The flavor of beef wasn't very good and it was too salty as well as the au jus. The bun was almost stale. The peppers were skins, not slices. Fries were still good. I just left my local Beef Shack. I know it's $5 Hamburger. But when there's 8 cars in line those hamburgers should be on the grill and those fries should be frying. Waited 20 minutes just to get to order, then another 10 mins before I asked for a refund and left. It should not take 30 mins no to get a hamburger. Well it's been about 1year since my last bad experience at this place. Figured it's a local business,maybe it got better. NOPE ! Ordered 2 hot dogs, ketchup, easy relish,easy onion,easy mustard. They blew it- way too much relish,a couple onions,and to be honest not sure if there was any ketchup. Buns seem to be old/stale ,not steamed and soft/fresh. Well that sums up my 3 experiences in 3 years. Hope all who read this,think before they spend money here. Just a few miles away you have 3 or 4 options that provide better service ( No Attitude), correctly prepared orders, better pricing, better overall food !!! I've been to this place several times. I most recently went on a Tuesday and was informed by a fellow patron that "since it is Tuesday, then you have to get the$1 hot dogs." I actually came in thinking I'd get the Italian beef but decided for a $1 then I'd try the hot dog! The dog was good - not as good as Portillo's but it was a pretty good hot dog! Tuesday hotdogs special is great, but I would never pay full price for the hotdogs. Saturday shake special is also great. The food is always hot and the service is always very good. The French fries are second only to Gene and Jude's in River Grove, which means they are great. My only complaint is ordering condiments added like peppers on a beef. I ordered a beef and paid an extra $1.50 for green peppers. When I looked to make sure they were on there, I saw only two small pieces of pepper about the thickness of a pencil - not good. This Beef Shack location in Huntley is excellent some of the best fast food places in the area. I've had a couple other locations and tried other places but this location in Huntley is consistently very good. I've gone here for a few years and can say their beef is tasty and tender I like the cheesy beef on garlic bread, it gives the kick in taste it probably needs. I had planned my nerd outdoor hobby but shortly into it I went off the rails and free styled it which got me to drive past this place, Beef Shack sounded just the place to stop for a quick lunch. It's in mall row next to a 7/11 with plenty of parking. The place was packed and small so I didn't take any inside pictures because you can't discretely take any pictures with everyone two feet away from you eating and ordering food. Since it was standard room only so I thought I nailed lunch. The menu is fast food burgers, sandwiches, sides etc but the door said home of the cheesy beef so that's what I got. The frys are fresh cut in small batches so basically fresh cut to order I noticed but I didn't have any. I ordered the cheesey beef on garlic bread thinking of how past experiences were so good from other places. The sandwich came quickly through the moving oven that toasted the bread and melts the cheese. As I was into my third bite I'm like WTF this is all bread and no beef, my fourth bite had a little beef in it so I looked closer at the sandwich. The bread is pita style and not cut end to end and only the the bulk center is cut and filled with beef like a pocket so the ends are all bread. My second thaught is it's just bread, beef and melted cheese which was a dry sandwich for the most part and not very exciting so I will stick with Portillos for a tasty/moist beef sandwich with peppers and a decent enough aju for fast food. For the greater Chicago are you can do much better and at $8.50 for a bready beef sandwich which has less beef than the competition I would say one and done. read more

wow is all i can say!!! I was very surprised when i went to the drive thru and got a really huge chezzy beef and fries! The beef was very good nice and tender and very tasty! The fries are fresh cut and 5 stars i think it's the 1st time i ate all my fries in along time! will be back! Update 4/17/21 the last few times i went the beef's are a lot smaller now and it seems to me it's who is working that screws you and gives you a tiny beef.Today i finished it and the little tiny bag of fries and was still hungry! I knew when they gave me the bag it was sooo light not like before you could feel the weight of the beef sandwich now i get a bread and cheese sandwich! All the fast food here is great. We love the prices and coupons that they put out. Service is fast. We love the value for your dollar. The only thing that I would change is the bread on the beef sandwiches. It's a roll and not French bread like it is supposed to be. All other beef stands have their beef on French bread. read more

I've been going to Beef Shack for years. It all started with their St. Charles location back in the day. My friends were hyping up this new beef with garlic and I had to try it out and I'm glad I did! It's flavorful and delicious! Then I worked out in Schaumburg and started going to their Schaumburg location and the recipe is on point and there is no differences between the restaurants. I've always enjoyed a garlic beef with motz cheese and hot peppers and cheese fries and their shack sauce to dip in. On this specific time I did to go from their Huntley location. Here's a pro tip: I live in Crystal Lake now and there are times where we crave Beef Shack. When ordering to go ask them to keep the bread and beef separate so that when you get home you can put them together and pop them in the oven for 10 -15 mins to melt the cheese and toast the bread and it will be like eating at the restaurant. I now work in St. Charles, completing the Beef Shack circle of life but they closed down their St. Charles location to open up a new location, I think? Maybe the owners will read this review and comment on the STC location? I hope... Also I've been to both of their Elgin locations and it's just as good. I'm a beef shack slut. Very impressive. We were there on their one week anniversary of opening, and the place was bustling. The beef sandwiches are outstanding! Delicious flavorful beef, perfectly sautéed sweet green peppers polished off on an amazing bread. The "mini" fries are actually a generous portion, even two can share. AND they are fresh cut right in front of you! They have a generous side salad option as well as some other menu options. Interior is small, limited seating but nonetheless clean and rustic. With a new establishment, there are learning curves which I know they will work through as time progresses, so unlike a few of the reviews, I don't want to slam them in that category as that really isn't fair. This place has gotten everything right even with my annoying requests. They don't forget anything or mess up the order in any way! I asked my kids what they wanted for lunch today, and my son said "a Chicago hot dog" (as he recently discovered the taste sensation of a pure Vienna beef Chicago style hot dog). My daughter also said that sounded good. So I googled "best hot dogs near Huntley", and the Yelp listings popped up. There wasnt really anything nearby that intrigued me, as I've tried other places (like Tommy's and Big Sammy's) and nobody seems to make a REAL Chicago dog like you get in the city. Nor was I in the mood for a hot dog. So I came across Beef Shack within the generated Yelp search, and I read through several mixed reviews. I figured, what the hell...I'll give it a shot, and maybe I'll find a good Italian Beef nearby (which, again does not exist in this area). We arrived, just after noon, and they were moderate in business. A few cars in the drive through, and a few tables occupied (probably only 8 tables in total for seating). Saw the sign, "Home of the Cheezy Beef". I've seen several other beef joints use that same slogan. I'm still left to wonder, "Which place is the REAL home to the cheezy beef?" I think this was the first issue I had. Walking into the store, my shoes were slipping on their wood-look tile floor. Either this floor is too slick of a surface for customer traffic, or it was not mopped properly and needs a degreaser. Not safe at all. My kids surprised me...no longer did they want hot dogs (so I'll have to go back another time to review their dogs). My son ordered a cheeseburger. The burger is built with lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo. I think chipotle mayo is an odd option, and surprised they didn't have onions or pickles (or even ketchup and mustard) as options. He only had lettuce on it (though we did ask for ketchup and mustard after we got the burger). The burger looked nice, it was steaming hot, and he seemed to enjoy it. Though, it looked quite dry and grey in color. I think this was from a frozen patty. My daughter saw "cheezy beef" so she wanted that. I asked the size of the mini, the cashier motioned a size with his fingers, so we decided on the mini with "50% more beef" for an extra charge. When we got her mini beef, it was probably 2 to 3 inches smaller than what I was led to believe...and it WAS mini. I got a "large" beef with 50% more beef and sweet peppers and giardiniera. Maybe I'm used to the size you get at Al's beef in River North, but this was disappointing for the price. In fact, the "50% more beef" upcharge is a scam. I would be very interested to see how much you get in a regular portion. For $30-something total, I found this to be quite overpriced for the portion sizes. All I could taste was salt. I thought it was the beef, but it was really the bread. My bread had what seemed to be a garlic salt seasoning on it. This was definitely unexpected, and displeasing. I'm assuming they made a mistake and gave me the garlic bread? The beef was ok, nothing spectacular. Seemed a bit softer than it should be, and could have used a bit more flavor in the jus. The fresh cut fries...VERY oily. VERY salty. Fresh cut fries are meant to be prepared very specifically. Soaked to remove excess starches, blanched in oil at a lower temperature, then fried at a high temperature to order. I think their process is off, which results in soggy, oily fries. There were a LOT of flies in this place. We were swatting them away as we were trying to eat. Where did they come from? It was too excessive of an amount to accept. I laid out sheets of paper towels as placemats for each of us, mostly to dump the fries onto something. I'm glad I did. I did NOT see a single table get cleaned after a customer left. In fact, the dirty table next to us (where the flies were landing on what looked like either grease or soda spots) became occupied by two new customers. They took a paper towel and simply wiped off the surface. Now it all makes sense why there were so many flies...poor sanitation and cleanliness practices. It makes me wonder if the flies were breeding in the potato box that was sitting directly on the floor behind the line (instead of a minimum of 6 inches as required by health code). Wow...after really thinking things through while writing this review, I don't think I'll be going back to try their Chicago style hot dogs after all. read more

But don't understand the Tuesday hot dog day two per person but not if you go threw drive up. Then it's two per car!!! I have good things to say about Beef Shack. The ordering process is much better. It's really efficient. The staff is great, and they know their menu. The beef sandwich and fries are excellent. Everything tastes really fresh. The beef and fries are plentiful. I enjoy their Chicago style hotdog too. The toppings are great; loaded with fresh tomatoes. Like! Much improved. Good value.
