Black Barrel

My partner and I stopped here during a quick trip through Lima. What an awesome spot. The restaurant is big, open and beautiful! We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by very friendly bartenders who took great care of us. The Happy Hour menu is full of great deals and great food. We both had a couple beers. We ordered some cheese curds as an appetizer, which were awesome! Then the Pepperoni and Parmasano happy hour pizza. The pizza was delicious! Nice thin crust and lots of pepperoni and gooey cheese. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a great spot in Lima and the Happy hour is fantastic!

Took me a while to get to this review, and ultimately its going to be a negative one. It saddens me, because I know a bunch of locals who rave about Beer Barrel and told me to come for great service and good pizza. My family and I came one weekend, a while ago for some food. We were quickly sat down. Now, the first strike against them was the windowsill next to us was rather dusty. I have a thing about restaurants needing to be clean and yeah that may sound minor but it all adds up. We ordered the Spinach and artichoke dip... which was really good. We also ordered drinks, my brother had a beer so nothing special. I ordered a Mud Slide and my mom ordered a Pina Colada. Both drinks were perfectly made! We also ordered some buffalo wings, which were serviceable. Still this part of the experience was the highlight of our meal. We all ordered our main courses. My mom had spaghetti and meatballs. My brother and I ordered each a 10 inch big-ga meatza pizza. I think my brother added something on his but don't exactly remember. So the food took quite a while to make... know it may take a while but it felt like 30 minutes or more... problem was... i got my pizza, my mom got her spaghetti... my brother did not. Seems that order was not put in. Yeah... so my brother got to watch us eat while he had to wait for his food. By the time he got his pizza, we were finished. The pizza also was rather dense... too dense. My mom did not like her meatballs. The experience was a mess. The waitress and manager both tried to make it right. They comped something on our order, and offered to buy us something else but honestly we just wanted to go home. Disappointing because I love pizza and would have loved to add another place to eat locally.

Nice portions! The lemon vinaigrette is pretty good with both salads. Chicken must always accompany hot sauce of some sort, so I opted to try the parmesan garlic (add the habanero) and the mango habanero. Really good. Their wings are tasty, and the pizza is loaded. Sampled a lot of good items. Most notable is the service. Incredible. Felt welcomed, and we were well served.

We stopped by the Beer Barrel for a lunch in a large group. Beer Barrel offers a rather large menu, with plenty of appetizer and entree options. We started with the pretzel sticks and they were solid. I really enjoyed the spicy whole grain mustard dipping sauce with my pretzels. The others in my party had the spinach and artichoke dip and were happy too. I tried the deep dish pizza with EBA (everything but anchovies). The pizza was good without being spectacular. The crust was just on the dry side and the toppings were a touch soggy. Still, the sauce and toppings felt fresh and my partner was happy with his slices. Service was fast and friendly and the prices were reasonable.

It has been a while since I have had Beer Barrel pizza and it still tastes the same as the last time we came thru Lima. I personally like it better than the other pizza place in town. The dough is great tasting as well as the topping they use. I will be back to this place for sure.

Well, it was bound to happen. Visit number 5 (3/7/21 @ 11:30) and we encountered a less than personable server named Tiffany. Just no personality. She provided "acceptable" service but that was it. It was weird from the beginning. We arrived before they were busy to ensure a table for 6. There were ample tables available and the hostess asked if we would like to sit in the enclosed patio. Why would we want that when we go there for the ambience and especially when they weren't even busy yet. Had to scratch my head on that one. The pizza and garlic knots were spectacular as always, but the server and hostess overshadowed what is normally a fun time with their poor hospitality.

It's your typical sports bar with pretty good food. It's one of the better American traditional style restaurants in Lima.

The Met has a policy that your server gets to proudly wear a crown if their name is mentioned in a five star review. Love that policy!! Wear it proudly Ashely!! The Met is a unique building downtown Lima. It was built in the late 1880's and was originally home to the The Metropolitan Bank. It has since been morphed into a restaurant with very attractive original features. The wood floors and plaster ceilings...along with the attractive decor really enhance the dinning experience! The team here is very friendly, professional and welcoming. Ashley was outstanding. She hustled, knew her menu and had great recommendations. Ashley was very attentive and helped us enjoy the evening. I appreciated Liz stopping by and welcoming us. Liz shared lots of history and helped us appreciate the facility. The Met has a large food menu that has something for everyone. They have a large selection of beverages and specialty cocktails. All at reasonable prices. We started with a couple of Mule drinks. One was a designer St. Patrick's Day Mule and their specialty Met Mule. Both were very tasty, cool and refreshing . We started with the Focaccia bread appetizer. It had a lightly golden/chewing top with a soft and moist inside. Liz said that they make the bread fresh three times a day. The bread had a slight olive oil taste with a mild amount of Italian herbs. The soft whipped butter was a nice add. The side salad had lots of fresh spring greens. There was a few tasty tomatoes and lots of stronger tasting onions. The thin Parmesan cheese shreds were an excellent touch. The house ranch dressing was very smooth/light/creamy moderately thin with a mild ranch taste. My wife had the chicken bacon ranch flatbread. The crust was thin and crispy. She really liked the ranch house made sauce and how it accented the meat toppings. I had the Met Meatloaf which had an outstanding meat flavor. The meat was made with Italian sausage which had a slightly spicy kick. It was moist and tender to go along the beefy taste. The smooth red sauce on top was slightly sweet & spicy. It accented the meat nicely. The mashed potatoes were real with lumps, eyes and minute peel pieces. Very smooth and delicious! The grilled asparagus had a slight crisp to go along with the tender stalk. Not much seasoning detected...just a nice olive oil taste. Overall a fantastic dinner experience. We sat street level and watched the pedestrians come & go while enjoying the decor of this unique facility! The menu is large and the food and drinks are outstanding. A special trip to The Met in downtown Lima is worth a try!

We arrived at 11:30 and left at 2. They were nice to let us linger. Everything we had was terrific. Soups are made in-house. I'm thinking most all things on the very large menu were probably very good. They seem to care about the details. We also shared some ice cream cookie sundae concoction that was 5*. Metered parking on the street and there was a free lot but it was full. Meters were $2 for two hours. Nice staff and there were no staff shortages! Lilly our server was perfect. If we pass through again we will stop in! The bar area is exquisite.

The floor was dirty, my shoes stuck to the floor. The high chair my toddler used was sticky and grimy, probably hasn't been cleaned in a while. I asked for a high chair 3 times. Meanwhile the hostess and server said they'd bring it. They didn't but they watched as I struggled with my toddler. My husband finally got the high chair, 3 feet from our table. Not sure why they kept saying they'd bring it but wouldn't. We also asked for kids menus numerous times. They had to print them and the printer wasn't working right. That honestly boggled my mind that there's no back up. Then the server came and asked what we'd like to order when we still didn't have a kids menu. I said I'd love to order and reminded her we had no kids menu. She just stared at me. I had to ask if she could just tell us what was on the kid's menu so we could order. I got a Caesar salad, about 1/3 of it was rotten lettuce, barely any green romaine. Several chunks of the ends that were inedible. A family member ordered the pick 2. They were out of green beans and pickles. I ordered a medium rare steak, it came out basically well. The flavor was alright, not the best, not awful. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak. He said the fries and sandwich were good, but the bun could've been toasted. My 2 year old got mashed potatoes. I asked for a spoon for him. She brought a huge tablespoon for him. I explained nicely again the spoon was for the two year old. She stared at me. I asked if she could get a small spoon as it's for the toddler. She came out and was kind of snippy saying "this is the smallest spoon we have" bringing the teaspoon, which is what's appropriate for a 2 year old. If our family members hadn't suggested coming here, we wouldn't. I would not recommend Lock Sixteen.

I started with a gummy bear cocktail, which was just like drinking a strawberry Jolly Rancher. Then my date & I were served toasted ravioli as our appetizer... they were perfect! Crispy on the outside, soft & tasy on the inside. The marinara complimented the ricotta and breaded pasta well. For my meal, I had some yummy fried shrimp with cocktail sauce. I was very pleased. My curly fried potato wedges (don't call them curly fries!) were crisp on the outside & soft inside. I really enjoyed them. My side of fruit & side salad with balsamic vinaigrette were fine, neither great nor terrible. My fiancé had some delicious chili, though it was cold when served. Out waitress obliged our request to reheat it & when it came back out, it was just right. The cornbread was moist, sweet, and "cakey." I'm from North Carolina &, let me just say, the cornbread was some of the best I've had in ages. The chicken sandwich was good. We ordered some cinnamon caramel pretzel bites (like cinnamon sugar balls) to go & I can attest that they didn't last long the next day when they were warmed up. Overall, this was a nice meal in a quaint Ohio downtown. Should we return to Lima, we'll stop in at 318 again!
