More of a bar/tavern than a cafe, nice large menu, food was delicious, portions generous. If it was closer to home, we would be regulars!

What an expensive disappointment. We'd heard great things about Fern Cafe, but everything was just... meh. The legendary bloody came with most hot foods served luke warm and with a super sad, super dry olive. That was the first warning sign. The buffalo chicken salad came in the tiniest bowl with very little... well, everything. The brisket sandwich was dry and bland. The mini-meatloaf sandwich was barely cooked. And everything came in incredibly small portions. We also felt bad for our server. How have I never been here before? Even when I lived here I never knew about this place. It's a restaurant that has been here for a while but during COVID they made some serious upgrades! Some of our coworkers popped in for a quick lunch and they were telling me all about the meatloaf sandwich. I ended up ordering the Chicken Pot Pie soup with their house side salad. The soup was in special, but let me tell you, it was the best chicken soup I've ever had! It even came with a biscuit on the side. Ordered the meatloaf because I was told it's their specialty. Extremely bland. Not much flavor at all. I've had way better meatloaf (in fact I make way better meatloaf). The tater tots were over cooked and under seasoned. My son ordered the steak sub and it was underwhelming and skimpy. The meat on it was not very tender and had a lot of bread. I like to try local spots when I am out of town. We were in Findlay for a baseball tournament. We are also in Findlay for hockey every year. I won't be back here to eat. read more

We ate here after a long day of traveling. The staff shows preference to local customers. My husband ordered the drunk on tots which were great but the smoked nachos fell flat. The pulled pork was good but the queso sauce was very thin so it all pooled under the chips. It may be a one and done for us as we come to Findlay almost every weekend. read more

Popped in at 2:00 PM with 18 hungry people ages 5-75 and they were fantastic in setting us set up and quickly giving us drinks and really great food in minimal time. The Fern is a staple in Findlay. I was looking forward to a new experience. The atmosphere is nice. It had the feeling of your favorite local bar with grub as an added bonus. Service was solid. We ordered and had our meals in less than 10 minutes. My husband and I both got meatloaf sandwiches. We added baked beans and fries as a side. Unfortunately, the only thing hot was the fries. Everything else was less than lukewarm, not cold, but certainly not warm. It's hard to say if the meatloaf, which is a specialty there, is good because it was hard to enjoy when I couldn't get past the not being warm. And maybe we had to ask ti have it warmed up? I don't know. I don't mind a cold meatloaf sandwich if it's a next day leftover lunch, but at a restaurant I prefer it hot. It's the little things that bring people back. read more

Apparently, my experience was an exception (it was also the first time I had ever been there). The wait staff was excellent and that's where it ended. I ordered the Meatloaf dinner without gravy. When it came out there was gravy on my meatloaf but not on the mashed potatoes. I sent it back asking to have another without gravy (like I originally ordered). I noticed that it came back in less than a minute, but I was super hungry and didn't think anything of it. Midway through my first slice of meatloaf, I noticed an odd taste. I flipped over the slice and was horrified to find gravy. In the future I would hope that the cooks don't simply scrap off the gravy and flip the slices over. I would like to try going again because many of my friends have had great experiences there. read more

Not the place we once enjoyed. I dislike giving reviews of terrible service and not as advertised menu items. But here goes. The new owners of this establishment have made the place look pretty nice. But the need to stop selling bland room temperature meatloaf sandwiches and call them legendary. They also need to spend some serious time training front of house employees. Their interactions with guest's are not favorable to the business. Sure attractive servers and bar tenders wearing very tight revealing outfits may get guest's excited, but when your order arrives quickly but not hot, and that second beer you ordered never arrived, what's the point. Train your front of house to do their job, or find better server's that care about your business. I don't plan to return. I liked the place better back when it was a true dive bar, crappy tables and chairs, but the server's then brought out hot meatloaf sandwiches that were good, nearly too hot to eat on paper plates! And when you asked for another beer it was right there...then when your beer glass was running low they offered to refill it...I want to go back to that place. Fix your problems, please. read more

Visiting from San Antonio,TX. First time here but not the last. The Cafe is larger than most. Has a good sized bar with table and a bar and a section for dining only. Fantastic service by Sherry who is completing her 28th year this year. Forgot to take pictures of the food. Thick meatloaf slice was tender but held together well. Savory taste throughout shows a deft touch with seasonings. Coney island as well as chili cheese hotdogs were absolutely perfect. Had a big weiner with a nice snap to the casing. I went to the Fern for lunch and had their famous Meatloaf sandwich. The sandwich, fries, and a coke, ~$4.30, what a value. The restaurant itself is a dive that is totally a place for the locals, but the food was very good. The meatloaf was flavorful, juicy, and they provided us with pickles and raw onions. The fries were fine, nothing special. They had several others sides, cole slaw, cheese balls. There is no guest checks, each guest just walks up to the bar and tells the cashier what they had. Not a place I'd hang in, but one of the better lunch meals I've had in Findlay, and certainly can't beat the value. read more
