had plenty of empty tables. The bearded guy that is supposed to greet customers had a rude and disrespectful "what do you want" attitude that made me feel all but welcome. No people skills.
