The UPD did not disappoint as usual. I was a student here 20 years ago (eaten here at least 500 times) and we are here from out of town for a wedding. I stopped by with my sons so that they can meet the owner. We were lucky he was in! The hospitality and food we had was off the charts! The pizza here is wonderful. That's what I usually have. My wife even used to work here. We met because I was a frequent visitor of the restaurant! The UPD holds a special place in our hearts. Was fun to stop in today and not only get some good food but see and old friend. We miss the old UPD with the bigger space, but the food is as good as ever. Look at that picture! That is one incredible plate of food! Every bite is delicious. Chicken shawarma at its best. Served with rice, pita bread , hummus and salad this winning combination left me satisfied and eating my leftovers as I was packing them up. The chicken is tender and flavorful and the hummus is the best . Located across the street from the college it's a regular for students and locals. Service is wonderful and friendly. I have visited UPD more than several times since I've lived on the UTC campus. Every one of those visits has been really good! Every time I come here I get the onion rings and the beef gyro. The owner Akram is a very nice gentleman! Regardless of what you think about his views. He is always courteous and kind to me every time I pay his establishment a visit. Highly recommend getting the humus with meat and onions!!! His bread is great too. And the owner is very kind and funny guy!

Great food, friendly, convenient location. Prices are very fair. Closest restaurant within walking distance of the UTC gym besides the cafeteria. I recommend the Kiftah. My only complaint is the rice is rather plain, but everything else is always very well seasoned. They apparently deliver in Chattanooga for free, though I've never used that service. read more

Absolutely terrible. I don't know where to start. All vegetables were rotten and warm, especially the lettuce which was clearly wilted and old. The chicken was dry and tasted strange, the pita was store bought and heated, the falafel tasted like chemicals, the rice was hard and dry. I ordered pickup and it took way too long, the girl at the register was like a zombie, she had no mask on and in fact there was ZERO covid precautions. This looks like a business on its way out. I absolutely love Greek food. Like all of it. And I really wanted to love this but none of us were happy with out takeout order. Hummus was bitter, falafel was barely edible and the gyro was edible at best. Also didn't come with any tzatziki. Overall would not recommend or eat there again, especially with other options close by. read more

LOVE the baba ghanouj and other Mediterranean salads. Super-friendly owner. Beware addiction to his fries. Dip them in his tzatziki and you'll be a goner too. First visit. Really nice and friendly waitresses. Menu looked great. But no one could tell me if the gyro meat was frozen strips or if its cooked and shaved off a cone. So I opted for the pizza and a side of flafels. The flafels were a shade or two under black. Completely overcooked and very hard. Now in regards to the pizza it may just be my preference or lack of preference in this case. The crust has the consistency and texture of bread. Kind of like Bisquick if you've ever made that kind of pizza dough at home. There was a lot of sugar in the dough as well. Then the pizza sauce was extremely sweet on top of that. Maybe that's a style of pizza I've never had before and it's supposed to be sweet and feel like bread when you eat it. I really hate to not like this place due to just the workers alone. I had hoped to speak to the owner before ordering because I was told he loves meeting new people is really friendly. But the waitress didn't know where he was at. And again the staff is so friendly I wanted so much for this to be a place I would come back to. Maybe I'll try some other items later and give it another shot. read more

Terrible, the owner of this restaurant is unprofessional as it gets. When I had gone with my friends the other day, the owner was a complete douche to his newest employee at the time. When she had had misunderstood something on the 3rd day she had worked there, it went out on her right in front of all of the other customers. It is one thing to take them to the side and say it to them in private, but he started yelling at her right on the spot. Later when some police officers came in, one of them being a girl. He was so sexist, only speaking to the male and then kissing the dude butt. I will never go to this place again. If you're reading this I would go somewhere else. Very disappointed, not in the employees( they work hard), the owner. Pitiful read more

My diet is halal except for the copious amount of alcohol I drink. Halal is not as restrictive as kosher, basically the only restriction is you can't eat pork. But shellfish and everything else is ok except non-halal ingredients (i.e. blood, human body parts, carcass of animals, animals with fangs or claws, birds of prey). But the reason I like halal is the same reason I like kosher; it applies some rules to how food is handled and prepared. But both kosher and halal have some slaughter techniques for animals that probably are not very humane, so I do question that, but in each case the meat is superb. Now, after my long winded start, great place. And the food is halal. I like the format of the restaurant. I basically hate table service, finding it pretentious and offensive. So I like the deli format of this restaurant, where you order at a counter. They have some nice dishes. It's pretty much what you would expect from a Middle Eastern deli kiosk anywhere in the world. It's a recipe that has been refined over centuries. But this place does it well, and they provide a comfortable atmosphere to consume the food as well. One thing that pissed me off was the ordering process was too slow. They need a second cashier because the line was too long. Also, I liked their Greek salad but it was too Americanized. I prefer something more like a fattoush without bread. read more

Very mediocre, inconsistent quality. A new (and worse experience) every visit. Recently opened but the owner (Akram) is already cutting corners by substituting lower quality ingredients (e.g. burrito bread instead of authentic Lebanese bread, rotisserie chicken instead of shawarma meat, etc.).
