The Met is a unique building downtown Lima. It was built in the late 1880's and was originally home to the The Metropolitan Bank. It has since been morphed into a restaurant with very attractive original features. The wood floors and plaster ceilings...along with the attractive decor really enhance the dinning experience! The team here is very friendly, professional and welcoming. Ashley was outstanding. She hustled, knew her menu and had great recommendations. Ashley was very attentive and helped us enjoy the evening. I appreciated Liz stopping by and welcoming us. Liz shared lots of history and helped us appreciate the facility. The Met has a large food menu that has something for everyone. They have a large selection of beverages and specialty cocktails. All at reasonable prices. We started with a couple of Mule drinks. One was a designer St. Patrick's Day Mule and their specialty Met Mule. Both were very tasty, cool and refreshing . We started with the Focaccia bread appetizer. It had a lightly golden/chewing top with a soft and moist inside. Liz said that they make the bread fresh three times a day. The bread had a slight olive oil taste with a mild amount of Italian herbs. The soft whipped butter was a nice add. The side salad had lots of fresh spring greens. There was a few tasty tomatoes and lots of stronger tasting onions. The thin Parmesan cheese shreds were an excellent touch. The house ranch dressing was very smooth/light/creamy moderately thin with a mild ranch taste. My wife had the chicken bacon ranch flatbread. The crust was thin and crispy. She really liked the ranch house made sauce and how it accented the meat toppings. I had the Met Meatloaf which had an outstanding meat flavor. The meat was made with Italian sausage which had a slightly spicy kick. It was moist and tender to go along the beefy taste. The smooth red sauce on top was slightly sweet & spicy. It accented the meat nicely. The mashed potatoes were real with lumps, eyes and minute peel pieces. Very smooth and delicious! The grilled asparagus had a slight crisp to go along with the tender stalk. Not much seasoning detected...just a nice olive oil taste. Overall a fantastic dinner experience. We sat street level and watched the pedestrians come & go while enjoying the decor of this unique facility! The menu is large and the food and drinks are outstanding. We drove in from Columbus to meet friends from Toledo. It's about half-way for both of us. Glad we found The Met. I think someone we knew had been here and gave it a high recommended. We arrived at 11:30 and left at 2. They were nice to let us linger. Everything we had was terrific. Soups are made in-house. I'm thinking most all things on the very large menu were probably very good. They seem to care about the details. We also shared some ice cream cookie sundae concoction that was 5*. Metered parking on the street and there was a free lot but it was full. Meters were $2 for two hours. Nice staff and there were no staff shortages! Lilly our server was perfect. This is a great place to visit in downtown Lima! The service was excellent! I was greeted, seated, and given water very quickly and kindly. The place has a great aesthetic and is a mix between classic and modern. That can be tough to pull off but it worked well for The Met. The food was great! Soup of the day and steak of the month were excellent selections that had great flavor, cooked exactly as requested, and perfect portion sizes. A group of ten of us came here for drinks after a family birthday party. We arrived and were greeted in a seemingly authentic welcome. A large group, so close to the end of the night; yeah, this was at 915pm. They close at 10pm. Out server managed to keep track of 5 separate checks and diverse drink orders with some food thrown in, without issue. The drinks were quite tasty and priced well. Lima isn't what I expected and neither was The Met. It was quite reminiscent of places in mich larger nearby cities: Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. If your looking to avoid the interstate restaurant staples and get something different and LOCAL, ie. Not Corporate, The Met won't let you down. read more

My cousin text me saying "I'll meet you at The Met ". Since we're not in NY, I Yelped the place to get the lowdown. A nifty little wine shop, bar and eatery. They have quite the selection of bottled wine as well as wine flights, craft beers and more. You can opt for a true Wine Bar experience with small plates or full blown entrées for dinner. Smack downtown in Lima is this charming 1890's building that has been beautifully preserved and currently a modern bar and restaurant with rustic, artistic flair. Those who live in Lima, OH..... PLEASE DO NOT EAT AT The Met! I REPEAT DO NOT DINE AT THIS RESTAURANT. The General Manager, Liz, displayed clear racial bias and unprofessional behavior -- and the food isn't worth it either. Ray Baker was one of only two Black employees working at this establishment. Without explanation, he was suddenly removed from the schedule. When he went in to speak with Liz, she claimed it was a scheduling mistake made by the kitchen manager. A week later, after still not being reinstated, he called to follow up. Liz then told him that because there had been an issue involving the other Black employee, she decided she "didn't want him back" either. In other words, she treated him as guilty by association -- implying that removing both Black employees would somehow resolve her "problem." This kind of discriminatory treatment is completely unacceptable, and no one should support a business that operates this way. read more

This place was so good, we went for lunch two days in a row! On both days, my party of two was seated promptly, even at the height of the lunch rush (this place was packed). The staff was super friendly and we never waited very long for anything. On the first day, I got the grilled chicken wrap with their brussels sprouts side. The wrap was warm, tasty, and very filling. The grilled chicken was perfectly seasoned. I enjoyed the brussels sprouts as well, but probably would not order it again. The bacon on it was good, but gave a heavy feeling to it that I was not looking for when I ordered it. On the second day, I got the chicken shawarma with a side Met salad, and we also got the shaved brussels salad as a starter. While I was sick of salad by the time I finished the meal, everything was amazing! The shaved brussels salad had wonderful flavors. Whatever dressing they used on the brussels themselves was great, and paired very well with the fresh parmesan cheese that topped the salad. I also loved my chicken shawarma. The pita was fresh, as well as all the veggies on it, though I definitely could have used more tzatziki. The side Met salad was good, but like I said before, I was saladed-out by the time it got to me. Overall, if you are looking for a great meal in the Lima area, this is the place to go. Back in November 2023, I came to the Met after listening to the Lima Symphony Orchestra. The Met had long been on my list of places to eat, but my family and I decided to finally go after the restaurant was mentioned by the conductor of the symphony during the show. He advised members of the symphony would be there after the show and invited anyone attending to go. I am glad we did. The Met is a restaurant located in what was once the Metropolitan Bank of Lima OH, you can actually see some pieces of what the bank was still inside the restaurant. It is beautiful decorated. The wait was almost non-existent as we were immediately taken to a table. Our server was friendly and patient as we had never been to the restaurant before and it took us a while to peruse the drink and food menus. I was the only one who decided to have an adult beverage as both my brother and my mom got sodas. I, on the other hand, got the espresso martini. It was magnificent. As much as I loved my drink, the food was the star of the show. We started off with some soup/chili. My mom got some chicken soup, while my brother and I both ordered some chili. It was a cold night, and we needed the warmth of those dishes! The chili was flavorful, not too spicy though. My mom adored the chicken soup! Said it was fantastic! For our main courses: my mother ordered the chicken salad croissant with fries, my brother ordered the met tavern burger with a sunny-side up egg and fries, while I ordered the Chicago sausage extravaganza. The food was delectable. Fair warning, the dishes are large and hearty! These will fill you up! Heck, they were so large known of us could eat it all! Coming with a big appetite. By the end of our meal, we were too full for dessert, which is a shame because some of them were very tempting! After we were done, my family and I got to meet the conductor of the symphony and talk to him a bit along with some members of the orchestra. If there was a choice, I would give this place 4 1/2 stars. Charming old building, friendly atmosphere, very nice wait staff. Food was good too and modestly priced. My husband had the brisket sandwich - piled high with well seasoned shredded brisket ( he doesn't like slabs) and crispy fries. I had the spicy shrimp tacos in lettuce wraps with a Met salad side. I had the pleasure of being able to dine at The Met on two separate occasions while in Lima for work. Both experiences were thoroughly enjoyed. If there's one thing I love, it's a good ole hearty sandwich. Smoked short rib and cheddar cheese stuffed into French onion jam brioche-- say less. The layers of flavor embedded in this monstrosity was ridiculous. On the side I chose the Brussel bites.. chopped browned brussels in a bed of crispy bacon. Perf. For round two I had to go for the famous Met tacos. 4 flour tortillas, 1 each with Sirloin, Chicken, Pulled Pork and Brisket, topped with pico, sour cream, cheese and shredded lettuce. The Met side salad was anything but a side portion. The parmesan peppercorn dressing definitely set the standard for a house-dressing. WOW. This place is amazing. Very cool vibe in an old ornate building with huge flower bouquets on the entrance columns with crazy high ceilings inside. We ordered the crab dip with fresh tortilla chips, which was outstanding! I had to restraint myself from licking the bowl. Our waiter was awesome and made excellent suggestions for food. We had the honey chicken sandwich and the pork chop. Both were out of this world delicious!! They were both cooked to perfection. The wine slushie was very yummy as well. Highly recommend. We stopped by this restaurant while going back home which is in another state. It was surprisingly delicious food and service was simply amazing. Anytime we are traveling that route we will definitely stop there. If you are traveling on I-75 passing Lima.. it is 5 mins detour. 4/5/2022 7pm This was a great little local restaurant. They staff treated us great and gave us recommendations for what to drink and eat. I would definitely come back here again and bring more guest! They also take Reservations so if you have a group, best you use that service. The Tavern Burger was crazy good!! The cheese curds were the best I have ever had in Ohio!! The whole layout is nice and it was pretty cool to walk thru their backdoor because you can see the whole layout of the restaurant. My group had the meatloaf and the pulled pork sandwich!! When I stopped by The Met on my way to Indian Lake, I had a great experience! I sat on the patio with a lovely seat in the shade and started with a lavender lemonade made with Empress gin and a sugar rim. It was so delicious! My experience at this restaurant seriously let me down. The price of food quality is ridiculous. They are costly for subpar food. We went in as part of a work trip, and the steak was cold, and my co-worker chose a soup with this meal. He said it was bland and tasteless. It was fish or something. If you are traveling through Lima, OH, don't patronize one of those chain places when you could dine at The Met instead. And, if you live anywhere near Lima and you have not dined at The Met...shame on you! Overnighting in Lima on the way northward, we decided to dine at this locally owned/operated restaurant on a Thursday evening and we were not disappointed. It's located in the heart of the nice downtown area. Our server told us the restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored building that was originally a bank in the mid 1800s. Love that high tin ceiling in the main dining/bar area. The ambience is fabulous, service is attentive and friendly, the cocktail menu is fun and VERY creative, the prices are quite reasonable, and the food was excellent. We started with a glass of wine and split a small Mediterranean salad that was more than enough for both of us, brimming with greens, olives, a nice feta dressing, some hummus, pita slices, and more. Made for a tasty start to dinner. My wife had a veggie flatbread that was topped with a hearty assortment of onion, mushrooms, olives, grain, tomato, pesto, cheese and more. It was an ample portion that made for a nice summer meal. Even though it was mid-August, afternoon rains left a cool evening so I had the meatloaf which had an interesting mix of beef and Italian sausage. It was topped with a couple of drizzles of a nice BBQ sauce, served on a bed of smashed potato with a side of sautéed zucchini. Delish and went well with my glass of house red wine. What a great local place this is. We stopped while on our way to Fort Wayne from Canton, Ohio. The setting is really interesting, as it's obviously an old downtown building. I had a red sangria- which I totally appreciated that it was FILLED with fruit- as it should be! I seen some other cocktails as well, and they were all crafted well. The food was great- I had a half Met Tacos (you get 2) and a small Caesar salad- plenty of food! I happened to tell our server we were celebrating my birthday and she offered me a delicious chocolate chip cookie with ice cream for dessert! Speaking of our server- she was really wonderful. The restaurant is in a cute downtown area, with a nice outside seating area. They are working with a very limited staff, struggling to keep up. I ordered the Met burger with no bun or cheese. Per the menu I was given, I should have been given the burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, and garlic aioli. My plate arrived with the burger, tomato, and lettuce, no onion or aioli. I asked for the aioli, and condiments (ketchup and mustard). The burger and aioli were good. When the bill arrived I notice they do charge for the aioli that was suppose to be on the burger, per the menu description. Also, a fee for mustard which is very surprising.
