We had our Thanksgiving meal here this year. It was a buffet style, reservations only. I was really pleased with the selection and the servers did a great job of keeping our plates cleared and beverages refilled. This restaurant is in a small town and kind of out in nowhere so kudos to you having staff available to work. The turkey breast was juicy and flavorful but I gotta admit, my favorite was the snickerdoodle cookies on the dessert table. I had two. Rolls were NOT fresh. We had a party of 15-20 and had to pay 18% gratuity for poor service plus extra for using a credit card. Plus the one that did pay cash still got charged the credit card charge plus was not given correct change back by $10. Employees walking around on their cellphones and scratching their heads then stirring the food. Employees over heard talking about our table having 22 people and we were just sitting there without eating as we were waiting for another person to show up. Will never go here again!!! read more

We have been coming to the Old Barn for many years, whenever we are travelling through Lima. Our last visit was disappointing. We went for the Sunday brunch buffet. Upon entering and finding out that we had a party of 10, the staff told us no fewer than three times that there was an automatic gratuity added to our bill. They seemed more interested in all telling us about the auto gratuity than getting us seated. Upon getting seated the waitress was very good at getting us seated and getting drinks out quickly. We all had the buffet and the consensus from our family was that the quality of food and selections had declined significantly since changing ownership. The standards of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and grave, etc. were available, however, the buffet has significantly shrunk since our last visit. I would love to see a ham carving station, possible parfaits, and other healthy selections. Especially for the money they are getting per person. Lastly, the ambiance is no longer country. The barn is now black. A lot of the interior decor is gone and the interior can now be described as boring. People come to the old barn because it is a BARN. I get that someone sold them the idea of a cleaner, more modern look, but this was not good. Bring back the old timey signs and pictures. Have some country music playing. Bring back some of the stuff that said you were in the country! Lastly, the staff need to leave their phones in lockers. While our waitress was great, many of the younger staff were texting, visiting with co workers, and not doing their jobs of taking care of the customers. While this is a common issue, it can be controlled by a diligent manager. I will probably try them out one more time, but changes need to be made or this place will sink. read more

We were a party of 12 with 6 from NW Ohio and 6 from SW Ohio . Good half way meeting place that we hadn't tried before. We received good service and weren't rushed to leave. It was an early Saturday afternoon and they weren't busy so it was nice to relax and enjoy our family time. They allowed us to bring in our own celebration cake and was happy to give us plates and forks. Waitress kept us filled with soft drink and water refills. Salad bar was well stocked with a variety of choices. They kept the food buffet stocked with fresh fried chicken , etc. The BBQ pork was excellent. Also had chicken breast with rice which was good. Along with mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, dinner rolls. The dessert bar didn't have the variety that a previous picture on here shows, but there were cookies, pies, cake and ice cream. Enough to pick from if you were still hungry after the buffet! We have decided this will be our new family half way meeting place. Prices were very reasonable. read more

I really liked this place! It has a very relaxed and casual environment, with tables spread apart from each other so you can just relax and enjoy. I am vegetarian and came here with a group, and was happy to find that there is a vegetarian black bean burger on the menu. Everyone in my group was easily able to find things they liked. I was debating between the vegetarian burger and the Buffet, because the salad bar looked so nice. And then I was delighted to find that you can order the salad bar as your side dish included with your meal, for just two dollars extra. The food on the salad bar was very fresh and good. There was also a dessert bar, with a nice variety of pies, cake, both chocolate and vanilla soft serve, and cookies. The food was not top quality, but I thought it all was really good, and I really appreciated the wide variety, the service, and the atmosphere. My kiddo got the kids mac & cheese, and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. And he's picky! He also really liked the salad bar and getting to pick what he wanted as his side dish. This just seems like the perfect place to have a relaxing dinner out, with a little privacy given how the tables are spaced. I have been here for brunch on Sundays three times. The made-to-order omelettes are excellent, with a large variety of veggies and meats and cheese. The rest of the breakfast items are so-so, nothing really stands out as unusually good or different. As far as the lunch portion of the buffet, some of the items are excellent, for example, the mashed potatoes. They are fresh, creamy and REAL, and one of their most popular items. The noodles are also very good, but the rest of the items are variable....some are very good but some, especially vegetables, taste like they just came right out of the can. Salad bar is excellent, and a large bowl of fresh fruit was very nice as well. Where Old Barn really stands out is the bakery items......homemade pies are the speciality. There are truly homemade, and the variety is amazing. There are also cakes and cookies that are very good but be sure to try the pies. It is nice that the pies are cut into small slices so you can sample two or three. And if you see one you want to try better grab it....it will soon be gone and replaced by another kind. There are three prices on Sunday......you can get breakfast buffet, lunch buffet or brunch that includes everything for only $2 more, and it is well worth the extra $2. A sine wave of quality OBOB has been since its founding in the late 70s /early 80s. It started out gang busters, the pillar of contemporary mom and pop Sunday dinner meat and potatoes--some decent fried shrimp for Ohio standards--Irish-German American now known as comfort food. It was a notch or so lower than the Der Dutchman, the Plain City attraction, and it had hit par with todays Cracker Barrel. But then, sometime around the mid-1980s, a fire struck and the place was shut down awhile. When it reopened the food quality seemed to dip, and it has vacillated ever since. Of course, having left the area twenty plus years ago the OBOB is not a place I visit save for once every several years. This year my family selected it for an Easter dinner, having set reservations in advance. Buffett style was the offering. From my selections of it OBOB is on an upswing. Enough to give it a high three star rating. I forget if the place was once an actual barn. If so it was a huge red one just off Elm Street across from the void that once was the dead echoey American Mall. The inside is dress according to the barn theme, dark and woooden, cool almost damp. The theme is kept by dividing the seating into stalls with wood fences framing each area. Signs are hokey naming each section after barn animals with a Warner Brothers styled cartoon drawn on them with shitty grins. On the wall are antique agricultural tools just like Cracker Barrel. Lots of space, with a mezzanine . . . excuse me. . . 'hay loft' for added seating. The place can get busy. The salad bar of the usual staples was fresh and plentiful. Out of the hot served I felt the stuffing was almost divine, and I filled up on that. The mashed potatoes and gravy (both beef and chicken based of which I tried both) was equal to the Dur Dutchman. The brisket beef was a little stingy for me. I did not try the chicken, when you are benefited from Hot Chicken Takeover and other like masters to tend to turn your nose at others. Rolls and other sides are good. It was a nice starchy meal. The servers could had been more attentive and welcoming, but the place was jumping so I won't bitch at that. I'd say it was a nice visit. Of course Limaland dinner atmosphere just plain sucks with the lack of music and terrible acoustics but that is universal for area eateries. And the Barn is very lacking in this area. But ll in all it is a decent place for country fare. read more

Fantastic place ! We stopped for brunch . The food was homemade and very well prepared. The staff was friendly and constantly refilling food items and cleaning up. It was such a nice touch to have the omelette station and pancakes being served right off a griddle . You can't beat the price either , very reasonable. read more

I would give this place a zero if I could. We dined there tonight, WORST food ever. My son and daughter in law had pulled brisket, which she said, was like boiled beef with a little bit of barbq sauce on top. I had a black bean burger, that really had no taste. It comes plain, no toppings, just a burger placed between a bun. Salsa as a side. The french fries were barely edible. One of the kids had mac and cheese, I assume that was a failure too, since most of it remained in his bowl. First and last time here. I'd recommend finding another place to go. read more

I must say, this is a surprising find on my recent business trip to Lima. The price is great, and the food selection is abundant. The best part is that you are in an authentic barn that was converted to a restaurant. The night I was there, the place was surprisingly busy. There is plenty of free parking, and the staff were extremely accommodating. I have definitely been to better restaurants, but given the limited choices in the area - this is a "must visit" location when in town deserving of 4 stars. I recommend this location. read more

Overall pretty disappointed in the buffet here. Has potential to be excellent because nothing beats a comfort food buffet, however, quality of food is poor. All the meat is super dry, even the "fresh out of the oven" rolls are dried out. The majority of the veggies aren't cooked through. On top of all that they don't keep the main buffet well stocked. While I am not against them, I admit to not being a fan of buffets. But here we were seated in the "large group" dinning room for Sunday brunch. A bit on the dated side with white stucco, and carpet inneed of a deep clean, this room is night and day in comparison with the darker, farm themed restaurant proper. The vaulted pace can become loud, but is nevertheless nice for casual gatherings. Friendly service. Our server and others refilled drinks and cleared away plates as needed. As far as food went, I kept to the breakfast options. Everything (pancakes, eggs, home fries, bacon, fruit etc.) was alright to good. Not particularly memorable, but good for a buffet. Although, the mashed potatoes and beef gravy were delicious, the potatoes in the potato salad were truly disgusting and ended the meal for me. Those with me seemed to find their food (ribs, fried chicken, green beans, ham etc.) to be good or better as well. But some choices were simply not as solid as others. I felt like the selection wasn't huge (only 2 buffet bars open), but I was there visiting my in-laws and other relatives on that side of the family, so I wasn't too upset. I am a server, and I know how serving goes... I live next to here so decided to give it a shot with my mother. Well, we walked in and there was a small wait- no biggie- then got sat and nobody came for probably 15 minutes. The girl who was serving us was talking to another girl and complaining about taking OUR table. Which is very rude. It was me, my mom, and son who was like 4 at the time. The service was shit to say the least and I still tipped at the end, probably 10-15%, but she claimed more of a tip than I had actually gave her. Where do I begin? From the outside, it looked as if it were going to be authentic country style buffet, but past the doors I learned differently. The floor in the place is so filthy, decorations are generic, they have a scythe hanging up on a wall from high up, could point imagine the horrors that would happen if it fell. Server was ok, took forever to stop talking to another server and looked bothered we sat down. Brought our drinks, some had ice in the glass, some did not. Iced tea, if you can call it that, was warm. Salad bar, they boast of so many options, but it's the same thing on each side. Lettuce had dirt in it, all kinds of different dressings and toppings, dropped in other bowls. Their prepared salads were just weird and sad looking, some corn salad was out there, I guess that's what it was, but it looked really inedible. The hot buffet (which was room temperature at best) was just ridiculous. Their "steaks" are not steaks at all, but short ribs that looked hammered out, ribs had zero meat, all fat and bone, and the chicken was dry, bland, and tasted and looked it had been re dipped in grease. The dressing had a literal slice of bread in it, not even bothered to had been broken up. Mashed potatoes, please, bland as it can get. Noodles had no flavor, gravy ladle floating in the gravy. Best of all, plates were dirty and chipped!!! Dessert bar, if you just take an S out of the word, you get desert, which is how dry their cakes, pies and cookies are. I can tell those are stored in a freezer. Horrible flavor, no creativity. Just all around awful. The people I was with felt bad about how terrible it was, they said it used to be so good. Not sure if new owner, management, or what, but they said they would never go back. Surprised we got to leave since it took forever to get our check. I definitely had my first and last taste of this place. I couldn't give it zero stars, but wish I could. read more

Come to lima every summer to visit and had never eaten here. We travel alot and this food was not good. We came in for the buffet and we're not impressed so opted for the salad bar. The choice was iceberg lettuce only and many of the salad items were not very tasty. Even the soda was bad too much seltzer. Lots of desserts but they were not memorable. I havent eaten at OBOB in several years. But they catered our family reunion this past weekend and I can say that I was not happy with the food on Sunday. The ribs were just awful that I had to spit them out in my napkin. Other family members said that they were boiled but it must have been in dishwater because there wasnt any flavor or seasoning. The hamburgers were edible; hot dogs didnt look appealing so I didnt touch those. Baked beans had too much liquid on them that they just looked like beenie weenies. The fruit salad and the desserts (cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls) were the best thing they provided. I would not have them cater an event for me unless I was able to sample or I would need to speak with the chef. read more

A farm-themed restaurant in a big barn? Sounds wonderful! I had great hopes for this place, but they were soon dashed. The 30-minute line out the door appeared to be a good sign - until we got inside and discovered the line was artifically-created and completely unnecessary. There was plenty of seating inside in numerous sections - the place wasn't even half-full! They were regulating the flow of customers for some reason (maybe they were short-handed), but it was enough to start us off on the wrong foot. A handful of items were good; the mac and cheese, the fried chicken, and the sodas were fine. I thought the ribs were outstanding - and is the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars - but the remainder of items we had were just mediocre. The steak was leathery and bland, and definitely needed the small packet of A-1 sauce they brought with it (good steak requires NO sauce). The employees were all very cordial and pleasant. Although, we had to signal for drink refills more than once, and it often took a while for dirty plates to be whisked away. I did appreciate the extra room around our table, where we didn't feel cramped or closed-in. Probably won't be back, unless I decide it's worth it for the ribs alone. read more

After having been to the Old Barn Out Back twice now, to be honest it was lousy on both trips. The first trip was on Father's Day and being really excited about trying a new place I was really disappointed and disgusted because, you walk in it is unique looking and then the smell of a soured mop hits you {Bad Sign).Also, on our first trip we experienced food that was soured on the salad bar such as the cottage cheese, and the actual cheese for the salad was smelling funny and I tasted a little piece before eating it and it smelled like vinegar which indicates being soured. Our waitress was actually good on that particular visit that is the only reason I gave it 1 star. The vegetables were luke warm and also the mashed potatoes had a over bearing lemony taste which almost made me lose what little bit I did eat. We thought that since we had went on Father's Day that maybe because they were so busy that it could be possible they were having an off day. We first were seated with the annoying smell of soured mop and food then we were told our server would be right with us but they did not mention the fact that she would have to finish her conversation first to one of her friends that were there, 5-9 minutes later she finally got our drink order. While getting our drinks she was coughing excessively probably in our sodas(?). Then I tried the fried chicken it was dried out and almost broke my feeling out trying to eat it. I tried the carrots and they had a dirt taste to them, I then went to the salad bar for cottage cheese and pea salad the cottage cheese was soured and so was the pea salad plus they should really be inspected by the health department, I then went to the what they call vegetable beef soup which only amounts to being watered down carrots and a few hints of soured meat. By the way it took me 5 bowls to find a clean one. I then went to the warmer where the cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls were kept both sets of tongs were nasty with left over Barbeque sauce or some other type of substance on them. The rolls were extremely hard, I then tried a brownie but didn't eat it because several flies had flown around by the desserts and landed on the dessert items. I gave up and left hungry I did use the restroom and they have or may had by this point a live Rat trapped on a glue board that probably managed to crawl off of it. We decided after trying this place twice we will NEVER be back it is disgusting just like the server was and the cook that came out he was coughing a lot while walking by our table. In other words Eat at your own risk at this place and be prepared to handle rat or possibly more rats and screaming from the restroom.
