Perfect French onion soup, Chilean Sea Bass, center-cut Filet Mignon, an amazing bread plate and strawberry moscato was a delicious meal. The evening got off to a poor start when the hostess refused to seat us at one of the more private available tables and instead placed us at a small two-top right next to other diners, despite the restaurant not appearing full. Our server was pleasant, but unfortunately the food did not live up to the reputation or price point. The salads took an unusually long time to arrive and had virtually no flavor--just plain lettuce with very little to make them memorable. The mashed potatoes were equally bland, lacking seasoning and taste. My husband's ribeye was overcooked and nowhere near the quality we expected from a steakhouse that markets itself as a premier dining destination. To add to the disappointment, we were celebrating our anniversary. No special acknowledgment was offered, and we actually had to ask about dessert ourselves. For a restaurant that positions itself as a top-notch steakhouse, the overall experience simply did not justify the cost or expectations. This restaurant is worth all the fanfare and money that you pay. If you want elegance and to be waited on and taken care of then this is a wonderful restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this for a family, but if it's a special occasion and it's just the two of you, I t's a great place to enjoy a wonderful steak and sides. My husband had the ribeye and the cheddar mashed potatoes. He said that that was one of the best steaks he's ever had and the potatoes were absolutely delicious with that touch of Gruyère cheese. I opted for something a little different I went with a shrimp cocktail and a wedge salad. We both shared our meals, and it was a great combination. We also got the bread plate, which was absolutely delicious with a garlic butter and a honey butter. Our waiter was simply over the top. He was fantastic and we were celebrating my husband's retirement and so they brought us a crème brûlée to celebrate at the end. Just a wonderful, wonderful experience and evening. The lobster ravioli I ordered was pretty good even though it certainly it was the same sauce for the later bisque. There was a good amount of seafood in the lobster ravioli. My husbands steak was nothing special, and we love a good steak. Finally, we ordered a side of mushrooms that were nothing special good, and I love cooked mushrooms. I ordered a medium rare 60 day dry aged Rib Eye, I loooovvveee Rib Eye who doesn't?! However, on a scale of 1-10 this was a 7ish. Once again something was just off. Lobster bisque (something was off in the sauce and it was the same sauce in her lobster ravioli) To me it was "fishy" to my wife it was too salty. French onion soup was good but I wouldn't get it again, I've had better at many other places. Mushrooms: I understand and read that it would have sesame but it was too much, it didn't compliment the steak at all, too much Asian inspired. My wife and I love mushrooms but we only ate a few bites. A glass of wine and an old fashioned complimented our meal. The food was ok, very costly for the quality. The crab cakes were good. We ordered our steaks medium well, and they were pick through out and bleeding. We are not the types to send things back so we will reheat it. The sides were ok as well. The brownie sundae was very good, had cherries. Everything is à la cart. We went for a special occasion, Valentines. I'm not sure how else to portray this fine dining establishment but then to start with five stars! I will however attempt to paint this picture for you. Upon entering this white tablecloth Chophouse located inside the Read House Hotel, you are immersed in luxury and service. Every course is delivered with flair and style. From the pouting of our wine to the last bite it is a menagerie of culinary excellence! Our server, dressed in his white tux, was eloquently smooth and comforting. We started with an enormous Seafood Tower with Oysters, Lobster Jumbo Shrimp and Lump Crab Cocktail. Then, in my opinion, the best dish in the table, Fried Frog Legs, perfection on a plate. I followed suit with the most luxurious Lobster Bisque that was light and creamy with a hint of Brandy. I ordered the Chilean Sea-bass Primavera. It was perfectly cooked, floating in a most excellent Miso laced with Ginger and Lavender and an assortment of finely julienned vegetables. It was utterly scrumptious! read more

Location and Parking Located in downtown Chattanooga, valet is free and is located directly outside of the restaurant. Service Our server, Alan, had many years of experience as a server and bartender. The creole sauce it came with made up for that. I would order this again 10 times over. Center Cut Filet: A. Tasty and tender. We had it made medium rare plus. Four Cheese Potato Gratin: B. Nothing special. It was supposed to have 4 different cheeses, but I could only taste the cheddar. Hence, it turned out to be rather boring. Chilean Sea Bass Primavera: C. Although the fish was perfectly cooked with a nice crust, it was woefully underseasoned. And the fumet tasted like nothing. The julienned vegetables were the tastiest things on the plate. The restaurant may be fairly small, but the atmosphere is excellent and the service, superb! Each dish we got (2 soups, 2 steaks, and a side, along with 2 fantastically delicious drinks) was prepared excellently with fresh, quality ingredients, an excellent cut of beef, seasoned to perfection, and served with care. The price is a bit up there, but you absolutely get what you pay for here, and the place should not be missed when looking for a nice, upscale steakhouse-type restaurant experience in Chattanooga... especially if you have doubts just because it's attached to a hotel. The staff is very friendly and seasoned as well as the steaks! For starters, their drink menu is massive but if you want a signature cocktail, Revenge of Mr. Neatherly is the one for you! Simple, delicious, and a nice light cocktail before the meal. My husband had the 8oz filet. I had the special for the evening, the Filet Oscar, and we ordered the White Truffle Mac n Cheese with Lobster for the table. Food came out quickly and steaks cooked to perfection! The Filet Oscar had an added lump crab cake and Bearnaise over the top. It all melted in your mouth! The Mac n Cheese was an excellent addition to the meal as well. A friend and I shared the tomahawk med-rare. Cooked perfectly. Drink menu was extensive and well done, the cocktails were mixed well and unique to the restaurant. Only reason it's not 5-stars. One guest ordered a NY strip med-rare that was clearly over, especially compared to the other steaks on the table. When she brought it up our waiter who was otherwise excellent challenged her on it - even when placed next to another cut that was cooked accurately to medium rare.
