You can call ahead and order your broasted chicken. We usually do a dinner. They have a vinegar based Cole slaw that is delicious. Only cash, which keeps the costs down. Pricing is very reasonable. Not really an eat in kind place but we bring insulated bags to keep food hot on trip home. read more

Drove out on a gorgeous fall day to see what all the hype was about. Welllll this chicken is to die for yes it takes 15-20 mins but well worth it. Big juicy wonderful perfection . Old fashion Cole slaw and fires . Most people had chicken but did see some other items and ice cream. Can't believe I haven't tried them earlier as they are seasonal and closing soon ... a blast from the past in the best way P.S it's cash only read more

Literally the best chicken I've ever had in my life. Juicy and so crispy. They also have really good ice cream

so I've been coming here for a while and not much has changed over 20+ years: of course there's a different person doing the food for cash exchange; still have wooden picnic tables under the canopy out front but w/o window service - orders and payment and pick-up are handled inside; dining room has a dozen or so tables and seating with a little padding (more for appearances than effect) started with a small cherry dipped twist because the chickens are cooked to order and take about twelve minutes; the fries are skinny hot, crisp, and fresh; slaw is chopped and vinegary instead of sliced -n- creamy and I can't help but like it because it's a little sweet; chickens are smallish but broasted; so crispy and crunchy, tender and moist, and comes with a soft roll and instead of a biscuit because it always has... getting to be late in the day and late season and there's a chill in the air. lots of carry out but nobody hanging around. sign on the wall says they haven't picked a closing date yet but it won't be too far off now. seems everyone has something better to do besides hanging around eating chicken but I can't for the life of me guess what that would be... unless maybe ice cream? read more

Awesome food and coleslaw great service decent prices great raspberry shakes nice family atmosphere

Took the 40 mile cruise and was first in the door on day 2 of their 67th season. Cheeseburger was not as tasty as I remembered. Bun was on the cusp of being stale. They must charge extra for tartar sauce, even though it was not disclosed. There was barely any of it on my burger. Hung out in the area and stopped back for chicken for dinner. The only thing hot and fresh in my 4 piece dinner was the breast. Leg, thigh, wing and fries were barely warm and skimpy on the meat. I've never experienced that here before. I had asked for my malt to be made when I was ready to leave and was told no problem. They didn't follow my request and it was served with the meal. The magic was not there today. Didn't notice anyone wiping down the tables either. I'm sure they will find their grove. read more

It's nostalgic and unique but I've had better chicken and desserts at nearly any other place I've tried.... Chicken was 3/5 fries 3/5 and the cherry slushy had zero flavor it was red icy sugar water (they must have mixed something incorrectly) read more

The food was great and service was outstanding. The indoor seating area is nice. Just a quick note they only take cash.

Best chicken around orders take a long time but it is worth it you can save time by ordering ahead

The fried chicken look good , but it did not have any flavor at all. Terrible! Service is good and ambience is good. Put some seasoning on that fried chicken please. read more

Great service. Friendly folks. Chicken is out of this world. Got the 8 piece to go. Waited in the pleasantly cool air conditioned dining room for about 15 minutes. 13 minute drive home was killing us with the aroma of the best chicken you've ever tasted filling the car. Unpacked it when we got home and still piping hot. Best chicken hands down on National no dirty dishes day. read more

Can't say enough amazing things about this gem! Chicken is the BEST and I mean BEST ever!!! It's piping hot and juicy every single time! The restaurant itself is a step back into days of simpler times; dining inside and out - the wave of nostalgia is amazing! Built in 1958 it is a local icon that is a must visit! Service is spectacular! You are always greeted with a smile and happiness even with them running around to make sure every customer is treated with quickness and respect! One of the owners is always present and not just taking care of their customers and the food they cook/serve but also their employees which seems to be local teens! They speak with kindness and you hear lots of laughs too! Do these folks a favor - stop on by, pick up lunch/dinner and TIP them generously as you know it's going to help their staff save for their futures and help their families!!! You will not be disappointed!!! read more

The chicken was delicious it was both crispy and moist just like fried chicken should be. The service was great the girl that took our order was very attentive and got the order 100% correct. read more

I have been coming to chick n dip for years..it's about 55 min ride for us but worth it until yesterday. This was our first visit this year and was really disappointed. I ordered the wing dinner and the wings were extremely small and way over cooked. Wings really small, no meat and no flavor & cooked too much. All bones. Fries were over cooked as well. Very hard to bite into. Sad, cause this was the first time it wasn't delicious! Maybe it was just a bad night. Cashier was very nice and polite! Will try again and hopefully it will be the same as it use to be. read more

Chicken is delicious. It's what they're known for. Service is friendly. Small town place. You'll have to wait a little because the chicken is made fresh. read more

Positives: good food, pleasant staff, outside seating, ice cream treats. Nice to see a local establishment instead of another fast food outlet. Negatives: it's kinda tired feeling, potions are on the small side. Want a local feel , this is your place it's been there for quite some time and does take you back to a previous time. read more

Honest-to-god BROASTED chicken!!!! Juicy, hot, not greasy, and flavorful. Very flavorful and worth the trip out from the City. Coleslaw was really good because there was no mayo. Fries were hot and not mushy. Didn't need the standard-issue white bread bun because the pieces of chicken were plump and the serving of fries was generous. As for ambiance? Who cares when the food is really good and it's cooked to order. read more

The food was soooo good! Was my first time trying it and it was delicious. Didn't finish all my food so I ended up with leftovers and they were just as good later that day. Definitely worth the visit! Place was also very clean, I noticed they cleaned the tables after people left, they even cleaned tables that were unused. read more

Chick-N-Dip - 4 piece dinner - American Near Me - Hampshire, Illinois

This is one of those classic, hometown, seasonal places that makes wonderful food in a charming environment. There is a walk up window out front and dining inside and out. During COVID, the staff wore masks in accordance with the mandates in Illinois. This place cooks to order, so be prepared for a bit of a wait at times if you don't phone ahead. I noticed a number of customers picking up orders previously phoned in. Also VERY important, they only accept CASH. No credit cards, debit cards, checks, etc. I decided to order from the counter inside and wait patiently for my food. I ordered the two chicken leg special with coleslaw and fries. Since everything is cooked to order, the chicken and fries arrived hot. The chicken is broasted, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready. While the chicken was excellent, the real star of the show for me was the coleslaw. It's a vinegar based recipe that's perfectly tart and sweet at the same time somehow. After I finished eating it, I used the roll that came with my meal to soak up the rest of the vinegar sauce in the coleslaw cup. Awesome! I drove about half an hour to get here, and it was so worth it. Looking forward to them reopening in the spring! read more

Great fried chicken. Made to order so it usually takes about 15 minutes. We usually eat on our tailgate.

Best kept secret for broiled chicken. Can't wait til they reopen for summer! I think no cards here but that's cool w me as long as they keep it yummy! read more

Chicken is done to perfection. Always hot, delicious and tasty. Recommend the boasted chicken, Cole slaw is excellent. My husband and I moved back from Florida n back to the Huntley area a year ago n the Chicken Dip was one of the first places we came back to eat. Cliental are very nice also. They are the best, nothing fancy but great food. Bill & Anne Skidmore read more

Good Ole Chick N Dip. This local joint is a staple in the town of Hampshire, IL. Located on State St. This establishment has been around 70 years!!! Wow!!! Prices are great! If you are in the area and looking for something different or unique...come here! The chicken is even better. Known for their "broasted" chicken, this place offers ice cream, fries, onion rings, burgers, hot dogs, and more. There is something for everyone!!! I've ate at many places like this when I lived in the south so I was happy to find this place when we moved up here to IL. You order at the window or inside and can eat inside in the small dining area, or outside at the tables, or inside your car or they offer takeout/call ahead! This is my second time I've been here. The staff is friendly, the inside dining area was clean, the restrooms were clean, and our food came out correct as ordered and HOT! Their fries are like shoestring fries. They have cheese fries too, yum! I will be back Chick N Dip. CA$H ONLY! read more

My husband and I went to Chick-N-Dip. My first time; his second. It was worth the drive. The staff were courteous and we loved the option to sit outside under the covered patio since it was such a beautiful day. I ordered the two piece snack. The chicken is cooked to order and came out hot and crispy. The breast was moist, fully cooked through and delicious! The snack came with fries, coleslaw and bread (some fries were eaten before the picture was taken). The fries were hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The coleslaw though stole the show. It was vinegar based and reminded me of my favorite from a major chain but without the mayo. Totally delicious! To top of the meal I had a chocolate ice cream dipped in chocolate. It was so good I dove right in and didn't get the picture. I'd happily make the trip back for another meal! read more

Best chicken and coleslaw around! Ordered 50 pieces for my sons graduation party last week and everyone loved it! I highly recommend for any group gatherings. read more

Food was good. Quick and so-so priced - although I think they'd do better charging a few pennies more and making portions bigger (as is the norm at these type places). Chicken is very tasty. Worth a try! read more

Best chicken I've had in my life! I drive 60 miles 3 times a summer to Hampshire just to enjoy their great food. M The service is very good..friendly as one would expect in a small town. I love vintage buildings character. Chick n Dip is a delicious trip down memory lane. read more

The service was quick and pleasant but the food has no seasoning. Neighborhood place to get ice cream and other frozen treats. Has a drive in feel but you still need to go inside to pick up/order. read more

Chick-N -Dip is an old mainstay of great food in Hampshire. Phenomenal broasted chicken, burgers, Italian beef's and sides topped with great malts and ice cream. Wait all winter for them to reopen and enjoy very often during their Spring/summer/early fall season. 5 stars read more

Place is starting to let me down. Food is what it is supposed to be but the wait time for chicken at lunchtime was far too long. Been there many times. Charming drive up cash-only old school place with outdoor seating at picnic tables. It's a bit overpriced for what it is. Fries can be good or terrible. Chicken is good but not great. I'm not a fan of any coleslaw but my group likes theirs. read more

Chick-N-Dip - American Near Me - Hampshire, Illinois

Cruising the backroads on a sweltering July 4th morning, I spied a vintage neon 'FOOD' sign doing nothin' but rusting away. Luckily, 'Chick-N-Dip' sits in its shadows. A classic 50's/60's style Drive-In that continues to defy the fate of the Dinosaur. It's all about Chicken and Ice Cream and not necessarily in that order. This is a place that encourages you to eat a big ass Ice Cream Cone during your 15 minute wait for some scrumptious Broasted Chicken! Needless to say, your Chicken is cooked to order. It's dipped in a thin flour coating that delivers a distinctive crunch on each and every bite. No flavor enhancement needed. Tender, Juicy and Damn Good! It's a simple presentation served piping hot that actually..."Tastes like Chicken". read more

Just good people and such a classic place to feel at home at. Going inside to get food- absolutely no problem for pick-up. Update would be nice eye-candy but try buying a new place and doing updates- can't be done. read more

Is there any place in the world that serves better fried chicken? If so, I've never been there. Not even a big fan of fried chicken...elsewhere. And while you are at it, try the vinegar based cole slaw. It is excellent. We live I Wisconsin and we go out of our way to hit Chick-N-Dip anytime that we are near Hampshire. We order 6 chicken breasts and a quart of slaw and just savor it Did I say that the chicken here is FANTASTIC? OUTSTANDING? DELICIOUS? Try it for yourself! read more

Fantastic fried chicken and even better fish! Wow! This place was everything and more! I can't believe how crisp and juicy it was. Definitely gonna be back. Their menu is quite extensive, the staff is nice and it's a throw back to the old 50s and 60s walkups. Looking forward to trying the ice cream next time. read more

Nice old style drive up diner. Really friendly staff. The roasted chicken was great. Can't wait to go back!

Gave this place a chance & was not very impressed with the way my food turned out. Burgers always come out very messy & greasy. Fries are alright but not the best. Going inside their restaurant & I notice this bad smell in the air. I understand the concept of keeping charm with an older historical business but there's much needed improvements on the food & maintenance before I come back in ever again. read more
