I don't often eat breakfast, but when this behemoth yet georgeos dad bod requires ample sustenance, this place always satisfies. FYI, Burnt Toast in Algonquin is now Buttered Toast, and still hits. I'm always surprised at how hot, fresh, and fast the food is served. The servings are huge. I've noticed that their eggs are very fresh. Some places serve eggs that kind of smell funky. Their pancakes are never over or under. This sounds nitpicky but you wouldn't believe how many places mess this up. The seasonal items look really good. The skillets are loaded. The stuffed french toast has orange zest, cream cheese, whipped cream, and is delicious. I recently had cinnamon swirl pancakes, with cinnamon swirled into the batter. They are huge and kind of gave Cinnabon vibes, so good, and, definitely sharable. Their coffee is decent. Servers are nice. You can't lose if you pull into Buttered Toast. read more

I was in the area visiting friendly. We tried an unsavory (well-known) breakfast restaurant the day before, so we tried to re-do it with a new spot. Buttered Toast is a cozy, chic bistro in the Algonquin/Crystal Lake area. Our waitress's was prompt, although she did disappear when we wanted our check. A simple flag down and someone else was able to help us. The food wasn't bad either. My Dad got a Breakfast with 2 Eggs, Ham and Pancakes. He said it wasn't anything remarkable, but wasn't bad. I enjoyed my Chilaquiles but the chips were rather soggy. It was pretty filling. Very limited coffee options. More staff is needed to have quicker service. We would come back if need-be. read more

Stopped for breakfast before a fun day of holiday shopping. The restaurant was already decorated beautifully for the holidays. Amanda was our server and she was delightful. The menu was expansive but it was the seasonal specials that really grabbed my attention. We opted for two oatmeal cookie chai lattes, crepes and a yummy seasonal eggs bendict dish. Great food + great service + great ambiance= great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch! read more

Food was great, service friendly, offerings are plentiful, only downside when it comes to syrup choices, just advice. Wrong syrup can ruin any great pancake waffle crepes order. Maple syrup choice even as an up charge is better than Alternatives read more

Service was great- food was like a disappointing Dennys? Overall, even the simple dishes like an eggs over easy or hash browns were missing salt. The bacon that was ordered extra with the pancakes was barely cooked. The blueberry pancakes crumbled like they were gluten free - strange texture. The texture on the Banana nut French toast was strange as well- spongy - and we did not eat much of that. The eggs Benedict was the worst item at the table. The Canadian bacon was rubbery and the hollandaise sauce tasted like it came from an envelope or premade. I usually am not disappointed with a brunch, but I was with this place. The mimosas were good and strong .... read more

I've been to Buttered Toast many times; mostly with friends or with my kids before a day of shopping (we used to always have brunch here on our school supply shopping day). This visit was with my mom and 17 year old daughter for a late breakfast before spending the day shopping. We arrived at around 10:30 and we were seated right away. Our waitress was super pleasant and attentive but not overly so. My daughter had the chocolate chip pancakes, my mom had an omelette and I had a kids turkey sandwich. Every thing was delicious and we all took home "doggy bags". The restaurant is cute and it was very quiet that day. We were able to talk to each other without yelling. We will be back! read more

I returned to Buttered Toast to try some french toast. I've been on a french toast kick lately. Everything was pretty much the same with service and food being average. The hash browns were a little crispy and the french toast wasn't anything special. It will be hard to come back here when there is an excellent breakfast spot a block away. read more

The food has always been well made, and quick. The service to get the order in, was quick. However, to get our bill took a while. The ambiance for a breakfast/lunch place is par for the course. Our waitress was nice and pleasant. Checking out was an ease. read more

Family breakfast and I think between us we tried so many things. All good. Friendly server and cheerful vibe.

I love this place! I visited with a friend for the first time on March 23. I ordered the chicken chilaquiles, which was delicious - great flavors, perfect spice and generously portioned. As good as the food was, the highlight for me was the fantastic latte art! After I told our server, Nate, about my quest for great latte art, a super talented employee named Joy presented me with the best latte art I've ever had -- an animal! It was truly impressive! Nate was also fantastic -- very friendly, helpful and attentive. Overall, he and Joy provided the best service I've had anywhere in quite awhile. Kudos to both of them for a great experience! read more

I don't like to write a lot of reviews but I really have to commend this place. To preface everything, my family and I visit this restaurant often. I was there on Easter Sunday with my family enjoying my (delicious) meal when we heard some commotion at a nearby table. The commotion was coming from a server who seemed to be having some sort of informal meeting with upper management. The server was basically yelling at upper management and being very rude. I don't even think upper management was able to get a word in. Since I'm always here with family, I know one of the managers on a first name basis (Eric). Eric is such a kind and helpful employee. He was one of the individuals being yelled at by this server. I'm not sure the other managers name but she had dark hair. They did a great job handling the very uncomfortable situation. I felt so bad for both of them having to deal with this situation on top of a holiday weekend. Besides the managers handling this situation with such grace, everything else was awesome! I ordered the veggie skillet and iced latte. Both were delicious as always! I will continue to support this restaurant as they truly are kind individuals with amazing food! read more

I usually hate writing reviews, but I had to say something about this. I came in with my family on Easter and was given amazing service. The food was great and the employees were wonderful. However, we overheard upper management trying to scold an employee for some reason. She kept asking for an example and they couldn't even give her one. It seemed like they just wanted to let her go. Meanwhile, these two upper management people were taking all the labor hours on Easter but not setting a good example for their employees by actually working they were sitting the whole time, probably figuring out how to write her up or fire her. One of them was a girl with jet black hair, and she had another guy with her. The way they were treating this girl was disgusting. I've had bad management before and this set me off. I don't know what she did, but it's not always the employee's fault and the way they were going about it was completely unprofessional. I went up and told them how rude it was to be doing this on Easter, and they laughed straight in our faces. This place has no empathy for their employees. I'm glad we overheard this conversation coming from upper management because now we know. I really liked the food here and the employees, but just because of how upper management was treating her, it's a no go. We will not be returning because of specifically upper management. I'm praying for the girl they were interrogating. I hope she finds a better home. read more

I really like toast, and they have nice clean restrooms, friendly service people it's got them granite countertops, etc. that's a good place to grab a bite to eat! Finally people out of booth seating, and I think you can eat outdoors too! Next time I'll make a picture... read more

Nice menu with variety of food choices. Service is excellent. Hard surfaces and tends to be on the noisy side.

Stopped in for a quick Sunday morning breakfast. We were seated immediately. Service was super friendly and all smiles. I went with over medium eggs(they were cooked perfectly) along with Turkey sausage links that were pretty tasty. I opted out of the potatoes that come with my meal and substituted fresh fruit, which was sweet and ripe. Others in my party ordered the meat skillet and the steak skillet. Both said it was good and a lot of food. We sat in a booth which fit us perfectly, they also have a breakfast bar, which gives that warming diner feel! read more

We came here for a weekend early brunch and although they were busy, we could see they were very well staffed and there was good turnover of tables. Our waitress was excellent even offering my parents extra strawberry lemonade to go. We all enjoyed our food including crispy chicken and pancakes, Denver omelette, and the special bacon Benedict dish. The portion sizes were good and we all finished our dishes! There are other breakfast places with larger portions if you want to be able to take food home but here they have quality made food. The inside has a lot of tables and has a bar and the kitchen in the back. The women's bathroom only had two stalls so when it's busy there can be a bit of a wait. read more

We stopped in for breakfast this morning. We were greeted friendly and seated promptly. Our server, Amanda came to the table right after to greet us, get drinks. Through out our visit our table was visited by several members of the team to refill water, coffee and remove plates. Amanda was very attentive asking if everything was good, did we need more drinks etc. She really shined in all aspects of service. We were impressed with the quick and quality of service. Food was the perfect temp and great flavor. Lavender Vanilla Latte's were delicious. Great job on all aspects. The light and airy restaurant was very pretty and welcoming.. Amanda is a great asset to the team. Way to go. read more

Waitress was very nice. Been coming here for years. However, today I ordered a short stack of their famous pumpkin pancakes, a side of 4 sausage links and an iced decaf coffee. We have been coming here for breakfast, always nice. The waitresses are always nice and friendly. Taking our orders quickly. Today was completely different, Chevy I believe it was the name of the girl who took bad care of us. We waited for over 10 minutes while she was talking to the table across from us. Possibly her friends, she was talking about her personal life the car she bought and the ex boyfriend of hers, etc. finally she decided to come and take our order. We are very disappointed. read more

We have been going to Buttered Toast for going on 4 yrs now for breakfast. The staff has always been top notch. The food was absolutely wonderful. Today was different. The staff was great as usual but the food was pretty bed. We ordered and got our food in less than five minutes. Our eggs, hash browns and bacon were cold as if they had been made up ahead of time and been sitting. My husband's waffle was not crisp, but soggy and cold. Maybe it's time to find a new breakfast establishment. read more

I have been a long time customer of this restaurant in Algonquin. With new ownership, the quality of the menu items has changed. I always get the asparagus Cobb salad, but today it had different nuts and dressing. There are no pitas on the salad as well. it just wasn't the same quality as I'm used to and for the price was disappointing read more

Group of six guys for breakfast. The staff was not prepared to seat people at 7:30AM on a weekday; it took 7-8 minutes to push a couple tables together and tell us to sit down. I got Eggs Benedict with a solid yolk, not a runny yolk. That's not Egg Benedict. Another guy got the wrong type of omelette. Another asked for hash browns well done, got warmed over hash barely-browned. We'll pass on Buttered Toast the next time. read more

We like to not just eat in but also uber from here quite frequently. The problem is they never remember the whip cream, cinnamon sugar and they don't cover the yogurt parfait on delivery. They also miss notes often. It's frustrating to spend the money and not get what you order. I've tried calling store as soon as I place order and they always promise to send the items and mention notes to kitchen. However, they never get it right. read more

Great place to get breakfast! We have been there a few times now and were seated both inside and outside. Their patio is lovely. Went there yesterday for an elongated get together with a good friend off peak hours so as not to mitigate others ability to occupy a booth. I had the Healthy Oatmeal which is steel cut oats and absolutely loved the dish. Beautifully served covered in pecans, finely diced apples and a dash of yogurt. Perfectly cooked oats. Tender without being mushy. The server was fantastic and very accommodating with our meeting. Well light, clean, and a very wonderful experience. read more

We were seated immediately, server was right there asking for our drink order. We both ordered coffee. While he was bringing that, we looked at the extensive menu. Lots of choices with a few daily specials. They also offered bloody Mary's and mimosas. He chose the Denver Skillet, I just got the basic Eggs, Sausage, hash browns and sourdough toast. There were several options for the bread. Food was brought out quickly. What we noticed was that the eggs were cooked beautifully. They were so white and cooked to perfection. The Hash browns were crispy, and beautifully cooked, but lacking flavor. The sausage was delicious, but I gave two of them to my dining partner right off the bat, because 4 would have been too many for me. The coffee was hot and they kept it coming. And contrary to its name, or toast was not burnt, but perfectly toasted and perfect with jelly on it. In all, it was a nice, clean restaurant, excellent service. read more

It's was basic breakfast, service was good. Seems like same menu as burnt toast? We went on a weekend mid morning and were pleased.

Been coming here a hand full of times. Good food we order the Sunday soup which is cream of chicken. Delicious but you could tell they preserve them and it sat on the counter. It was served a little cold. We like it hot. I know it's faster to serve but it should be done as you order. read more

I've been going here for over a year and they've been good. I usually come here for the chilaquiles and even though they've been expensive, for the skirt steak version, it's been worth it. Today was the first day I've been here since I learned they changed management. It was very disappointing, they changed the taste and it is bland now. My wife usually has the Denver skillet and that has also lost its taste. I won't be back, especially not for a price increase and worse taste. read more

Yum, yum, yum! Although we had visited Burnt Toast for breakfast on many occasions, we'd never ventured into their lunch menu. What a mistake! Our food was so, so delicious. Never expected to get such a tasty burger at a breakfast place! Also, it was cooked to a perfect medium - not a rare feat, at all. My wife RAVED about the chicken pot pie.
