Ever since coming to live in the area, I have been told by several people how delicious Milano Cafe is. They would rave about the food. After hearing it for a few years, my family and I came by one weekend to try it out. Sadly to say we were disappointed. Driving to it, the outside is actually quite nice. It looks like a quaint and rustic Italian mom and pop restaurant. When you go inside, well it looks like a rather old basic bar. The atmosphere, in other words, ends at the door. There was no wait and we were immediately sat down. My brother and I ordered beer, my mother wine and we also ordered some apps. My brother got a caesar salad and we all got the mozzarella marinara. These were some thick and hearty mozzarella sticks. They did not taste or look store bought and were the highlight of the meal. I ordered for main course the Pork Chop Augustino, while my mom and brother each had their own pasta dish. All the dishes are hearty it seems but the taste is the part that needs work. The Pork Chop Augustino was ok... it was a bit bland actually. My family disliked the pasta dishes. We left most of the food and left feeling dissatisfied. Maybe it was an off day, we are not sure. Ive been comin to Lima for years and Ive never thought about gettin pizza from this place until this weekend so here it is.........Not bad but not good. Ya ever tasted somethin and said "This doesn't taste like anything" well that's the pizza. I asked for extra sauces of course and it had no flavor at all. They make their own Italian sausage and it was jus ok. It had a bunch of cheese which didn't taste like anything either and the crust was too chewy and flavorless. We got meatball too. They were cooked right and from scratch so that's the good news. They added the flavorless sauce to them and it didn't do the meatballs any favors. I will give this joint another try but I will get somethin without their red sauce. read more

Had my mother's surprise birthday party here and the staff at Milano's did a great job taking care of the 30 people in attendance. We got the Tour of Italy appetizer which included portables mushrooms, calamari and mozzarella sticks or should I say logs because those things were huge and everything was good. I had the pesto pasta dish and added a side salad. The bread was brought out, complimentary, to start and it was delish. The melted garlic butter and cheese was epic. We asked for a box to take it home. It was plentiful, even for our table of 4. The house salad was fine - unusual for a house salad which I actually really appreciate. Kalamata, chickpea, bell peppers, lettuce, tomato, onion - the works. But that pasta..... perfectly cooked - fresh flavors and the best size. We had come from out of town and the pictures of the place looked cute. When we walked in the building had a weird sewage smell to it. Staff wasn't very friendly from the get go. They gave us attitude when we were unaware that you sit yourself and you can only sit in specific tables. The whole atmosphere just felt unpleasant and off. The staff seemed annoyed. When our food came out it was cold. My friend got the fettuccine and when I tasted it, it had absolutely no flavor. It literally tasted like milk and noodles, parmesan couldn't even save the dish. Mine was just very mediocre. The pasta wasn't fully cooked and the sauce tasted like a bottled marinara. The only thing pleasant was the meatball as well as our bread. The Caesar salad had a weird fishy smell and taste unlike any other we've had. Another customer complained of waiting long and receiving cold food while we were eating. Our waitress yelled back at him and told him "this isn't fazolis"....unfortunately I think I would have rather went there. The whole experience was just so disappointing. It left us with upset stomachs and still hungry. We were very nice even though we had a feeling we should've left from the start. I ordered a chicken dish I'm not sure the name and my husband ordered raviolis and they were just amazing. They have house made garlic cheese bread just we just loved it. I wouldn't describe it as good fresh made from scratch Italian food. It is way overpriced for what the food is, which was just OK. My wife and I travel quite frequently and always prefer to eat at local establishments rather than commercial chain restaurants, but after eating here we should have gone to Olive Garden instead. The bread was still doughy and tasted like the frozen loafs one buys at the grocery store. It was not fresh bread, which was disappointing for an Italian restaurant. The salads were fresh and nicely chilled, but we requested no onions on them and when we received them... they had onions. Which I know.. isn't that big of an issue, but it does indicate that they were pre-made and they couldn't be bothered to remove the onions. As for our entrees, I ordered the Chicken Nunzia which was fairly decent, but the sauce tasted like it came out of a package with some fresh mushrooms added. It was heavy with sodium and had a presertative like taste to it. It was definitely not made from scratch. My wife ordered veal piccata and it was so bad she sent it back. It was not only cold, but tasteless and swimming in oil and not good olive oil, which doesn't make a difference, too much oil is not good, but it does indicate the type of Italian kitchen it is-subpar. They did replace her meal, but the waitress copped an attitude. My wife rarely returns her food, but for the price (23.00) she thought the piccata should be hot, good, and at the least taste like piccata. She also lived in New Orleans for 20 years and knows what fresh, good Italian food tastes like and sadly to say, this is not it. To top it off the proprietor couldn't even be bothered to make an inquiry about the sent back meal or offer an apology for the inconvenience. Which indicated to me he really doesn't care about the quality of the food or the guests' experience at his establishment. My guess for the poor quality of the food is the kitchen is ran by a line cook and not a chef. A real chef would be embarrassed by the food served at Cafe Milano, as should the proprietor be, but apparently he is satisfied serving subpar over priced food. As for the snippy waitress, she should remember she is working for tips. read more

Googled "salads near me" they came up so I stopped in to see what their salads were like. I gotta say the "Tuscan" was great. super fresh looking (no wilty or bad lettuce all super green), and TONS of fresh fruit of different types (strawberries, thin apple slices, melon, and grapes). It had some fresh grated cheese (not a lot) and came with some type of sweet vinaigrette. I added a grilled chicken breast. Only wish I had taken a pic for this, as I ate it back at the hotel so fast I was half way thru.. oops too late. Staff was friendly. Wish I had gotten an ice cream I saw go out while I was waiting, or the Tiramisu Gelato I overheard someone ordering, but I have to stick to just the salads. This place was pretty good! I needed vegetarian food, and they had a couple of options for me. I tried a summer fruit salad plate with sorbet for a light lunch, and it was very yummy. Service was very good, and the atmosphere was peaceful. Ok, 6 months later I'm dropping down to 3 stars. There are two vegetarian things -- pasta with red sauce or pasta with white sauce -- and the server never refilled my water. I'd go back, but I'm not wanting to endorse the place. read more

First time trying this restaurant. My husband and I were away from home and wanted to try a new Italian restaurant. Based on reviews/rating we thought this would be a good place to try. Unfortunately we likely won't be returning. I ordered the wild mushroom fettuccine and asked to substitute broccoli for the house salad. I was informed that I could do a cup of soup but the broccoli would be an up charge. However on the menu the side of broccoli was $3.50 and the cup of soup was $3.99. Even after bringing to their attention they still said they would have to up charge at least $1.75 for the broccoli. The breadsticks were good but our waitress did not ask if we wanted seconds and was sure to bring seconds to another table. The steak came well done, and sure didn't look like a sirloin... anyway, the mushroom were good but slightly over seasoned. The mashed potatoes were tasteless on the other hand, and lacked seasoning... I didn't care for the dish and didn't even eat half of it, when asked I did tell them the steak was overcooked, they offered to replace it, but I wasn't interested... they did not remove anything from my check and charged me the full $19.99 for the entree... We were here for a late Christmas gathering on Dec. 26, 2021. There were 6 of us. All the food was swimming in olive oil and no seasoning. Even the shrimp was oily. I ordered the Pita Gyro but with chicken. Something they called chicken was gross. I actually ask the waitress if this was real chicken. Waitress was "Jessica". Friendly but not attentive. The food was excellent today! The meatballs were HUGE and amazing. The side salads were exceptionally good... the shaved cheese was a perfect topping! I had classic spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious. My son had a fish bruschetta that he thought was good but that he would never get again due to the saturated roasted tomatoes. Our waitress was the downfall. She seemed to be the only one on the floor, although it wasn't busy at the time we went. She kept complaining of being hot. The last thing one wants is to provide a negative review for a local restaurant, especially when the staff greeting you seems friendly. But my gawd what I got was much worse than what an elementary school serves on their "Italian day". In 20+ years of eating Italian at establishments big and small across the US, Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Palermo and so on; I have never seen anything like it - I'm not holding it to Italian-food-in-Italy standards, I'm saying Olive Garden seems like something from the heavens compared to this. I ordered food to go. The calamari was cheap, small, stringy and heavily breaded. The portabella sticks had an insane amount of moisture. The bread was just undercooked, seemed like frozen bread that was done in a microwave instead of an oven. The star of the show was my seafood pasta. I'd asked for fettuccini which they obliged - I wasn't expecting house-made pasta, but I have never had such stringy, overcooked pasta since I boiled Barilla to death in college. There was no seasoning in the pasta - none, even no salt. No basil. And the seafood was something I have never seen, ever. Think of the tiniest scallops you have seen, then think of something a fifth of that size. Diced shrimp pieces, perhaps a total of 2 salad shrimp. I could go on but you get the picture. I'm sorry dear owner - you seemed friendly and interested in your patrons. I just wish there was - forget a chef - even just a basic cook in the kitchen who had ever seen an Italian cooking show. read more

We would like to thank the Milano Cafe for providing a funeral luncheon for our family. We had made previous arrangements with another establishment for the luncheon and due to 3 inches of snow the previous night before the day of the funeral the restaurant failed to notify us that they were not going to open. Our family arrived at the restaurant only to find a sign posted "closed due to weather". We quickly made a call to Milano's to see if they could provide a buffet for 40 people and they were able to accommodate our family with less than a 15 minute notice of our family arriving. They provided a lovely buffet with lemon chicken, pasta, green beans, salad and bread in less than a 30 minute wait. The food was delicious!!! We cannot thank the owner and staff enough for the excellent service we received!!!!! read more

Great appetizers, decent service and nice atmosphere but the pasta dishes have decreased in quality since my last visit. Of the party of four we had, my angel hair dish was too spicy, the Alfredo was bland and the tortillini cabanaro dishes were salty. Everyone in our party was happy but no one was impressed with the pasta at an Italian restraunt.
