    Buffet food
    Sam M.

Most of the food was cold and didn't have much of a taste. The chicken on a stick looked good but tasted terrible. But the buns were delicious! The ice cream scoop had no water to wash it off. The hibachi was actually delicious. Service was ok, The soy sauce was broken and leaked all over the table. And most of the plates looked worn and gross. The ambiance was kind of sad. The poor fish looked like they needed more water in their pond. Overall the building looked old and dingy. Definitely won't be coming back.

I could've lived without going to this one to be honest. Overall food quality doesn't match the $20 per person price point. I was excited to see some crab legs mentioned in some of the reviews, but no crab legs to be found during my visit. Buffet has 4 - 5 different sections: a flat top grill area, assorted Chinese food, American food, sushi, and dessert. In general, most of the food is hit and miss. I'll say the ice cream is actually pretty decent. Possibly the same supplier for Baskin Robbins. Overall dining and common areas feel a bit grungy. On a plus side, the servers busing tables we're very quick and efficient to clear off finished plates so that you could proceed to the next round. 'Til next time!

This place is ok. My favorite food at this place was sushi. They had a great variety of sushi including fried sushi. I also enjoyed the stir-fried rice noodles and the soy sauce-flavored steamed fish.

This is what the lobster tray will look like the majority of the time you are there.

Have not been here in years. Visited today with the family and I remember now why I choose not to come. Food is mediocre at best. Staff is not friendly. Establishment is spacious with many tables and booths. I can't say that it was dirty... But I wouldn't call it clean either. On the plus side, they do a good job of clearing off the dirty plates and refilling the food trays. The one tray that was rarely refilled was the lobster tray...which is the big pull for some to choose the place. There was a sign that said the lobster tray would be refilled every 20 minutes. I do not think that was the case. And for a place as big as theirs... To have only one tray is ridiculous. When we were there we stood in line to wait for the tray to be filled. They eventually brought out a tray of chopped up lobster, hardly enough for our family of 6. What about the other 100 or so patrons? My thing is, they shouldn't advertise all u can eat lobster. Or maybe they should guarantee each customer with at least one lobster tail. Bottom line, I would not recommend the place, much less going there for lobster.

Wow! Some bad reviews. The truth. You are missing out on a JEM. Just come and eat here. It's expensive, $17, but it's worth it. The night we went, they had Lobster Tail. Awesome!! Just what I wanted. Chopped Lobster Tail with Ginger sauce to be exact. Free pop! I'm good. I'll help myself. There are a few bad reviews, but this place has many customers. So, is it bad or good? The bad reviews just don't weigh against the GOOD. If it was bad, then why do they have many customers??? Their PARTY room was packed too!! My wife and kids did not like it... then again, I'm a seafood lover and I enjoyed my dinner at Royal Buffet. Go. You will not be sorry. PS. the bathroom is a mess. But I'm not grading on bathroom.

Food might look presentable (somewhat) but it was AWFUL

This place has gone through a number of makeovers over the years but it is decidedly a sports bar vibe where you enter the space and traditional restaurant in the back area. Overall a very casual and lively vibe. We waited about 15 minutes with a packed house and were seated in the restaurant portion in a very spacious booth. Our server was prompt, courteous, pleasant, and efficient--attentive but not overly so. The food was excellent with very ample portions at reasonable pricing with many options under $20. I will say they could skip the bread basket before your meal comes out and just put it into giving you a side with the sandwiches versus charging you $2 for each side added. That being said the food came out promptly, was warm, and very satisfying. Hopefully Chuck's keeps value for customers' hard earned buck in mind and they will continue to do well.

They also feature an extensive craft beer selection. I went with the seasonal Abita Bad Mother Shucker Stout, which was a fun nod to Mardi Gras and a solid stout choice for the occasion. For my entrée, I ordered the Mardi Gras Platter ($32.99). It included: * Choice of soup (I chose the seafood chowder) * Shrimp Creole * Jambalaya * Chicken Étouffée * Crawfish & Shrimp Monica * Broccoli The restaurant was busy, which is understandable for Fat Tuesday, but our food took quite a while to arrive. The soup was delivered at the same time as the platter. In my opinion, the soup should have come out first. Ironically, the seafood chowder ended up being the highlight of the meal--rich, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, by the time I finished the soup and moved on to the platter, most of it was only room temperature. The items were layered and grouped together in a way that made it unclear what paired with what. The chicken was noticeably overcooked and lacked depth of flavor. It tasted as though Cajun seasoning had simply been sprinkled on top rather than developed into the dish. Overall, the platter lacked the bold, authentic Cajun flavor profile I was expecting. The Crawfish & Shrimp Monica was advertised as coming in a bowl but was served in what amounted to a cup-sized portion. The menu description listed Cajun Alfredo sauce, crawfish, crab, blackened shrimp, pasta, Parmesan cheese, and broccoli. After mixing in the Parmesan, I searched for the seafood components and found none--no visible crab, crawfish, or blackened shrimp in the pasta. I mentioned this to the bartender, who said they would bring some out to add in. A few minutes later, three Cajun shrimp were delivered. There was still no crab or crawfish. While the Alfredo sauce and pasta themselves were very good, the absence of the advertised proteins significantly hurt the dish. Had I ordered the Crawfish & Shrimp Monica on its own for $24.99 and received the same portion and lack of seafood, I would have been extremely disappointed. Overall, while the concept and menu sounded promising for Mardi Gras, the execution--especially at that price point--left a lot to be desired.

Always feels welcoming and warm (especially in the winter). I cannot say more than all of their food is delicious. This one's building looks like a beautiful lodge. While there is an online Yelp waitlist (that goes up to 6 people), we had a party of 8 so I called the restaurant and they were happy to put my name down for a reservation. We came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We brought a cake to share, and when we arrived, our server was gracious enough to store it in the fridge until we were ready. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. Kids under a certain height (I forget the details exactly) are free. So we didn't have to pay for the little ones, and not like toddlers appreciate hot pot anyway. It was more, "how do we make sure they don't touch the pot?!" which went totally fine. It's to position the high chairs the furthest away from the knobs/hot surfaces. On our end of the table, we got the half-half broth of classic marrow and the gold cabbage marrow. The golden marrow was SO GOOD. I would get this again and again, because it's hot/sour; the flavor of pickled cabbage and the spice of Szechuan peppercorns. Our server said the spice builds over time, and it did. It was so flavorful that I barely used my dipping sauce. If you like hot/spicy and sour, choose this broth, it is DELICIOUS. The sauce station and the prepared food buffet was located in the middle-back of the dining area. It's a little packed and cozy in there, especially during the dinner rush, you may need to wait a little longer or keep an eye on the area to determine when to get out of your seat. This same area has self-service personal ice cream cups, soda, additional toppings/veggies/proteins, buffet (fried rice, fried chicken, egg rolls, fried buns) AND the sauce station. What I did love is there was a gentleman who was making balloon animals/hats/characters for sale near the front of the restaurant. He says he does this occasionally when he doesn't have other gigs like parties or weddings, etc, so my kiddo and my niece each got a cat and a bunny, respectively. This made their day! And it was nice for them not to be strapped into a high chair the whole time, and have something to entertain them. Overall, 4 shining stars! It would have been great if they had private and semi-private rooms like the Bridgeport location, but I think this wasn't possible due to their building. It looked like they took over a from a Mangia Bubala Roadhouse (Italian and Jewish fare) which took over from a Connie's Pizza. This place has gone through some changes, but it looks like Happy Lamb will be there for the long-run.

Today, though, the masala in my masala dosa was spoiled. The flavor seemed off, and when I tasted the potato filling on its own, it was clear something wasn't right. If you're a cheesecake fan, it's a pretty sad way to end the meal. Thankfully my last sushi bite was the Zuke salmon, which is always excellent. We spent around $350, which normally isn't an issue because we've had great experiences here in the past. But this visit was frustrating. My sister-in-law has a serious allergy to seeds and peanuts, and we were crystal clear about needing no sesame. In the past, the staff has been extremely careful and accommodating. This time, two rolls came out with sesame. We were willing to let those slide and said it was fine. But then they brought out a third roll with sesame--and that's when we got agitated. At that point, it really ruined the shared meal we were hoping for. What was safe tasted great, but the repeated mistakes took the enjoyment out of the experience. We weren't in any rush, but it definitely felt like the kitchen was winding down for the night. Chef Soon also wasn't there, which was disappointing because it genuinely felt like the attention to detail wasn't the same without him. And not to sound cheap, but after that many allergy-related mistakes, there should have been some sort of acknowledgment of an apology, actions speak louder than words. In my opinion a small discount, a complimentary dessert or app, something should have been offered. Instead, nothing. Chef soon is my favorite sushi restaurant. I often tell anyone in Illinois it's the best I've been to here. Normally this is a solid five-star spot for us, but tonight was a three out of five at best. Mistakes happen, and I'll be back... but this visit was honestly pretty upsetting. I think I may be on a search for a new favorite sushi place for my sister.
