Came here with my son for breakfast recently and we were very pleased. The food is outstanding and the service could not be friendlier . The owner stopped by and we had a very nice conversation . Andy's is one of the last of great old fashioned diners- they have the best pancakes around - light fluffy and their multi-grain ones with cinnamon butter delish and I'm normally not a lover of multi-grain!! We arrived just after 7am. We were greeted by a very pleasant lady who took care of us with a smile and great hospitality. She kept the coffee cups full! We ordered the shamrock Benedict and the 2x4 with French toast. My husband loved the shamrock Benedict and from the bite that he shared I can see why! They were generous with the hollandaise and it was delicious! I asked for cinnamon butter for the French toast and it did not disappoint! I highly recommend trying this if you haven't already! It was a typical old school looking diner with a counter and older decor but it is all part of that ambiance and feel. Can not believe we've waited 17 years to finally try this local diner. Been here twice this summer. Once for lunch and this morning for breakfast. We were seated at a booth and promptly visited by three employees. One to give us our menu; one to ask for drinks; one to take our order or answer any questions. Needing a few moments to look over the menu and specials menu, then we placed our order. Teenage son had the Nutella crepe and loved it. Hubby ordered a Denver-style Skillet with a side of multigrain pancakes and sugar free syrup. I ordered the hash skillet with a side of pancakes. Delicious! Would order again! * First visit was in July when grandma was in town. Grandma and teenage son both ordered the Francheesy (sp?) which is a cheese and bacon wrapped hotdog that's deep fried. The food here is always fresh and perfectly cooked! I've never had a bad meal. The service is consistently excellent, and the staff are very personable. They're amazing! The customer service is phenomenal and great, all of them has a wonderful personality, and a fantastic sense of humor, even when a full glass of water spills everywhere. Local place that made it through the pandemic. We live incredibly close. Down the street. The owners and employees will give you are little or as much attn as you want. I mean that in the greatest way. If you want to come in and order and be left alone. They will get it. You want to talk about the town and shoot the shit. They are more then accommodating. I guess my point is that you don't have to get the local experience. They will leave you alone if you don't want that. Not many places like this made it thru the closing of stores. This place did because they care about you being there. I love the Benedict. Mexican and normal. Me and the family show up and the kids color and drink out of special kids cups. We would go much more often if times were not so tough financially. I believe it's important for them to enjoy going out to a local place where everyone is so polite. I would recommend breakfast on Saturday or Sunday. Don't be afraid to let them know it's your first time. Hope to see you there. read more

I've been coming to this place ever since I was a little girl. It is a tradition to come here all together as a family every time we are in town. Their family is like family to us. I would recommend the place based of the people alone. However on top of the great people, their food is on point! You would think with such a large menu it can't all be good. But I can say between all my family we've pretty much tried close everything on the menu over the years. And it never disappoints. Every time I go I try to get something different. However, I ALWAYS have to get a cup of their chicken noodle soup. It's like, the most important thing. The last time I was there I got the cod sandwich (the fried one, but there are other options) and as always it didn't disappoint. Also you gotta try the seasoned fries!!! Ugh I wish I was there right now to eat this picture all over again hahaha. Anyways, don't miss out and go enjoy the family diner vibe and some delicious food! To any out-of-towners passing through.... make sure you come to ANDYS FAMILY RESTAURANT for food. Hands down great breakfast! But there's more....EVERYTHING we saw come to tables nearby looked amazing and delicious. Don't forget dessert. Yummy!!!!! To those who are GF there are options for you just talk to the staff. Ask for JAMIE she is awesome waitress. Quick, efficient, and funny! Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the owners walked by and said hi. They made sure we were well taken care of while we enjoyed our food. This place is family friendly, has parking all around and clean bathrooms (with a changing table in the stalls). I have lived in Lake In The Hills for 17 years and went to Andy's for the first time just last Saturday. I will admit that diners were not always on my list of where I wanted to go but I am a convert (maybe crossing 50-years old had something to do with that?). Anyways, Andy's is a treat! Huge menu - it is massive. The quality of that food is great. In the area you have several options: Benedict's (which I love, but is a bit more expensive) and Tony's (which I love for lunch but cannot rave about their breakfast). Andy's seems to have prices that are at that Diner level but quality near Benedict's. I had one of their skillets and it was excellent: sausage, mushrooms, etc., a bed of hash browns and two eggs; on the side were two pancakes. The portions are massive! To be honest, I would order my meal and request a box next time (right up front) so I could unload 1/2 of my skillet into the box and then eat what is left. I did bring home 1/2 of my skillet and had it the next day - it was excellent. I did upgrade to their multi-grain pancakes and loved them. Overall cost was not bad - three people ate off the adult menu for under $40 and everyone loved their meal. read more

Me and a couple of co-workers stopped by for a good breakfast, and we didn't want your regular IHop dishes. We wanted some thing that would fill us up for the day and not leave us feeling tired. Right away when we walked in this place was clean and friendly. There was someone right at the door greeting us as we walked in. We were sat down quickly and with a smile. Immediately our waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and within seconds we had three cups of coffee and glasses of water. I have to say I was super impressed with the speed and on what seemed to be a slow Wednesday. Right across from our table was a large party of gentlemen that seemed to have had a great time and that also caught my attention that these people were doing a great job. So on to our meals, I ordered an THE INCREDIBLE OMELETTE with hash browns and it was incredible! nothing on my plate felt heavy or overly greasy with butter. I was amazed at how this large plate filled me up with making me feel heavy. My co-workers order Chicken and waffles and your basic eggs sunny side up with harsh browns and bacon. Everyone loved their food and loved the fast service. The eggs came out scrambled by accident but within seconds my co-worker had sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. She loved them. The waffles were soft and just the right amount of fluffy and the chicken was delicious. Let me tell you, for breakfast this place is exactly where you want to eat. The best part was the story we received from the owners daughter (Angie) who stated that the business has been in operation for 40 years and survived during COVID! That's amazing. She also told us how one of her cooks have been working there for over 30 years. Like I said this place is exactly what Yelp was designed for. Angie seemed like the heart and soul of the restaurant, she stood next to us to see how we were doing and just talked with us like we were family, it felt great. When Angie was done talking with us she greeted the next customer and started another conversation right away talking about what it's like eating out in our current situation. I have to say the next time I'm in Crystal Lake, I'll have to stop by again, but not for the food but for the conversation. read more

Cute family place. The owner was walking around checking tables so genuine local place. The eggs were good. The sausage patties were also pretty good. Sadly nothing I had was amazing. I like to support small businesses and they are taking all proper covid precautions. Every other table is closed and they clean it right up after a customer has eaten there. The coffee was average to bland. I would skip the biscuits and gravy. Not sure about the other reviews but it was pretty disappointing. Gravy tasted like it was out of a can. Was heading from Chicago to Madison, so I thought I'd stop en route and get a tasty breakfast on the back roads, and my back road of choice to Madison is US 14, so I hit Andy's Family Restaurant in Crystal Lake, IL. Over ordered, not a surprise, went with the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs, the place was jammed, but service was prompt and friendly, they have had lots of practice, this place has been around for years. Breakfast..as tasty as it looks. Omlette was flat, overcooked, & dry. The requested extra crispy hashbrowns were dark on top and yet no color otherwise. The pancakes tasted stale and the $3 fresh blueberries ordered with it were deflated like raisins as if they were frozen, thawed, and frozen (also not tasty). On the positive- being inside was a flashback from childhood with the outdated style and the service was great! Our coffee was refilled and more butter was happily provided. read more
