[[HIGHLIGHT]]The evening got off to a poor start when the hostess refused to seat us at one of the more private available tables and instead placed us at a small two-top right next to other diners, despite the restaurant not appearing full.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was pleasant, but unfortunately the food did not live up to the reputation or price point. The salads took an unusually long time to arrive and had virtually no flavor--just plain lettuce with very little to make them memorable. The mashed potatoes were equally bland, lacking seasoning and taste. My husband's ribeye was overcooked and nowhere near the quality we expected from a steakhouse that markets itself as a premier dining destination. To add to the disappointment, we were celebrating our anniversary. No special acknowledgment was offered, and we actually had to ask about dessert ourselves. For a restaurant that positions itself as a top-notch steakhouse, the overall experience simply did not justify the cost or expectations. My wife and I went for a weekday dinner I want to preface the service was excellent, everything was cooked perfectly (steak done at medium rare, pasta cooked perfectly) BUT the flavor was off. I ordered a medium rare 60 day dry aged Rib Eye, I loooovvveee Rib Eye who doesn't?! However, on a scale of 1-10 this was a 7ish. Once again something was just off. Lobster bisque (something was off in the sauce and it was the same sauce in her lobster ravioli) To me it was "fishy" to my wife it was too salty. French onion soup was good but I wouldn't get it again, I've had better at many other places. Mushrooms: I understand and read that it would have sesame but it was too much, it didn't compliment the steak at all, too much Asian inspired. My wife and I love mushrooms but we only ate a few bites. A glass of wine and an old fashioned complimented our meal. Upon entering this white tablecloth Chophouse located inside the Read House Hotel, you are immersed in luxury and service. Every course is delivered with flair and style. From the pouting of our wine to the last bite it is a menagerie of culinary excellence! Our server, dressed in his white tux, was eloquently smooth and comforting. We started with an enormous Seafood Tower with Oysters, Lobster Jumbo Shrimp and Lump Crab Cocktail. Then, in my opinion, the best dish in the table, Fried Frog Legs, perfection on a plate. I followed suit with the most luxurious Lobster Bisque that was light and creamy with a hint of Brandy. I ordered the Chilean Sea-bass Primavera. The restaurant may be fairly small, but the atmosphere is excellent and the service, superb! Each dish we got (2 soups, 2 steaks, and a side, along with 2 fantastically delicious drinks) was prepared excellently with fresh, quality ingredients, an excellent cut of beef, seasoned to perfection, and served with care. The price is a bit up there, but you absolutely get what you pay for here, and the place should not be missed when looking for a nice, upscale steakhouse-type restaurant experience in Chattanooga... especially if you have doubts just because it's attached to a hotel. The staff is very friendly and seasoned as well as the steaks! For starters, their drink menu is massive but if you want a signature cocktail, Revenge of Mr. Neatherly is the one for you! Simple, delicious, and a nice light cocktail before the meal. My husband had the 8oz filet. I had the special for the evening, the Filet Oscar, and we ordered the White Truffle Mac n Cheese with Lobster for the table. Food came out quickly and steaks cooked to perfection! The Filet Oscar had an added lump crab cake and Bearnaise over the top. It all melted in your mouth! The Mac n Cheese was an excellent addition to the meal as well. The hostess was super kind, our water glasses stayed topped off, and I could go on-and-on about how friendly and knowledgeable our server was. We tend to split meals, and I appreciated that both our salad and steak were split in the kitchen before being brought to our table. One guest ordered a NY strip med-rare that was clearly over, especially compared to the other steaks on the table.
