The layout and architecture of this place was spectacular with intriguing, Beautiful features. It was my anniversary wknd and we both felt like this was the most perfect place to celebrate. We dined in the windmill, our own space, which gave the vibe a more personal and romantic vibe. We were given a suggestion to write on the walls, as it was already filled with others love notes & memories. It which was so neat and made our dinner experience feel adventurous. The server, I believe her name was April, was very sweet and attentive. She surprised us with a dessert that had a sparkling candle , resembling a sparkler firework. Our faces lit up with excitement as the server happily took pictures for us. It was definitely the perfect final touch to our dining experience. With curiosity of wanting to know more about this restaurant, we asked questions about the history and back story. The lady that helped us, gave us the opportunity to take a quick tour, with information that allowed us to feel more connected to and appreciative of this business. We haven't been here in quite some time. And guess what... It's still very good. We went early on a Saturday afternoon, the outside bar was packed, it's such a great spot right off the river. Their were only a few of us inside on a nice afternoon. Service was attentive and experienced. We had a great sampler appetizer, really tender and very good calamari, like a bang bang shrimp and stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms could have been a bit warmer, but everything was really good. They still have a great old school salad, I have always loved their dressings and presentation. I had the walleye,which was perfectly cooked, and delicious. We went to Port Edward's for the kid friendly Easter brunch buffet. It was enjoyable. And, our server was the greatest! This place is a throw back. When you walk in you see a ship in a pool with gigantic Koi fish swimming around. It's a bit smelly in there, but you get used to it. They seated us and then allowed us to head to the buffet. The buffet had an iceberg salad with yummy ranch, waffles, French toast, bacon, sausage, tenders, fries, mac, fried shrimp, potatoes, and more. Really good buffet for kids. No culinary standouts, but for $25, it was worth the price by 2025 standards. There was a bunny for photos, drink options and an egg hunt for the youngsters. For the price and the casual-ness, it was a good thing for families with young kids. I think we may head back for the regular menu to see what it's all about. He came by and asked what we wanted to drink, then we flagged him down to put our food order in, and then got served our dinner and had to flag him down again as part of our meal was missing. My niece needed to go to the restroom. She went in and came right out saying it stinks and is dirty. After about 10 minutes, my wife and I were seasick, so we ended up going to a booth that we confirmed was on dry land! While we both love the ocean, we realize that we are landlubbers when it comes to eating a meal. The menu is generally pricey, but not unreasonable given the quality we experienced. Went there two years ago. We were looking for new restaurants to visit on the Fox River. We sat outside next to the river. Very nice and relaxing. It seemed like an eternity for our food to come out. And it was not good. Even my glass of wine was not that good, which was the best part of the meal. It got too cold outside for my wife, so we were allowed to continue eating inside. Oh wow! This place obviously hasn't been renovated ever. Here's my advice to anyone who buys this place: raze the building and start new. Get rid of the pond and boat, it's too 1960's. Nobody in their right mind would want to sit in that smelly boat to eat. Build a new, more clean looking building. Fire the chef, hire new cooks, and waitstaff. Use quality food, not the frozen crab that's available in the supermarkets. Dress up the outside area a bit. This place is not cheap, but that is not the point. We love good restaurants even if they are a bit pricey. But, lousy food, poor service, and unclean indoor surroundings just ain't gonna make it.
