We're lucky that we got there early because it filled up quickly, but the servers were always friendly and quick to check on us or clear our table. The Bourbon Affair gave speakeasy, cozy and sophisticated vibes. It was packed when we came in but the server found us and seated us easily, the great service definitely stood out. It was a little loud for us but the outdoor patio area with the gas fire was perfect, we could still hear the band and it gave us more space. If you're at all serious about bourbons, The Bourbon Affair is for you, but even if you are not, chances are you will be after drinking here so it's good for you too. I first have to say that the nearby street parking, being a city imposed "mandatory reverse angle" must have some merit, rhyme or reason to it. However, whatever that might be totally escapes me. It's generally the craziest thing I've ever come across. The only thing I can think of is that it avoids having to back up if you are leaving drunk, which might be a good thing. Upon entering The Bourbon Affair I was given a warm greeting and smile by the staff. It was if they were really enjoying what they were doing and really in fact appreciated my patronage. It's a greeting like this that sets the tone for ones experiences and their greeting couldn't have been more warm or friendly. I began by a review of their whiskey inventory. I must say, the sheer size, extent and selections gave me the OMG's I've died and gone to whiskey heaven. Not only do they have bourbons, but classes of American, Irish, Scotch and Canadian along with a really splendid selection of ryes. Then, there is a good wine list, but one of the best of all lists, being their signature as well as standards in cocktails. I started off with a Manhattan classically done with a rye, in this case a top notch Bulleit with a Carpano Vermouth and one of those more than heavenly Italian Luxardo cherries. It was totally delicious and perfectly concocted the way a real rye Manhattan should be done. I then tried one of their special for the Fall Season cocktails, a Drunken Pumpkin. Though on the sweet side, deliciously so, and of a creamy spiced pumpkin taste. I was impressed by it. Another factor I love about The Bourbon Affair is their generally décor and atmosphere. It's easy going and laid back with a distinctive classical touch of class. And let me tell you, the bartenders here really know what they are doing. As soon as I walked in I thought, this would be a great place for a campaign fundraiser. Nestled inside is a beautifully done bar with a few smaller tables and a main "library type" sitting area with a large flat screen tv. My date and I walked right in and found a table and a nice young lady told us about the menu etc. we both decided on a flight of drinks along with a cocktail. They've got all the right ideas, but need better execution. We never got a decent explanation on how to score drinks while we smoke cigars. It was awkward. Cigar "attendant" was nice, but was definitely in the "fake it til you make it" stage. She botched some cuts, and started torching sticks without asking. Also, the smoke eater was not working properly, and we were dying in there. Great whiskey selection, no doubt. But when I say ice, I expect at the least the option of a ball or puck in a place like this. And in a man glass. I thought that thing was going to break if I held it too tight. Overall, I just think the details need some work here. Nice place, needs some polish. read more

Treated with total disrespect at this establishment. I was not served after all of my friends had been helped because I was told my pupils were dilated and I appeared confused. I have always had pupils that dilate easily. I was told this as a child. I also had just walked into a dimly lit place which causes pupil dilation. I also take a medication that says it can cause dilated pupils. As far as the claim of confusion, me and my group do not know the cause. I did ask if I could get a glass vs a bottle of one of the featured wines as I just wanted 1 drink and not a whole bottle before walking with our friends to our hotel. I went to grad school at Findlay for my Doctorate and had good experiences with Bourbon Affair in the past. This is a place I brought my family while in school. I worked in the restaurant service industry while completing my education at University of Findlay and work in the medical field so know all the signs of intoxication. My husband and I used to work in the restaurant service industry and enjoy tipping well to wait staff, often under appreciated especially during the holidays. It was so embarrassing and disheartening that a place I had recommended and look forward to returning too treated me so poorly. My friends and complete strangers who heard about what was going on were all disgusted at the way we were being treated. I am a short, enthusiastic, blonde woman so not sure if I was discriminated for my gender or just overall eccentric personality and interactions with my friends and being last to order but for some reason Zachary was hateful to me and caused our group to cut off after a drink instead of spending time and money at this place as we intended too. I believe this place could be great but may need better customer service training to bartenders and managers. read more

I love the Roosevelt! That's it. Just the Roosevelt. The place has a cool vibe - very unique for Findlay so that is good. They really need to pick up the service though - it takes forever!!! I know a good cocktail needs to be appreciated. You have a guy working his ass off at the bar - and 2 waitresses is period dress (20's) more interested in their phones than actually helping anyone. The interior is beautiful and cozy. It's a lovely place to have a few drinks and socialize. Definitely on the expensive side, but with good reason, as the drinks and liquor are all very worth the money. My only issue with our visit was the awkward interaction with our wait staff person. She seemed uninterested in helping us or answering questions. At the end, apparently our tab was charged a percentage for the tip; however, we didn't know that until looking over our receipt the next day when we realized we'd been prompted to leave a tip when we were already charged one (and it was included in the total of what we left an additional tip on). Also, their hours baffled me. They're open from 3pm - 11pm. Seems an early time to close for a place that is basically a bar. The atmosphere is as if you've stepped back in time with the gorgeous and ornate bar to the dark wood finishes and the attire of the bartenders. Ashley, Luke and Lindsey always remember me and we have pleasant conversations. The drinks are second to none! Blanton's Manhattan is my go to and is made wonderfully! There are several craft cocktails that are all recipes of the employees and the 2 I tasted were delicious. You can bring in your own dinner and relax or just hang out and enjoy some libations. I stopped here last weekend with some friends to sample some whiskey. The atmosphere was really great, very comfortable and pretty classy. The only problem was that everything was way overpriced. A two ounce pour of Jameson Caskmates, which goes at about $30 for a 25oz bottle, was $9. I ended up giving the Rebel Yell Small Batch Rye a taste since it was only $6. It was excellent for being the cheapest whiskey on the menu, but unless their prices became more reasonable, I would never go back. If you have a lot of money to throw around it might be your kind of place, but for the average joe it's way out of your league most likely. read more

Great location with an old style speak easy feel. Unique to Findlay, which is typically filled with bars that start out nice and end up over taken by frat bros and runs down the clientele. The price point here is just enough of a premium to maintain the ambience they're going for. The staff is always dressed to impress with a pre-prohibition type style. It's a niche bar, that is great for this town, because it'll keep higher end whiskey drinkers coming back for more, and the bottom dollar well drinkers out . I'd suggest going during the week, as Friday's and Saturday's it's really packed and the wait staff efficiency goes down a bit because of the volume.
