BeerFarm is a pretty cool tap room located in a pretty cool area in Riverside dubbed the "Food Lab". They have an assortment of tasty beers ranging from blondes to DIPAs to stouts to even wine. One awesome thing about this spot is they have A LOT of local craft beers on tap, which I love!! They have wicks, route 30, Ritual, Hanger, Garage and others, which is pretty cool to see. #supportlocal Their beers are very affordable, for a 16oz pour, it's about 6-7 dollars and their tasters are about 3 dollars. All the bartenders are friendly, helpful, and willing to give suggestions on the different beers. I love discovering new craft beers. I usually don't feel the need to write reviews for negative experiences; everyone has terrible days, and especially for events as busy as the Festival of Lights, I understand the commotion of huge crowds can be overwhelming for those in the service industry. As someone who deals with their fair share of disgruntled patrons, I empathize with what bartenders and servers deal with. However, there is nothing as uncalled for as unwarranted hostility. On 12/9, my gf and I were sitting at the bar eating food from Fufu's and drinking some beers (from Beerfarm, purchased by my brother for us) , while my brother and his gf were standing behind us. They had given up their seats at the bar for us so we could eat since there was no space elsewhere. As soon as we finished eating, and while my brother closed the tab, a bartender approached us, took our drinks away (mine was empty, but my gf hadn't finished hers), and asked us if we needed anything. We said no, and immediately, his demeanor and tone changed, and told us the seats were for paying customers. I was confused at what he said because my brother bought us drinks, which he literally watched us drink. We just didn't want to drink any more than that. There were other patrons around us nursing their drinks while they watched the hockey game, so I also don't understand why he felt it was warranted to "call us out" in particular. At first, I felt there was some maybe some confusion or miscommunication. However, I have been thinking about this exchange the entire weekend, and I decided to write this review because never in my 10 years of working in the service industry have I ever felt appropriate to be such as a** to somone that wasn't an a** to me first. I don't think anything we did warranted that. I doubt the bartender that said this to me will read this, but in the offchance that you do, next time, keep your comments to yourself. Went from 5 stars to 1, let me tell you why. Came in with a few friends after work, had just got done eaten at DDLP (5 stars) We decided to grab a beer before we left, we arrived at 10:40. They close, just like every other vendor at 11. We understood that and were only planning on having one beer, which is all we had. Our conversation carried over that 11 o'clock closing time. There was at least 8-10 more guest still having a beer of their own, so we figured we were okay. We continued our conversations. Around 11 or so we had a security guard come to us and told us to hurry with our beer. Mind you, we had just sat down. As we passed the 11 o'clock time. We saw him approach a bartender and saw him clearly say "are they okay" this is where we believe she was at fault. She did not clearly say yes or no. If you are a bar and are closing at 11 AND are still serving drinks until 10:59, please don't expect us to sit down and down our drinks. We are in our 30s and have no intention on doing so. I think this is where she could have taken ownership and said "no they are not bothering anyone, they are okay" At 11:20 (other guest are still having their drinks) yes he did come around at about 11:10 and told us to hurry. But seeing that we were not the only ones around, we didn't consider it an issue. This when the security guard comes around and loudly says "no, they are with the bar. They are okay" So just because we are in no association with the bar, we are not okay? Are we delaying them anymore so then the guest still having drinks?? We didn't think so and told him several times as the staff just continued with their duties. If you still have guest having their drinks and we are finishing ours, how are we affecting your closing duties? Food Lab/Beerfest. Need to come to somewhat of an agreement and have either a cut off time for serving drinks or take control of their own surroundings, if not this will continue to happen and will turn into a bigger mess in the future. Mango Hef and Marshmallow Stout are my favs!! Mango is super refreshing, a nice summer drink, while the Marshmallow Stout is very sweet and smells amazing! Flights come in 5oz and they give you plastic cups if you are planning on walking around! They rotate their beer selection, which is nice because you never know what you're going to get the next time you go, but you might also not see your favorites again. This place is located inside the Food Lab in downtown Riverside. Great idea for a place but hardly any bar seating, and seemed a bit overwhelmed before the holiday season. I got one beer pretty fast but it seemed like others waited a bit longer. That being said, staff was friendly and they had a lot of beers from all over available on tap, either at the bar or in plastic cups to take around with you while you peruse other options in the Food Lab. Everyone seemed super knowledgeable and friendly. Glad I checked it out, but as someone who checks out these places solo, I think it was a bit harder to find a place to sit than I expected. This could also be because it is pretty new and also had different basketball games playing, while the other areas of the Lab didn't have sports showing. read more
