The inside of Alleia is really one of the coolest I've ever been in. Gas lanterns, huge velvet drapes, a wall of melted wax candles. I loved it all. We had the cannellini bean bruschetta : delicious, the angel hair with shrimp: delicious, the baked rigate, mostly delicious. I have a hang up about veal. I tried the Southside slammer, and unless you REALLY like cucumber I would avoid. We also tried the silencing Bruno non alcoholic drink and it was really good. We had 7:30 PM reservations, and although we were running a little behind, our table was ready as soon as we arrived. We chose to sit outside on the covered patio, which was beautifully lit with twinkle lights and had a great atmosphere for a relaxed dinner. To start, we ordered the arancini. The flavor was good, but my wife and I both felt it could have used a bit more sauce. For our entrees, we had the rigatoni and the lasagna with Sunday sauce. Unfortunately, the rigatoni wasn't my favorite. The dish felt a little unbalanced, and the sauce was on the greasy side, which didn't pair particularly well with the noodles and lamb. The lasagna, however, was the standout of the evening. It was surprisingly light, and we loved the spinach noodles. The flavors came together beautifully and made it the best dish we tried. What arrived at our table was, generously speaking, a flat pancake wearing a cheese disguise -- topped with shredded beef that seemed just as confused about its life choices as the chef who plated it. Green? Green. I didn't order a lawn clipping casserole. I ordered lasagna -- the cornerstone dish, the anchor of any Italian menu worth its salt (of which this dish also needed more). Lasagna is not a canvas for creativity. It is a covenant. A sacred agreement between a restaurant and its guests that says: we know what we're doing here. This dish broke that covenant, shredded it, and apparently used it as a garnish. My recommendation? Locate the nearest Italian grandmother. Apologize to her. Take notes. Start over. read more

Jack went above and beyond without being asked, very knowledgeable and just created a memorable experience all together, five stars for the service alone. The lasagna was divine, the meat tasted just like birria, Jack brought out a little side of chili oil that made it a 10/10. The 2 wilted basil leaves could only carry the dish so far. Even a bit of salt in the water would have helped. No offer or sighting of fresh parm or cracked pepper (or hint of salt) We were taken aback by the Kraft/ sawdust looking powdered parm on a dish in an establishment that claims to be an Italian restaurant. The spaghetti was not just al dente (as you will find in Italy) it was undercooked. We thoroughly enjoy plain spaghetti with fresh parm and it has more flavor than this dish. Kitchen is open air The ambiance is a bit haphazard. Booths are enclosed by fabric covered plywood with a blanket accent attached to the back wall. You can see between the boards and some boards even lean. We watched one "wall" move as the guests left. Parking is not easy to find in the area. This is not unique to this establishment. If your lucky you can find street parking. They require reservations but we saw 4 other groups our entire meal. Service was adequate. We had to search for server for everything. But it is easy enough to find the entire waitstaff hanging out around the computer. Getting the attention is the difficult part. No inquiry into why 2 dishes barely touched. Sufficient dessert menu. Shared panna cotta. It was alright. Pizza may be decent based on the number of tables that ordered pizza (mostly as apps). No bread service. Not worth $200 for 4 people. read more

We had an excellent dinner at Alleia last week. Our server KiKi was fantastic. She was personable, attentive and great with recommendations. We ordered the mussels, the white bean bruschetta and the carpaccio. The mussels had great flavor and my husband said the were tender and quite a healthy portion. The carpaccio was like butter, just melt in your mouth goodness with the bright arugula and sharp cheese. Really enjoyed both of those. The bruschetta was ok, had good flavor but the beans kept falling off. It was a generous portion and we took two pieces home. The pasta tasted super fresh! They have a cream sauce that is similar to Alfredo we asked about. I didn't see it on the menu but perhaps it was there and I didn't see it. I got shrimp penne pasta with the cream sauce and my daughter got gnocchi with chicken sausage and mushrooms with the cream sauce. Oh my goodness, what a gem! 5 star dining in downtown Chattanooga. We loved our server, Cricket, who was well-versed in the entire menu, made several great recommendations and was prompt with drinks, refills and table service. Our table was on the very comfortable patio. We started with two of recommended drinks, the Tennessee old fashioned and Negroni; a plate of the bacon-wrapped dates and the caprese salad (more on this in a bit). Each of us selected a main dish (the shrimp and tagliatelle pasta and roast pork shoulder and ended our gastronomic adventure with a smooth Chattanooga roasted coffee and dessert (cinnamon gelato and tiramisu). Honestly, we would have been fine sharing a main dish as the portions are generous. But, choosing between homemade pasta and perfectly prepared shrimp and wood fired pork created conflict so we went for it. Happiness and joy!! So, about the Caprese salad - summer is here and the fresh heirloom tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and aged balsamic were above and beyond our expectations. Our tastebuds tingled and memories of summers past, picking the perfect red fruits from grandma's garden, launched our dining experience perfectly. (No photos unfortunately- we ate it too quickly!) To summarize -Alleia is wonderful. If you're in Chattanooga for a visit or are a native looking for a great date night restaurant, make the reservation. I had dinner recently at Alleia as part of an anniversary getaway with my wife. It has a great dark, moody vibe that makes for a great date place, and despite being busy it wasn't overly noisy where we were seated. Our server was top notch and made some great recommendations; they have more than just the usual Italian standards so it's a varied menu. We split a local lettuce salad which was very fresh; for mains I ordered an interesting baked pasta dish while my wife opted for a mushroom gnocchi with chicken sausage. Both entrees were great and we could tell the pastas were freshly made. The portions were very generous so we had some left to enjoy the next day. Be warned that the pasta size portions are larger than they appear in photos. We got calamari, bruschetta, & then a pasta dish for each of us, & dessert & it was borderline way too much food for 2 people. If I had to nitpick one thing - There was a spot on the reservation where you could mark if it was a special occasion or anniversary & we did so, but no one acknowledged or asked the whole night. Not a big deal, but I'm not sure what the point is if there is no acknowledgment. The table behind us got something special for a birthday, otherwise I probably wouldn't even put this in the review. We showed up on time for our reservation, but the restaurant had just opened so we still had to wait about 5 to 10 minutes for a table to be seated. We sat in the enclosed porch area where the temperature was just perfect. Once we were seated, our server promptly came over, took our drink orders and provided menus. We went with the Tennessee Mountain Road and the sangria. The Tennessee drink was similar to an old-fashioned and alcohol forward. The sangria was not overly sweet, but very fruity and tasty. We shared all dishes as our waitress's told us the portions were generous. We went with a grilled romaine, which had very thinly sliced pieces of apple, a generous helping of bra duro cheese, which was a hard but slightly nutty cheese and complemented perfectly with small chunks of salty guanciale(pork) pieces. The toppings were tossed in with the grilled romaine and a light vinaigrette type dressing. None of the flavors were bold or overpowering. Everything was very subtle, but all ingredients were complementary to each other. We also shared an order of bruschetta, which was a crispy, thinly sliced piece of sourdough bread topped with a whipped ricotta and covered with a truffle honey with a light sprinkling of herbs. I could've eaten this as a meal alone. The whipped ricotta was so sweet and delicious and paired really well with the truffle honey. Our main tray was the penne Bolognese, which was penne covered in a light tomato sauce, which had really good flavor and had a sprinkling of shredded cheese on top. The penne was made in house and it was cooked to the right consistency. The tomato sauce, like the salad, had subtle flavors, but it was seasoned just right. No overly garlic or onion flavor that overpowered the dish. Our server was very attentive, the dishes were all fantastic, the prices were reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber. After doing some brief reddit research on places to eat in Chattanooga, Alleia was the top hit! I ended up grabbing a res for a Saturday night on the porch! There is a paid parking lot next door for $15 but you could park for 10 hours. Very steep even though I'm used to Atlanta prices. I was seated right on time of my reservation. The inside was pretty dark and intimate but I'm glad I had a patio reservation! Cricket was my server and she was super great and attentive! She always checked in just enough to be sure I was helped and got what I needed. Honestly, some of the best service I have ever received! I ordered the big dog cocktail and a kale salad to start. The big dog cocktail was nice and strong! The kale salad I was really loving but about 5 bites I had were INCREDIBLY salty and no olives were in this bite. Just seems like the kale wasn't mixed that great, but majority of the salad was so nice. The bacon wrapped quail breast for me was stunning! It was cooked very nicely and moist and so flavorful! Only thing was there were 'strands' of something when I was eating the quail and pulled a strand out of my mouth with 3/4 pieces on my plate. Didn't love that. Courses were spaces out nicely and I never felt rushed. With just these two items, I was beyond stuffed leaving Alleia and would definitely come back to try the pastas and pizzas! The sauces here are authentic, spot on!! For real!! The Pappardelle with Veal is a five star winner! My first bite brought me back to my grandma's sauce, and that says it all. I absolutely love this place. We made reservations here for our one year anniversary dinner and everything was phenomenal, from the service to the food. We had come here a few months ago, because it had been recommended to us from our hotel and since we were back in town for our anniversary we knew we had to come here again. I am so glad we did. With the reservations we got seated immediately out on the patio. One cool thing I thought was that when making the reservation you could choose between inside and outside. Our server Madison greeted us right away and gave a great suggestion to my husband on what drink to try. He was debating between two cocktails and she recommended the My Name is Earl, which had plum infused bourbon, amaro, earl grey simple syrup and lemon. The drink was great a little sweet, fruity and a good kind of unique. It wasn't something that you find most places and tasted great. I got the pearly noticeable, which had peach puree, rosemary syrup, angostura, lemon and soda. It was nice light and refreshing. A very well done mocktail. For food we started with the bacon wrapped dates and then for entrees the venison and the braised beef short rib. The dates were creamy and a good mix of sweet and savory with the balsamic adding a nice little punch to them. The venison was amazing, super tender and the flavors with the pistachio pesto was mouthwatering. I am not normally fond of game meat but this made me change my mind. My husband and I loved it, for us it was better than the braised beef short rib. That is not to say that there was anything wrong with the short rib. It was juicy and super tender and the cherry added a nice tartness to it. Both dishes were great. Madison made sure that we had everything that we needed, checking in on us and just doing a fantastic job. She even brought us a complimentary scoop of their buttermilk blackberry gelati which was creamy and delicious. I am so glad we decided to come back here for dinner. Gorgeous dimly lit place with some great Italian cuisine offerings. The decor and vibe of this restaurant is beautiful and very romantic. You'll find lots of candles for ambience throughout, and funky artwork in an old-world looking setting. It's a lovely clash of traditional and modern. The staff were spot on and extremely friendly (shoutout to Thomas and Jeanie). Food was freshly prepared and phenomenal. Definitely recommend the bacon wrapped dates, gorgonzola fig prosciutto pizza, and Margherita pizza. Really lovely food in an unhurried atmosphere. To note: reservations are required and the parking lot requires payment. They do have giftcards for purchase as well. Also, while this restaurant is quite classy, they do not have a strict dress code. Rather, they encourage guests to dress for the event they are celebrating. So, I dont see an option to change my previous review, which was not stellar. Not because of the food, but because of the service. The management reached out to me after my last review and explained that they had just instituted a new system, which is why the service was lacking. He sent me a gift card to come back and try again. We did tonight and I have to say not only was the service excellent, the food was as amazing, as it's been previously, and we happily almost $400. I appreciate that he gave us the chance to come back and try again, as I live over over 100 miles away and travel to Chattanooga for weekends for the food scene. Alleia is a culinary MUST to experience while in Chattanooga. It's perfect for a special occasion, whether it's a date night, family dinner or girls night out. Definitely make a reservation because it gets busy on weekends! The front door is super heavy and the interior is dimly lit. We were seated in front of the open kitchen which was pretty cool to see. Our server was friendly and helped make good recommendations. Drinks were just ok for me - I'm a gin girl and there was only one option on the vast cocktail menu. The Edge of Darkness was a bit heavy for me - kind of Negroni-esque. I probably should have tried a wine instead. However, the Smoke Signals mezcal cocktail was actually a refreshing alternative.
