We eat here every time we come through town and always love it! Food is always cooked exactly to order and piping hot! Thanks Sammy!

One of my favorite hot dog spots in the area I try to stay away as long as I can because I am on a diet but their food is just that good the staff has always been super friendly and I have been coming here for years definitely a go to when I want to treat myself read more

Extremely over priced. Will not return . 40 dollars for two chicken fingers meals . Food is definitely not worth the cost .

Good food and great service but for some reason I feel they are overpriced. So I have a tendency to go elsewhere not. I miss the food but not the priced. That is my only complaint. If money no option their rib dinner is very good and I also enjoyed their steak sandwich. Again hotdogs are very good but it's the price that keeps me away. read more

So 18 bucks gets you 3 strips of gyro they weight the gyro meat place is cheap don't bother read more

Being from Chicago, this was not even close to a authentic Chicago hot dog experience. No poppy seed bun on the hot dog is a good example. They use a Cheeze whiz type product for the cheese fries. Overall the food just was not any good. I will try Mr. C's next as I haven't tried that one. Write this one off if you crave a Chicago food experience. read more

Great everything. Grandkids love it. So many choices. I would go to Sammy's anytime over Portillo's. Huge menu made to order.

I should have walked right out when I saw the menu on the wall with blue tape covering the prices. Cheeseburger meal (burger, fries and drink) was a whopping $17.30. Yes the food was good but no better than Beef Shack or Culver's which are much less expensive, This place takes price gouging to a whole new level. I won't be back read more

My favorite place to go. We have Bern going here for years and still the best. Great customer service. I've known them for years. Love the chicken gyros. Thank you. read more

For a Chicago style fast food burger and hotdog kind of place, this place is great!! Since relocating to Central Florida, Big Sammy's is one place I miss very much. Chicago style hotdogs and gyros are the best. Hey Big Sammy, come to Florida PLEASE!!! read more

Big Sammy's Hot Dogs - Gyro!! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Elgin, Illinois

they're always here what you need what you want you need to fill your stomach Good place lots of neet good food-there!!!

Stopped in for a hot dog while passing by. Ordered a hot dog without fries and a small fountain drink. The place is clean and roomy. Located right behind Sushi Station on Randall. Their hot dog is your standard Chicago dog. A decent option, but not as good as Portillo's or other Chicago area staples. Nonetheless, it was a decent dog and the bun was wonderfully soft. However, I was a bit taken aback by the prices, which, by the way, are not listed on the menu. Hot dog (no fries) and small fountain drink = $6.78. Yikes! The food seems decent, just be prepared for some sticker shock. I'd eat here again. read more

Not sure what's going on here. The menu has no prices. The shake machine is in the dining area but nowhere are shakes listed on the menu. 2 dogs special and a drink was $16.00, ouch! The staff seemed.... Not pleased to be there. The food was average. read more

Great hotdogs and fries st Big Sammy's and today I had a fantastic, piping hot Maxwell Street Polish Sausage with grilled onions and yellow mustard., Mmm, good. But be careful you don't burn the roof of your mouth like I did. read more

I'll start this off with saying I am no Chicago food expert. I haven't had a million Italian beef's or Chicago dogs to compare to. But I do love food. So here goes... Was staying in a hotel next door for business and this was the closest, decent looking spot for a quick meal. Tried a bunch of stuff- hot dog, Italian beef, chicken tenders, burger, fries, onion rings. Everything was kind of exactly what you'd expect- greasy, filling, and pretty ok. Burger and tenders are definitely frozen. Hot dog was whatever. The Italian beef was HUGE. Meat/gravy didn't have a ton of flavor but the roll was decent and the giardenera was really the highlight for me. Probably a three star spot, but given the location and the kindness of the staff I think it's worth visiting if you're in the area and this is the kind of meal you're craving read more

Nothing crazy. Pretty good but a little pricey for what it is. Not my first choice but definitely not my last. Would have again but there's so many other options. read more

It's an okay Chicago Grill. Sammy thinks it's heaven on earth. How do you serve "Chicago Dogs" without a poppy seed bun? I got the two dog combo with fries and a drink for $7.25. The food was fine. My side of cheese sauce was a little clumpy. In order to compete with other hot dog joints in this neck of the woods, your food needs to be spectacular and Sammy's falls just a tad shy of that. Seek out a Portillos instead read more

No thanks! Food is mmmhhh atmosphere ‍ not a huge fan. Jesters in Elgin off Big Timer and McLean, I think is better overall.

I decided to take a chance and go here today. A little after 4pm. Place was empty. I walked up said hello....I don't expect a tap dance but you can say hi and try to crack a smile....or attempt a greeting of "some" sort. I wanted to get an order of chicken nuggets. No greeting at all. Crabby freaking dude said they were out. We're out of popcorn chicken, and wings too. Not, hello, hey sorry man we are out can I get you something else....hell no. I should have turned around just because he was such a pompous jerk about it. Never buy food from mean or crabby service people! I broke my own dang rule! Placed an order for a cheeseburger & chili cheese fries combo, Cheesy beef combo. Came to 34 freaking bucks! AGAIN why didn't I just turn around I got two tiny cups for a take out order for soda. Like the size you get when you ask for free water. I double checked and asked if that was the correct size soda for an order costing 34 dollars. He gave me another dirty look and said yes. Out of being polite I still swiped my card. (my fault I know) I could've went to a restaurant for this kind of money. The food was at best average and the experience was crap. No cheese on the cheesy beef. Not worth it at all. Never again. You got me once. I'm all for supporting independent places .....but ones who actually try and give a decent deal for food. Not getting me again. BOOOOOO! To Big Sammys read more

Our family loves this place! It is pretty pricey but so worth it with how much food they give you! Everyone no matter what time/day you go are very friendly! Would definitely recommend trying anything on their menu as it is all delicious! - make sure to get a cup of their warm cheese for the fries!!! read more

Came here for the first time today during my lunch break for a quick bite to eat as I was passing by. I ordered the Chicago dog lunch special with fries and a Dr. Pepper. It was around $8 and was hands down some of the best hot dogs I have ever eaten! Fast service, I was in and out within about 5-6 minutes, and the food was hot and fresh . 5/5 stars will definitely be back!! read more

Big Sammy's Hot Dogs - 2 Chicago hot dogs, absolutely delicious! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Elgin, Illinois

Its such a shame, I really like the food here, but the Front counter guy is so rude. It happens so many times that I finally decided to rate the place. It was friday 8/16/2024, I placed an order and got there 15 minutes later and stood to wait on the front counter. Finally someone comes up and I asked if my order was ready and didnt get a verbal resposnse, instead he just rang me up while holding a to go bag. then the card machine asked for a payment so I just went ahead and tapped my card. Then he finally spoke up when I did that to angrily to say that wasnt for my order and that now he couldnt refund me. ( really? He thinks hes the only one that worked fast food is just him and there is no 4 ways to return my payment??) I just kinda froze there could not believe that the rude person who can barely speak english is trying to tell me I cant have my money back??. I stayed quiet and waited for more lies to see if this guy is really trying to take my money. With my silence he went ahead and press a few buttons and told me to slide my card back so I knew he did return my payment. Instead of checking me out since we were already working together he went ahead and called the real person he tried to ring up and when that was done. I asked again so is my order ready? This time he replies yes your order is ready but your not the one Im ringing up. Why didnt he just say that in the first place when I first asked him?? And I wouldnt have to tap my card. Its just so rude when you ignore someones question and then become piss when they assume and tap their card when your ringing someone else up. So he rang me up after and handed me the bag that he was holding that turned out to be really mine to begin with while he looked for someone else to ring up. Its a shame that the food is good here but they match their food up with rude front worker who can barely speak or speak poor english. There are so many people who wants to work why ruin your restaurant with a person whos rude and speaks half english. Its not like Sammy sells unique foods theres plenty of competition so thats where I go now. read more

Stear clear of this Big Sammys location in Elgin off Bushwood. Ordered a Gyros meal (extra meat) yesterday and asked to have it well done on the spit. Not a sole in the place and 3 employees working. After paying $20.00 I notice the kid in the back shaving Gyros was putting it on the grill and told him I wanted it cooked on the spit. ""You want it on the spit? I said yes please as it has a tendency to mix with other meats cooked. I could tell he was miffed, but they WERE NOT BUSY and the request I felt was reasonable. 5 minutes later my meal was ready. Took it home and guess what...It was greasy and undercooked. Stear clear of this location and maybe Big Sammys. This happens when a business expands too fast. There are a lot of other Gyros places who will make it the way you want and provide good customer service. read more

I am surprised to read some of the mixed reviews. I've had excellent experiences on the several occasions I have picked up lunch from Sammy's. Unlike the photo posted in another review, the Italian Beef I got was huge. I bet it would have tipped the scale at a full pound or better had I tried to weigh it. Perfect juice to roll ratio and the beef was nice and tender. You can tell it is a higher quality beef. No fat or gristle at all. The Chicken Parm sandwich was excellent as well. Maybe a touch light on the marinara, but definitely met my expectations. The Gyro sandwich was close to the best gyro I've ever had. The fries are excellent. No second frying like another review mentioned. Fresh, hot, crispy, and salted just right. The small bag was easily equal to a large at other Chicago style grills. As for the down sides, there are a couple worth mentioning. At lunch time, they are usually slammed, so if you are in a hurry, this isn't the place for you, but the food makes the wait well worth it. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing the availability of some good hot giardiniera on the counter or in some small cups to go. Giardiniera is a Chicago food staple and having it available would have put my experience over the top. All in all, a great place to grab lunch. The food is excellent and the value is definitely there. read more

I love the fresh gyros I think the fries is a bit over priced I would definitely come back

Big Sammy's is a place that will always have a place in my heart. I started going here when I was younger but it was at the Elk Grove Village locations because I'd visit some family and go with them or hit the spot up before I went to visit. I do also agree that a Chicago Dog needs to have that poppy seed bun but other than that I honestly don't have any major gripes with this place. Seating can definitely be better as well like some others have said but it'd a Hot Dog joint, what do you expect? For the price the 2 hot dog special is not bad at all. For 7.75 you get 2 hot dogs, fries and a drink. Now I know people think you should go here for the Hot Dogs but honestly give the Chicken Gyro a try. That is pretty much what got all my family including myself hooked onto this place. The chicken has good flavor, the pita is cooked perfectly, some lettuce (I usually remove some of the lettuce it can sometimes be too much), and a really good honey mustard sauce. I've had Chicken Gyros at other places and I have to say so far Big Sammy's in my opinion has the best. Also just an FYI I saw a couple days ago that they had something outside of the store of undergoing a process of possibly getting a liquor license? Maybe Big Sammy's is going to sell Beer and/or other types of liquor soon? Maybe I also was just food deprived and going crazy but I could of sworn I saw a sign that said it. I'll update this whenever I go back to make sure. All in all, give Big Sammy's a try, if not for the Hot Dogs, try the Chicken Gyro at least once. Keep it up guys! read more

$11.50 for a d2 og and fry combo with two skinny little hotdogs and dried out bun. Once upon a time this place was pretty good, that time has apparently ended. The new Beef Shack nearby is gonna put a hurt in their Big Sammy's business based upon the food quality read more

So, I can ONLY comment on the hot dog's since that is all I had at Big Sammy's so, here it goes. They use cheap buns, generic bland pickle slices, not the freshest tomatoes, and the relish stinks. The pickles are sliced not quartered... The relish is non existent and not green.... there is no celery salt, with the exception of the sport peppers I would deem this NOT a Chicago hot dog, but then what's the point of going to the place.... The buns are just wrong... stale and no poppy seeds. So skip this place, even if it is convenient... Go to Portillo's, go to Paradise Pup, there are just too many good places that do a good job. Go here if you like everything fried... almost all the menu choices were fried things and it is hard to screw that up.... Sorry Sammy's but you know its true read more

I've came to this location ever since the doors have opened here. Great people behind the counter, sometimes even Sammy is there helping out. They got a great deal on hotdogs with a meal. I typically get a double cheeseburger with large fries. Do not ask for all the condiments because the burger can get very messy & they typically overdo them. For a great price I'm getting very huge quantities. They have a huge variety of food to serve. You will not be disappointed. read more

I've only been here once, and it was pretty decent. I ordered the chicken gyros sandwich, which unfortunately, I wouldn't order again. I would have preferred my gyros to be a little more crispy, as it was too soft or undercooked for my liking. The portion was OK. There were tons of fries, and the fries are delicious! My friend ordered the regular gyros, and it was just okay. I also tasted the popcorn chicken which was excellent! I'd definitely order that if I was in the mood for fried chicken. The mozzarella sticks weren't that good and neither was the sauce that comes with it, I'd skip out on that one. I would be willing to go back to try their food again. read more

I stopped in here for lunch when I didn't feel like fighting for parking at Panera. The service was great, and he was understanding with my questions (since I'd never been there before). I got their 2 hotdog special, and they were delicious. Normally when I get a bacon cheese dog, I feel slightly skimped on cheese. Here? The cheese was warm and gooey and I had to be careful not to spill it all over! The fries were crispy, nicely cooked. If anything, they needed a little salt - easily fixed with a packet of salt. When I got ready to go back to work, they all thanked me for coming. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try the Gyros. read more

I usually have good service here, but not today. I placed an order online for pickup and a coworker went to pick it up. Once she got back I only had 1/3 of my order. I called and they said oh yeah machine messes up sometimes. I ask for a Refund and got an instant no. Only option was leaving work to go pick up the food. Not even an sorry. Panera forgot to put bacon in my order and gave me a free meal for next visit. This was very poor service, and once I get to the location the man says you hung up which I didn't my response was okay meaning I'm coming to pick up my food why would I let a business steal my money. Got there abs waited over 10 mins for the food read more

I went to Big Sammy's unfamiliar with the area and not wanting the standard chain fast food. I did not anticipate how great this establishment would be. We tried the gyros, burger, hot dog , shake and fries and were not disappointed one bit. Service was exceptional with Sammy taking our order and making our milkshake. You can not beat the prices, quality of food and service.. ---- -------------------------------------------- 10/10 and will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area. My husband picked up an order that we placed through Uber. When he went to go pick it up Sammy - THE OWNER mind you, gave him an extremely difficult time over a $3 Pepsi. We ordered through the app and paid $44 and within that order was 3 Pepsis. Upon my husbands arrival the owner refused to give him all three and accused him of scamming him because their receipt was only charged $41. He then proceeded to tell my husband there must be something wrong with the app and MY HUSBAND needs to call Uber to adjust the prices. Are you kidding me? Disgusting and cheap business owner and we will never return after being treated like this. read more
