Have visited a couple of times and their menu has a great variety, staff is friendly and prices are comparable to other establishments. They are mainly a breakfast/lunch place but Friday and Saturday they are open till 8pm which is nice. We chose breakfast for dinner. I chose pancakes (craving!) and had them add choc chips. The choc chip add on was $2.25 which I thought excessive for 2 pancakes and they all fell to the bottom and tasted a bit burnt. I still got my pancake fix and was happy. Friend had eggs sausage toast and hashbrowns and was very happy with her meal. I'd definitely go back sans choc chips! read more

My brother and I are newish to the area, transplanted from Chicago. There was a Greek coffee shop in every neighborhood when we grew up. So we decided to try Papa Gs and were delighted we did. My brother had a classic cheeseburger which he promptly ate every morsel. Even though the breakfast menu beckoned I chose the Caesar chicken salad. The chicken was nicely cooked, moist and delicious. There was a ton of beautiful romaine lettuce and crunchy croutons. Most importantly the dressing was advertised as homemade so I thought I'd chance it - I have weird allergies to many commercially made dressings, but not this one! It was legit house made. Hostess was super sweet and friendly, so was our waitress. The man who got our drinks was rude when I asked for a water and saw they had Pepsi so decided to get that instead. He actually impatiently asked me to make up my mind. Ordered 2 pancakes (over cooked and very small), 2 pieces of bacon (dried out, overcooked) and 2 eggs over medium (WAY overcooked with hard yolks). Made the waitress aware and she asked the chef to redo it and since we sat near the kitchen we heard him complain. The bacon was redone--not great. The eggs weren't cooked enough. First time visiting. Won't return. Overpriced, inedible food and was hoping to support a local business. Won't return. read more

I love Greek owned diners. Papa G's is amongst the best. They have a large menu with lots of options from breakfast, lunch, dinners and desserts. The food is always fresh and delicious. The prices are good and portions are large. The service is great and friendly from the host, waitstaff and people who bus the table. All offer service with a smile. If you are interested in crispy hashbrowns with your breakfast, please don't go to Papa G's. My boyfriend and I went to Papa G's for a nice brunch with a skillet and some crispy hashbrowns. We were told by the owner, who was also manning the grill that " we are not doing that today." I am pretty sure we are not the only ones who like crispy hashbrowns and I did not realize that was a non-negotiable option for a breakfast and brunch place. We won't be going back. read more

Papa Gs is an all-day diner located in Huntley, IL, a far distant suburb of Chicago. In the before times, it was one of my regular go-to's for breakfast out, but I haven't back in until today. Their service is without fault, the food is terrific, and everything on the menu is fairly priced and a good value. I usually go for breakfast, and I did today, and what draws me to their breakfast (besides your food being prepared exactly how you order it) is their homemade bread option for toast.  I get the rye and it's superb. Got my eggs "up" and asked for my potatoes to be extra crispy, they were, and for the ham to have a little char on it (it did), I like the texture that gives the pork.  Their ham is "off the bone" meaning, sliced from a whole or half ham, not one of those weird chewy ham slices loaded with a brine injection that most places serve. Like most diners of this type in the area, most lunch and dinner entrees come with a complimentary bowl of soup in addition to your choice of sides.  Breakfast is served all day. There are daily specials, usually found on a board in the vestibule, or ask your server. Another feature I like about area diners is the tabletop offerings, always plenty of condiments, sweeteners, spreads for toast, a basket of creamer, and one chock-a-block full of butter and Papa G's is no exception. Like most places, Papa Gs has had some difficulty getting staffing levels back to normal and looking around the room, I'm gonna take a wild guess that a lot of family members are filling in.  And that's terrific, isn't it? The restaurant has a very lengthy menu of choices, no matter what time of day you're dining. The restaurant is located at 10502 IL-47, Huntley, IL 60142, just a few miles north of the I-80 Huntley exit. I'm happy they survived the difficulties, and wish them the best of luck for their continued success.  Oh, and the homemade bread?  You can get a loaf to go if you like! This place was good! I've heard good things and read all the reviews. The reviews didn't disappoint. Located off 47, in Huntley it's one of the only breakfast spots / diners in the area. The prices are better than Maple and Hash and Brunch Cafe- much more affordable. Food came out quick and piping hot, just as ordered! The menu is big which I loved! The offer lunch , apps, soups, salads, breakfast, sides, kids menu. They have booth seating, a bar, and tables. You are greeted by a hostess upon arrival who will seat you. Didn't visit the restrooms so I can't comment on those. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She mentioned to another table she's been working there 20 years so they know how to treat their employees! Lots of regulars appeared to be dining today. Parking lot is large but difficult to get out of if turning south onto 47. Hours are posted in picture below. They do offer take out. They have homemade bread and it was delicious! The food was as expected, small dinner food, not outstanding but not bad. Though everyone was super nice when we arrived and were quickly seated (on a Sunday morning) staff seemed very annoyed by the presence of children being children (even though we tried to keep them out of the way) and the waitress made faces and comments under her breath. This was disheartening because it's already hard for mothers to get out of the house, only to be judged by someone without sympathy who's only being asked to do their job. We were happy to find a place that could accommodate us on a Sunday morning but we didn't feel welcome with the kids. read more

Food was beyond amazing! Here is the thing, we all know it's a small local cafe, so we know what we want when entering this establishment. We want to fill at home, a little dingy inside, your food feeling like Papa and Nana are in the back making you breakfast or lunch. That's exactly what you get! I got the eggs, hashbrowns and toast. My eggs were cooked correctly, which doesn't always happen. My toast was homemade. And my hashbrowns were half crispy half soft, which ended up being fantastic! Also they have raspberry brisk ice tea which already wins points! Buttttttttt the best was our server! She was lovely and made us feel we are part of there family! She heard me talking about biscuit and gravy, and how a gravy can make a break this dish and she brought over a sample to try, without me asking. She overheard my convo and just did it. Reasonably priced, great service, and the food is actually really quite good. I usually get the crepes but have sampled a bunch of other things and they're all good to better. Crepes are excellent as are the omelettes. Pepsi products only sadly but that's the only downside for me. Last visit I ordered the chicken Marsala and while it was hardly traditional or authentic it was very delicious. Recommended. Great bargain for the quality in that area. read more

I love a genuine smile and eye contact. And that is the first thing I got when I walked into Papa G's. I spotted this place while driving through Huntley, IL. It was almost 1:00 and my stomach was telling me it was time to stop. I'm so glad I did. I took a seat at the bar and I'm glad I did. The first thing I noticed was the comedic chemistry between the staff. They were having fun and frankly cracked me up several times. It's good to see people enjoying their work. The soup of the day was vegetables it was a perfectly Illinois day. Cold and snowy. So I ordered a cup. I asked the server if it was made here and she said, "Oh yes. He makes everything right here." She delivered my soup. It did not disappoint. Very good. I order the liver. I know. This is were I lose almost all of you. Whatever. This is my review. It was perfect. Reminded of when mom used to make it. I opted for topping out with bacon instead of onions (I have to talk to people today). So good. With a chip of coffee the whole lunch cost me less than $12. Another dining jewel in the Huntley area. I had a hamburger whose exceptional taste was made even better by the home made beef noodle soup and crispy fries. The tasty iced tea was another plus. My wife had the pork cutlet with mashed potatoes that she claimed was among the best she has had. The atmosphere here is homey and comfortable and the service was great. Took the 1 year old grandchild with her parents for her "first time in a restaurant outing" for lunch. Food was hot and tasty. Everyone was pleased with their order. We got no negatives from the staff about having a toddler, but she was so taken with the activity of the waitresses, busboys and people at other tables that she didn't let out a peep. I happened in here by chance a few weeks ago on a Wednesday morning. I had two eggs over easy with corned beef. It came with hash browns and my choice of toast from HOMEMADE bread! I chose the rye, and it might be the best rye I've ever had in my whole entire life! The eggs and corned beef hash were very good as well. Service was fast and friendly. I don't know if I'll ever be back in Huntley but if I am - I'll probably stop in. read more

I am so sad that I moved out of Huntley every time we eat here. I wish they were closer. I would be here once a week, easily!! Let me start with saying one very important thing: they make, in house, their very own, potato pancakes. Any place that successfully makes potato pancakes homemade, is at the top of my list. They can be a little greasy, so be prepared or ask them to let them drain a little more. They also have Prime Rib on special on Saturdays and it's better than some steakhouses I know. Not fatty, and very well flavored. The cooks know how to season their food properly and that is something that can be hard to find. I love the prime rib here. They make their own bread and you get at least two versions in your bread basket. Their white and then a rye or wheat, typically. Pricing is totally reasonable and they really stuff you full of food for your buck. When you walk in, the door reads: "Just good food" and it really is. It's not fancy, you don't have to dress up, no reservations required, and certainly no hoity-toity people at the table next to you. They have excellent service and just know how to make good food. read more

"Just Good Food" as their sign says. My favorite is the roast pork w/dressing. Comes w/soup or salad -- their creamy garlic dressing is scrumptious.
