Best chicken around orders take a long time but it is worth it you can save time by ordering ahead

so I've been coming here for a while and not much has changed over 20+ years: of course there's a different person doing the food for cash exchange; still have wooden picnic tables under the canopy out front but w/o window service - orders and payment and pick-up are handled inside; dining room has a dozen or so tables and seating with a little padding (more for appearances than effect) started with a small cherry dipped twist because the chickens are cooked to order and take about twelve minutes; the fries are skinny hot, crisp, and fresh; slaw is chopped and vinegary instead of sliced -n- creamy and I can't help but like it because it's a little sweet; chickens are smallish but broasted; so crispy and crunchy, tender and moist, and comes with a soft roll and instead of a biscuit because it always has... getting to be late in the day and late season and there's a chill in the air. lots of carry out but nobody hanging around. sign on the wall says they haven't picked a closing date yet but it won't be too far off now. seems everyone has something better to do besides hanging around eating chicken but I can't for the life of me guess what that would be... unless maybe ice cream? read more

Awesome food and coleslaw great service decent prices great raspberry shakes nice family atmosphere

Took the 40 mile cruise and was first in the door on day 2 of their 67th season. Cheeseburger was not as tasty as I remembered. Bun was on the cusp of being stale. They must charge extra for tartar sauce, even though it was not disclosed. There was barely any of it on my burger. Hung out in the area and stopped back for chicken for dinner. The only thing hot and fresh in my 4 piece dinner was the breast. Leg, thigh, wing and fries were barely warm and skimpy on the meat. I've never experienced that here before. I had asked for my malt to be made when I was ready to leave and was told no problem. They didn't follow my request and it was served with the meal. The magic was not there today. Didn't notice anyone wiping down the tables either. I'm sure they will find their grove. read more

It's nostalgic and unique but I've had better chicken and desserts at nearly any other place I've tried.... Chicken was 3/5 fries 3/5 and the cherry slushy had zero flavor it was red icy sugar water (they must have mixed something incorrectly) read more

I have been coming to chick n dip for years..it's about 55 min ride for us but worth it until yesterday. This was our first visit this year and was really disappointed. I ordered the wing dinner and the wings were extremely small and way over cooked. Wings really small, no meat and no flavor & cooked too much. All bones. Fries were over cooked as well. Very hard to bite into. Sad, cause this was the first time it wasn't delicious! Maybe it was just a bad night. Cashier was very nice and polite! Can't say enough amazing things about this gem! Chicken is the BEST and I mean BEST ever!!! It's piping hot and juicy every single time! The restaurant itself is a step back into days of simpler times; dining inside and out - the wave of nostalgia is amazing! Built in 1958 it is a local icon that is a must visit! Service is spectacular! You are always greeted with a smile and happiness even with them running around to make sure every customer is treated with quickness and respect! One of the owners is always present and not just taking care of their customers and the food they cook/serve but also their employees which seems to be local teens! Honest-to-god BROASTED chicken!!!! Juicy, hot, not greasy, and flavorful. Very flavorful and worth the trip out from the City. Coleslaw was really good because there was no mayo. Fries were hot and not mushy. Didn't need the standard-issue white bread bun because the pieces of chicken were plump and the serving of fries was generous. As for ambiance? The food was soooo good! Was my first time trying it and it was delicious. Didn't finish all my food so I ended up with leftovers and they were just as good later that day. Great fried chicken. Made to order so it usually takes about 15 minutes. We usually eat on our tailgate.

This is one of those classic, hometown, seasonal places that makes wonderful food in a charming environment. There is a walk up window out front and dining inside and out. During COVID, the staff wore masks in accordance with the mandates in Illinois. This place cooks to order, so be prepared for a bit of a wait at times if you don't phone ahead. I noticed a number of customers picking up orders previously phoned in. Also VERY important, they only accept CASH. No credit cards, debit cards, checks, etc. I decided to order from the counter inside and wait patiently for my food. I ordered the two chicken leg special with coleslaw and fries. Since everything is cooked to order, the chicken and fries arrived hot. The chicken is broasted, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready. While the chicken was excellent, the real star of the show for me was the coleslaw. It's a vinegar based recipe that's perfectly tart and sweet at the same time somehow. After I finished eating it, I used the roll that came with my meal to soak up the rest of the vinegar sauce in the coleslaw cup. Awesome! I drove about half an hour to get here, and it was so worth it. Looking forward to them reopening in the spring! read more

Good Ole Chick N Dip. This local joint is a staple in the town of Hampshire, IL. Located on State St. This establishment has been around 70 years!!! Wow!!! Prices are great! If you are in the area and looking for something different or unique...come here! The chicken is even better. Known for their "broasted" chicken, this place offers ice cream, fries, onion rings, burgers, hot dogs, and more. There is something for everyone!!! I've ate at many places like this when I lived in the south so I was happy to find this place when we moved up here to IL. You order at the window or inside and can eat inside in the small dining area, or outside at the tables, or inside your car or they offer takeout/call ahead! This is my second time I've been here. My husband and I went to Chick-N-Dip. My first time; his second. It was worth the drive. The staff were courteous and we loved the option to sit outside under the covered patio since it was such a beautiful day. I ordered the two piece snack. The chicken is cooked to order and came out hot and crispy. The breast was moist, fully cooked through and delicious! The snack came with fries, coleslaw and bread (some fries were eaten before the picture was taken). The fries were hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The coleslaw though stole the show. It was vinegar based and reminded me of my favorite from a major chain but without the mayo. Totally delicious! To top of the meal I had a chocolate ice cream dipped in chocolate. It was so good I dove right in and didn't get the picture. I'd happily make the trip back for another meal! read more

Gave this place a chance & was not very impressed with the way my food turned out. Burgers always come out very messy & greasy. Fries are alright but not the best. Going inside their restaurant & I notice this bad smell in the air.
