I've noticed that their eggs are very fresh. Some places serve eggs that kind of smell funky. Their pancakes are never over or under. This sounds nitpicky but you wouldn't believe how many places mess this up. The seasonal items look really good. The skillets are loaded. The stuffed french toast has orange zest, cream cheese, whipped cream, and is delicious. I recently had cinnamon swirl pancakes, with cinnamon swirled into the batter. They are huge and kind of gave Cinnabon vibes, so good, and, definitely sharable. Their coffee is decent. Servers are nice. You can't lose if you pull into Buttered Toast.

There is a dirty dish trolley that loops the dining area constantly so you get the visual of other people's dirty dishes and food for your entire meal. It also clinks when it goes past you so prepare for that. There are short benches for the booth so the woman behind me who had very long hair and kept tossing it over her shoulder had her hair lande on MY shoulder each time she adjusted it. Taller benches or a glass partition of sorts would've been nice. The paint is chipping all around, the contact paper covering the table is peeling, it's just very poorly maintained in here. It's giving diner vibes in a place that's meant to look like a nice brunch spot. When I go into a diner I'm expecting a little bit of ick; was not expecting it here. In addition to this, our waitress appeared to not like her job today which added an additional sprinkle of awkward to an already icky experience. We saw her once. My mother's lemon ricotta pancakes didn't arrive until a good 10 minutes after my plate showed up. To her credit, the server apologized more than once and comped the pancakes. One bright spot: the donut holes came out piping hot and were genuinely delicious. Overall, I'd give this place some time to iron out the issues before trying it again -- or just stick with one of the local diners in town.

Our waitress tells us the business previously at this location got a make over when participating in a foodnetwork TV show. Sweet. The decor is earthy colors with wood on the walls, fun signs, comfortable booths and tables for groups. Highchairs are available for your tiny family members. A hostess will seat you with menus and flatware wrapped in a napkin. Salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, jelly, syrup, ketchup and hot sauces are on the table. One side of the menu is breakfast, the other lunch. We were asked right away if we would like coffee. The staff here are all very nice and welcoming. Different members of staff came around to all tables several times during our stay refilling coffees as needed. Our waitress checked in on us a couple of times and actually stopped at the table to be sure we had all we needed, not just running past. We both ordered breakfast and the portions are generous. I had the Irish Bene and they don't skimp on the smoked salmon! The eggs were poached well, a generous amount of spinach and the potato pancake is tasty and light. I very much enjoyed their coffee. Strong, hot and smooth. Not at all bitter. Yay. Two remodled, single-person restrooms are at the back of the restaurant where you'll also find hooks for your coat. We attempted to give our name and we were assured they knew what order to seat people. Some smart people just walked in and sat down without asking. Service was incredibly poor - the waitress had a gruff artitude. I always comment that service is attentive and friendly in about 99.99% of my reviews because I understand that waitressing is a super tough job. This waiteess brought the wrong food and then insisted they got the order right. When we weren't willing to accept the wrong food, they were irritated. After things got corrected the waitress attempted to get back on solid ground. It may have just been a bad day for her but it soured our visit (and yet we still tipped over 20% cuz we know it is a tough job). The food was about a 3.5. The chicken breast sandwich was a bit dry but the rye bread was delicious. The corned beef hash was decent and was a generous portion. The sausage gravy and eggs were as expected. I wish they had fresh fruit as an option but the grilled tomatoes were tasty. The angry waitress may tainted our opinion of the food. The prices were reasonable and the location on the square is super convenient. If I go here again I will post another review and hoping my opinion will be more positive as I typically love small privately owned restaurants with some history.
