The Beef Shack is a rapidly growing mini chain with seven locations and more on the way. The next opening appears to be in Algonquin, across from Mercy Hospital, next to Thorntons. The eatery specializes in the local favorite, Italian beef sandwiches, slow roasted thin sliced beef simmering in a rich au jus, nestled in a French roll. Those in the know ask for their sandwich "submerged" meaning the entire sandwich is dipped in the au jus before serving, which makes a wet but delicious sandwich. Some opt for the "combo" version, which includes a spicy grilled Italian sausage laying in a bed of the beef. That's some good eating. You can order yours topped with a blend of melted cheeses and if you like sweet or hot peppers. Some like to combine the peppers. Other offerings include traditional Chicago style hot dogs (mustard, relish, onions, celery salt, tomatoes, sport peppers, pickle), burgers, chicken sandwiches, Italian sausage, grilled cheese and fresh cut fries. which truly are, hot from the fryer and perfectly seasoned. Beef Shack is active on social media, and post daily specials on Facebook. During the course of a week, generally one day they offer $1 hot dogs, another day $5 burgers, one day $1 milkshakes, and other days discounted family sized meals. Check their FB posts for current deals. Friendly people, immaculate facilities, and freshly prepared food at a great price point. I love their Chicago dogs and fries. Great milk shakes, too. read more

All I can say is if you want good quick food go there it's great and a good price especially on Tuesday and Thursday great specials

We have lived in the area for years and have always come here for the delicious beef sandwiches, but last week we decided to try something new at this location and Jeremy, the store manager i made sure that we knew all the specials and what they had to offer each week.... We tried the hot dogs and they were absolutely delicious. But to night, we had the hamburgers. And they were incredible... Jeremy is such a nice young man and is doing a great job.Managing this location... We are so glad we tried something new. And we'll come back in the future. read more

Beef Shack cheeseburgers used to be the best, hot, delicious, and melt-in-your-mouth. But not anymore. We visited on May 14, 2026, at 7 p.m., and ordered four cheeseburgers and a large fry. The bun and toppings were fresh, but the burger meat was awful. It tasted like a frozen patty that had been cooked hours prior to our order and left to die in a warming tray. The meat was gray, cold, and rubbery, honestly reminding us of bad institutional food service. The fries are usually amazing, but these were dripping with grease. We only managed to eat three of the four cheeseburgers, and the fourth went straight to the trash. Beef Shack has definitely dropped off our list of go-to places to eat out. read more

Food is good but every time we go there is a TV that does nothing but show a 15 second Beef Shack ad nonstop. We are already there. How about putting on ESPN or another sports channel? Heck even a news channel lol. read more

Wow, the prices keep going up everywhere, huh? $19.31 for a single Cheezy Beef with sweet peppers, large fries, and a drink, plus an order of Shack Sauce. Luckily the portion sizes are huge, so that is enough for a couple to share, which is what my husband and I did. And it could have cost more since we ordered à la carte, but the cashier changed it to a meal deal. Other than the prices, I have no complaints - the food is delicious at all the Beef Shack locations, this one being no exception. There are never any chewy, fatty, inedible pieces of beef, unlike at Portillo's where you end up throwing half of it in the garbage, and the beef actually has seasoning on it! The bun isn't chewy like Portillo's either. Seriously, why is ANYONE eating Italian beef at Portillo's when this place exists? Blows my mind. We hadn't eaten at this particular location before; everything inside was clean, staff was courteous, and the outdoor seating area was clean and inviting. I'd probably skip the Shack Sauce moving forward because while good, it's really not necessary as the sandwich and fries are flavorful without. Oh, and it was $1 shake day but the guy gave it to my husband for free which was nice. We'd definitely visit this location again when we're in the area. Visit date: 10/12/24 read more

Loved the food and the fries! The soda was a good blend and crisp, they definitely have good choices. They responded right away when I was ready to order and everyone was very kind. I will definitely be returning! read more

The worst service ever I walk in and they act like they haven't seen black peoples before ..order extra beef on my sandwich and they gave me less meat !! Went to the rest room when I got out my food was sitting on the table !! But I should've known better and went to big Sammie's better for better service better people! If I go to the restroom there my food would've been handed to me like it was supposed to ...never coming back read more

The St. Charles and Bartlett stores are not the same! Have never gotten bad fries from Bartlett always a beautiful color brown, these here at St. Charles are white and limp. Even the replacement ones are not up to par but will pass. And Tuesdays should be renamed as $1 cold dogs. The dog itself wasn't even remotely warm and Beef Shack didn't offer to replace it. I understand it was only a $1 but a HOT dog is supposed to be HOT! What a waste of $4.87! read more

In 2 weeks I've been to this establishment twice both times same issue . Last week I walked in at 11:01am stood their for literally 10 minutes before anyone took my order (people were eating inside and drive thru was moving) anyway the guy there gave me a $3 off next $15 order and apologized cool, yesterday I go in with a coworker 11:01am order was in 11:04am I get my drink wash my hands and proceed to wait 20 minutes I seen multiple people order and leave with their food I walked up to see what the hell was happening, the whole time it's just sitting there jerks I'm at lunch on work in a gps company vehicle I didn't get to eat my $15.07 burger (over priced) after yesterday experience I'm at the point of just bring a lunch to work, not just beef shack but in general foods so expensive and the service is getting worse. read more

Got the double bacon cheeseburger for lunch and it was insanely dry and overcooked I threw it away after eating about a third of it. Pretty frustrating for a 12 dollar fast food burger. read more

EMPLOYEES DON'T USE GLOVES!! I was sitting here with my family for dinner and we watched two employees handle the salad greens, hot dogs, and buns WITHOUT gloves - super disgusting. To add, one of them works the register as well and I can't imagine how dirty that is. As someone who has worked in food service, it's not hard to put gloves on and it is a BASIC food service safety rule. I would not eat here unless you want to wash your food before you eat it. read more

MOLD BEWARE The food at Beef Shack is typically pretty good. This time around I ordered the chicken sandwich. Halfway through my meal I notice mold on the bun. That being said I'm never returning to this particular Beef Shack. Just praying I don't get sick. read more

This is our favorite Beef Shack, although we like them all. We always eat inside at this location since it's very spacious. In the summer it's nice to eat outside when the weather cooperates. The staff is always friendly and they go out of their way such as bringing our food to the table. Of course, the food is great! read more

After church headed over for a quick bite, to share with my wife. Waited in line, they gave me a free shake, I didn't like it, my wife said it is not bad. Got the food home and her chicken sandwich is missing the 24 hour marinated chicken. Also asked for celery salt on my fries, too much to ask for. Double dog was good, but my confusion was you had me wait in slot 3, so I assumed that you were going to make sure my order was correct. Sorry beef shack your standards have slipped too far for us. read more

There earlier bad reviews kept me away. I used to drive an extra 15 minutes to the St. Charles location. They told me that they worked out the kinks at this location. I ordered the cheesy beef on garlic bread and the small fries. What else would I order? The small fries were big, made to order and fantastic. The sandwich was very good. A little less cheesy and garlic than St. Charles, but still really good. It's a 10 minute drive from home so I will be back!! read more

Supposed to close at 10 on Friday. Pulled into drive through at 9:50. Nobody ever responded through speaker. Looks like the overpaid hourly staff called it quits for the night. The owner of this business needs to know they lost sales just before close because their staff has ZERO work ethic. read more

We ordered from drive thru, the cheesey beef on garlic bread and bacon cheese burger, both are very good, not too salty and not too greasy. They are very generous on the roast beef. Prices are reasonable. A nice fast food at the neighborhood. read more

The food is always amazing. The french fries are so good. The workers are always friendly and it is very clean store.

Very clean and uncluttered restaurant. All staff members were wearing their masks. Order and receiving of food was very quick. I ordered the Italian sausage combo meal which included fresh cut fries and a fountain drink. I also requested cheese for the fries and 2 cups of beef juice for my sandwich. I did not receive the additional cup of juice. The french fries were overcooked and brown on the outside while their senators were still on the Ross side. This made them taste more oil than crispy like a good french fries. The cheese sauce was very bland. Although the Italian sausage sandwich at sole was huge it was not very good unless you are a fan of A very large amount of fennel seeds. The side of juice they provided did not resemble any kind of Italian beef flavor. It also had a layer of orangish Grease that covered the first quarter inch of the juice. I really do not like giving bad reviews but this place was a big letdown for me. read more

The food is always good. Tuesdays are $1.00 hot dog days. Fries are amazing but know it's a huge bag of fries so if you order a regular it'll still more than expected. Only drawback is price of other items can be higher than a locally owned hot dog restaurant. read more

We ordered on line (during quarantine) and there is a section for extra instructions. When I asked my daughter jokingly if there were any special instructions on how to make her grilled cheese, she said "I would like them to make it with love, it always tastes better that way." Well, she had tears in her eyes when she read the packaging!! That one little thing made our day! On top of that, we always order from here because the chicken sandwiches are perfect and juicy (I always get my chipotle mayo on the side), and the small beefs. And one order of fries that is the size of my head! Not really, but they are big! Love this place!! read more

I have ordered from here a couple times and it was good. But on Friday 1/6/23 all that changed. Waited over 8 minutes for someone to come to answer in the drive thru and there was no one in the store. Received food and it was very bad. Cheese for fries was ice cold. Fries were soggy and loaded with more salt than a Morton Salt factory. It was a bad experience. One more thing I noticed was the drive thru menu board had one price and the receipt (what was charged) was several dollars more on all items I ordered. Incredibly deceptive. Wouldn't recommend until they clean up their act. read more

I love a good Italian Beef sandwich. And this place is pretty close-by. I've found that beef sandwiches vary ...... greatly. Whether Beef Shack, the now defunct Zippy's, Buona, Portillo's ..... you really can't compare because they are so different. I do think Beef Shack is decent. The flavor is good and the fries are delicious, hand cut fries. LOTS of them too (I recommend sharing an order). Buona beef is a little spicy -- flavorful -- but I'm sure for some people, it might be a little too much -- Beef Shack is probably a better alternative for still having flavor, but not too much spices. Prices are a little high, but we haven't been disappointed the few times we have eaten here. And like I said - they are close-by to where we live, so it's nice to not travel too far when we want something to eat and aren't feeling up to cooking at home. read more

Husband just said better than Portillo's! That's saying something for sure after inhaling all the fries on the way home lol

This business recently moved and relocated north of I-90 on Randall Road in West Dundee/Elgin. behind the gas station in the strip mall there. I had the cheesy beef on garlic bread and the fresh cut fries, my girlfriend had a hot dog (her way) which means plenty of onions. It was outstanding. This is not run of the mill fast food. This is special. We enjoyed our food so much that we have gone back again already. Staff is super friendly and the store is immaculate. read more

A week later. 2pm on Tuesday afternoon. Not one customer in the place besides myself. Again, that one clean table and trash all over the floor. I see a young woman come out with a spray bottle and a cloth and wipe down one table, then back to conversation behind the counter. Why wouldn't you use the down time to make sure that the restaurant is presentable for the next customer? I don't get it. read more

I had my first experience after driving home from a late work day and fast food wasn't going to cut it. So I tried Beef Shack and got a burger with fries and soda. Burger was nice but what makes it is the fresh cut fries ... thank you thank you thank you!! Based on their recommendation the first time, I decided to try the cheesy beef of garlic - Whoa! This is now my go-to whenever I stop here. Delicious!! Just that hint of buttery garlic bread is fantastic!! I should also mention the staff is personable and friendly - no complaints here! Keep up the good work!! read more

Beef Shack is a must-visit spot! Their ingredients here are top-notch and quality. All of their offers here are affordable and have reasonable prices. They have burgers, gyros, beef sandwiches, fries, salads, and others. Everything was on point and their serving is generous. I ordered their famous cheeseburger and beef sandwich. I am really satisfied and amazed. Both taste so good. Professionally done and very fresh. The cheeseburger is very meaty, tasty, and delicious. Same with the sandwich, it is very soft, savory, and fresh. I really enjoyed everything. They also have cool beverages and awesome desserts. I also want to recommend trying Chipotle mayo. It was really good and unique. This place is way cheaper than other fast food spots nearby. Beef Shack was a very nice and clean place. Their interior is very wide and organized. The tables and chairs are perfectly aligned. The whole place is well-maintained and decent. Other restaurants don't even care if their customers are not comfortable. But this Beef Shack is really nice to their customers. All of their staff here is nice, friendly, and professional. They all know how to treat their customers so well. They love what they are doing. All of them are fun to be with. Great customer service. Thank you for your awesome service and experience. Kudos to all of you! read more
