We came at the urging of a friend who said Beef Villa had the best sloppy Joe's in the Chicagoland area. We placed our order at the counter after a short wait. The restaurant is old but clean. We ordered a sloppy Joe, a beef/sausage combo and a cheese fry. The beef/sausage sandwich was good. Really good flavors especially with a little char on the sausage (I was only going to give Beef Villa 2 stars but I remembered the beef/sausage was pretty tasty). The cheese fries were alright. However, the sloppy Joe, the reason why we were there, was absolutely terrible. We cut it in fourths and ended up throwing away 3/4 of it. Skip the Joe and eat the combo. read more

Ambience is a no frills basic hot dog shop vibe. There's a few tables to eat inside, and the inside of the establishment is moderately clean. Service wasn't good or bad; just meh. The food, well I thought it was subpar. I got four Chicago dogs, a polish, and a pizza puff. The hot dogs were slim and the pickles were huge. The Chicago dogs tasted more like a veggie roll considering the meat to veggie size and ratio. The polish was forgettable, and the fried that came with the dogs needed more salt or something as they were super bland. The only thing I'd come back for is the pizza puff, which I would rank 3/5. This place is way too expensive considering the quality and quantity of their food. I don't recommend trying them, and I won't be back. read more

This is the best hot dog spot in Elgin. There are a few Beef Villas in the area but this one, I think the original one is the best. Clean inside. Fast service and prices are fair. The last 2 times I've visited, the kid taking the orders and payment has been absolutely rude and condescending, not only to me but also other customers. This is normally my favorite place. I have been eating here since I was a kid! Not sure if it is new management or what but it was horrible. The hot mix was rancid and slushy. Awful. My pepper sandwich was good. The fries were all small bits and pieces. The onion rings were all broken pieces- not one whole ring. My husband got an italian beef- awful. Tasted like Arby's or Carl Buddig processed shoe leather. The worst part to top it off- it was FREEZING in this place. It was probably 50-60 degrees in the place. Extremely uncomfortable. We are done visiting this location as this is second bad visit and my hands were turning blue. Very sad. read more

Atmosphere: nothing fancy. Just a counter and a couple of tables. Get in. Get your food. Get out. Bites: The food here was good. It wasn't great but it was good. The beef sandwich was a solid 4. The sweet peppers could've been sliced better. The fries were crispy and fresh. The polish sausage was good, and bread was soft. Cleanliness: The restaurant seemed clean. Service: Not very friendly. Figure out what you want before you get there. Don't hold up the line. They seem to get annoyed if you do. Overall: not a bad place to eat. The food was good. I don't travel this way very often. I remember coming to Beef Villa back in the early 70's. It was the first place I remember having poppy seed buns and hotdogs that popped when you bit into them. My parents owned a little gift shop right across the street that now is a pizza place. On weekends I would go help out at the store and we would always go to Beef Villa for a Juicy Italian Beef with the green peppers. What memories. Unfortunately after all this time they have changed. My wife and I were in the area and decided to stop in for one of those hotdogs I have fond memories of. We went in and placed our order. We decided to eat in at one of the 3 tables they have (it's a very small place). When we went to sit down my wife noticed how dirty all of the tables were. There were four employees behind the counter and not very busy. You would think they might go out and wipe down the tables and maybe sweep the small floor a couple times a day. We ended up just using the hotdog wrappers to cover the dirty tables. I didn't even notice until I took a bite of my hotdog and it didn't pop. That's when I seen my wrapper and it was a Red Hot Chicago hotdog and not a Vienna hotdog. Don't get me wrong, the hotdog was still good but it didn't pop. I don't know when they changed the brand of hotdogs they serve, but in my opinion it wasn't for the better. When we left the place, you can see where they pulled the old Vienna Beef Hotdog signs off the building. Sorry for the rant. Now to my review. This used to be a special place to come to when we were in the area. Hotdogs again were good but not memorable. The fries were cooked perfect. Fresh, hot, and very crispy. I didn't have a beef sandwich so I can't review that. If I'm really hungry when passing by I would probably stop again but, I wouldn't go out of my way to go here anymore. Oh one last thing. I ordered a large drink and when we were leaving I was going to ask for a refill. I then noticed a little message printed on the cup. "Refills are 50 cents". Larkin location: I ordered a lot during Covid and paid a ridiculous price for it. Now I'm in the hospital and all I want is broasted chicken. I went to order online last night and to get a 4 piece dinner I had to add to order for minimum order. With the delivery and other insane fees, my total was $28. Not the first time I have gone to order and got disgusted to be charged $28 for an $8 meal. So, will never go there again and bitch to everyone I know. Word of mouth is important. 10/24/21 Released from hospital went to Larkin, ordered ALL DARK, waited 10 minutes, got home, 2 pieces of dark, 2 of white and this is what it looked like when I opened the box. 11/5/21, I just ordered going through Uber Eats and there was no minimum but if you order from Beef Villa's site there is. This Beef Villa is a great place to stop. The guy who took my order was friendly, fast and helpful. The burger & fries I got were cooked to order and was just great. The only disadvantage I see here is the small dining room. There's only a few places to sit inside. For a six or seven dollar lunch, the Beef Villa is fantastic. I'll definitely be back. read more

Tasty beefs and they are generous with the sweet peppers when you add them to your beef order. They also have a big jar of giardiniera on the counter to add at no additional charge when dining in, which is nice since I prefer a combo of sweet & hot peppers. The staff was all very friendly, greeting each diner enthusiastically upon arrival & asked how everything was when departing. They have 3 tables that each seat 4 inside along with a small counter if you want to eat-in. They do a brisk take-out business so at peak times there might be a line but they prepare the food super fast so the wait is minimal. read more

So I've been here many times. The food.....I've tried many of the items and have never been disappointed! I have friends and family that also feel the same! My dad is especially picky, Ruben no pickle! Lol! I feel weird when I order it like they gotta be thinking, it's just a damn pickle get over it! Lol! But they never give a odd look and they always remember no pickle! I love there fries! The large is ridiculous big! Great for 2 people! Customer service....I LOVE ALL THE GUYS THERE! Everyone is so upbeat and friendly! If they're having problems they definitely don't bring it to work! They're great with timing if I place an order over the phone. I gave them another shot as they are a local staple in my area. I have to say, first of all the young lady at the counter was extremely polite, and efficient. She moved fast, but had time for customer service. A+ in my book. Next the food was really good. I gave the Italian beef another shot and it was amazing. I do not know what happened before, but this time it was on point. All that was missing was hot giardiniera. But I think that was my fault. It is self serve and I might have grabbed the wrong one.
