Beef Villa has been a part of my life since I was a little kid. Beef Villa has great food. The Chicago beef sandwiches are always delicious with tender beef, flavorful au jus, and crispy bread. The Chicago hot dog has always been a favorite of mine. The flavor and the snap of the hot dog cannot be beat. The Star of the show for me has always been the pizza puff. Order it extra crispy and you will get a delicious deep fried pocket of pizza sauce, meat and absolute deliciousness. The prices have increased. When you order cheese fries they have the audacity to put hot cheese on old fries. I was not there to see the order . My husband picked up the order and when got back . You can clearly taste the old fries and new cheese. I don't want to drive back there. Then they put sport peppers on a beef. When they clearly have the other peppers and they are free. Been living in elgin for 30 years and larkin Avenue beef villa has been a consistent staple of the elgin area. Food always hot and fresh and staff friendly. However on the snowy evening of march11th I placed my order through the drive thru...hot dog everything/no relish... (was sure to include the fact that I wanted celery salt and hot peppers because there has been miscommunication on previous visits) a large cheese fry and mushrooms well done. After arriving home I came to find the large cheese fry was absent cheese all together, and the fries were soggy...as were the mushrooms and the hot dog was absent celery salt, pickle and peppers. I drove back to the store in the snow and told the young man about the mistake. He was combative and gave me the same wrong order back ...I brought it to his attention, receipt as proof...that the large cheese fries had no cheese on them and the hot dog was still incorrectly prepared. You would think 3rd time is the charm....right....wrong. the 30 minute old french fries I returned were then 0put into a new container with cheese and given back to me. I would hope this isnt customary practice when your customers go out of their way to correct a wrong order. Talk about adding insul to injury..no compensation or compassion and a meal that was mostly discarded ... Waste of time , effort, and 24 dollars (meanwhile my daughters chicken nuggets and fries were cold upon return home after such a lengthy ordeal) . With the wide range of restaurants that are available in Chicagoland, I do not have to go back. 1 star for treating a clean, but clearly homeless woman (with more bags than we had in our car while travelling) kindly, and 1 star for crisp, seemingly efficient and kind service, and one star for shorting us (not giving us) a sandwich we paid for, that leaves us with a two star review. the beef that we did get was lack luster, the fries were ok, the gravy sandwich was not gravy but dripping sandwich. Tried this for the 1st time. Sadly it wasn't that great. The flavor of the beef is great but the beef is inconsistent in the way it's sliced. Some very thin/shaved (which I love) but some sliced very thick and rubbery. I hate getting that snap back when biting into a beef sandwich cuz beef too thick! Would try again cuz of flavor but I'd suggest paying closer attention to how beef gets sliced before serving. read more

Got an Italian beef and they forgot the hot giardiniera. Probably the most important part of the beef. Fiancé got a hot dog that i tasted, it was more than likely not a vienna beef or even an imitation. Anything i asked for i did not get in the bag. Only thing that stopped this from being a one star review was the sides. Horrible first impression and will more than likely be my last. This place just simply doesn't serve good quality food. The prices are right, the service is quick but that doesn't mean anything if the food is poor quality. I've ordered from here a few times and each time it's just another disappointment because I lose out on money. Example: Ordered a hot dog w/ fries and an Italian beef. The fries was extremely salty! I ended up feeding it to my dog and she quickly ran for her water bowl...I felt bad giving them to her. The hot dog was poorly made, I'm pretty sure it wasn't beef. I think it was suppose to be a chicago style hot dog but all it had was relish, onions, and mustard...that's it, it triggered me because there's a whole entire statement on their drive thru sign listing say that their hot dogs are dressed with the works, sports peppers, celery salt, tomatoes..etc. Kind of deceptive in my opinion. The Italian beef was okay, they put sports peppers and a piece of cheese on it and had zero flavor. Everyone, I have decided to start writing reviews on Yelp because, while I use the site frequently to read others reviews, I have found some times that the reviews are not reflective of my experience. My own imposed rules for any review: 1. Must visit at least three times. Two of which must be distinctly different formats; i.e. one weekday night and one weekend night. 2. Must order something unique each visit. 3. If they have any "signature" items on the menu, you must order a "signature" item at least once. 4. Ratings are based on a 10 point scale with 5 being average, which does not mean bad. What a score of 5 means is that the category meets expectations for that establishments format. Thanks. Beef Villa Location/Layout - 6/10: While there are 3 locations now; East Side, West Side, and South Elgin. Growing up and presently I favor the West Side location. Located directly across the street from Larkin High School on Larkin Avenue, the restaurant is easy to locate with the locally famous smiling dog road sign. Parking is ample and they offer quick drive through service. The dining area is your typical fast food joint using a glaring red, orange, and yellow color scheme with everything being either lacquer or hard plastic. There have been times where I wished they had wiped the tables and/or swept but the eating area is usually pretty tidy. Menu - 6.5/10: Beef Villa specializes in your usual Chicago "beef stand" fare. The difference is they differentiate themselves by offering broasted chicken in addition to the standard dog, beef, polish, gyro options. They also try specialty sandwiches and salads at times along with certain seasonal items. Service - 7/10: the service is usually friendly and accommodating. The thing that sets them apart is the speed in which the orders are processed and the language used to communicate the orders from the counter to the kitchen. Even though orders are never written down there is rarely an error with the orders, which in a fast food environment is impressive. Food - 7/10: While the beefs are above average and generous when compared to other beef joints throughout the 'burbs, they never get the beef wet enough for my liking and charge for a side of juice. The dogs are Red Hot Chicago, which I prefer, and have all the toppings you have come to expect on a Chicago dog. The only complaint with the dogs is that there are times when the buns are either hard or over steamed. The sides are average although they have combinations that are unique such as "more cheese". The exception to the run of the mill sides that you get everywhere is the cheese fries. Served in movie theatre sized popcorn cups and absolutely loaded with liquid gold, they are served with forks which quickly become a necessity to truly enjoy this cheesy achievement. Another menu item that is unique to Beef Villa, which differentiates them from other dog and beef stands, is their broasted chicken. The Beef Villa broasted chicken has been a staple with our family/friends for parties and gatherings for years. Even more impressive is they offer a three piece meal for a bargain price on Tuesday nights. Prices vary, some items are reasonable, others in line with market, while others are very high but they do offer nightly specials. Drinks - 4/10: They offer the standard fountain drinks and machine shakes but little other options. Overall Experience - 7/10: This is the dog joint that I grew up on and will always be my basis for comparison of any future beefs and dogs. They offer solid items across the board and always try to experiment with seasonal items. I just wish that they would begin offering value meals and not have all items be ala carte. read more

We are regulars here but lately things have been going downhill and fast. We have been rushed, treated inconsiderately, and food seems to be going downhill. I enjoy their chopped salad but lately the chicken seems burnt and almost inedible tasting, I order without bacon and sometimes it's on there and when it is it's always rubbery and flaccid. No one enjoys flaccid bacon :) I keep telling my husband we aren't going back but we would but I think this time is for real. Some of the deals used to be great before the price hikes ( I hope their website finally reflects that ) but it's just not worth it anymore. I hope it gets better beef villa. Went there last week for lunch and got two Italian beef sandwiches. Both my wife and I spent our time pulling large, thick chunks of gristle out of our mouths, it was completely gross! We also got soup and it was a bowl of watery goo with no chicken and no dumplings in it. It was the most disgusting meal I've had in a long time and I'm wondering if they've changed ownership. While waiting, I noticed that they took the meat out of the refrigerator instead of the spit and shared that had I known that they weren't going to serve it off the spit, I would have ordered something else. The cashier said that it DID come from the spit; they cooked it some time ago and then refrigerated it. I shared that in my house, we call that "leftovers;" I didn't order leftovers. She said that if I didn't like it, she would give me a refund. I said that I didn't even want to try it. She served it on my tray then disappeared. I never even opened the sandwich to "try" it. The interior is nice and has a diner feel to it with low hanging lights and red, leather seats. The food was very delicious and well-priced. I ordered the Chicago dog all the way and fries.
